BRONX, New York, July 9, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Every six hours, a person dies from a drug overdose in New York City, with more deaths in the Bronx than any other borough. COVID-19 has made the overdose epidemic even more dangerous because many people feel isolated and uncomfortable going to hospitals to get care.

To ensure people get the substance use disorder treatment they need, Montefiore Health System and Albert Einstein College of Medicine have been awarded a $4 million grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to train physicians in addiction medicine and strengthen relationships with community partners. The Montefiore-Einstein Addiction Medicine Fellowship, started in 2019, continues to expand our commitment to advancing substance use disorder treatment in the Bronx community.

«We are proud of our long-established programs, but now more than ever, we need to increase the number of physicians equipped to treat those with substance use disorders and our presence in community-based settings,» said Shadi Nahvi, M.D., M.S., director, Addiction Medicine Fellowship program at Montefiore and Einstein, and associate professor of medicine and of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Einstein.

The five-year HHS grant will fund an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-addiction medicine fellowship program to train new doctors on a team approach which includes nurses, counselors, social workers, nursing homes, pharmacists and community-based organizations so treatment can start as early as possible, regardless of where people are seeking help.

Training will occur at clinical settings like the Montefiore Einstein Division of Substance Abuse and the Montefiore Buprenorphine Treatment Network, which for decades been a leader in using medication to support treatment of opioid and alcohol abuse disorders and providing primary care.

The fellows will then complete their training at organizations like New York Harm Reduction Educators, which provides safe syringes and engages people who use drugs. Additionally, the fellows will partner with community groups, including BronxWorks, the Harm Reduction Coalition, the Osborne Association, the Drug Policy Alliance, and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to improve care.

By having clinicians in community locations that provide critical services like food and shelter, Montefiore doctors can prescribe buprenorphine to prevent withdrawal and block the pleasurable effects of using opioids and be primary care doctors when needed, treating conditions such as HIV and Hepatitis C.

«Our hope is that by partnering closely with our community, our addiction medicine fellows can become change agents – and rethink how to deliver the best care possible during this pandemic and well into the future,» said Dr. Nahvi.

The 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition stormed to a new front-wheel drive track record at Suzuka Circuit, Honda’s Formula 1 racetrack in Japan, with a time of 2 minutes 23.993 seconds. Originally built as a test facility for Honda, the 3.6-mile Suzuka track’s figure-8 configuration today is known worldwide as a highlight of the Formula 1 season as a driver and fan favorite.

Piloted by Super GT Series racer Takuya Izawa, the Type R Limited Edition achieved its record-breaking lap during final performance evaluations in February using a development car built to final European production specifications, with no modifications or performance enhancements. Video capturing the record breaking lap through in-car footage is available here, with a separate video of the development crew working on the Type R at the track here.

«The Type R Limited Edition reflects Honda’s dedication to refining the essence and driving pleasure of Type R as a sports car and exceeding the expectations of our customers,» said Civic Type R Project Leader Hideki Kakinuma. «The engineering team and I embraced a racing spirit that has been passed down for generations, and it’s this strong passion that’s driving the evolution of the Civic Type R towards becoming the ideal sports car. Now the «advanced» Type R that I envisioned at the beginning of this development is a reality and I am overwhelmed by the result and how our efforts have been rewarded.»

The 2021 Type R Limited Edition for the U.S. market is the ultimate street-legal, track-focused variant of Honda’s legendary Civic Type R, with significant measures taken to reduce weight and improve handling performance. Just 600 will be available when it launches in the U.S. later this year, exclusively painted in new Phoenix Yellow Pearl with contrasting gloss black accents on the roof and mirrors, and a dark chrome Civic badge. Inside, each Type R Limited Edition will feature an individually numbered serial plate denoting the vehicle’s original country of sale. The U.S.-spec Type R Limited Edition differs from the European version by retaining air conditioning, Honda Sensing®, and the Display Audio system.

2021 Civic Type R Limited Edition mechanical upgrades from the standard Type R for the U.S. market include: Lightweight, forged aluminum wheels from acclaimed manufacturer BBS (18 lbs. unsprung weight reduction); Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for improved traction and handling grip; dampers optimized for the new wheel/tire package; recalibrated steering for finer control and feedback; and further weight reduction of 28.2 lbs. through measures such as strategic reduction of sound-deadening materials.

In addition to its unique touches, the Type R Limited Edition shares most of the updates that debuted on the 2020 Civic Type R, including freshened front and rear exterior styling, a larger grille and revised radiator design for improved engine cooling, an Alcantara™-wrapped steering wheel, and a new shifter with a restyled knob, plus the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies.

Under the hood, the Type R Limited Edition draws power from the same race-bred 2.0-liter VTEC® Turbo engine, putting out a peak 306-horsepower (SAE net) and 295 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net), with power delivered to the front wheels through a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential.

The substantial power and torque is effectively managed by Type R’s dual axis strut front suspension system which virtually eliminates torque steer while allowing geometry optimized for maximum cornering performance.

SAN FRANCISCO, July 9, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — MasterClass, the streaming platform that makes it possible for anyone to learn from the best, today announced that Emmy and Grammy nominated Queen of Percussion, Sheila E. will teach its first class on drumming and percussion.  Through a series of dynamic lessons, Sheila E. will help members find their rhythm, explore the fundamentals of percussion and drumming and share intimate stories and career advice for aspiring musicians. The class is now available at MasterClass.com, and members can subscribe for unlimited access to all new and existing 85+ classes through the All-Access Pass. MasterClass categories include business, culinary arts, film & television, music & entertainment, photography, sports and more.

«Sheila E. is a musical pioneer,» said David Rogier, co-founder and CEO of MasterClass. «Her MasterClass is a rare opportunity for members to learn drumming and percussion from a legend—and you don’t even need a drum set to get started. Sheila E. is nothing short of inspiring and magical.»

Sheila Escovedo, best known to music fans as Sheila E., first picked up drumsticks and started making music at the age of three. Inspired by her percussionist father, she delivered her first solo performance to a live audience only two years later and has since established herself as one of the most talented percussionists in the world. By the age of 20, Sheila E. was already a top session and touring musician, performing with some of the industry’s biggest names such as Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, and Stevie Nicks. In the 1980s, her undeniable talent and hits like «The Glamorous Life» and «A Love Bizarre» led to her international fame. Sheila E.’s producing, arranging and performance talents have been showcased in the music industry through numerous Grammy nominations and performances with the likes of Beyoncé, Hans Zimmer, Jennifer Lopez and Pharrell Williams. Away from the spotlight, she co-founded the Elevate Hope Foundation, which helps young people heal from trauma or neglect through music and art. Sheila E. continues to produce and perform music across the globe and her most recent album, Iconic: Message 4 America, pays tribute to songs that have defined movements fighting for justice and peace.

«I am honored to be the first-ever drummer for MasterClass,» said Sheila E. «When you know what your passion is and what your purpose is, no one and nothing can stand in your way. In my MasterClass, I will share my passion and teach members the fundamentals of percussion, drumming and hopefully, inspire them to make their own music.»

Sheila E.’s MasterClass will take members on a musical journey through her dynamic world of rhythm, percussion, and drumming. Rooted in the belief that anyone can learn to drum, she will demonstrate how to find rhythm by moving, clapping, and using household items like pots and pans. Not only will Sheila E. bring the foundational techniques of drumming to life, but she’ll also teach you how to play some of her most beloved instruments, including the congas and timbales, with help from her father, renowned percussionist Pete Escovedo, and her brothers, Peter Michael and Juan. Sheila E. will share intimate stories and insight from her experiences capturing the spotlight on stage alongside some of the world’s greatest talents, to rising to fame as a solo artist and becoming one of the world’s most famous Latin percussionists. Members will begin by learning the principles of rhythm and basic rudiments on the American drum set, in addition to music theory. The class will also cover intermediate concepts, such as leading a band, training tips, performance techniques and career advice. MasterClass members at all experience levels will master basic drumming techniques and develop a language for drumming that will inspire them to make music and play with others.

Frost & Sullivan Reveals Global Powertrain Key Technologies and Trends by Region

Though electric and hybrid vehicles have gained traction in developed nations, they have yet to do so in niche markets like India, Eastern Europe, and Asia-Pacific

SANTA CLARA, California, July 9, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Frost & Sullivan’s recent analysis, Global Powertrain Outlook, 2020, finds that global automotive sales are expected to decline by more than 14.2% due to COVID-19 by the end of 2020 as manufacturing facilities and supply chains are affected by worldwide lockdowns. However, this slowdown is not expected to have an impact on consumer purchase trends. Demand for diesel engines is expected to decline in Europe by 30% by the end of 2020 as Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLPT) commences, while global electric vehicle (EV) sales are forecast to increase by about 3.4%, spurring demand for gasoline-hybrid and fully-electric powertrains.

For further information on this analysis, please visit: http://frost.ly/456

«OEMs will focus on hybridizing existing internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles as full hybrids have proven to help comply with stricter regulations and have also enjoyed consumer success in recent times,» said Naga Karthik Voruganti, Research Analyst, Automotive & Transportation at Frost & Sullivan. «Engine downsizing will continue, while the highly efficient gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines will continue seeing an increase in adoption. The integration of gasoline particulate filters (GPFs) and three-way catalytic converters (3WCs) is expected to increase substantially in 2020 with more OEMs seeking to get their gasoline-powered vehicles certified under the new WLTP regulations.»

Voruganti also said mild-hybrid powertrains and the standardization of exhaust after-treatment technologies, such as selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and coated GPF, are major technology trends that could impact the powertrain industry in 2020.

The growth opportunities in the key regional markets will vary considerably. The main trends and growth opportunities in each key region are presented below:

  • The United States: The US is expected to register about 1.13 million electric and hybrid vehicle sales in 2020, an increase of about 4.7%, with a majority of the growth coming from Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and mild and full hybrids.
  • Europe: European Electric Vehicles of all types (xEV) sales are expected to grow by 5.3%, assuming a moderate COVID-19 impact, and EVs alone will have a positive growth of about 27.5%.
  • LATAM: EV sales increased in all LATAM countries, driven by hybrid models, thus EVs and hybrids are expected to hold a 1.2% market share in 2020.
  • China: Vehicle sales are projected to decrease in 2020 due to the unpredictable impact of COVID-19, but EV share is expected to increase from 4.9% of the sales in 2019 to 5.6% in 2020.
  • India: Hybrid vehicle sales increased by 75% from 2018, which poses opportunities for OEMs to explore the market. Diesel vehicles will witness an increase in prices compared to gasoline due to the stringent norms of Bharath Stage – 6 (BS-VI).
  • South Korea: Despite a decline of 1.6% in recorded sales nation-wide and the end of the temporary tax cut in August, the Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) 48V segment enjoyed 283% growth, as sales quadrupled in 2019.
  • Indonesia: Car sales improved toward the end of 2019, but due to the sudden and massive impact of COVID-19 on the global supply chain, overall sales are expected to decline by about 17.3% in 2020.
  • Japan: Although the sales of new passenger cars in the country in 2019 declined by 2.1% from 2018, Japanese brands’ sales have increased by 1.9%; sales of foreign brands declined by 3.3%. Vehicle sharing and the fading appeal of cars among the younger population are trends expected to affect the domestic market in 2020.
