Scott Dixon, Takuma Sato Score Another Honda 1-2

MADISON, Ill., Aug. 29, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ Scott Dixon vaulted into the lead following the final round of pit stops in today’s opening round in the doubleheader Bommarito Auto Group 500 race weekend, then held off a charging Takuma Sato to score Honda’s sixth NTT INDYCAR SERIES race victory of the season.

Scott Dixon won for the fourth time this year, and the sixth win for Honda in eight races, as he scored his 50th career victory today at World Wide Technology Raceway near St. Louis, Mo.

The win is Dixon’s fourth in eight races this season, and the 50^th of his career, leading all active drivers. Honda, with six wins in 2020, now leads the INDYCAR Manufacturers’ Championship by 101 points over rival Chevrolet (688-579); while Dixon opens up a 117-point lead in the Drivers’ Championship, with 386 points to 269 for the second-ranked Josef Newgarden.

Today’s 200-lap contest started on a rough note, with three Honda drivers – Alexander Rossi, Zach Veach and Marco Andretti – among those eliminated in a multi-car crash just moments after race start.

After starting third, Dixon kept the leaders in sight throughout the first two-thirds of the race on the 1.25-mile oval. Sato meanwhile, fell back to midfield in the early stages, but made improvements to the handling of his Rahal Letterman Lanigan Honda during each pit stop, and returned to contention for the win in the closing stages.

During the final round of pit stops on Lap 177, Dixon’s Chip Ganassi Racing team enabled him to leapfrog O’Ward for the lead, with Sato emerging in third. Sato then executed a thrilling outside pass of O’Ward for second on Lap 179 and began his chase of Dixon for the victory. At the checkers, Dixon held on for the win by the narrow margin of just 14 hundredths of a second.

Behind the lead trio at the finish, Colton Herta continued his run of consistent results this year, ending the day fourth, with Markus Ericsson making it four Honda drivers in the top five at the checkers.

NUEVA YORK, 28 August 2020 /PRNewswire Policy/ — La pandemia de COViD-19 provoca que más del 75% de los refugiados y solicitantes de asilos nicaragüenses pasen hambre y solo puedan comer una o dos veces al día, alertó este viernes la Agencia de la ONU para los Refugiados que teme que esta situación ocasione retornos en condiciones adversas.

Desde el inicio de la crisis sanitaria, el número de refugiados que come una sola vez al día o menos ha crecido hasta un 14% en comparación al 3% antes de la pandemia. Estos datos provienen de una evaluación humanitaria realizada por ACNUR en julio y agosto que busca ayudar a las autoridades costarricenses a atender las necesidades de los más de 81.000 nicaragüenses que buscaron protección internacional en el país.

Actualmente, la mayoría de ellos, un 63%, afirman comer dos veces al día y las comunidades de acogida de refugiados se encuentran en condiciones similares.

El esfuerzo humanitario de Costa Rica

Costa Rica hospeda a casi el 80% de todos los refugiados y solicitantes de asilo nicaragüenses que han huido de las violaciones de derechos humanos y la persecución, y está entre los diez países del mundo que recibieron un mayor número de solicitudes de asilo, más de 59.000.

A esta situación se le suma la imposición de los periodos de cuarentena relacionados con la COVID-19 que están afectando los medios de vida y causando inseguridad al gran número de personas desplazadas forzosamente que dependen de la economía informal en la región.

A finales de julio solo el 59% de las familias refugiadas afirmaron estar recibiendo flujos de ingresos constantes relacionados con el trabajo. Una cifra muy baja en relación con el 93% registrado en el periodo previo a la crisis.

Uno de los efectos de este escenario es que sean desalojados y se queden sin hogar como refleja una encuesta que indica que una quinta parte de los refugiados no saben dónde vivirán el próximo mes.

El hipotético regreso a Nicaragua

Esta falta de ingresos y de comida provoca que al menos un miembro del 21% de los refugiados y solicitantes de asilo nicaragüenses encuestados dijera que contempla regresar a Nicaragua a pesar de los riesgos que provocaron su huida del país centroamericano. Hasta la fecha se han retirado más de 3000 solicitudes de asilo en Costa Rica, principalmente de ciudadanos nicaragüenses.

La Agencia de la ONU para los Refugiados proporciona información para las personas que deseen regresar a su país de origen y también trabaja juntamente con gobiernos y socios humanitarios para garantizar que los solicitantes de asilo y los refugiados que no contemplan la opción de regresar reciban el apoyo y la asistencia que necesitan en los países de acogida.

ACNUR refuerza la protección para las personas vulnerables

Desde el inicio de la pandemia, el organismo de la ONU incrementó sus programas de ayuda en efectivo en toda América Central con el objetivo de ayudar a las personas desplazadas por la fuerza en condición de vulnerabilidad.

Solo en Costa Rica asistió a 1221 familias en riesgo y garantizó la cobertura sanitaria para 6000 solicitantes de asilo mediante su alianza con el Sistema de la Seguridad Social de la nación centroamericana.

Sin embargo, la falta de financiación obstaculiza la capacidad de abordar las necesidades humanitarias más urgentes. Las operaciones de la Agencia en Costa Rica para 2020 ascienden a 26,9 millones de dólares de los que solamente se han conseguido un 46% hasta la fecha.

En la Indianapolis 500 del fin de semana pasado, el pasajero invitado fue el propietario del equipo con motor Honda y antiguo campeón de coches de Indy, Michael Andretti, que fue pilotado por su padre, Mario, mientras que su hijo Marco lideró la salida de los 33 autos de carrera desde la pole.
