LONDON, Oct. 13, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — eDreams ODIGEO, Europe’s largest online travel company (and eDreams parent company), has surveyed 10,000 respondents across its American and European markets to reveal sentiments about travelling since the appearance of COVID-19. Conducted between 16th and 25th September 2020 and including 2000 respondents from the USA, it exposes our changing priorities, resilience and actual travel habits over the summer and our hopes for the future of travel.

A quest for reassurance: flexibility is the real key for American travellers looking ahead, with 54%  looking for flights and accommodation with guaranteed refunds should the trip be cancelled due to Covid.  A further 53% state that they are waiting for a vaccine before booking a trip abroad.

Summer travel: overwhelmingly, Americans limited their horizons this summer.  40% did not travel at all, and 45% changed their travel plans in order to take local or domestic trips.  In this regard, American men made most alterations to their plans – 50% of them changing schedules compared to 39% of women. For those who did venture abroad, most felt most safe on the flight itself because of the mandatory use of face masks (32%). The findings are similar across all the countries surveyed, with fewer travellers choosing to venture abroad this summer and an overwhelming trend for making the most of our home countries – an overall average of 41%.

What next? eDreams’ survey gives the travel industry reason to hope, indicating that travellers across all the markets polled are beginning to plan their 2021 holidays, with more than half (51%) of all responses indicating that short, long and even extended trips are on the drawing board. In particular, 32% of American respondents are already planning long-haul holidays:  41% choosing the destination they like most, while being cautious during stays in popular places and 39% having an extra eye for hygiene conditions and relying on government and official advice when booking. Beach holidays will be in demand, with the majority of American respondents (32%) preferring the beach above all other types of destination.  Bookings themselves may be later than was traditional pre-COVID (28% express a preference to book last minute) and savings are important with 22% of consumers looking for bargains (26% of men compared to just 18% of women).

Methodology: the eDreams Post Covid Survey was conducted by OnePoll between 16-29 September 2020, across its key markets including the UK, USA, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. It was conducted between 16-25 September in the USA and between 16-29 September in all other markets, and with a group of 10,000 total respondents of which 2000 were from the USA. All respondents were adults who have been on a plane in the past two years.

Company issues update to its August 17 announcement

MIAMI, Oct. 13, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — As earlier disclosed, Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK) detected unauthorized third-party access to portions of the company’s information technology systems on August 15, 2020. Information Security at Carnival Corporation acted quickly to shut down the intrusion, restore operations and prevent further unauthorized access. The company also engaged a major cybersecurity firm to investigate the matter and notified law enforcement and appropriate regulators of the event.

While the investigation is ongoing, early indications are that in early August the unauthorized third party gained access to certain personal information relating to some guests, employees and crew for three of the corporation’s brands — Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line and Seabourn, as well as casino operations. Working with its cybersecurity consultants, the company took steps to recover its files and has evidence indicating a low likelihood of the data being misused.

The company is working as quickly as possible to identify the guests, employees, crew and other individuals whose personal information may have been impacted. The company expects to complete this process within the next 30 to 60 days and will then send notifications to potentially affected individuals whose current contact information is available to the company. Along with those individual notices, affected individuals will be offered complimentary credit monitoring, as appropriate.

Meanwhile, the company has posted website notices and established a dedicated call center to answer questions regarding the event. When the investigation is complete, callers may confirm whether or not their information was affected.

Additional information about the event is available at www.hollandamerica.com, www.carnival.com, www.seabourn.com, or www.oceanplayersclub.com. The call center is available toll-free in the U.S. at +1. 888.905.0687, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), Monday through Friday. Individuals outside the U.S. may email questions to cruisedataevent@cyberscout.com, as well as request that a call center representative respond back by phone.

As part of its ongoing operations, the company is continuing to review security and privacy policies and procedures and implementing changes when needed to enhance information security and privacy controls.

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 13, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — The Sunset Walk Residences has begun accepting reservations for its new Condo Hotel project located minutes from the Walt Disney World main gate. The mixed use resort opened in 2018 with the Margaritaville Hotel Orlando and Margaritaville Cottages. In 2019, Island H2O Live, the world’s most technologically advanced waterpark was added to the mix. An affiliation with a major hotel brand and a new name is expected to be rolled out sometime in October.

Condo Hotel Offering
The Residences will include Studio, One- and Two-Bedrooms from 538 square feet to 1,204 square feet starting in the low $200k’s, including furniture, during the pre-construction event. Since the Reservations will be issued sequentially, the first to secure their reservations will be among the first to select their condo enjoying a greater selection and lower pre-construction pricing. All reservation holders will make their selection, in person or virtually, at the Priority Selection Event on November 22, 2020.

Whether someone is interested in a vacation home, an investment or both, a pre-construction launch is a smart entry point. According to Joel Lazar, Executive Director of Sales, «If you’re patient, you can reap the benefits. Typically the marketing of priority launch projects is way ahead of development, so renderings, floorplans, design details, pricing, amenities and condo documents are not readily available early in the marketing ramp up. But if you secure your reservation early you benefit by selecting your condo early for a greater selection and better pricing».

Encore Portfolio
Encore Capital Management and its principals are known for developing and building high profile Florida projects like Independence, Miami Worldcenter, Paramount Miami Worldcenter, Encore Club at Reunion, Bear’s Den at Reunion, Island H2O Live waterpark and Mirada in addition to projects in Texas, Arizona and California.

ATLANTA, Oct. 13, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — IHG® (InterContinental Hotels Group), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, announced today the latest in international expansion for its avid™ hotels brand – the groundbreaking for the first Canadian property located in Vaughan, a suburb of Toronto. The property is owned by PI Cap and is part of a robust pipeline of new avid hotels currently under development across Canada. There are more than a dozen avid hotels now open and welcoming guests, including the first property in Mexico, and 90 properties under construction or with plans approved for construction across Canada, the United States and Mexico.

Expected to open by spring 2022, the new avid hotel in Vaughan will offer 119 rooms across six floors. Located in a high traffic, high visibility area, the hotel is just minutes from Toronto Pearson International Airport, convenient to many area shopping centers and restaurants, with easy access to neighboring Brampton, Etobicoke and Bolton. Vaughan has long been recognized as one of the fastest growing municipalities in Canada and is home to Canada’s Wonderland theme park which draws millions of visitors to the area each year.

Karen Gilbride, Vice President, avid hotels and Atwell Suites™, IHG, commented: «On behalf of IHG and our thousands of colleagues, I congratulate PI Cap on this milestone for the avid hotels brand in Canada. There are great things on the horizon as travelers continue to visit newly opened hotels and discover the avid hotels’ experience, which is all about the basics done exceptionally well and delivered at a fair price. We believe this mainstream brand will continue to resonate strongly with hotel owners due to the lower cost to build, efficient staffing model and overall operating economics in the current environment and for years to come.»

Sherjang Singh Rana, co-owner PI Cap, commented: «Bringing the avid hotels brand to the growing city of Vaughan is a tremendous achievement for our company.»

Sandeep Ahuja, co-owner PI Cap, commented: «While we have deep roots throughout Canada and are known and trusted for our expertise in personal and business insurance, this property marks our first venture into the hospitality industry, and we are excited to partner with IHG to introduce the avid brand to Canadian consumers. We look forward to welcoming our first guests at this new property soon.»

Launched in 2017, avid hotels is one of IHG’s newest brands in the midscale, mainstream category and has grown rapidly with more than 200 new hotel properties signed since launch. The brand is purpose-built and offers the type of hospitality its guests value most – the essentials that make a difference and experiences that feel just right, every time. Guests at avid hotels properties can expect a superior stay, including a great night’s sleep in a clean room, a grab-and-go, complimentary breakfast, and seamless technology.

IHG understands that cleanliness is top of mind for today’s traveler. The company’s longstanding commitment to rigorous cleaning procedures includes the IHG Way of Clean program developed with Ecolab and Diversey, both world leaders in hygiene and cleaning technologies. The program, launched in 2015, features deep cleaning with hospital-grade disinfectants as well as new COVID-19 protocols and best practices, developed with experts from the Cleveland Clinic. As a part of the IHG family of brands, avid hotels properties offer guests additional peace of mind with the IHG Clean Promise – guests can be reassured that their room will meet IHG’s high standards of cleanliness.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1973 and charged with protecting the American public from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from more than 15,000 types of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction. To report a dangerous product or a product-related injury, call the CPSC hotline at 1-800-638-2772, or visit http://www.saferproducts.gov. Further recall information is available at http://www.cpsc.gov. (PRNewsfoto/U.S. Consumer Product Safety Co)

DETROIT, Oct. 13, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Since 2011, Chevrolet has been a partner in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer movement, raising over $13.8 million to fund the future of groundbreaking breast cancer research, 24/7 support for cancer patients, and provide access to lifesaving screenings.

Chevrolet and participating dealers across the United States have supported more than 100 Making Strides events across the country through event sponsorships, team participation, and customer engagement.

While Making Strides events have gone virtual this year, Chevrolet will continue support the events at the national, regional and local level all month. Employees across the country are participating in local Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events by «walking where they are» and making donations.

On October 1, Chevrolet launched its monthlong #IDriveFor social media campaign, which encourages people to share whom they drive for using the hashtag. Chevrolet will contribute $5 for every social post (up to $220,000) on Twitter or Instagram using #IDriveFor.

Chevrolet is also showing its support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Making Strides by turning the towers of the Renaissance Center global headquarters in Detroit pink during October, displaying a pink fleet of vehicles and painting the sidewalks in front of the Renaissance Center pink.

«We are more grateful than ever for Chevrolet’s partnership, 10 years strong,» said Gary Reedy, chief executive officer of the American Cancer Society. «Cancer hasn’t stopped for COVID-19. Chevy’s continued commitment to Making Strides, ensures we can fund the future and continue the progress we have made in the fight against breast cancer through groundbreaking research, providing access to care and providing screenings for those who need it most.»

«Many things look different today than they did a year ago, but the commitment by ACS to continue the fight against breast cancer remains unwavering,» said Steve Majoros, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet Marketing. «Chevy is proud to continue our commitment to Making Strides with the rollout of the #IDriveFor campaign. We are excited to leverage technology to create a virtual community fueled by the shared mission of raising awareness of and financial support for breast cancer research.»

CHICAGO, Oct. 13, 2020 /PRNewswire/ – Today, Shift Transit, a leading mobility operations company and day-to-day operator of the Bike Chattanooga bikeshare program, announced it was spearheading a new member referral program for the Bike Chattanooga bikeshare program. The launch of this campaign coincides with record-breaking ridership and membership gains for the 8-year-old bikesharing service.

For the month of October, for each newly purchased Bike Chattanooga pass or membership on the PBSC/CycleFinder app, the pass holder will receive a unique code to refer a friend to try bikeshare with a free daily pass. A daily pass, valued at $8, gives riders unlimited 60-minute, station-to-station trips for a 24-hour period. The referral program is being launched at a time when bikesharing has become recognized as a great way to remain active and commute on one’s own terms in the midst of COVID-19, while also being able to maintain social distancing.

Since March, the Bike Chattanooga program has remained open, accessible, and safe for all to use. The service has distributed more than 200 free annual memberships to frontline workers, while seeing a 62% usage increase in stations adjacent to medial facilities between April – September. In addition, between January – September, the service has broken a number of system records including:

  • 62% Y-o-Y increase in the number of subscriptions sold
  • 27% Y-o-Y increase in ridership
  • 27% Y-o-Y increase in miles travelled

«We are thrilled to see the record-breaking success of the Bike Chattanooga program in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic,» said Ben Taylor, Director of Transportation Operations for the City of Chattanooga. «It’s clear that Chattanooga residents and visitors have come to rely on the program as a vital transportation lifeline and we are grateful to be able to partner with Shift Transit to safely provide this service.»

A significant source of these gains has been the service’s 55 electric bikes. With e-bike sales surging across the country, Bike Chattanooga has also benefitted from the growing interest in electric transport. To date, the Bike Chattanooga e-bike fleet has seen a 97% increase in usage Y-o-Y, representing 36% of all system trips.

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 13, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — While ridesharing has become quite popular for both drivers and riders, there have been times when safety has been compromised. Concerned about that, an inventor from Birmingham, Ala., came up with an effective preventive measure.

He developed PROTECT-A-DRIVE to protect ride-sharing drivers against physical harm from passengers, reducing the chances of injury and death. As such, it provides a barrier between the front and back seats of a motor vehicle. Thus, it improves safety and security and affords peace of mind. Furthermore, its durable construction makes it effective for an extended period of time. In addition, it is convenient, effective and affordably priced.

The inventor’s work experience inspired the idea. «Working as a driver for a ridesharing business,» he said, «I was once attacked by a passenger and almost wrecked my car because I had no way to keep separated from my rider.»

The original design was submitted to the Birmingham sales office of InventHelp. It is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers.
