<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3033359-1&amp;h=1456475827&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.socalgas.com%2F&amp;a=Southern+California+Gas+Co.\" rel=\"nofollow\">Southern California Gas Co.<\/a>\u00a0(SoCalGas) today announced that the <span class=\"xn-location\">City of Compton<\/span>, the <span class=\"xn-location\">City of Anaheim<\/span> and the <span class=\"xn-location\">City of Palmdale<\/span> have been selected as recipients of the utility&#8217;s 2020 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3033359-1&amp;h=519303192&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.socalgas.com%2Fsmart-energy%2Fsustainability-at-socalgas%2Fclimate-grant&amp;a=Climate+Adaptation+and+Resiliency+Planning+Grant+program.\" rel=\"nofollow\">Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Planning Grant program.<\/a>\u00a0Each of the three local governments will receive a <span class=\"xn-money\">$50,000<\/span> grant to support local planning efforts to help prepare for and recover from climate change risks such as extreme heat, wildfires, drought, subsidence, sea level rise, flooding and mudslides.<\/p>\n<p>The Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Planning Grant Program is a shareholder-funded initiative that has awarded <span class=\"xn-money\">$400,000<\/span> over the past three years. \u00a0An advisory panel of planning and sustainability experts from the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3033359-1&amp;h=4089773918&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.laregionalcollaborative.com%2F&amp;a=Los+Angeles+Regional+Collaborative+for+Climate+Action+and+Sustainability\" rel=\"nofollow\">Los Angeles Regional Collaborative for Climate Action and Sustainability<\/a>\u00a0(LARC) and the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3033359-1&amp;h=730736964&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.apacalifornia.org%2F&amp;a=American+Planning+Association-California+Chapter\" rel=\"nofollow\">American Planning Association-California Chapter<\/a>\u00a0(APA-California) reviewed the project submissions and selected the recipients. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our infrastructure continues to support the growth of renewables like wind and solar, as well as renewable gas to help reach the states&#8217; climate goals,&#8221; said <b><span class=\"xn-person\">Jawaad Malik<\/span>, vice president of strategy, sustainability and chief environmental officer<\/b>. &#8220;The climate resiliency and adaptation grants will help kickstart many new projects across <span class=\"xn-location\">Southern California<\/span>, allowing local communities to prepare for risks from climate change.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The <span class=\"xn-location\">City of Palmdale<\/span> plans to use this grant to update the City&#8217;s FEMA-approved Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) with a specific focus on climate risks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As our City moves forward to meet and comply with both State and Federal environmental regulations, this grant will help us identify and prioritize the concrete and innovative projects we will need as we grow,&#8221; said <b><span class=\"xn-location\">Palmdale<\/span> Mayor <span class=\"xn-person\">Steve Hofbauer<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0 &#8220;Our Local Hazard Mitigation Plan will offer an up-to-date and comprehensive assessment of the risk and vulnerability from natural hazards to the City&#8217;s critical facilities, infrastructure, economy, and population, while helping to identify the projects needed to mitigate the identified hazards.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>These funds will allow for the <span class=\"xn-location\">City of Compton<\/span> to update the safety element of its General Plan and LHMP to address current and projected climate change impacts. These changes will be reflective of the issues the population of <span class=\"xn-location\">Compton<\/span> currently faces such as extreme heat and high levels of pollution. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The <span class=\"xn-location\">City of Compton<\/span> plans to use this grant to assist with our communities to better adapt and become further resilient towards climate change,&#8221; said <b><span class=\"xn-location\">Compton<\/span> City Manager <span class=\"xn-person\">Craig J.
