Following are reminders and special offers from Mopar:

1. Maintenance during infrequent vehicle use: 
For vehicles used infrequently during this time, customers should refer to vehicle-storage information in their owner’s manual. The following recommended practices will help maintain the health of a vehicle during infrequent use/long-term parking:

  • To help maintain battery life and keep the engine fluids in good operating condition, vehicles should be started at least once a week and idle in Park for 15-20 minutes with all accessories turned off. An even better practice is to drive the vehicle for 15-20 minutes once a week if possible
  • To help prevent flat spots on tires, drive the vehicle for 15-20 minutes at least once per week. If the vehicle cannot be driven, inflate the tires to 7.5 psi higher than the recommended pressure for longer periods of downtime
  • To reduce brake-rotor rust, drive the vehicle for 15-20 minutes at least once per week

2. Tires:  
Nothing is more important to the life of tire tread than proper inflation. Consistent tire-pressure checks keep tires performing at their best. See recommended pressures indicated on the driver’s-side door jam sticker. Inspect tires for uneven wear and tear in order to determine if a tire rotation is needed.

4. Battery:  
The summer heat can damage battery life and cause failure in the winter; fall is an ideal time to check a battery and replace it if necessary.

5. Brakes:

Scientists Outline The Hidden Risk Of Seasonal Changes On Our Pets' Health

 

Representando especialidades en parásitos, conducta animal y enfermedades, 21 líderes científicos europeos en sus campos compartieron perspectivas en torno a cuatro temas clave:  salud, parásitos, enfermedades y cambios de conducta de las mascotas. Los resultados confirman que los cambios estacionales tienen un amplio rango de implicaciones para las mascotas.

Uno de estos impactos en un aumento en los parásitos, principalmente garrapatas, ya que pueden sobrevivir más tiempo en climas más cálidos. El profesor Lukasz Adasek, de la University of Life Sciences en Lublin [Polonia] dijo: «Los cambios en las condiciones climáticas contribuyen al hecho de que las garrapatas, las distintas especies de garrapatas y las nuevas especies de garrapatas, aparecen en áreas donde previamente no se encontraban, y su actividad también ha aumentado».

Las mascotas son una parte vital de nuestras familias y por ello la campaña Protect Our Future Too cree que es el momento de actuar para asegurar su seguridad y protección. Para medir los actuales niveles de conocimiento en torno al tema, se ha realizado una encuesta a los propietarios de mascotas y veterinarios. Los principales hallazgos de los sondeos revelan que solo el 36% de los encuestados se sentían informados sobre los riesgos que las temperaturas más cálidas y la humedad suponen para las mascotas. 

Para ayudar a explicar está el profesor Richard Wall, profesor de Zoología en la Universidad de Bristol [Reino Unido]: «Dado que las pulgas y garrapatas son tan sensible a incluso pequeños cambios en la temperatura y humedad, los cambios en el clima y cambios en las estaciones tendrán grandes efectos en la abundancia y actividad de estos animales».

Dado que las garrapatas suponen una amenaza directa a la salud de nuestras mascotas, las temperaturas más cálidas suponen que es más importante que nunca protegerles de estos riesgos. Pero como el 59% de los dueños de mascotas encuestados se sienten desinformados de los riesgos que las garrapatas y otros parásitos pueden suponer, no es sorprendente que solo el 41% de los propietarios de mascotas encuestados protejan a sus mascotas frente a parásitos durante todo el año.
