ELKHART LAKE, Wis., July 13, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — A thrilling «battle of the young guns» saw Felix Rosenqvist come from behind to claim his career Indy car victory, and extend Honda’s winning streak to four in as many races in the 2020 NTT INDYCAR SERIES.

Honda-powered Felix Rosenqvist [#10 leading] came from behind to score his career-first Indy car win Sunday at Road America. Honda and the Chip Ganassi Racing team have won all four opening races in the 2020 NTT INDYCAR SERIES.

In the second race of a doubleheader weekend at Road America, Rosenqvist chased down fellow second-year Indy car driver Pato O’Ward in the final 15 laps of Sunday’s REV Group Grand Prix, erasing an eight-second deficit following the final round of pit stops to catch O’Ward with just over two laps remaining, pulling alongside on the run up the hill from Turn 5 to Turn 6 on the 4.0-mile road course.  The pair continued to side-by-side through Turn 6, with Rosenqvist finally establishing an advantage on the run back down the hill through Turn 7 and through the «Carousel».

Once in front, Rosenqvist extended his advantage on the final lap, taking the checkers 2.8 seconds clear of O’Ward.  The win is the fourth in as many races this season for both Honda and Chip Ganassi Racing, with teammate Scott Dixon winning the opening trio of events this year, including the opening 55-lap race here on Saturday.

Championship leader Dixon was unable to sweep the weekend, but salvaged a 12th-place result after contending with chassis balance issues throughout the race, and problems during two of his three pit stops.  Dixon remains atop the Drivers’ Championship standings with 173 points, while Herta moves into second with 119 points.

Behind the lead pair, 2019 Road America winner Alexander Rossi scored his first podium result of 2020 with a third-place finish in his Andretti Autosport Honda; while Marcus Ericsson, driving the third Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, gained 12 positions during the race to finish fourth.

With four wins in four races this season, Honda also continues to lead the IndyCar Manufacturers’ Championship, with an unofficial total of 362 points to 270 points for Chevrolet.  Honda drivers claimed seven of the top eight finishing positions today.  Colton Herta continued his string of top-six results this year, finishing fifth in both races this weekend.  Dale Coyne Racing’s Santino Ferrucci came homes sixth, while teammate and promising rookie Alex Palou started on the front row and finished seventh.  Takuma Sato rounded out the top eight in his Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda.

After strong runs on Saturday and in qualifying for today’s race, both fourth-starting Ryan Hunter-Reay and Graham Rahal, who had qualified fifth, were eliminated in separate opening-lap clashes with Will Power.

Following this weekend’s doubleheader at Road America, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES wraps up its run of five races over a 15-day period with another doubleheader next weekend, July 17-18, on the short oval at Iowa Speedway near Des Moines.

Quotes
Felix Rosenqvist (Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) Started seventh, finished first; first Indy car win, fourth consecutive win for Honda in 2020: «We’ve been close [to a win] so many times, this race was for my #10 NTT Data crew and Honda..  We’ve been strong in so many races, but it never quite came together until today.  The car was fantastic, and now we’re four for four for Ganassi and Honda, that’s huge. We had so much pace.  We kept closing in, almost half a second every lap.  We had a really good fight [with O’Ward] at the end, it was a good show and good fun. I’m really proud to be part of the NTT and Honda families.»

Alexander Rossi (Andretti Autosport Honda) Started 10th, finished third: «It’s been a difficult start to the season, but one constant has been this #27 AutoNation Andretti Autosport Honda team.  There’s never been a question of what we’re doing, or why we’re doing it.  It’s all been problem solving and keeping our foot down on the pedal and attacking as much as we can.  We knew it would come good at some point, our race pace has always been strong.  We’ll take this [third-place finish], it’s a step in the right direction and it’s what we needed to get some momentum going heading into Iowa

Ted Klaus (President, Honda Performance Development) on today’s fourth consecutive Honda win in the 2020 NTT INDYCAR SERIES: «What a great way to end a great weekend for everyone at Honda and HPD.  It’s so satisfying to see Felix Rosenvqist break through for his first win, and really happy to see Alex [Rossi] on the podium where he belongs.  It’s unfortunate that both Graham Rahal and Ryan Hunter-Reay were eliminated through no fault of their own, but Colton [Herta] continues to impress with his consistent results, and now is second to [Scott] Dixon in the championship.  We’re proud to power all of our partner teams: Chip Ganassi Racing, Andretti Autosport, Rahal Letterman Lanigan, Meyer Shank Racing and Dale Coyne Racing.  Now we head to Iowa, a completely different challenge to these past three road races.»

Dixon, Honda Now Three for Three with Road America Victory

ELKHART LAKE, Wis., July 11, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — A strategic pit call by his Chip Ganassi Racing team, combined with Scott Dixon’s ability to run qualifying-like laps in clean air, enabled the Honda driver to continue his season-opening streak of NTT INDYCAR SERIES races wins to three Saturday at the REV Group Grand Prix.  Today’s race was the first of a doubleheader race weekend at the challenging 4-mile Road America road course.

Starting ninth, Dixon was seemingly stuck in a pack of cars contesting fourth through ninth for the first two dozen laps of the 55-lap contest, so his Ganassi team elected to make his second stop on Lap 26.  Exiting pit lane with no nearby traffic, Dixon rattled off a series of ultra-quick laps to find himself second to Will Power when the pit stop sequence concluded on Lap 30.

Dixon repeatedly challenged Power for the lead, then jumped ahead during the final round of stops under caution on Lap 40.  Once in front, Dixon remained in charge to the finish, despite a series of late-race caution flags, to score his 49th career Indy car victory and three in a row for the first time in his career.

The late-race sequence of cautions provided Honda-powered rookie Alex Palou with the opportunity he needed, as the Dale Coyne Racing with Team Goh driver jumped from sixth, to fifth, to third in a series of ambitious overtaking moves on the succeeding restarts. The strong finish promoted Palou to third at the checkers, after starting mid-field in 14th. The podium finish is the best to date in the promising rookie’s Indy car career.

Honda drivers claimed four of the top five finishing positions, and eight of the top 10.  After starting third, Ryan Hunter-Reay ran in the lead group for the entire day, finishing fourth with his Andretti Autosport teammate, Colton Herta, fifth.  Santino Ferrucci ran as high as second in his Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan Honda, but a near collision with a slower car during his final pit stop dropped the second-year Indy car driver to sixth at the checkers.

Starting fourth, Graham Rahal looked like a potential race winner in the opening stint, but a refueling issue during his first pit stop dropped the Rahal Letterman Lanigan driver deep in the field.  A strong recovery saw Rahal claw his way back to seventh at the finish. Teammate Takuma Sato worked his way from 15th to ninth, with Marcus Ericsson rounding out the top 10 for Honda despite a spin on the final lap.

With three wins in as many races this season, Honda also continues to lead the IndyCar Manufacturers’ Championship, with an unofficial total of 267 points to 213 points for Chevrolet.

Next
Today’s race was the opening round of a doubleheader REV Group Grand Prix weekend at Road America.  Tomorrow’s 55-lap finale starts at 12 p.m. EDT, with live coverage on NBC. A second doubleheader follows next weekend, July 17-18, on the oval at Iowa Speedway.

Quotes
Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) Started ninth, finished first; third consecutive INDYCAR win to open the 2020 season and 49th career victory: «I’m not sure how that happened! I know we had huge out laps [exiting the pits] and a big in lap as well.  We’re definitely proud to be powered by Honda here.  This is a huge weekend for us.  We definitely didn’t start the way we wanted [qualifying ninth], but we dialed it in a little bit better for the race.  That was awesome, man! But it’s not me, the team does such an amazing job to cover all the bases.  I’m proud of this team, and proud of everyone on it.»

Alex Palou (Dale Coyne Racing with Team Goh Honda) Started 14th, finished third: «This is amazing, it feels so good.  It took time to get here [finishing on the podium].  We still need more practice, but we’re getting there.  I’m becoming more comfortable with the car, and with the team.  I was a little bit lucky today, to be honest, with the restarts.  It was one of those days were you try something, and it works!  We had tough luck in qualifying [14th], but good luck in the race.»

Ted Klaus (President, Honda Performance Development) on today’s Honda win in the GMR Grand Prix: «Today’s effort by Scott Dixon and his Chip Ganassi Racing team demonstrated exactly why they have won so many races, and championships, over the years.  That was a brilliant race strategy, and perfect execution by both driver and team to make it work.  It was amazing to watch, and a well-earned third consecutive win for Scott, and for Honda. Alex Palou had some fantastic restarts, and it was great to see him get a well-earned result after demonstrating so much speed earlier this season.  Ryan Hunter-Reay also drove an excellent race, as did Santino Ferrucci.  But for the refueling issue during his first stop, I think Graham Rahal would have challenged for the win.  Jack Harvey also deserved better luck after his great qualifying effort and race pace.  Best of all, we get to do this again tomorrow!»

TORRANCE, Calif., July 9, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition stormed to a new front-wheel drive track record at Suzuka Circuit, Honda’s Formula 1 racetrack in Japan, with a time of 2 minutes 23.993 seconds. Originally built as a test facility for Honda, the 3.6-mile Suzuka track’s figure-8 configuration today is known worldwide as a highlight of the Formula 1 season as a driver and fan favorite.

The 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition stormed to a new front-wheel drive track record at Suzuka Circuit, Honda’s Formula 1 racetrack in Japan, with a time of 2 minutes 23.993 seconds. Originally built as a test facility for Honda, the 3.6-mile Suzuka track’s figure-8 configuration today is known worldwide as a highlight of the Formula 1 season as a driver and fan favorite.

Piloted by Super GT Series racer Takuya Izawa, the Type R Limited Edition achieved its record-breaking lap during final performance evaluations in February using a development car built to final European production specifications, with no modifications or performance enhancements. Video capturing the record breaking lap through in-car footage is available here, with a separate video of the development crew working on the Type R at the track here.

«The Type R Limited Edition reflects Honda’s dedication to refining the essence and driving pleasure of Type R as a sports car and exceeding the expectations of our customers,» said Civic Type R Project Leader Hideki Kakinuma. «The engineering team and I embraced a racing spirit that has been passed down for generations, and it’s this strong passion that’s driving the evolution of the Civic Type R towards becoming the ideal sports car. Now the «advanced» Type R that I envisioned at the beginning of this development is a reality and I am overwhelmed by the result and how our efforts have been rewarded.»

The 2021 Type R Limited Edition for the U.S. market is the ultimate street-legal, track-focused variant of Honda’s legendary Civic Type R, with significant measures taken to reduce weight and improve handling performance. Just 600 will be available when it launches in the U.S. later this year, exclusively painted in new Phoenix Yellow Pearl with contrasting gloss black accents on the roof and mirrors, and a dark chrome Civic badge. Inside, each Type R Limited Edition will feature an individually numbered serial plate denoting the vehicle’s original country of sale. The U.S.-spec Type R Limited Edition differs from the European version by retaining air conditioning, Honda Sensing®, and the Display Audio system.

2021 Civic Type R Limited Edition mechanical upgrades from the standard Type R for the U.S. market include: Lightweight, forged aluminum wheels from acclaimed manufacturer BBS (18 lbs. unsprung weight reduction); Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for improved traction and handling grip; dampers optimized for the new wheel/tire package; recalibrated steering for finer control and feedback; and further weight reduction of 28.2 lbs. through measures such as strategic reduction of sound-deadening materials.

In addition to its unique touches, the Type R Limited Edition shares most of the updates that debuted on the 2020 Civic Type R, including freshened front and rear exterior styling, a larger grille and revised radiator design for improved engine cooling, an Alcantara™-wrapped steering wheel, and a new shifter with a restyled knob, plus the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies.

Under the hood, the Type R Limited Edition draws power from the same race-bred 2.0-liter VTEC® Turbo engine, putting out a peak 306-horsepower (SAE net) and 295 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net), with power delivered to the front wheels through a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential.

The substantial power and torque is effectively managed by Type R’s dual axis strut front suspension system which virtually eliminates torque steer while allowing geometry optimized for maximum cornering performance.

Honda pads Manufacturers’ title chase lead as series begins run of five races in 15 days

INDIANAPOLIS, July 5, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — As he had at the 2020 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season opener in Texas in June, Scott Dixon dominated the second half of today’s GMR Grand Prix to lead a 1-2 finish for Honda on the road course of the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Honda and Scott Dixon are now two-for-two in the 2020 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, with Dixon adding victory Saturday at the GMR Grand Prix in Indianapolis to his win last month at Texas Motor Speedway.

Dixon credited a minor setup change made during his second pit stop for improving the handling of his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, and the five-time series champion the pulled away during the second half of the 80-lap contest to a nearly 20-second margin of victory over fellow Honda driver Graham Rahal.

For his part, Rahal was able to make a two-stop strategy work to his advantage, with the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing driver running especially strong during the middle third of the race, where he led 18 laps and was in contention for the victory. But when the sole caution flag of the race came out on Lap 36, the advantage of Rahal’s two-stop strategy was negated. In the closing laps, Rahal fought off a strong challenge from defending race winner Simon Pagenaud to secure the second step on the podium.

Behind the lead pair, Colton Herta led the way for Andretti Autosport with a solid fourth-place finish, while Dixon’s teammate Marcus Ericsson brought his Honda home in sixth. Santino Ferruci, in ninth, and Takuma Sato rounded out the top 10 for Honda.

With two wins in two races this season, Honda also continues to lead the IndyCar Manufacturers’ Championship, with an unofficial total of 182 points to 142 points for Chevrolet.

Next
Today’s GMR Grand Prix is the first of three consecutive weekends – and five races – in the resumed 2020 NTT INDYCAR SERIES. The series now heads north to scenic Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, for the July 11-12 doubleheader REV Group Grand Prix. A second doubleheader race weekend follows July 17-18 on the oval at Iowa Speedway.

Honda Racing social media content and videos from the GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be available on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/HondaRacingHPD) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/HondaRacing_HPD). Produced by the CoForce Digital Media, YouTube video packages can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/HondaRacingHPDTV.

Quotes
Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) Started seventh, finished first; second consecutive INDYCAR win to open the 2020 season and 48th career victory: «You don’t know how it’s ever going to go. Graham Rahal was super fast, especially on the [Firestone primary] ‘black’ tires. We got a little bit of luck [with the caution] that put us in the right direction. The Honda power was fantastic, and we made a change on the car [during the second pit stop] and then the PNC car was so much easier to drive that we could just ‘check out’.»

Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Honda) Started fourth, finished second: «I thought the [two-stop] strategy was working perfect. Coming out of the pits after the first stop and still being right with [Will] Power and [Jack] Harvey and all the good guys, all I kept thinking was when the pits cycled through for the last time, we’d have about a 25- or 30-second lead, but obviously the yellow [caution flag] came out and nullified our strategy. But ‘Dixie’ had tremendous pace during the late part of the race. But the Fifth Third Bank car was great today. I thought our guys did a tremendous job. For our team, after [disappointment in] Texas, this feels extremely good for us.»

Ted Klaus (President, Honda Performance Development) on today’s Honda win in the GMR Grand Prix: «It’s fantastic for Honda to break through and win on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. Every victory at this famous speedway is special. Scott Dixon and Chip Ganassi Racing got it done once again, and we had three HPD teams in the top four with Graham Rahal for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Colton Herta with Andretti Autosport. Congrats to everyone at HPD and our partner teams who helped make this great day happen. Everyone earned it today!»

LOS ANGELES, July 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Today Autoproyecto launched a new editorial series titled the ‘Hispanic Impact Report.’ This multi-article series will focus on the impact Hispanics have on the automotive market and the efforts manufacturers make to earn their trust and brand loyalty. A new segment of the report will be published each week throughout the summer, culminating in September during Hispanic Heritage month.

«This is a critical time for Hispanic consumers and many are waking up to the significance of their purchasing power, especially younger buyers who are more socially and environmentally focused than their parents,» said Camilo Alfaro, Autoproyecto Founder & CEO. «As a result of this consumer shift, we’re altering our journalism efforts to move beyond simple product recommendations to include more socially conscious reasons for recommending certain brands over others.» Alfaro also acknowledged, «Our readers demand responsible and transparent reporting – they understand they are voting with their wallets.»

The series is being developed both through Autoproyecto’s in-house editorial research team and interviews with the top ten automotive brands by sales volume to Hispanics. It will be hosted at on a special section titled Hispanidad on Autoproyecto’s homepage and promoted through Autoproyecto’s 360 media ecosystem: Autoproyecto.com, social channels, podcasts, OTT channels (Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV), and national / cable television (NBC Telemundo and CNN Espanol).

According to the Selig Center for Economic Growth, the $1.5 trillion Hispanic market is the largest ethnic market in the U.S., and includes more than one out of every six Americans.

Overall, the Hispanic population has a younger median age, over-indexes on digital platform use, enjoys rising incomes and demonstrates higher population growth when compared to the general market. According to various census and car buying reports, Hispanics represent 18% of the US population, yet account for 24% of all car sales and have the potential to buy more cars over their lifetime than non-hispanics.

«The series was developed to address the lack of information on Hispanics with respect to the automotive industry,» added Alfaro. «The 2010 Census created a lot of energy around marketing to Hispanics but since 2015, information and access to information has declined.  With the 2020 Census around the corner, we believe there will be renewed interest in the Hispanic community and we plan to be at the forefront by reporting information that helps automotive marketers reach this demographic more effectively.»

The Hispanic community has been referred to as the sleeping giant because of its untapped potential. Nowhere is this more evident than the Hispanic automotive market.

IRVINE, California, June 30, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Nearly a decade after the 2011 Kia Optima paved the way for one of the auto industry’s most significant growth and achievement stories, Kia Motors America (KMA) is resetting expectations once again with the reveal of the all-new K5 mid-size sedan. Representing one of the biggest leaps forward between generations in recent automotive history, the K5 celebrates this bold new chapter in Kia’s story with an equally bold name to emphasize the mid-size sedan’s revolutionary design, all-new safety and performance enhanced «N3» platform, turbocharged engines, available all-wheel drive1, and high-impact technology. In other words, Kia’s «Give It Everything» philosophy in the U.S. is evident and «alive» in this new machine.

But why try to reimagine the sedan, especially during a time when the market continues to shift towards crossovers and SUVs? Fueled by an unstoppable spirit to push harder and work smarter, Kia was determined to give it everything instead of giving up; completely rethinking the traditional sedan.

Going on sale this summer, the K5 will be available in four trim levels (LX, LXS, GT-Line, EX), with the adrenaline-fueled GT to follow later in the fall.

A Daring, New Design Identity

A catalyst for the further transformation of Kia’s lineup, the K5’s powerful and angular design language represents another chapter of boldness and passion for the brand. The centerpiece is Kia’s modernized «tiger face,» with the wide and thin front grille extending into the headlight and hood structure. From the side, the K5’s low-slung and fastback silhouette confirms the impression it was made to run, highlighted by a chrome garnish that spans the roofline and wraps around the rear glass. A number of other exterior design traits give the K5 an unexpected level of visual impact:

  • Shark skin-inspired mesh design on front grille and dual chrome exhaust tip garnish (GT-Line, GT)
  • Signature «Heart Beat» daytime running lights and taillights with available LED «dashes» span the width of the rear deck lid
  • Gloss black applique on rear glass enhances fastback shape while maintaining sedan functionality and cargo space
  • Newly designed 16-, 18-, or 19-inch alloy wheels (18- and 19-inch wheels come with sporty Pirelli P-Zero tires)

Harmonizing the open layout of the cockpit is a newly designed infotainment display that seamlessly stretches into the instrument panel, creating a futuristic, three-dimensional layout and driver-centric space. Other interior highlights include:

  • Aircraft-type shift knob
  • A mix of premium and sporty upholstery options including red leatherette seating, satin chrome metallic and wood-like finishes on the dashboard and door panels, depending on trim
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Flat-bottom, sport steering wheel (GT-Line, GT)

At the Root of it All

The K5’s new identity starts with the advanced third-generation «N3» platform, which will serve as the foundation for future Kia models. In this application, the platform allows the K5 to sit longer, lower and wider compared to its predecessor, resulting in its aggressive profile and deeper center of gravity for a more exciting driving experience. Additional highlights include:

  • Increased exterior dimensions in all the right places for a sport sedan look and feel
    • Length: 193.1 inches (+2 inches over Kia’s outgoing Optima)
    • Width: 73.2 inches (+1 inch)
    • Height: 56.9 inches (-0.8 inches)
    • Wheelbase: 112.2 inches (+1.8 inches)
  • Suspension geometry optimized for sporty handling, responsiveness and stability
  • Increased average tensile strength and additional hot stamped parts makes for a solid body in white
  • Improved sound deadening materials result in a quieter and more premium cabin
    • Acoustic laminated windshield standard on all K5 trims

More Turbo. More Traction

Kia’s exhilarating and efficient powertrain options unleash the spirit of the everyday driver, with a «turbocharged» lineup that includes a choice of two powerful engines. Kia engineers further pushed the envelope with an available eight-speed «wet» dual-clutch transmission for fast and precise gearshifts, plus an available all-wheel drive system for improved traction and capability. More details include:

  • 2.5-liter turbocharged GDI + MPI four-cylinder engine making 290 horsepower and 311 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with the new 8-speed «wet» Dual Clutch Transmission (GT) goes 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds2
    • A first for Kia, the in-house developed, 8-speed «wet» DCT helps K5 establish credentials as a  sports sedan
  • 1.6-liter turbocharged GDI four-cylinder engine producing 180 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque, managed by an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission (LX, LXS, GT-Line, EX)
    • Engine adopts Continuously Variable Valve Duration (CVVD) functionality. An industry first, this technology results in a performance boost and improvement in efficiency thanks to independent control of the valve duration
  • Available all-wheel drive3 (AWD) provides all-weather capabilities and enhanced driving performance by actively distributing torque between the front and rear wheels, depending on road conditions and driving situations (LXS & GT-Line option). AWD will be available in late 2020.
    • The K5’s all-wheel drive system is front-wheel drive based, which is a first for a Kia sedan.
    • Uses electro-hydraulic system to control AWD coupling for a quicker response and more precise control
    • «Snow» drive mode4 enhances driver security and all-weather confidence
  • Normal, Smart, Sport, and Custom drive modes adjust settings for engine, transmission, AWD (when equipped) and steering mapping to provide the desired driving experience
    • GT steps it up with Sport+ mode to enhance driving characteristics

Next Level Technology

New wireless features minimize cord clutter and keep the cockpit clean, while a seamless infotainment display layout and voice command system help keep the driver’s eyes on the road. Some technology and convenience highlights to look out for include:

  • 8- or 10.25-inch high-resolution color touchscreen5
    • Split-screen functionality and available satellite radio
    • Available 10.25-inch inch touchscreen adds:
      • Server-based available navigation system provides real-time traffic data
      • New multi-connection Bluetooth6 wireless connectivity that lets two phones connect simultaneously
      • UVO telematics with connected user profiles, allowing different drivers to create the environment they desire with the perfect seat position, outside mirror placement, and favorite radio stations
  • Bose7 Premium sound system, available with 12 high-performance speakers
    • Bose Centerpoint technology converts stereo sources into a richer surround-sound experience
    • Dynamic Speed Compensation analyzes the sound source and automatically adjusts it according to driving speed
  • Active Sound Design provides a dynamic auditory experience by enhancing the sound of engine acceleration and gear shifts according to the selected drive mode
  • A first for Kia, wireless Apple CarPlay8 and Android Auto9 cuts the cord on charging cables, meaning drivers can enjoy being connected without being plugged in (wireless functionality not available on 10.25-inch navigation system)
  • Available wireless smartphone charging10 with drop-in design keeps smartphones at reach and secured inside the charging pad
    • Reduced charging time with increased charge rates
    • Added cooling fan
  • Available natural language voice recognition software recognizes a number commands including «turn on the A/C,» and «heat the steering wheel.»
  • Newly available Smart Key functions
    • Remote Engine Start and Climate pre-acclimatizes the cabin before passengers enter the vehicle. The standard dual-zone control system can automatically set cabin temperature to a comfortable 72 degrees from the Smart Key
    • With hands-free Smart Trunk, access to the rear conveniently pops open when the Smart Key is detected behind the vehicle
  • Standard Rear Occupant Alert11: Designed to provide a message in the instrument cluster for the driver to «Check rear seats» in order to help prevent leaving the vehicle with a rear passenger left inside; the message appears when the driver door is opened after a rear passenger door has been opened and closed.
  • «Sound of Nature» ambient system creates a peaceful retreat inside K5 with six calming themes

The «Kia Drive Wise» suite of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS)12 has more to offer, with some of the key features including:

  • Standard Forward Collision Warning (FCW): Designed to detect a vehicle in front and in certain conditions, can calculate the distance and closing speed, and issues an alert to warn the driver if it senses a potential frontal collision.
  • Standard Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA): Builds on FCW by assisting the driver in braking to help prevent a collision or lessen the effects in certain conditions if a vehicle or object is detected in front.
    • Standard FCA-Pedestrian builds on FCW by detecting vehicles, objects and pedestrians in front
    • Available FCA-Cyclist builds on FCW by detecting vehicles, objects, pedestrians, and cyclists in front
  • Standard Driver Attention Warning (DAW)13: Senses inattentive driving patterns and sends an audible/visual warning to alert the driver.
    • Adds Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA): Alerts driver with a chime when the leading vehicle begins to move forward from a standing position.
  • Standard Lane Following Assist (LFA): Follows lane markings that the system detects and provides steering inputs to help maintain the vehicle in the center of the lane.
  • Available Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) – Junction Turning (FCA-JT): Assists the driver in braking to help prevent a collision or lessen the effects in certain conditions when turning left and an oncoming vehicle is approaching.
  • Available Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA): Under certain conditions, can detect vehicles traveling in the next lane. When a vehicle is «seen» in the blind spot, the vehicle brakes the outer wheel under certain conditions to help return the vehicle to its lane.
  • Available Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist (RCCA): Helps detect most approaching cross traffic when in reverse. When approaching cross traffic is detected, the system alerts the driver and applies brakes.
  • Available Parking Distance Warning-Reverse (PDW-R): Detects certain objects behind the vehicle, issuing an audible warning when an obstruction is detected. The warning tone chimes faster as the vehicle gets closer to the detected object.
  • Available Parking Collision Avoidance Assist (PCA-R): Uses rear view camera and rear ultrasonic sensors to help detect most pedestrians or nearby obstacles when the vehicle backs out of a parking spot, warning drivers with a chime and can engage brakes to prevent a collision.
  • Available Navigation Based Smart Cruise Control-Curve (NSCC-C): leverages the navigation system to lower the vehicle’s speed proactively before upcoming curves.
  • Available Highway Driving Assist (HDA)14: Uses federal highway speed limit information from the navigation system and, under certain conditions, will automatically adjust speed to be within the posted speed limit and maintain distance with the vehicle detected in front.
  • Available Safe Exist Assist (SEA)15: Can alert the driver or passengers opening their door not to exit the vehicle when the system detects approaching traffic. When detected, a chime sounds. The system can intervene to lock the rear doors when the vehicle is equipped with available Power Child Lock.
