Adams<\/span><\/a>, Chair of the firm&#8217;s \u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=2780103-1&amp;h=927791340&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.greenbaumlaw.com%2Fservices-practices-Criminal-Defense-Regulatory-Compliance.html&amp;a=Criminal+Defense+%26+Regulatory+Compliance+Practice+Group\" rel=\"nofollow\">Criminal Defense &amp; Regulatory Compliance Practice Group<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The task force will assist non-violent offenders who are currently incarcerated and have an increased risk of contracting COVID-19 with requests for bail, compassionate release, medical furloughs, and early parole. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The U.S. Attorney General, various governors and courts have identified prisoners as one of the most susceptible populations to be impacted,&#8221; notes Mr. Adams, who is already handling release applications in <span class=\"xn-location\">New Jersey<\/span>. &#8220;We stand ready to advocate on behalf of these individuals, because a prison sentence should not be a death sentence,&#8221; Adams adds.<\/p>\n<p>The density of prison environments, lack of access to adequate healthcare, and other considerations place prisoners at particularly high risk for contracting and spreading the COVID-19 virus. <\/p>\n<p>On <span class=\"xn-chron\">March 22<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">New Jersey<\/span> became the first state to temporarily suspend and commute county jail sentences in response to the pandemic under an order issued by the New Jersey Supreme Court with the support of the <span class=\"xn-location\">New Jersey<\/span> Attorney General, the County Prosecutors Association of <span class=\"xn-location\">New Jersey<\/span> and the ACLU.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>In a follow-up measure, <span class=\"xn-location\">New Jersey<\/span> Governor <span class=\"xn-person\">Phil Murphy<\/span> signed Executive Order 124 on <span class=\"xn-chron\">April 10<\/span>, creating a process for the New Jersey Department of Corrections to grant temporary reprieve to certain at-risk inmates during the COVID-19 crisis.
