If You Were Injured By A Malfunctioning Takata Airbag, You May Still Be Eligible For Compensation Through The Special Master’s And Trustee’s Claim Process For Personal Injuries Or Wrongful Death.

BOSTON, Aug. 31, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The following statement is being issued by Professor Eric D. Green, Special Master for the Department of Justice’s Takata Airbag Individual Restitution Fund and Trustee of the Tort Compensation Trust Fund Created in the Takata Bankruptcy Cases.

Takata Defective Airbag Claims

Professor Eric D. Green, as Special Master and Trustee, announced a compensation program in May 2018 for individuals who have suffered or will suffer personal injury or wrongful death caused by the rupture or aggressive deployment of a Takata phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate airbag inflator (a «Takata Airbag Inflator Defect»).  Under that program, claimants may seek compensation from the Department of Justice’s $125 million Individual Restitution Fund («IRF») and/or the approximately $140 million Takata Airbag Tort Compensation Trust Fund («TATCTF»). The claim process is ongoing and eligible claimants still have time to act.

There are three types of claims that can be brought by individuals who suffered injury or wrongful death caused by a Takata Airbag Inflator Defect: (i) an «IRF Claim» against Takata for compensation from the IRF, the personal injury and wrongful death restitution fund overseen by the Special Master and established under the Restitution Order entered by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan in connection with the Department of Justice’s criminal case against Takata, U.S. v. Takata Corporation, Case No. 16-cr-20810 (E.D. Mich.); (ii) a «Trust Claim» against Takata for compensation from the TATCTF, the personal injury and wrongful death trust fund overseen by the Trustee and established in connection with Takata’s Chapter 11 Plan of Reorganization in the Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, and (iii) a «POEM Claim» against a Participating Original Equipment Manufacturer (a «POEM;» presently the only POEM is Honda/Acura) for compensation from the POEM, which must be resolved through the TATCTF overseen by the Trustee.

Each of these three types of claims has its own eligibility requirements; however, each claim type covers only physical injuries and wrongful death resulting from a Takata Airbag Inflator Defect. Claims related to injuries or wrongful death caused by other airbag components — such as airbag failure to deploy, spontaneous airbag deployment, crash injuries unrelated to the inflator, or economic losses unrelated to physical injuries or death — are not covered by the three types of claims described above.

Individuals can access the claim forms, which include detailed instructions regarding how to file a claim, on the IRF website, www.takataspecialmaster.com, or on the TATCTF website, www.TakataAirbagInjuryTrust.com.

Oversight of the Claims Process and Resources for More Information

Professor Green was appointed by the District Court to serve as the Special Master overseeing IRF Claims and was appointed by the Bankruptcy Court to serve as the Trustee overseeing Trust Claims and POEM Claims.

MADISON, Ill., Aug. 29, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ Scott Dixon vaulted into the lead following the final round of pit stops in today’s opening round in the doubleheader Bommarito Auto Group 500 race weekend, then held off a charging Takuma Sato to score Honda’s sixth NTT INDYCAR SERIES race victory of the season.

Scott Dixon won for the fourth time this year, and the sixth win for Honda in eight races, as he scored his 50th career victory today at World Wide Technology Raceway near St. Louis, Mo.

The win is Dixon’s fourth in eight races this season, and the 50th of his career, leading all active drivers. Honda, with six wins in 2020, now leads the INDYCAR Manufacturers’ Championship by 101 points over rival Chevrolet (688-579); while Dixon opens up a 117-point lead in the Drivers’ Championship, with 386 points to 269 for the second-ranked Josef Newgarden.

Today’s 200-lap contest started on a rough note, with three Honda drivers – Alexander Rossi, Zach Veach and Marco Andretti – among those eliminated in a multi-car crash just moments after race start.

After starting third, Dixon kept the leaders in sight throughout the first two-thirds of the race on the 1.25-mile oval.  Sato meanwhile, fell back to midfield in the early stages, but made improvements to the handling of his Rahal Letterman Lanigan Honda during each pit stop, and returned to contention for the win in the closing stages.

During the final round of pit stops on Lap 177, Dixon’s Chip Ganassi Racing team enabled him to leapfrog O’Ward for the lead, with Sato emerging in third.  Sato then executed a thrilling outside pass of O’Ward for second on Lap 179 and began his chase of Dixon for the victory. At the checkers, Dixon held on for the win by the narrow margin of just 14 hundredths of a second.

Behind the lead trio at the finish, Colton Herta continued his run of consistent results this year, ending the day fourth, with Markus Ericsson making it four Honda drivers in the top five at the checkers.

Today’s race was the opening round of a doubleheader NTT INDYCAR SERIES weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway. Tomorrow’s 200-lap finale starts at 3:30 p.m. EDT, with live coverage on the NBC Sports Network.

Quotes
Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) Started 3rd, finished 1st; scores his 50th career Indy car victory, his 4th and Honda’s 6th win of 2020; leads the NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship by 117 points after 8 races: «I can’t thank the PNC Bank crew enough. It was a superb race all day. I knew [Takuma] Sato was going to be strong at the end, but I didn’t realize how strong he was coming. We were kind of going into a reserve mode, looking after the engine, and he was there with a head of steam. [the margin of victory was just 0.1404 seconds] I am just so happy for this team. Last week at Indianapolis [when he finished second to Sato] was a bit of a bummer. So, it was nice to get a win. Fifty career-wins – that sounds awesome. We’ve got to keep on truckin’ and get a few more. But I can’t thank Honda and HPD enough. I’m proud to be powered by them.  What they’ve done, especially this year, is just phenomenal, and how quick their cars have been. This is just awesome.»

Takuma Sato (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Honda) Indianapolis 500 winner last weekend, started 5th, finished 2nd: «Obviously, the team did a fantastic job.  From last week [winning at Indianapolis], we carried a lot of momentum. We lost some places at the beginning of the race. I wasn’t entirely comfortable in the car. But we made improvements to the car at every [pit] stop, and by the end were strong. My Abeam car was phenomenal, and the Honda power was exceptional, again.  Big congrats to Ganassi and [Scott] Dixon. Fantastic win for them.»

Allen Miller (Race Team Principal, Honda Performance Development) on Saturday’s Honda win at WWT Raceway, Honda’s 6th win in 8 races this season: «Today’s final 50 laps looked like a continuation of last weekend’s Indianapolis 500, with Scott [Dixon] and Takuma [Sato] once more fighting for the victory.  Congratulations to Scott on his milestone 50th career Indy car victory, to Chip Ganassi Racing for their fifth win in eight races this season and to Takuma for a well-earned podium result following his win last week at Indy.  This has been an incredible season for Honda and everyone at Honda Performance Development should be proud of these achievements.»

MADISON, Ill., Aug. 28, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner and four-time series champion Dario Franchitti will return to the cockpit this weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway, as the former Indy car star takes the controls of Honda’s «Fastest Seat in Sports» two-seat Indy car prior to the start of Sunday’s NTT INDYCAR SERIES race on the 1.25-mile oval.

Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner and four-time series champion Dario Franchitti will return to the cockpit this weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway, as the former Indy car star takes the controls of Honda’s “Fastest Seat in Sports” two-seat Indy car prior to the start of Sunday’s NTT INDYCAR SERIES race on the 1.25-mile oval.

St. Louis native Kerry Robinson, former left fielder for the St. Louis Cardinals and now a scout for the organization, will ride in the custom-built, Honda-powered, two-seat Indy car piloted by Franchitti at the World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, located across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Missouri.

MARYSVILLE, Ohio, Aug. 28, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Acura celebrates the mass-production start of the all-new 2021 Acura TLX sport sedan today at Honda of America Mfg.’s Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio. The first Acura sedan created from the ground up following the brand’s return to Precision Crafted Performance, the 2021 TLX will arrive at dealerships September 28 with a manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) starting at $37,5001.

Acura celebrates the mass-production start of the all-new 2021 Acura TLX sport sedan today at Honda of America Mfg.’s Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio.

Designed, developed and manufactured by a team of Acura associates in Ohio and California, the 2021 TLX is built on an all-new, Acura-exclusive platform engineered for Type S levels of performance. The new TLX, as well as the TLX Type S high performance variant, will be built exclusively at the Marysville Auto Plant, and will be the quickest, best-handling and most well-appointed sport sedan in the brand’s 35-year history.

«We are incredibly proud to deliver Precision Crafted Performance for our Acura clients with a TLX that sets a new bar for performance and premium quality in an Acura sedan,» said Marysville Auto Plant General Manager Bill Easdale. «Our associates are dedicated to ensuring the highest level of quality with this new TLX, which comes on the heels of an incredibly successful Acura RDX sport-utility vehicle and the electrified NSX supercar, all made exclusively in Ohio

Manufacturing associates at the company’s state-of-the-art engine plant in Anna, Ohio, will build both powertrains for the new TLX. That includes a powerful 2.0-liter DOHC VTEC Turbo powering the standard TLX and an all-new 3.0-liter Turbo for the TLX Type S set to arrive next spring. Both engines are paired with an incredibly responsive 10-speed automatic transmission designed and developed in-house.

«On behalf of everyone who designed and developed this amazing 2021 Acura TLX, seeing the first vehicle roll off the assembly line is a dream come true,» said Marc Ernst, TLX global development leader. «This TLX epitomizes Acura’s focus on performance and premium quality, and the passion of both our development and manufacturing teams here in Ohio are embodied in the product that we’re delivering to our Acura customers.»

The experienced production team at the Marysville Auto Plant implemented sophisticated manufacturing technologies to assure superior build quality and premium refinement for the 2021 TLX. Using a high-accuracy body weld process and high-performance adhesive, the team created the most rigid body ever for an Acura sedan, to help TLX deliver on its dynamic performance intentions. The 2021 TLX is also the first Acura model to feature a laser brazed roof. This new process joins the roof to the body side panels, creating a clean, seamless exterior appearance with no need for a garnish over the rain channels.

PLANO, Texas, Aug. 26, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The next time you service your Toyota or Lexus vehicle at one of the brands’ nearly 1,500 dealerships across the U.S., it is likely that a certified technician from Toyota Motor North America’s (TMNA) T-TEN program (Technician Training & Education Network) serviced your vehicle.

WE’RE LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD TECHS. TOYOTA’S CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN PROGRAM EXPANDS NATIONWIDE

With 36 current locations in the U.S., the T-TEN program partners with schools and organizations to offer students an opportunity to earn degrees and certificates that comply with the highest training standards in the automotive industry, including an associate’s degree, National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications, and Toyota and Lexus technician training certifications.

In September, the T-TEN program will formally launch its Technical Education College Support Elite (TECS) program, and will expand its reach to eight new locations across the country – 44 total – to help fill the pipeline for well-trained, certified technicians with hands-on automotive diagnosis and repair education. TECS designates Advanced Automotive Technology (AAT) programs at certain locations as certified training centers for Toyota and Lexus vehicles.  These eight new locations are:

  • Andrada Polytechnic High School, Tucson, Ariz.
  • Cherry Creek Innovation Center, Centennial, Colo.
  • Collin College Technical Campus, Allen, Texas
  • Contra Costa College, San Ramon, Calif
  • Fresno City College, Fresno, Calif.
  • Hartnell College, Salinas, Calif.
  • Lincoln College of Technology, Columbia, Md.
  • Vehicles for Change, Baltimore, Md.

«Trained auto technicians are in great demand and are the key to any successful dealership,» said Joseph Myers, technician development manager for the T-TEN program at TMNA. «We are grateful for the opportunity to expand the program’s reach to eight new schools and organizations that not only fulfills our needs, but also provides stable jobs and career security that aims to give vehicle owners the most satisfying service experience possible.»

T-TEN technician training is available with different programs, degrees and certificate options, and the typical program length is two years. Once participants complete the program, they have the ability to apply for open service technician positions at Toyota or Lexus dealerships, or any automotive service operation, including independent service and repair shops.

Since its inception in 1986, the T-TEN program has graduated nearly 12,000 students. Through its Military Technician Education Network (M-TEN) in partnership with Hiring Our Heroes and the Department of Labor, active duty service members and veterans can participate in an intensive 12-week automotive technician training program and earn credits towards becoming a certified technician.

The 2021 CX-5 will continue to exceed expectations with its largest-ever infotainment display, new i-Activsense safety features and a new stylish Carbon Edition. These enhancements complement the CX-5’s sophisticated design and available turbo engine to help further encourage owners to seek inspiring adventures. Mazda North American Operations today announces the 2021 Mazda CX-5 will arrive in dealerships next month.

2021 MAZDA CX-5: MORE TO DISCOVER

Many premium features come standard on the 2021 CX-5 Sport. Most notably the new 10.25-inch large center display with the latest Mazda Connect infotainment interface has standard Apple CarPlayTM and Android AutoTM capabilities. It also adds a three-year trial of Mazda Connected Services capability, providing the ability to monitor and control the state of the CX-5 remotely by logging into the MyMazda app and in-car Wi-Fi hotspot[2] with three-months or 2GB trial, whichever comes first. Matching this intuitive technology is a responsive driving experience with the naturally aspirated four-cylinder Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter engine, able to deliver 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque on either regular (87 octane) or premium (93 octane) fuel and is equipped with a quick-shifting, six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift and sport modes. While G-Vectoring Control and front-wheel drive are standard, Mazda’s i-Activ all-wheel drive with off-road traction assist is available on all trim levels. For peace of mind, the CX-5 comes standard with the brand’s suite of i-Activsense safety features including Mazda Radar Cruise Control with stop and go function, Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection, Smart Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist and Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Other standard features include, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, High Beam Control, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio pairing, two front USB inputs, push button start, electronic parking brake, remote keyless entry, rearview camera, cloth seats, automatic on/off LED headlights, 17-inch gray metallic aluminum alloy wheels, rear roof spoiler and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

CX-5 Touring adds subtle refinements by way of heated driver and front passenger seats, leatherette seats with Lux Suede inserts and dual-zone automatic climate control. Occupants in the rear can enjoy the additions of air conditioning vents, center armrest and two USB charging ports. Other upgrades include Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry, rear privacy glass, six-speaker sound system and auto-leveling function added to the LED headlights.

The all-new available Touring Preferred SV Package will elevate the features on the CX-5 Touring. This package upgrades to the Bose® 10-speaker audio, leather seats, power liftgate, power moonroof, auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink, six-way power passenger seat and eight-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support and memory positioning.

Another all-new addition to the 2021 CX-5 lineup is the Carbon Edition. Sharing similar features to the CX-5 Touring with Touring Preferred SV Package, the Carbon Edition offers exclusive styling with Polymetal Gray exterior paint, gloss black door mirrors and 19-inch black metallic aluminum alloy wheels. The interior has red leather seats and black honeycomb interior trimming on the dash and door panels. The leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob add red stitching to help bring the color scheme together. This unique model is offered with two powertrain options. The naturally aspirated Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter engine is standard, while the CX-5 Carbon Edition Turbo is available with the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine that delivers 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque on premium (93 octane) fuel or 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque on regular (87 octane) fuel. The CX-5 Carbon Edition Turbo will also feature a new badge to help identify the powertrain.

The CX-5 Grand Touring moves up from the Touring trim level with updates inside and out. Interior enhancements include a Bose® 10-speaker audio system, leather seats, power moonroof, paddle shifters on the steering wheel, seven-inch TFT reconfigurable digital gauge display, auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink and SiriusXM® satellite radio with three-month trial subscription. The exterior adds a power liftgate, LED taillights, fog and daytime running lights, Adaptive Front-lighting System, dual heated door mirrors and 19-inch brilliant silver aluminum alloy wheels. The CX-5 Grand Touring is only equipped with the naturally aspirated Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter engine.

Stepping into a new class, CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve is equipped with the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine with new turbo badge and i-Activ all-wheel drive as standard. The driver’s experience is enriched with the windshield-projected Active Driving Display. Traffic Sign Recognition is available with the optional Mazda Navigation System accessory installed. Other exceptional upgrades include ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, automatic folding door mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer.

The top-tier CX-5 Signature offers the most in terms of advanced technology and sophisticated design. New i-Activsense safety features Smart City Brake Support Reverse and Driver Attention Alert join the 360° View Monitor with front and rear parking sensors now updated with high-definition digital clarity. Equipped with Mazda Navigation System, CX-5 Signature includes Traffic Sign Recognition. SiriusXM® three-year traffic and travel link subscription is also provided. Modern styling is emphasized with Caturra Brown Nappa leather seats, genuine layered wood trimming, frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink, ambient LED interior lighting, 19-inch dark silver aluminum alloy wheels, black headliner and Signature trim badge.

Sato Wins as Honda Dominates the Indianapolis 500

SPEEDWAY, Indiana, Aug. 23, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Takuma Sato passed a previously dominant Scott Dixon with just 15 laps remaining in today’s Indianapolis 500, and went on to score his second win at the famed «Brickyard» in a race dominated by Honda teams and drivers.

Takuma Sato (center) led a Honda sweep of the top four finishing positions at today's Indianapolis 500. Scott Dixon (#9, top) finished second, followed by Graham Rahal (#15) and Santino Ferrucci.

Although he led only twice for a total of 27 laps, Sato’s Rahal Letterman Lanigan Honda was fast when it counted, in the run from the last round of pit stops to the checkered flag.  Exiting the pits in second to Dixon, Sato swept into the lead on lap 185, then held off several attempts by Dixon to repass as the pair worked their way through lapped traffic.  The race was decided on Lap 196 of the scheduled 200, when Spencer Pigot crashed hard exiting Turn 4, leading the race to end under the caution flag.  The win is the second at Indy for Sato, following his initial «500» triumph in 2017.

Prior to the final pit stops, Dixon had dominated the day in his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, leading a race-high 111 laps as the championship leader sought his own second Indy victory.  Starting in the middle of the front row in the 33-car field, Dixon took the lead at the Green Flag and went on to control much of the 200-lap contest, especially after Alexander Rossi, in a strong running Andretti Autosport Honda, crashed out of the race on Lap 143.  Prior to his contact with the wall, Rossi led four times for a total of 17 laps as he and Dixon edged away from the field in the middle portion of the race.

But both Rahal Letterman Lanigan Hondas came on strong in the closing laps, with Sato’s teammate Graham Rahal closing the gap to the lead pair in the final laps to finish third.  After a disappointing qualifying effort, Santino Ferrucci conducted an exciting late-race effort of his own, finishing fourth to complete a Honda 1-2-3-4 sweep at the finish.

Honda drivers claimed eight of the top-10 finishing positions, with James Hinchcliffe recovering from a clutch problem encountered in his second pit stop to finish seventh, with his Andretti Autosport teammate Colton Herta eighth.  Jack Harvey had his best Indy finish to date with a ninth-place result for Meyer Shank Racing; while Ryan Hunter-Reay rounded out the top 10 in his Andretti Autosport Honda.

The string of five consecutive NTT INDYCAR SERIES oval races continues next weekend as drivers and teams head 150 miles southwest to WorldWide Technolgy Raceway near St. Louis, Missouri for a pair of 200-lap races Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30.

Quotes
Takuma Sato (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda) Started 3rd, finished 1st; second Indy 500 win; 13th victory for Honda at Indianapolis: «I think we had the best car. Only we were a lap short from Dixie [Scott Dixon] in terms of the fuel strategy, and [making fuel mileage to the finish] was a little tight. I couldn’t use max power to switch back and forth. And Dixon kept coming through Turn 4 [on the final green flag lap] and I was just able to hold him off. This is unbelievable. Everyone did a hell of a job. HPD and Honda gave us a lot of power and a lot of fuel mileage.»

Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) Started 2nd, finished 2nd; led race-high 111 laps; increased his mid-season championship points lead to 84 over Josef Newgarden [335-251]: «This is a hard one to swallow. On fuel mileage, I really can’t see how [Takuma] Sato was going to make it [prior to the caution that ended the race]. We pitted a lap later, and the [fuel mileage] numbers they had to get, it was going to be very difficult. I thought they were going to throw a red flag [following a late-race crash by Spencer Pigot], which would have been interesting for the last four or five laps. Huge congrats to Takuma. He drove his pants off today. Rahal Letterman Lanigan, they were super fast, obviously finishing first and third. It was good day for Honda. I want to give a massive thank you to them. We’re very proud to be powered by HPD and Honda, and it’s nice to get some [championship] points. But it’s hard when the win slips away like that.»

Santino Ferrucci (Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan Honda) Started 19th, finished 4th«It was just an incredible race. The SealMaster Honda was insane today. The guys worked really hard on pit lane, on the timing stand and the strategy was perfect.  I’m just really happy, after two incredibly long weeks of focusing on the car, we ended really good. During the first pit stop I got caught in neutral, and it was like a blessing in disguise. It set us way back, but the momentum we had just carried us. On the next restart [after a caution flag] we went from 25th right back into the top-10. It was where we needed to be and we just fought our way from there into the top-four.»

Ted Klaus (President, Honda Performance Development) on today’s Indianapolis 500: «This was a very satisfying win.  On behalf of every HPD team member and everyone back at HPD in Santa Clarita – who have all been pushing hard since last year’s race – thank you!  Congratulations to Takuma Sato, Graham Rahal and the entire Rahal Letterman Lanigan team for their one-three finish today; to Scott Dixon and Chip Ganassi Racing for his dominant run to lead 111 laps and second-place result; and to all of our partner teams and their great drivers.  Together we led all but 22 laps of today’s race, and scored an incredible 13th ‘500’ win for Honda.»
