NEW YORK, Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — It is the week before Christmas and it’s about time to solidify holiday travel plans. With coronavirus cases still surging across the country, things will be a bit different this year and it might be prudent to think about airport capacity.

For those making the choice to travel this month, flying out of an emptier airport may limit the risk of covid19 exposure and allow for a little peace of mind.

Key findings:

  • Passengers flying out of Myrtle Beach, S.C., last December departed from the emptiest airport. Nearly 52,700 flew out of Myrtle Beach International Airport in December 2019, compared with its monthly average that year of more than 106,700, meaning December travel out of the airport was 49.3% that of a typical month. Up next were Portland International Jetport in Maine and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Alaska.
  • 3 Florida airports — in warmer climates — were the fullest airports. Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, Southwest Florida International Airport (Fort Myers) and Palm Beach International Airport all saw December 2019 passenger traffic that was at least 17% higher than the average month that year.
  • The biggest airports tend to be a bit busier in December, so it may be difficult this month for many passengers to avoid the rush. Of the 10 busiest U.S. airports, only 3 saw less passenger volume in December 2019 than their monthly average: Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia, Denver International Airport in Colorado, and Las Vegas McCarran International Airport in Nevada.
  • One piece of good news for flyers worried about crowds this year: Transportation Security Administration data shows that the number of travelers in November 2020 was about one-third the level it was in November 2019. That trend has also continued during the first nine days of December 2020 compared with the same period in December 2019.

Top 5 Least Crowded Airports:

  1. Myrtle Beach International Airport – South Carolina
  2. Portland International Jetport – Maine
  3. Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport – Alaska
  4. Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport – Georgia
  5. Manchester-Boston Regional Airport – New Hampshire

March of Dimes and CDC Share Tips to Help Women Plan for a Healthy Pregnancy and Baby in the New Year

ARLINGTON, Va., Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — March of Dimes, the leading nonprofit fighting for the health of all moms and babies, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) are partnering to raise awareness of the actions women can take to have a healthy pregnancy and baby, just in time for National Birth Defects Prevention Month in January 2021. As we face the COVID-19 pandemic, pregnant women must take special care of themselves as they prepare for their baby. The New Year is the perfect time to learn about the actions you can take to be healthy before and during pregnancy – because what’s best for you is best for baby.

March of Dimes Foundation Logo

Understanding birth defects and their causes is an important step in preparing for a healthy pregnancy. Each year, birth defects affect about 1 in every 33 babies born in the U.S., according to CDC. Mainly developing in the first three months of pregnancy as a baby’s organs form, birth defects present as structural changes at birth that can affect one or more parts of the body (e.g. heart, brain, foot). An individual’s genetics, behaviors, and social and environmental factors can impact risk for birth defects. Even though all births defects can’t be prevented, there are things women can do to help have a healthy baby.

Higher rates of birth defects vary across racial and ethnic groups. Compared to White babies, American Indian/Alaskan Native babies have higher occurrences of ear defects, cleft lip, Trisomy 18 (chromosome abnormality), Encephalocele (defect of the skull and brain) and limb deficiency; Black babies have higher rates of Encephalocele and Trisomy 18; and Hispanic babies have higher rates of Anencephaly (defect of the skull and brain), Encephalocele and Anotia/Microtia (defect of the ear).

«Protecting yourself and making healthy choices is more important now than ever for women trying to become pregnant in the New Year, particularly during this global pandemic,» said Dr. Rahul Gupta, Chief Medical and Health Officer, Senior Vice President, Interim Chief Scientific Officer at March of Dimes. «While current research does not show a direct link from COVID-19 to birth defects, we know that fevers in early pregnancy may be linked to birth defects and pregnant women may have a higher risk of severe illness due to COVID-19. We still have a lot to learn about the virus and now is the time for women to take extra care of themselves as they plan for pregnancy.»

You can adopt behaviors to increase your chances of having a healthy, full-term pregnancy and baby. Here are six tips to follow:

  1. Protect yourself from COVID-19. Stay safe and help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a face mask and practicing social distancing. Remember to check for new guidance from the CDC to keep you and your family safe.
  2. Be sure to take 400 micrograms (mcg) of folic acid every day. Folic acid is a B vitamin proven to help prevent serious birth defects of the brain and spine. Before becoming pregnant and during pregnancy, take a multivitamin containing 400 mcg of folic acid every day to help prevent serious birth defects. Eat foods that contain folate (e.g. lentils, green leafy vegetables), as well as foods made from fortified grain products (e.g. bread, pasta) and those made from fortified corn masa flour (e.g. cornbread, corn tortillas).
  3. Get a pre-pregnancy checkup. See your health care provider to talk about managing your health conditions and creating a treatment plan before you are pregnant. Speak with them about all of the prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and supplements you are taking, especially before you stop or start any medication. Creating a treatment plan for your health condition before you are pregnant can help keep you and your developing baby healthy.
  4. Stay up-to-date on vaccines, including the flu shot. Speak with your health care provider about the vaccines you need during pregnancy to help protect yourself and your baby against serious diseases. Get the flu shot annually before or during pregnancy and get the whooping cough vaccine between 27 and 36 weeks of pregnancy. Also make sure everyone in your family is up-to-date on their vaccinations to help prevent the spread of diseases.
  5. Before you get pregnant, try to reach a healthy weight. Talk to your health care provider about how to get to a healthy weight before getting pregnant, as being overweight or underweight can affect your fertility and increase the risk of having a baby with a birth defect and other complications. Maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes eating healthy foods and regular physical activity.
  6. Avoid substances that are harmful during pregnancy.
    1. Smoking substances such as tobacco during pregnancy can cause dangerous chemicals to damage the placenta and/or reach the baby’s bloodstream. Smoking cigarettes can cause certain birth defects, like cleft lip and palate. If you need help to quit smoking, talk to your health care provider or contact Smokefree.gov (1-800-QUIT-NOW)
    2. Do not drink alcohol during pregnancy. If you are taking opioids, talk to your health care provider.
      1. There is no known safe amount of alcohol to have during pregnancy or when trying to get pregnant. Alcohol can cause problems for a developing baby throughout pregnancy, so it’s important to stop drinking alcohol when you start trying to get pregnant.
      2. Opioid use in pregnancy can cause serious problems for your baby, like preterm birth and drug withdrawal called neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). Women should consult their physician before stopping or changing any prescribed medication.
      3. If you or someone close to you needs help for a substance use disorder, talk to a healthcare provider or call SAMHSA’s National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357).

«In these challenging times, it is more important than ever to support each other, and empower women and their partners to make the best decisions for themselves and their families,» said Dr. Karen Remley, Director, CDC’s National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities. «CDC, March of Dimes, and our committed healthcare community invite you to connect with us in our efforts to reach those who are thinking of pregnancy in the New Year and offer accurate information on planning for a healthy pregnancy and the prevention of birth defects.»

The annual report reveals automotive-related cyber threat trends and analysis in light of recently drafted and adopted cybersecurity standards and regulations as well as the COVID-19 pandemic; the report also includes a one-of-a-kind analysis of automotive cyber threats identified throughout the deep and dark web.

HERZLIYA, Israel, Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Upstream Security, a leading provider of cloud-based automotive cybersecurity solutions, today released its 2021 Global Automotive Cybersecurity Report. The annual report shares in-depth insights and analysis derived by analyzing 633 publicly reported automotive cyber incidents spanning the last decade, highlighting vulnerabilities and threats identified during 2020.

For the first-time-ever, the annual report offers an in-depth mapping of all 2020 automotive cyber incidents to the threats listed in the UNECE WP.29 regulation as well as an analysis of the risk levels of specific incidents as required by the ISO/SAE 21434 regulation. The report also includes an inaugural segment focused on non-disclosed automotive-related cyber incidents discovered throughout the deep and dark web.

2020 has been a year of disruption in the automotive industry, both because of COVID-19 and the new automotive cybersecurity standards and regulations. The rising number of connected vehicles increases the entry points and vulnerabilities that hackers can leverage, and the ever-growing automotive cyber threat landscape continues to develop.

«With the continued rise of cyber attacks against the automotive industry and the regulatory requirements that were developed in response, now more than ever, automotive stakeholders must take heed of the cyber threat landscape,» said Oded Yarkoni, Upstream Security’s VP of Marketing. «Knowing and assessing automotive cyber threats both on the surface and on the deep and dark web is the first step in developing an effective cybersecurity management system and complying with the cybersecurity demands of both regulators and consumers.»

Upstream’s 2021 Global Automotive Cybersecurity Report introduces key findings of the Upstream AutoThreat Intelligence research team as well as cybersecurity recommendations for automotive stakeholders:

  • Connected vehicles are here to stay: The rising number of connected vehicles leads to increased vulnerabilities and entry points for hackers to leverage; more than 200 automotive cyber incidents were publicly reported in 2020 alone.
  • Most automotive cyber hacks were carried out by hackers with malicious intent: In 2020, 54.6% of hacks were carried out by black-hat hackers to disrupt business, steal property, and demand ransom. 39.1% of hacks were committed by white-hat hackers and researchers, including those as part of an automotive bug-bounty program.
  • There was a growth of servers targeted in 2020: The three most common attack vectors over the last decade were servers, keyless entry systems, and mobile apps, with a 73% growth in server attacks in 2020. All three top attack vectors are attacked remotely, and as seen in 2020, 77.8% of all incidents were remote attacks.
  • The number of automotive-related CVEs is growing: To date, there have been 110 CVEs (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) related to the automotive industry, 33 in 2020 compared to 24 in 2019.
  • Theft of data and vehicles were among the top impacts of cyber attacks in 2020: 36% of incidents in 2020 involved data and privacy breaches, and 28% of incidents involved thefts or break-ins.
  • Standards and regulations indicate an industry-wide recognition of cyber threats: When mapping cyber incidents from 2020 to threats indicated by the UNECE WP.29 regulation, 89.9% of incidents related to threats to vehicles regarding their communication channels and 86.7% related to threats to vehicle data/code, the top two threat categories.
  • While COVID-19 slowed down many automotive operations, cyber attacks were on the rise: OEMs and automotive suppliers were prime targets during the pandemic, with a cyber attack even shutting down a major OEM. The pandemic also led to factory closures, assembly-line shutdowns, supply chain interruptions, and even some OEMs pivoting their activities altogether.
  • The deep and dark web contains a noticeable amount of automotive-related hacks and threats: The most frequent and significant automotive hacks discussed on the deep and dark web include ECU tuning, infotainment hacking, selling stolen identities to access OEM and smart-mobility accounts, and leaking automotive source code or data.
  • Automotive cybersecurity has been recognized as vital: The automotive cybersecurity market is expected to grow over the next decade, with OEMs recognizing that security-by-design, automotive cyber threat intelligence, and a well-established VSOC (vehicle SOC) with an integrated cybersecurity solution is integral to the safety and security of their vehicles and assets.

Discover Puerto Rico Provides Gift Givers The Opportunity To Adopt A Coquí And Give Back To Nature This Holiday Season

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Discover Puerto Rico, the Island’s Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), in partnership with local environmental research and conservation organization, <a target="_blank"…

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Discover Puerto Rico, the Island’s Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), in partnership with local environmental research and conservation organization, Conservación ConCiencia, invites everyone to give the gift of nature and Adopt a Coquí this holiday season, supporting Puerto Rico’s vast natural resources. A symbol of Puerto Rico worldwide, the coquí is a species of frog endemic to the nature-rich Island, and heartfully named for the sound they make. Pent-up travelers staying safe at home during this time, but thinking about their first trip in 2021, can support global conservation while virtually learning and dreaming of a destination filled with natural wonders, and more.

By visiting DiscoverPuertoRico.com/coquí and making a donation of $25 USD, coquí gift recipients will receive a digital keepsake adoption certificate with their name on it for the contribution to supporting conservation, sustainability, and climate resilience efforts by Conservación ConCiencia.

«We’re inviting future travelers to be inspired by our natural offerings in a safe and responsible way as many are dreaming about their first trip when the time is right,» said Brad Dean, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico. «While Puerto Rico is ensuring the safety of residents and travelers alike and only recommending essential travel at this time, Adopt a Coquí gives the gift of hope during this holiday season, supporting conservation efforts in Puerto Rico and felt globally.»

Today’s traveler mindset has shifted, and as they look toward a safer time, many are leaning towards ways to be more mindful and create meaningful experiences. Besides spending time with loved ones, getting away from crowds and enjoying nature are highest priority among future travelers, according to a study by Destination Analysts.

Home to unique habitats like rainforests, pink salt flats, underground caves and more, Puerto Rico is the ideal place to connect with nature in 2021. And Adopt a Coquí supports the little frogs that impact the Island’s ecosystem, that although protected, are also at risk due to loss of habitat and climate change. A cultural symbol in Puerto Rico since the times of the original indigenous Taino inhabitants, the coquís’ home can be found primarily in el bosque, or forest, such like El Yunque National Rainforest, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. With 17 different species that inhabit Puerto Rico, when the sun goes down, male coquís begin singing their song that gives them their name (Co-Kee, Co-Kee) until dawn.

«Maintaining our natural habitats and ecosystems is imperative for both local and global impact,» said Raimundo Espinoza, Founder of Conservación ConCiencia. «By implementing effective, science-based conservation initiatives, we help save our local marine resources and wildlife, including protecting our naturally unique coquís here in Puerto Rico, while moving societies towards sustainability.»

For those looking for travel ideas and inspiration, and to learn more about the breadth of natural and outdoor adventure offerings in Puerto Rico, Discover Puerto Rico just launched Sounds like Puerto Rico, a five-episode series that explores the jargon and natural sounds that make up the Island’s unique culture. The first episode transports travelers to El Yunque National Rainforest and other episodes will educate people about Puerto Rico’s coffee culture, surfing, birdwatching and the history of reggaeton.

While the coquís serenade is best enjoyed in person, this holiday season, families can transport themselves virtually into the story of «From Boriquén to Bethlehem: A Coquí and the Three Wise Men,» which is a fun bilingual rhyming children’s book of a magical coquí who traveled with a young Puerto Rican girl and the Magi to the first Christmas. For families looking to keep the Three Kings tradition alive for present and future generation, they can purchase the book and support local small businesses by visiting https://bit.ly/34bf9qd.
