ST. PETERSBURG, Florida, Oct. 26, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Honda today claimed its ninth INDYCAR Manufacturers’ Championship – and third consecutive title – as Scott Dixon scored the 15th podium finish for the company this season and succeeded in earning his sixth Drivers’ title, highest among all active drivers and trailing only the legendary A.J. Foyt in career championships won.

Scott Dixon scored his sixth INDYCAR Drivers' Championship Sunday at the season-ending Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, while Honda claimed its third consecutive Manufacturers' Title.

For Honda and Honda Performance Development, the company’s North American racing division, today’s result marks the first championship «three-peat» of titles in the 27-year history of HPD.  Entering Indy car competition in 1994, Honda won its first manufacturers’ title in 1996.  Additional championships followed in 1998-99, 2001, 2004-05, and 2018-19.

Dixon’s championship is the 17th for a Honda-powered Indy car driver, and the 11th with multi-manufacturer competition.  Now a Honda Indy car team owner, Jimmy Vasser won Honda’s first drivers’ title in 1996.  Other Honda-powered Indy car champions include Alex Zanardi (1997-98); Juan Pablo Montoya (1999); Gil de Ferran (2000-01); Tony Kanaan (2004); Dan Wheldon (2005); Sam Hornish Jr. (2006); Dario Franchitti (2007, 2009-11); and Dixon (2008, 2013, 2018, 2020).

Today’s 100-lap season finale took place in hot and very humid conditions, resulting in a brief, light rain shower with approximately 20 laps remaining.  Pole qualifier Will Power led the opening five laps, but was soon passed by Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi, who went on to lead a race-high 61 laps before ending his day with wall contact on Lap 74.

Other Honda-powered race leaders included Colton Herta, Graham Rahal, James Hinchcliffe and Alex Palou.  But shortly after Rossi’s crash, Herta also slid off course, leading to an 11th-place finish.  Just moments later, Hinchcliffe was the next to fall victim to the tricky conditions, spinning in the final turn and then colliding with fellow Honda driver Jack Harvey as he attempted to rejoin the circuit.  Both would have to pit for repairs, dropping them out of the lead pack. Palou’s fuel gamble came up this a few laps shy of a podium finish, as his late stop for a splash dropped him to 13th at the checkers.

Meanwhile, after starting 11th – and needing only a top-10 finish to clinch the title – Dixon methodically worked his way to the front, moving into third on Lap 80.  Combined with four wins during the 14-race season, the podium result was more than enough for Dixon to claim the title.

Sunday’s race concludes Honda’s championship-winning 2020 NTT IndyCar Series. The 2021 season gets underway March 7, with a return to the Florida Gulf Coast for the next running of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Team Telluriders triumphantly crossed the finish line in the 2020 Telluride in the fifth annual Rebelle Rally, coming in overall second place in the X-Cross class. The powerhouse duo, made up of Alyssa Roenigk (driver) and Sabrina Howells (navigator), demonstrated their «Give it Everything» attitude, using their invaluable set of skills to make smart and calculated decisions tailored to the Telluride’s capability, ultimately allowing it to shine and finish the tough, off-road rally.

Telluriders Team celebrates victory on the Rebelle Rally podium

«This is a momentous achievement for Kia,» said Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia Motors North America & Kia Motors America. «Thanks to Alyssa and Sabrina’s grit in the arduous Rebelle Rally, they helped raise the Telluride’s credibility to new heights. Their huge accomplishment will go down in Kia history and we couldn’t be more proud of our team.»

From Lake Tahoe to the border of Mexico, Team Telluriders graciously handled whatever challenges the course threw at them. After facing tougher obstacles on rocky terrain at the start, Alyssa and Sabrina were keen on the Telluride’s strengths, using it to their advantage in the following days to result in several stage wins.

«Alyssa, Sabrina and the Telluride did such a great job in this year’s rally,» said Rebelle Rally founder, Emily Miller. We consider the vehicle as the third teammate, and all three handled the challenge with grace. They are an exceptional team.»

The team was able to clinch second place in the X-Cross class after excelling in the sand dunes, where the Telluride effortlessly floated over the sandy landscape to hit several checkpoints first before several competitors, taking the win for the most points scored on the final day of the competition.

«We are so proud of our overall performance and our comeback to take second in the X-Cross category at the 2020 Rebelle Rally,» said Alyssa and Sabrina. «On the final day, when we pulled up to  checkpoints deep in the Imperial Sand Dunes and saw the look on the faces of the 4×4 teams when we beat them there – that is a memory that will stick in our minds for a long time. The Telluride was an incredibly capable third teammate and we were grateful for the opportunity to take her on such an awesome adventure.»

Kia was a first-time competitor in the fifth annual Rebelle Rally, competing in the X-Cross Class with minimal modifications, including a skidplate to protect the fuel and oil pan area and all-terrain tires.

BRASELTON, Georgia, Oct. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Dane Cameron claimed the second consecutive WeatherTech SportsCar Championship pole for Acura Team Penske Friday at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta to lead an all-Acura ARX-05 front row; while Shinya Michimi claimed his first IMSA pole with his Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo in the production-based GTD class.

Dane Cameron captures Acura's fourth consecutive IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship pole of the season Friday at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

Acura Team Penske
Cameron took his #6 ARX-05 to the pole in a hard fought 15-minute session to set the field for Saturday’s 10-hour Petit Le Mans endurance contest, setting a new lap record to edge his teammate Ricky Taylor in the #7 Acura by 0.094 seconds.

The pole is the second of the season for Cameron, and the fourth consecutive WeatherTech SportsCar Championship pole for Acura Team Penske this season, a streak that started at Road America in August.

Taylor completed the front-row sweep for Acura, in the car he will share with Helio Castroneves and Alexander Rossi tomorrow, while Cameron’s co-drivers at Road Atlanta will be Juan Pablo Montoya and Simon Pagenaud as Acura Team Penske seeks a fourth consecutive victory tomorrow.

Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3
Shinya Michimi, third driver for Meyer Shank Racing in the long-distance rounds of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, claims his first career pole in the #86 Acura he shares with full-season drivers Mario Farnbacher and Matt McMurry.  Michimi battled for fastest lap honors throughout the 15-minute qualifying, eventually besting the Ferrari 488 GT3 of Jeff Westphal by 17 hundredths of a second to take the GTD pole.

In the #57 Heinricher Racing with MSR Acura, Misha Goikberg qualified sixth in the NSX GT3 Evo he shares with fellow full-season driver Alvaro Parente and endurance-race driver Trent Hindman.

Where to Watch
Live network television coverage from Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta begins at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, October 17, for six hours on the NBC Sports Network.  Coverage will resume on NBCSN from 9:30 p.m. EDT to the finish.  Live flag-to-flag race coverage also will be available on the NBC Sports App and NBCSN Gold with NBCSN Trackpass authentication.

Quote
Dane Cameron (#6 Acura Team Penske ARX-05) pole qualifier, new lap record; Cameron’s second consecutive pole this season and 14th career IMSA pole; the fourth consecutive pole of 2020 for Acura Team Penske: «When we were here in September [for the six-hour race], I thought we missed the [qualifying] setup a little bit, so we made a few changes to get the car a bit more on the limit.  I took a lot of risks on that [pole qualifying] lap, so we’re really, really happy with the result.»

Shinya Michimi (#86 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo) pole qualifier, first IMSA pole, 12th pole for Meyer Shank Racing, new GTD lap record for Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta: «I haven’t had too many IMSA starts, but I’ve been with the right team this year – Meyer Shank Racing did an awesome job to give me a fast car today.  Our Acura NSX GT3 has been amazing and everyone at HPD has been amazing. It feels great to get pole and we’re building on our success from last month’s win here. But today was just 5% of the work, we have the whole 10-hours tomorrow. We’re definitely going to go and try to get the win.»

TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 14, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Today’s unveiling of the Acura MDX Prototype previews the fourth-generation of the class-defining Acura MDX, America’s all-time best-selling three-row luxury SUV1. On sale early next year, the new MDX will assume the flagship role in the Acura lineup as the most premium, performance-focused and technologically sophisticated SUV in Acura history. Twenty years after the launch of the first-generation model, the bold new design and sumptuously appointed interior of the new MDX will be bolstered by an arsenal of new Acura technologies, an all-new performance-focused platform with MDX’s first-ever double wishbone front suspension, and the first application of the Type S high performance moniker to an Acura SUV.

«The new MDX marks a turning point for Acura as our new flagship and the most far-reaching effort yet to deliver on our Precision Crafted Performance brand promise,» said Jon Ikeda, vice president and Acura brand officer. «We knew we needed to deliver something more emotional and premium with performance at its core. This new MDX builds on the past 20 years of success and elevates the model to an even stronger position in the market.»

Exterior Design

Enveloped in striking matte finish, the MDX Prototype, shown in both Liquid Carbon and Performance Red, makes a bold statement with its more dynamic and muscular design. The upright grille and long, sculpted hood convey power and presence and are anchored to an even lower and wider body with bulging shoulders and a greenhouse set further back, enabling a 6-inch increase in dash-to-axle dimension.

Signature elements of Acura’s next-generation design language are elegantly integrated with the new more premium and athletic form of MDX, including a three-dimensional Diamond Pentagon grille flanked by four-element JewelEye® LED headlights, underscored by Chicane™ LED daytime running lights, inspired by the Acura ARX-05 race car. The front fascia has been sculpted to highlight the wide grille, integrating fog light housings under side vents that further emphasize the new MDX’s wider track.

In profile view, the 21-inch wheels have been pushed to the corners, giving the MDX Prototype a nearly 3-inch longer wheelbase, aiding both ride quality and more spacious seating in all three rows, as well as a larger and more versatile cargo hold. A sharply sculpted beltline connects the front and rear, where the wide-set Chicane™ LED taillights echo the headlight treatment in front.

Next Level Interior

Befitting its new flagship status, the MDX Prototype presages the production model’s more premium and sophisticated cabin design, with a cleaner, more upright instrument panel taking on a wide structural motif. High-grade, authentic materials trim the interior including open-pore wood with infused metallic flake, polished aluminum and soft-touch Milano leather. An elegant mix of Ebony and Light Orchid leather graces the instrument panel and steering wheel with French stitched detailing. Next-generation Acura sport seats offer a more sculpted form with curvilinear quilting in all three rows, gradient perforation, and high-contrast stitching and piping.

The MDX’s wider body design enables first-class seating with more legroom in all three rows, and notably more headroom for front and third-row occupants. An ultra-wide panoramic moonroof opens the cabin up to provide natural light to all three rows.

Optimally bolstered Acura sport seats offer 16-way power adjustment and integrated massage functionality with a class-leading nine massage modes to relax the driver and front passenger after an exhilarating drive. Acura’s Iconic Drive™ LED illuminates the entire MDX cabin with 27 different lighting schemes tied to driving modes and representative of various locations, such as iconic roads and race circuits around the world.

Advanced Technology

Featuring a myriad of leading-edge Acura technologies, the MDX Prototype debuts Acura’s all-digital Precision Cockpit™, replacing physical gauges with a customizable 12.3-inch driver’s meter. The new MDX also gains the latest generation of Acura’s intuitive and driver-focused True Touchpad Interface™, featuring an ultra-wide, 12.3-inch, full-HD center display (Acura’s largest implementation yet), Acura-exclusive touchpad with «absolute positioning» and a new CPU for improved performance.

The «Signature Edition» ELS STUDIO 3D® premium audio system in the MDX Prototype sets a new standard for concert-quality in-vehicle audio with more than 1000 watts of power, 22 discrete channels and 25 speakers. This elevated tier of ELS system features six ceiling-mounted Highline™ speakers and six carbon fiber coned mid-range woofers including two positioned innovatively in the front console to create a «Center of the Studio» experience with perfect left to right balance. Tuned and perfected by eight-time Grammy® award-winning music producer and sound engineer, Elliot Scheiner, this is the most advanced and powerful audio system ever offered in an Acura vehicle.

Elevated safety technologies include the latest generation of Acura’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) Body Structure, with enhanced occupant and pedestrian collision protection capabilities, bolstered by an expanded suite of AcuraWatch™ safety and driver-assistive technologies, including enhanced Road Departure Mitigation, new Traffic Jam Assist and new Low Speed Braking Control. Acura’s next-generation front passenger airbag technology, first seen on the new 2021 TLX and offering improved occupant protection in a wider variety of frontal collision scenarios, will be standard on all new MDX models.

Performance at its Core

The fourth-generation MDX debuts an all-new light truck platform built for athletic handling, refined ride comfort and exceptional cabin quietness. The most rigid Acura SUV body to date, the new MDX is engineered to support Type S-levels of performance as well as advanced collision and pedestrian safety. Anchored to the ultra-rigid new body is a new performance-focused chassis featuring MDX’s first-ever double wishbone front suspension, delivering sharp and sporty handling with improved road holding and ride comfort.

Further aiding handling and all-weather performance is Acura’s available fourth-generation Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®), the only dynamic torque vectoring technology in MDX’s competitive class, extracting maximum grip and cornering precision from the all-new chassis. Superior stopping performance is enabled with Brembo® four-piston brake calipers, finished in a striking Ivory paint, at all four corners.

Drivers can customize the ride, handling, steering, suspension and powertrain performance characteristics using the MDX’s Intelligent Dynamics System (IDS). The IDS unlocks a wider range of personalized driving experiences through pre-set modes as well as giving drivers the ability to customize an Individual dynamic driving mode via the NSX-inspired Drive Mode dial, positioned prominently on the center console.

Powering the fourth-generation MDX will be one of two new powertrains. Standard power will come from Acura’s 3.5-liter V6 with i-VTEC® valvetrain, connected to an incredibly responsive and refined 10-speed automatic transmission. The upcoming MDX Type S will feature a Type S-exclusive 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 producing an estimated 355 horsepower and 354 lb.-ft. of torque, the most powerful engine ever offered in an Acura SUV. All MDX Type S models will put power to the ground through Acura’s fourth-generation SH-AWD® system.

Twenty Years of MDX

Debuting in 2000 as the North American Truck of the Year, the original 2001 Acura MDX was the industry’s first three-row crossover SUV, defining an entirely new category of vehicles that now dominate the segment. Over the past 20 years, across three generations of development, MDX has established itself as America’s all-time best-selling three-row luxury SUV and one of only a handful of luxury models to earn more than 1 million U.S. customers in the past two decades2. MDX also recently surpassed the TL as the best-selling Acura model of all-time.

The fourth-generation MDX will join its three predecessors as designed, developed and produced in North America. The all-new MDX will be built at the company’s East Liberty, Ohio, auto plant, while both the 3.5-liter V6 and new Type S-exclusive 3.0-liter Turbo V6 engines will be produced at the company’s Anna, Ohio, engine plant, which also manufactures the NSX supercar’s twin-turbocharged hybrid V6 power unit. Acura’s 10-speed automatic transmission is built exclusively at the company’s Tallapoosa, Georgia, transmission plant.

Hyundai Motor Group (the Group) announced today that Euisun Chung, Executive Vice Chairman, was inaugurated to the position of Chairman of the Group. Chairman Mong-Koo Chung was inaugurated to the position of Honorary Chairman.

Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Motors Corporation and Hyundai Mobis Co. each held extraordinary board meetings today to discuss the inauguration. All members of the boards unanimously endorsed the inauguration of Euisun Chung as the new Chairman of the Group.

Hyundai Motor Group will open a new chapter in its history under Euisun Chung’s leadership. Embracing the vision ‘Together for a Better Future,’ the Group will develop and acquire key technologies and capabilities to overcome market uncertainties, including COVID-19.

In his inauguration remarks, Euisun Chung presented the future direction of the Group as one focused on ‘customers,’ ‘humanity,’ ‘future,’ and ‘social contribution.’

«All of our goals and efforts must be customer-centric. The first step to customer happiness is to enable them to focus on their own lives through perfect quality of our products and services,» said the newly inaugurated Chairman Chung.

Over the years, Chung has stressed the customer-centric approach and customer satisfaction, and applied the concept more broadly to all of humanity.

«For the free movement and prosperity of humanity, we will develop the world’s most innovative and reliable autonomous driving technology, offering entirely new mobility experiences,» said the Chairman. Chung is spearheading the Group’s transformation from an automaker into a future mobility solution provider.

The Group will offer mobility solutions tailored to customer lifestyles and continue to grow its market leadership in various fields, including autonomous driving, electrification, hydrogen fuel cell, robotics and Urban Air Mobility (UAM).

The Group recently formed a venture Motional Inc. with Aptiv to develop and deploy industry-leading full autonomous driving technology. It is collaborating with partners around the globe to provide mobility services that meet the varying needs of different regions.

Furthermore, Chung foresaw the powerful possibilities of hydrogen energy and championed the growth of hydrogen ecosystem, with broad implementation of fuel cell technology beyond automobiles.

«Our world-class hydrogen fuel cell technology will be used not only in automobiles, but also in various fields, as an eco-friendly energy solution for the future of humanity,» said Chung. «We will also realize the future of our imagination through Robotics, Urban Air Mobility (UAM), Smart City and other innovations. These groundbreaking advancements will offer a higher plane of life experiences for humanity.»

In his remarks, he also stressed the importance of social contribution to the communities in which the Group operates, reflecting on his long-time commitment to communities and the future generation.

«Hyundai Motor Group aims to become a company cherished for realizing humanity’s dream of safe and free movement and a peaceful life, as well as sharing its fruits with customers around the world.»

The Group’s transformation under Chung is also taking place internally, with an emphasis on flexibility and agility like that of tech companies. Under his leadership, the Group is accelerating its efforts toward a healthier corporate culture by empowering its employees and encouraging horizontal communication.

«If each and every employee thinks of oneself as a pioneer, and channel that positive energy into our growth and that of our future generations, I am certain we will seize fresh opportunities out of crises,» said Chung. «I will foster a company culture that respects communication and autonomy. I will help cultivate a creative work environment, where talents are respected and realized to the fullest.»

The Group will also streamline its decision-making processes to make them more timely and transparent, and strengthen communication with the market to boost shareholder value.

Chung has been recognized for his innovative vision and for leading the Group’s key businesses successfully over the past two years as the Executive Vice Chairman.

He steered the turnaround of Kia Motors’ business during his tenure as President, and led the growth of Hyundai Motor amid the global financial crisis and successfully launched the luxury brand Genesis as Vice Chairman.

Mong-Koo Chung, new Honorary Chairman of the Group, recently expressed his wish to move on and asked Euisun Chung to lead the Group’s future growth and innovation beyond the current challenges.

Honorary Chairman Chung is widely acknowledged for his contribution to the advancement of global auto industry, and he was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2020.

He brought Kia Motors into the Group during the Asian financial crisis in the 1990s and turned the company into a successful global automaker. He also grew Hyundai and Kia into global automotive companies and advanced Korea as a leading nation in the automotive industry.

His key to the success of Hyundai Motor Group was making quality the number one priority. Honorary Chairman Chung established a standardized plant construction system to assure consistent high-quality production for Hyundai and Kia vehicles around the world, and built one of the world’s largest research and development centers to strengthen the Group’s competitiveness.

Honorary Chairman Chung also introduced a new paradigm in sustainable management with the construction of the integrated steel mill Hyundai Steel Co., which helped maximize synergy within the Group with the world’s first resource circulation business structure.

Euisun Chung affirmed that he will continue and build upon the legacies of Founding Chairman Juyung Chung and Honorary Chairman Mong-Koo Chung.

«Carrying on their legacies, I would like to usher in a bold new future of Hyundai Motor Group with every single one of you,» said Chairman Chung. «There may be hurdles in our journey of entering a new future. But the spirit of Hyundai Motor Group has always made the impossible possible by encouraging optimism and team spirit.»

Widely regarded by experts as the benchmark midsize sedan, Honda raises the Accord’s game for the 2021 model year with a refresh that includes updates to styling, technology, drivability and safety features. In addition, unique upgrades were made to performance and design for the ultra-efficient and refined Accord Hybrid. On-sale at Honda dealerships beginning tomorrow, the 2021 Accord carries a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting at $24,770 (excluding destination/handling).

«The new Honda Accord Hybrid is really the Accord to buy, offering customers more of everything they like about Accord — more power, refinement and, of course, excellent fuel economy ratings,» said Dave Gardner, executive vice president of National Operations at American Honda.

2021 ACCORD UPGRADES
For the 2021 model year, all Accords boast a wider, restyled grille for an even more sophisticated look, along with improved integration of the Honda Sensing® system’s radar unit. Flanking the new grille on Sport and above trims (EX and above on Hybrid) are new LED high- and low-beam headlights with longer and wider down-the-road illumination. Also new are smaller openings for the fog lights. Additionally, LX, EX-L and Touring trims all receive new alloy wheel designs, while a new color is available for Sport, Sport Special Edition (SE) and Touring trims: Sonic Gray Pearl.

Inside, further enhancements to the class-leading style and sophistication of Accord’s cabin include an 8-inch Display Audio touchscreen entertainment system now standard on all trims (previously, EX and above). Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration also are now standard (previously EX and above), and EX-L and Touring trims (EX and above on Hybrid models) get new wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration.

The combination of wireless charging and wireless smartphone integration eliminates the extra step of physically connecting the phone, making Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ ready to go and freeing up an additional USB port for charging a separate phone. Front USB ports on all grades have been moved to the front of the center console for easier access, and Sport and higher trims (EX and higher trims for Accord Hybrid) now include dual 2.5-volt USB ports for rear seat passengers.

All Accords also receive a new Rear Seat Reminder, while upper grades gain a new Low Speed Braking Control system.

ACCORD HYBRID
The 2021 Accord Hybrid benefits from updates to the innovative Honda two-motor hybrid system for a more direct and immediate throttle response with a more natural acceleration feeling as engine revs climb in concert with the driver’s throttle input. With a peak total system output of 212 horsepower and peak torque delivery of 232 lb.-ft. right off idle, Accord Hybrid has the most power and torque in its class, with a top fuel economy rating of 48 mpg1.

Thanks to the unique configuration of the two-motor hybrid system, the Accord Hybrid also can spend more time operating solely on electric power than competing hybrid models, imbuing Accord with a smoother and more refined driving feel. Also, Accord’s sophisticated brake-by-wire technology offers more natural and consistent braking performance and pedal feel versus competing models, seamlessly blending mechanical and regenerative braking force.

Honda’s two-motor hybrid system uses a propulsion motor and a generator/starter motor built with a patented Honda design made with magnets using no heavy rare-earth metals. This reduces magnet cost and weight, while also reducing reliance on rare-earth metals, helping avoid the often negative environmental impact of mining them.

The hybrid powertrain control system manages the power delivery between each component and seamlessly switches between EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive for maximum efficiency with no input from the driver. Accord Hybrid drivers can further maximize fuel efficiency, or power, by selecting between Sport, EV and ECON modes using the three buttons behind the push-button gear selector.

Already, Honda leads all full-line automakers in fleet-average fuel economy and low CO2 emissions according to the U.S. EPA, with 27 vehicles that received EPA combined fuel economy ratings of 30 mpg or higher.

Visually, Accord Hybrid adds its own unique touches to the styling updates made to the entire 2021 Accord lineup, including a blue H-mark on the grille and Hybrid badges on the front fenders and trunk lid. This year, Accord Hybrid Touring grade features 19-inch wheels, giving it an upscale and sporty appearance.

NEW SPORT SPECIAL EDITION
The Accord Sport SE is new to the lineup for 2021, replacing Accord EX 1.5T and expands on the popular Sport trim with additional sought-after features. The new Sport SE adds leather seats, heated front seats, a four-way power passenger seat to complement the addition of 12-way power driver’s seat, heated mirrors, Smart Entry, and remote engine start to the popular Accord Sport 1.5T grade. This is in addition to the already generous equipment on the Sport 1.5T, which includes dual rear USB ports, leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, leather-wrapped shift knob, and an 8-speaker audio system. Visually, Accord Sport and Sport SE are distinguished from the other trims by a rear trunk lid spoiler, trim-specific 19-inch wheel design, LED fog lights, dark-chrome grille and chrome exhaust finishers.

POWERTRAIN AND DRIVING DYNAMICS
In addition to the updates made to Accord Hybrid’s two-motor system, the 2021 Accord’s two turbocharged engines receive updated engine management software for more linear and responsive throttle control. In addition, the 1.5-liter turbo has improved Idle Stop performance, with quicker engine start-up when the driver releases the brake.

A 192-horspower 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo® engine is standard in Accord LX, Sport, Sport SE and EX-L grades, while Accord Sport 2.0T and Touring are available exclusively with a 252-horsepower, 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo®.

The braking system has also been updated for smoother engagement, especially at low speeds such as in stop-and-go traffic and in parking situations.

SAFETY AND DRIVER-ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGIES
For the 2021 model year, all Accords receive a new Rear Seat Reminder and a rear seatbelt reminder as standard equipment. The Rear Seat Reminder chimes when the car is turned off, with a notification on the digital meter reminding drivers to check the rear seating area when exiting the car for children, pets or other precious cargo. The rear seatbelt reminder uses a warning on the digital meter to let drivers know if rear seat passengers have not fastened their seatbelts.

Accord Touring and Hybrid Touring trims now feature a new front and rear braking system called Low Speed Braking Control. Using sonar-based parking sensors, the new system can sense solid objects at low speeds, such as in parking situations, and warn the driver or apply the brakes to help avoid or mitigate a collision.

Honda Sensing® receives updates to Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist system (LKAS). For 2021, ACC now has smoother braking when following another vehicle, while LKAS offers more effective and natural lane centering. Additionally, the steering wheel and dash controls for ACC and LKAS now feature industry-standard icons.

The 2021 Accord targets a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), including the highest available rating of GOOD in all collision tests and SUPERIOR for frontal cash prevention. Also, the updated standard LED headlights have been designed to achieve a GOOD rating in the rigorous IIHS headlight standard.

TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 7, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The 2021 Honda Ridgeline is set to launch early next year with a bold redesign that reflects its rugged and versatile pickup truck capabilities. Equally at home on dirt and mud-strewn trails as it is on the highway or twisting mountain roads, the 2021 Ridgeline features standard V6 power, class-leading ride and handling, the segment’s largest interior for passengers and gear, a brilliantly versatile bed, and the best standard AWD model payload capacity.

The 2021 Honda Ridgeline is set to launch early next year with a bold redesign that reflects its rugged and versatile pickup truck capabilities.

«Truck enthusiasts have long recognized Ridgeline as an incredibly versatile and capable pickup, and now it’s got the rugged looks to match,» said Art St. Cyr, vice president of Auto Operations for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. «The Ridgeline signals a new direction for our light-truck designs, one that more effectively communicates all the hard work that goes into making Honda pickups and SUVs such proficient on- and off-road performers.»

Exterior Redesign
The 2021 Ridgeline features all-new sheet metal from the front roof pillars forward. Design changes include a new hood sporting a pronounced power bulge, and new front fenders that emphasize the squared-off nose and more upright grille, flanked by LED headlights updated for better illumination. Atop the grille is a crossbar that bisects the headlight lenses – gloss black on Sport trims and Black edition, chrome on RTL and RTL-E. Below, a new front bumper highlights the toughness of the new Ridgeline’s design and adds broad side vents that route air through the bumper and around the front tires and wheels, creating air curtains to improve aerodynamic performance. The body color is also extended farther down the front bumper, and a prominent skid plate emphasizes Ridgeline’s tough new look. In back, a reshaped bumper exposes aggressive new twin exhaust outlets.

All trims feature tougher looking 18-inch wheels with backspacing reduced 10 mm, increasing track width a total of 20 mm and lending the Ridgeline a broader, more planted stance, bolstered by all-season tires with a new, more aggressive sidewall and shoulder design.

For those looking to take Ridgeline’s dynamic new styling to the next level, a new package created in collaboration with Honda Performance Development (HPD) answers the call. The new HPD Package adds a unique grille treatment, black fender flares, aggressive bronze-colored wheels, and special HPD graphics on the bed walls. Part of a new group of post-production options (PPO), the package will be available on all Ridgeline trims and is one of four new PPO packages that include Utility, Function and Function+ packages.

Interior Upgrades
The 2021 Ridgeline’s spacious cabin, which offers top-class passenger comfort and rear-seat legroom, receives an updated Display Audio system with crisp new graphics, easier-to-use touchscreen icons, and a physical volume knob. In addition, Ridgelines in Sport trim add new cloth seat inserts, all trims get new contrast stitching on the seats, and Sport, RTL and RTL-E trims have new dash, steering wheel and center console accents. Ridgeline’s flat floor and foldaway 60/40-split rear seat bottoms continue to offer enhanced flexibility for carrying long and tall items in the cabin.

Fully Automatic Torque-Vectoring AWD
Standard on every 2021 Honda Ridgeline is a 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter direct-injected VTEC® V6 backed by a smooth and responsive 9-speed automatic transmission. Available on Sport and RTL, and standard on RTL-E and Black Edition, is Ridgeline’s i-VTM4® torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system, which automatically sends up to 70 percent of the engine’s 262 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels and continuously apportions 100 percent of that torque between the left and right rear wheels based on driving conditions at each wheel. The Intelligent Traction Dynamics System, standard on all Ridgelines, optimizes power delivery and distribution for various conditions including snow and pavement for 2WD models, while Ridgelines equipped with i-VTM4® get additional selectable modes for mud and sand.

Ridgeline-Exclusive Platform Design
Underpinning its extraordinary packaging, hauling and driving character is Ridgeline’s unit-body construction, featuring Honda’s proprietary Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure and fully boxed frame members for the body sides and rear tailgate frame with truss-style inner construction, plus a robust fully independent rear suspension. This unique construction pays dividends with uncompromised ride comfort and handling on paved roads, while supporting a best-in-AWD class standard 1,580-pound payload capacity and up to 5,000-pound towing capacity.

Ridgeline’s extra-wide stance enables an extra-wide standard bed, making it the only truck in its class that can flat-carry 4-foot wide items, such as plywood and drywall, between the wheel wells. Based on the packaging efficiency of its unibody construction and independent rear suspension, Ridgeline also comes standard with a washable, lockable In-Bed Trunk®, offering an additional 7.3 cu.-ft. of secure storage space under the bed floor.

Ridgeline’s versatility as a cargo-hauling platform is enhanced by its Dual-Action Tailgate, which opens downward or to the side, making access to cargo and the In-Bed Trunk® a snap. The tailgate can handle dynamic loads of up to 300 pounds, supporting long payloads such as motorcycles and ATVs. Inside the bed are eight standard tie-down cleats rated at 350-pounds each, for securing loads, and the bed is constructed of glass fiber-reinforced SMC composite that resists dents and scratches without the need for a separate bed liner.

An available In-Bed Audio system utilizes four «exciters» to turn Ridgeline’s entire bed into an outdoor speaker (RTL-E and up trims). Combined with its Dual Action Tailgate and In-Bed Trunk, which can do double duty as an ice-filled cooler, Ridgeline is a great tailgating companion.

Safety & Driver-Assistive Technology
Ridgeline comes standard with the Honda Sensing®, featuring Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

The 2021 Ridgeline targets top-class collision safety ratings from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), including an NCAP 5-star Overall Vehicle Score, a GOOD rating in all IIHS collision tests, and a SUPERIOR IIHS rating for front crash prevention.

Design and Manufacturing
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline was designed and developed by Honda R&D Americas in California and Ohio, and is manufactured along with its V6 engine at the Honda plant in Lincoln, Alabama using domestic and globally-sourced parts. For the 4th straight year, the Ridgeline ranked in the top 10 in the 2020 Cars.com American Made Index.

More information about the 2021 Ridgeline, including prices and detailed specifications, will be available closer to its on-sale date early next year.

IRVINE, California, Oct. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — «Bring it!» said Alyssa Roenigk, «I’m beyond charged to get going.» Roenigk, a senior writer at sports media giant ESPN, will drive a 2020 Telluride SX in the fifth annual Rebelle Rally, an all-women, off-road navigational challenge held in the deserts of California and Nevada. Starting October 8 in Lake Tahoe, California, the rally will cover 1,500 miles in eight days before reaching the finish line, October 16, in the Imperial Sand Dunes, California. Roenigk’s navigator, Sabrina Howells, has a huge job guiding the team through the course using only old-fashioned paper maps and a compass—no GPS, no cell phones, no digital devices of any kind. «I can’t wait,» Howells said, «I really geek out on this stuff.»

Telluriders team tackles tough off-road Rebelle Rally

Rebelle Rally founder and accomplished endurance racer, Emily Miller, created the event to provide women a chance to challenge themselves and each other and to prevail in conditions that most people avoid. «This is no desert cruise,» she said, «rally participants will face heat, sand, rocks and cold – everything the desert can throw at them. When it’s over, they’ll have accomplished something significant.

«Having Kia on board for this year’s rally is fantastic,» said Miller, «the Telluride is an excellent vehicle and the Telluriders team is formidable. We’ll be watching with interest.»

Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia Motors North America & Kia Motors America is also looking forward to following the Telluriders team. «This is a significant event for Kia,» he said. «The Telluride is one of our most successful vehicles ever and the Rebelle Rally is a real test of its capability, durability and versatility. We expect it to perform extremely well and will be cheering on Alyssa and Sabrina as they take on this tough challenge.»

In addition to entering the Telluriders team in the rally, Kia Motors America is exclusive sponsor of the Live Show webcast to be broadcast live twice daily from locations along the rally route. Kia will also provide all rally participants with coffee and breakfast service in the Mojave backcountry, one of the rally’s most remote overnight stops.

«That will be killer,» said Rebelle Rally founder Emily Miller. «At that point in the rally, the women are exhausted and the last thing they want to think about in that location is how to get a hot cup of coffee and a hot breakfast. Kia delivering that to them will be huge.»

On October 8 at 8 a.m. PDT, Roenigk and Howells will participate in a virtual pre-rally interview. Other interview opportunities are also planned. Details to follow in a separate announcement.
