PR Newswire

LONDON, 17 December 2020 /PRNewswire Policy/ —

People arriving from these countries from 4am Saturday 19 December will need to self-isolate.

People arriving into the UK from Uruguay, Namibia and the US Virgin Islands from 4am Saturday 19 December will need to self-isolate for 10 days as the countries are removed from the travel corridors list.

There has been a consistent increase in COVID-19 cases per 100,000 of the population in Namibia, Uruguay and the US Virgin Islands since late November, leading ministers to remove these from the current list of travel corridors.

In Namibia, new cases per week have increased by 334% over this time period. In Uruguay, new cases per week have increased by 295% over the same time period. In the US Virgin Islands, new cases per week have increased by 108% over the same time period.

At the same time, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice to advise against all but essential travel to Uruguay, Namibia and the US Virgin Islands. These changes reflect the latest assessments by Public Health England of the risk to travellers in each of these destinations.

Passengers arriving into the UK from countries not featured on the government’s travel corridor list are now able to opt-in and pay for a COVID-19 test from a private provider 5 days after they were last in a non-travel corridor location, with a negative test result releasing them from the need to self-isolate. With the Test to Release for International Travel scheme now live, several thousand tests have been sold so far across the 13 providers on the GOV.UK list, which is being updated regularly.

Ministers have agreed a two-week pause to the travel corridor review process, to provide certainty for passengers and industry around travel plans over the festive break. The move will ensure that those who are planning to travel over the Christmas period do not face last minute disruption unless absolutely necessary due to increasing infection rates. There are no planned removals or additions until 7 January when the regular process will resume.

However, the government has made consistently clear it will take decisive action to contain the virus, including removing countries from the travel corridors list rapidly if the public health risk of people returning from a particular country without self-isolating becomes too high.  This remains the case over the festive period, and we will continue to monitor the data on levels of imported infection and take urgent action if the data indicates the need to.

COVID-19 has profoundly changed the nature of international travel. Travellers should always check the latest advice from the FCDO over the festive break, given the potential for changing coronavirus infection rates to affect both the advice about travelling to other countries and rules about self-isolation on return.

All travellers, including those from exempt destinations, will still be required to show a complete passenger locator form on arrival into the UK unless they fall into a small group of exemptions.

Penalties for those breaching the self-isolation rules when returning from non-exempt countries are 1,000 pounds for first offence, rising to up to 10,000 pounds for subsequent offences, mirroring penalties for those breaching self-isolation following a positive COVID test or contact from Test and Trace.

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., Dec. 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The California Air Resource Board (CARB) enacted regulations on December 14 that are expected to significantly impact the supermarket and industrial refrigeration industry. These regulatory requirements on artificial refrigerants known as hydrofluorocarbons or HFCs are the most stringent implemented in the United States to date. Hillphoenix’s portfolio of environmentally friendly products are designed to enable businesses to become compliant with these types of new regulations.

The new rules specifically affect commercial and industrial, stationary refrigeration units in California like the ones found in grocery stores and other food retail establishments. The regulations apply to new refrigeration equipment and retrofits and take effect at the beginning of January 2022.

«This landmark decision by CARB will have a lasting impact on the industry and likely have far-reaching influence on regulatory decisions across the United States and beyond, as requirements similar to California’s could potentially become the adopted standards,» stated Scott Martin, Director of Research, Industry Relations and Development, Dover Food Retail and Hillphoenix. «Hillphoenix, in keeping with the sustainability focus of our parent company Dover, is committed to developing products that help our customers meet their sustainability goals, run their operations more efficiently and satisfy evolving regulatory and environmental standards. With our leading portfolio of natural refrigeration solutions, Hillphoenix is well positioned to provide innovative and environmentally friendly products and an efficient path to compliance for our customers.»

Hillphoenix has invested in a broad portfolio of sustainable technologies and refrigeration solutions to satisfy the customer demand driven by evolving regulatory requirements, such as the new regulations in California. Investments include the acquisition of Advansor DE in Europe, a leader in carbon dioxide (CO2) technology research and development in sustainable refrigeration systems.  Natural refrigeration solutions like CO2 have a lower global warming potential (GWP) than traditional artificial refrigerants. Hillphoenix recently opened a new facility dedicated to this business line that will be a springboard for CO2 leadership in Europe and North America. To date, Advansor has over 7,000 installations of CO2 systems in Europe.

«Advansor is a world leader in natural refrigeration technologies, and our technology uses CO2 in refrigeration to lessen the product’s contribution to global warming,» stated Kristian Breitenbauch, Managing Director, Advansor. «We are continuously innovating to improve environmental outcomes for our customers.»

U.S. manufacturing at Hillphoenix is focused on providing a wide variety of CO2 systems with North American installations exceeding 1,000 as many major retailers have committed to making the technology switch.

«Hillphoenix is a pioneer in designing environmentally sustainable refrigeration products for the industry,» said Martin. «With improvements in alternative refrigerants and energy efficiency, Hillphoenix has helped remove over 2.5 billion pounds of harmful emissions from customer operations in the last two decades and delivered thousands of natural refrigeration solutions to food retailers. We remain committed to supporting the reduction of harmful emissions to help our customers succeed in the marketplace and reduce their environmental burden.»

Enel X North America Sees Strong Growth Across Storage, Demand Response and EV Charging as More Organizations Shift Towards Decarbonization in 2020

BOSTON, Dec. 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Enel X, the Enel Group’s advanced energy services business line, today announced record growth and key milestones across the business in 2020, as commercial and industrial customers, utilities, cities and consumers embrace the increasing need to address the global climate crisis through the adoption of sustainable energy solutions.

«Throughout 2020, we’ve experienced constant effects of the climate crisis, from heat waves, hurricanes, wildfires and more, yet we’ve seen businesses, utilities, consumers and cities alike reaffirm their commitments to more sustainable energy solutions that support the local grid and the environment,» said Surya Panditi, Head of Enel X North America. «Across each area of the business, Enel X continues to deliver measurable economic and environmental value to customers. The growth we’ve experienced in 2020 demonstrates the increased role of flexible energy solutions and is a testament to the shared commitment of our customers and our team in leading the energy transition, we look forward to continuing this momentum into next year.»

Throughout the record-breaking demand response season, Enel X and its commercial and industrial customers delivered critical resources to the grid in more than 500 demand response events. Increasingly, Enel X demand response portfolios are comprised of multiple resource types, including traditional load curtailment from customers, alongside newer technologies like distributed energy storage and flexible EV charging infrastructure. During a heat wave in New York in July, Enel X dispatched its front-of-the-meter battery storage system in Brooklyn, delivering more than 188,000 kWh to the grid. In California in August, a heat wave combined with wildfires resulted in rolling blackouts, during which Enel X provided between 150 MW-200 MW of flexible load to the grid daily from both demand response customers and EV chargers, playing an important role in mitigating blackouts over a multi-day period. By participating in demand response programs, customers earn payments by reducing their energy load during periods of peak demand. This year, Enel X North America demand response customers earned more than $100 million by curtailing more than 500 GWh, while supporting the reliability of their local grids during dispatch events.

Storage
In 2020, Enel X more than doubled its portfolio of operational battery storage projects and signed new contracts totaling more than 54 MWh across the US and Canada, including a new microgrid project in Puerto Rico. The storage business also established a joint venture with Ardian Infrastructure, a global private investment house, to accelerate the development of battery storage in Ontario, where the company grew its portfolio by 65%. Enel X North America now has more than 160 MWh of battery storage projects across the US and Canada.

EV Smart Charging and Transit Electrification
The company launched a new line of electric vehicle smart charging solutions and grew its portfolio of utility smart charging partners to more than 40, with over 60,000 residential and commercial smart charging stations deployed across North America. JuiceNet, the smart EV charging software platform, that optimizes the energy consumption of Enel X’s charging stations to charge vehicles when electricity prices are lowest and availability of renewable energy is highest on the grid, manages a 70+ MW virtual battery in California.

Additionally, Enel X North America partnered with a number of Fortune 1000 companies for fleet electrification, including Vestas and Uber, which now offers drivers who use the Uber platform access to 100% clean driving through the launch of JuiceEco Green-e® certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). JuiceEco matches the consumption of any EV anywhere in the US with carbon-free electricity. Expanding upon its smart charging leadership, Enel X entered the public transit electrification market through a pair of grants from the MassCEC. The grants will support the future electrification of bus fleets from the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and Hopkinton Public School District in Massachusetts.

Demand Response and Energy Services
The company continued to grow its utility demand response portfolio, adding more than 200 MW through utility programs, including a program with Salt River Project in Arizona, launched earlier this year and signed contracts with businesses totaling more than 550 MW of dispatchable capacity. Enel X provides C&I demand response resources to more than 20 utilities across North America managing more than 600 MW of dispatchable demand response in utility programs alone in which Enel X is the exclusive provider to the utility.

In support of organizations’ energy advisory services, Enel X helped commercial, industrial, government and municipal customers identify around 8 million USD of energy cost savings globally through the company’s utility bill management platform, while also supporting customer’s energy procurement needs as more organizations sought to integrate renewables into their supply mix. In total, Enel X helped procure more than 500 MW of renewable energy for customers like the Western Pennsylvania Energy Consortium which transitioned to 100% renewable energy supply for its 30 members, and Enel X has another 1 GW of ongoing renewable energy solicitations.

Enel X is Enel’s global business line dedicated to the development of innovative products and digital solutions in sectors where energy is showing the greatest potential for transformation: cities, homes, industries and electric mobility. The company is a global leader in the advanced energy solution sector, with more than 6.3 GW of demand response capacity, 110 MW of installed storage capacity, more than 90,000 utility bills managed across 104 countries, and around 130,000 public and private EV charging stations available around the world.

In North America, Enel X has around 4,500 business customers, spanning more than 35,000 sites and representing approximately $10.5B in energy spend under management. Enel X North America has approximately 4.7 GW of demand response capacity, over 70 battery storage projects that are operational and under contract, and more than 60,000 smart EV charging stations. Enel X advises large energy users on energy procurement, sustainability, and risk management, and has completed 65,000 energy procurement events including 2,000 MW of long-term renewable energy contracts. The company’s intelligent DER Optimization Software is designed to analyze real-time energy and utility bill data, improve performance, and manage distributed energy assets across a number of different value streams and applications. The CDP evaluates major companies worldwide on their efforts to tackle climate change. Evaluations are based on information disclosed in response to questions sent to the companies regarding such topics as climate change and water security. This is Canon’s second time earning a spot on the A-list in the climate change category, having first made the list in 2016, and its first time in the water security category.

Under its Action for Green environmental vision, introduced in 2008, Canon aims to strike a beneficial balance between enriching lifestyles and protecting the Earth’s environment. Focusing on the key objectives of realizing «A low-carbon society,» «A circular resource society,» «Elimination of harmful materials» and «A society in harmony with nature,» Canon strives to integrate these efforts with business operations and apply them throughout the entirety of the product lifecycle.

Canon set a goal of annually reducing lifecycle CO2 emissions for each product by 3%. In 2019, the company has successfully achieved a total reduction of 40% and an average reduction of approximately 4.7% a year for the period between 2008 and 2019. In addition, the company achieves its water resource management objectives through such measures as maintaining a closed wastewater system at production sites. Furthermore, data on Canon’s greenhouse gas emission levels, energy usage and water usage are also verified by a third party. Based on these programs and ongoing efforts, Canon has received high praise and been awarded a spot on the CDP’s A-list for both of the above categories.

Canon’s Action for Green environmental vision aims to realize a society that promotes both enriched lifestyles and the global environment through technological innovation and improved management efficiency. Throughout the entire product lifecycle, Canon continues to expand activities with its customers and business partners to help reduce environmental burden in pursuit of this environmental vision.

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Global leading tire company Hankook Tire achieved an A- score by CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project) this year in the ‘Climate Change’ sector, underscoring the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability management.

CDP is an international non-profit organization that assesses companies’ environmental transparency and action on climate change, forests and water security disclosures. Along with the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the annual CDP report is deemed one of the most trusted indicators for environmental, social, and corporate governance. It scores companies from D- to A, with A and A- representing leadership level.

Hankook Tire received an A- in CDP’s 2020 scoring results, demonstrative of the company’s leadership in environmental sustainability. Only companies recognized with excellent performance in climate change response activities, environmental risk management and related information disclosure can attain the leadership level.

The achievement underlines Hankook’s commitment to its CSR goals, which include the use of 100% sustainable materials and a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 compared with 2018. The company also participates in sustainability initiatives with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and promotes CSR-related policies such as the Sustainable Natural Rubber Policy.

Furthermore, Hankook is incorporating environment-caring efforts not only in production process but also in R&D. For example, Hankook has minimized the rolling resistance of tires to improve fuel efficiency of vehicles and ultimately reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The company also takes the lead in activities such as calculating greenhouse gas mitigation amounts into monetary value and reflecting it in the investment process.

In addition to the recognition from the CDP, Hankook’s efforts in environmental sustainability resulted in several achievements this year. Hankook was not only named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices World for the fifth consecutive year, but was also awarded a platinum medal by EcoVadis, one of the highest recognitions for achievements in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility. This medal is only awarded to companies in the top 1% of their industry sector. The company has also won the gold award at the 2020 Galaxy Awards organized by MerComm Inc., the highest accomplishment, with its CSR report 2019-20.

«It is indisputable that climate change is one of the most critical and urgent issues that the world is facing right now,» says Sooil Lee, President of Hankook Tire America Corp. «As a responsible global corporate citizen, we will continue focusing on environmental disclosure and transparency as well as providing products that contribute to bringing a sustainable future closer.»
