SANTA MONICA, Calif., Sept. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — After a months-long drought in new vehicle inventory and a spike in used car prices during the coronavirus pandemic, car shoppers can look forward to some relief in the new vehicle market this Labor Day weekend. According to the car shopping experts at Edmunds, more 2021 model year vehicles are making their way into dealerships as automakers ramp up production. Edmunds data shows that 4.6% — or approximately one out of every 20 vehicles sold — in August were 2021 models, compared to 1.8% — or about one out of every 50 vehicles sold — in July.

Since dealers will aim to start clearing out 2020 model year vehicles to make way for this newer inventory, Edmunds experts say car shoppers can expect slightly better discounts over the Labor Day weekend. Edmunds data shows that new vehicle prices have already begun to soften: The average discount on 2020 model year vehicles climbed to $3,111 in August compared to $2,968 in July and $2,845 in June.

«It’s been a tough summer for many reasons, but the good news is that things are starting to look up for new-car shoppers. Although these increases in inventory and discounts aren’t dramatic, they’re still solid indicators that the market is returning to a more normal state,» said Jessica Caldwell, Edmunds’ executive director of insights. «This Labor Day weekend won’t necessarily be a big doorbuster bargain event like previous years, but it still presents a good opportunity for car shoppers to take advantage of decent discounts and lower interest rates.»

Although new vehicle prices have dropped over the past few months, Edmunds data reveals that used vehicle prices continue to rise. The average list price for 2017 model year vehicles climbed to $24,287 in August, an increase of $721 compared to July and an increase of nearly $1,500 compared to June. Edmunds experts note that this unseasonal jump in used prices presents a unique opportunity for consumers with a trade-in who are looking to purchase a new car this holiday weekend because they could get up to thousands more for their vehicle. Edmunds analysts say that car shoppers should start their research process by getting an online offer for their vehicle now, and they caution that this increase in values might not last beyond the next month or so.

«This holiday weekend might be the best time to jump on buying a new car if you currently own a vehicle and want to take advantage of its greatly increased value,» said Ivan Drury, Edmunds’ senior manager of insights. «Come October and November, some of the lease extensions that consumers opted into at the start of the pandemic will expire, so more off-lease vehicles will be hitting the market. Bigger discounts on 2020 model year vehicles should create downward pressure on the used market, and depreciation for used vehicles typically accelerates during the fourth quarter, so used prices and values are likely going to drop.»

Three Forms of Power

The RC 300 is powered by a highly responsive 2.0-liter, twin-scroll turbocharged and intercooled in-line four-cylinder engine with direct injection. The surge of power in the 241-horsepower. RC 300 doesn’t let up thanks to the Lexus engineers who spent years researching, developing, and refining its turbocharger. Generating 258 lb-ft of torque from 1,650 to 4,400 rpm, the engine is paired to a rear-wheel drive system and an eight-speed Sport Direct-Shift automatic transmission, and is easy on fuel consumption, with a 30 miles-per-gallon highway preliminary estimate.

The RC 300 AWD pairs a six-speed automatic transmission with a 260-horsepower 3.5-liter V6. Featuring Variable Valve Timing with intelligence, the engine is designed to provide added torque at lower speeds and greater horsepower at higher speeds. These refinements combine to generate 236 lb-ft of torque from 2,000 to 4,800 rpm.

The RC 350 and RC 350 AWD’s 311-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 generates 280 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm and boasts direct and port fuel injection, not to mention, an awe-inspiring sound reminiscent of the LFA supercar. The all-wheel drive RC 350 features a six-speed automatic transmission, while the rear-wheel drive model is equipped with an eight-speed Sport Direct-Shift transmission. And in the rear-wheel drive F SPORT, an available Torsen limited-slip rear differential helps maximize drivers’ ability to power out of corners. The RC 350 can accelerate from 0 to 60 in an estimated 5.8 seconds (RWD) and 6.0 seconds (AWD).

Carnival Corporation’s Costa Cruises Brand to Restart Cruise Operations This Weekend

MIAMI, Sept. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Two cruise line brands from Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK), the world’s largest cruise company, have announced plans to resume sailing operations, with Italy-based Costa Cruises scheduled to restart sailing in Italy this Sunday, Sept. 6, followed by Germany-based AIDA Cruises scheduled to resume on Nov. 1.

The brands will begin in a gradual, phased-in manner with six initial ships and limited itineraries, becoming the first two of the company’s nine global cruise line brands to resume operations. The initial cruises will take place with adjusted passenger capacity and enhanced health protocols developed with government and health authorities to follow shoreside mitigation guidelines.

Costa Cruises is restarting sailing with two initial ships departing from Italian ports beginning Sept. 6. Costa Deliziosa will offer weekly cruises from Trieste on Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27, visiting five destinations in southern Italy, including Bari and Brindisi in Puglia, Corigliano-Rossano in Calabria, and Siracusa and Catania in Sicily. Costa Diadema will follow on Sept. 19 from Genoa, calling at Italian ports in the western Mediterranean, including Civitavecchia/Rome, Naples, Palermo, Cagliari and La Spezia. The one-week itineraries are being reserved exclusively for Italian guests.

AIDA Cruises will resume its cruise operations with two of its ships, sailing from the Canary Islands in November 2020, followed by an additional two ships departing from the western Mediterranean and United Arab Emirates beginning in December 2020. The first of the brand’s cruises is set to begin Nov. 1, with seven-day voyages to and departures from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, with AIDAmar, followed by sailings from Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife with AIDAperla on Nov. 7. In December, AIDA Cruises will resume sailing operations in the Western Mediterranean with AIDAstella departing on seven-day cruises from Palma, Mallorca, beginning Dec. 12. Additionally, AIDAprima will offer seven-day cruises from Dubai starting Dec. 11 and from Abu Dhabi beginning Dec. 15.

In working with global and national health authorities and medical experts, Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises have developed a comprehensive set of health and hygiene protocols to help facilitate a safe, healthy return to cruise vacations. Both brands are providing guests with detailed information about enhanced restart protocols, which will continue to be modeled after shoreside health and mitigation guidelines as defined by each brand’s respective county, and approved by the flag state, Italy. Protocols will be updated based on evolving scientific and medical knowledge related to mitigation strategies.

Costa Cruises has developed the Costa Safety Protocol for its fleet, including new operating procedures supported by independent scientific experts in public health and consistent with the health protocols defined by the Italian Government and European authorities. The comprehensive set of measures and procedures cover key areas such as crew health and safety, the booking process, guest activities, entertainment and dining, and medical care on board, as well as pre-boarding, embarking and disembarking operations, which will include testing for all guests prior to embarkation.
