WASHINGTON, Jan. 28, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The following is a statement from Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa on two executive orders signed by President Biden that lower the cost and expand the availability of health care services for many hardworking Americans.

«While the Teamsters do an excellent job of ensuring that its members receive quality health insurance benefits through negotiated contracts, that unfortunately is not the case for some U.S. workers. Obamacare was a start to broaden the availability of health care, but the Trump administration chipped away at it. These new orders will begin to turn the tide back.

«Those lacking health insurance will get another chance in the coming weeks to sign up for it. Additionally, the Biden administration is directing federal agencies to re-examine policies that undermine health care affordability, the insurance marketplace and availability for people with pre-existing conditions.

«The U.S. is in the middle of a health crisis. Government must do more to ensure working Americans – especially essential workers – have the access they need. This is a start.»

President Biden’s Priority of Forcing Taxpayers into a Partnership with the Abortion Industry Won’t Bring Unity, says Family Research Council

WASHINGTON, Jan. 28, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Democratic President Joe Biden, among his first official acts, today rescinded the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance Policy (PLGHA), which prevents federal funds from going to foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that perform abortions or «actively promote» abortion as a method of family planning in other countries.

PLGHA, which establishes the principle that overseas abortions should not be funded with U.S. taxpayer dollars, has been embraced by every Republican president since President Ronald Reagan first adopted it in 1984 as the Mexico City Policy, and it has been repudiated by every Democratic president. President Donald Trump twice extended the policy beyond previous administrations, by expanding the scope of the policy to include all global health dollars and funds paid to subcontractors in the prohibition on abortion funding. The Trump policy ensured U.S. aid continued to flow to health care, humanitarian relief, and even family planning in the millions of dollars. It just did not subsidize the abortion industry overseas.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins criticized President Biden’s swift repeal of the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance Policy:

«President Biden is returning to the pro-abortion policies of Barack Obama and forcing taxpayers back into a partnership with the overseas abortion industry.

«The abortion industry is well known for relentlessly pursuing taxpayer dollars – and will exploit any opportunity to grab U.S. taxpayer money. With this action, President Biden is throwing aside any notion of uniting or ‘healing’ America’s political division and is demonstrating that ‘unity’ means conformity to the goals and priorities of the Left.

«Family Research Council and the pro-life movement will always affirm the universal ideal that all human beings have inherent worth and dignity, regardless of their age or nationality. We will continue fighting to create a culture of life in which every child is welcomed into this world and protected under our laws, both here and abroad,» concluded Perkins.

Mary Szoch, Director of the Center for Human Dignity at Family Research Council, added:

«Over 75% of Americans oppose taxpayer funding for abortions abroad. In repealing the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance Policy, President Joe Biden sided with the abortion industry over the American people. Though President Biden has promised to bring our nation together, his immediate attack on the most vulnerable among us, the unborn, will only cause further division. Abortion takes the life of an unborn child—executive action forcing American taxpayers to pay for this atrocity certainly isn’t unifying.

«We applaud pro-life members of Congress who are leading the charge to counter this administration’s radical abortion policies.  We fully support the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance Act lead by Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) which would permanently codify PLGHA so that funding abortion businesses overseas is not up to the preference of the current president,» concluded Szoch.

Travel bans extended as United Arab Emirates, Burundi and Rwanda added to red list to prevent spread of new variant

PR Newswire

LONDON, 28 January 2021 / PRN Africa / —

United Arab Emirates, Burundi and Rwanda added to travel ban.

The government has taken the urgent decision to ban travel to the UK from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Burundi and Rwanda to prevent the spread of the new variant originally identified in South Africa into the UK.

From 1pm on Friday 29 January, passengers who have been in or transited through the United Arab Emirates, Burundi and Rwanda in the last 10 days will no longer be granted access to the UK.

This does not include British and Irish nationals, or third-country nationals with residence rights in the UK, who will be able to enter the UK but are required to self-isolate for 10 days at home, along with their household. Passengers returning from these countries cannot be released from self-isolation through Test to Release.

There will also be a flight ban on direct passenger flights from the UAE.

The decision to ban travel from these destinations follows the discovery of a new coronavirus variant first identified in South Africa, that may have spread to other countries, including the UAE, Burundi and Rwanda.

Any exemptions usually in place will not apply, including for business travel.

British nationals currently in the UAE should make use of the commercial options available if they wish to return to the UK. Indirect commercial routes that will enable British and Irish nationals and residents to return to the UK continue to operate.

British nationals should check Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) travel advice and follow local guidance. The FCDO will continue to offer tailored consular assistance to British nationals in country in need of advice on a 24/7 basis.

Today’s (28 January 2021) action follows new measures announced by the government yesterday to minimise travel across international borders and reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, including managed isolation in hotels and the need to declare a reason for travel. More details on these measures will be set out next week.

About ApiJect Systems, Corp.

ApiJect Systems, Corp., is a global medical injectable technology company that seeks to change how medicines and vaccines are packaged and delivered to the world. Its platform is centered around the combination of two globally trusted technologies: pen needle-style hubs and Blow-Fill-Seal drug packaging, or BFS for short. The ApiJect platform’s first device, the Prefilled Injector, allows a healthcare professional to twist on an IM Needle Hub onto a BFS prefilled container, creating a simple, safe and convenient-to-use prefilled injector that reliably delivers a single dose of medicine or vaccine.

The ApiJect team is led by a seasoned group of senior employees in pharma management, operations, engineering, production, quality and sales.

By creating a domestic and global network of partners that can package medicines and vaccines in BFS containers at high-speed, and providing them with interlocking Needle Hubs, the ApiJect platform can potentially supply healthcare markets with billions of single dose, ready-to-use prefilled injectors. ApiJect, along with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is a founding member of the RAPID Consortium, a public-private partnership dedicated to giving the U.S. and the world the surge drug packaging capacity it needs for addressing future pandemics and bio-emergencies.

ApiJect was awarded a $138 million contract from the Department of Defense, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to create a high-volume domestic capacity to supply prefilled injectors. The U.S.-based capacity ApiJect has built through this emergency program aims to provide approximately 45 million prefilled injectors per month to America’s population through 2021.

ApiJect has also recently been approved by the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation for a $590 million loan to construct a multi-facility campus enabling the U.S. to more quickly package high volumes of injectable medicines and vaccines in the event of a national emergency, beginning with COVID-19. Located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, this 1.2 million square foot campus will be home to the ApiJect Gigafactory, featuring one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical fill-finish facilities, which is expected to have an annual production capacity of up to 3 billion single-dose prefilled injectors. Learn more about ApiJect at www.apiject.com.

Whether those projections are met or surpassed, the matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Feb. 7, will almost certainly become the most legally wagered-on single event in U.S. history.

«With the expansion of legal sports betting over the last year, both in terms of new markets and growth within existing markets, a historic weekend is inevitable,» said Dustin Gouker, lead analyst for PlayUSA.com. «Half a billion dollars or more bet on one game seems almost unfathomable, but considering the direction of the U.S. market, that handle is easily within reach.»

With 20 states and Washington D.C., representing a population of about 120 million, now offering some form of legal sports betting, a year-over-year jump is certain. Last year, 14 states, representing a population of 70 million, allowed for legal Super Bowl bets. Those 14 states combined for an estimated Super Bowl handle of $300 million, according to PlayUSA.

The Super Bowl is always the most bet-on single sporting event in the U.S. In 2020, the American Gaming Association estimated that $6.8 billion was bet, both legally and illegally.

For this year’s game:

  • Sports betting is legal in at least some form in Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington D.C., and West Virginia.
  • Illinois, Colorado, and Tennessee did not offer any form of legal sports betting for last year’s Super Bowl. Together they represent three of the seven largest legal sports betting markets currently operating in the U.S.
  • Nevada, the second-largest market in the U.S., is expected to lead all U.S. markets with $125 million in bets on the big game, according to PlayUSA projections.

«The potential this year is enormous compared to last year, with legal sports betting available to 50 million more people than last year’s Super Bowl,» said Eric Ramsey, analyst for PlayUSA. «The U.S. market has changed so much over the last year. Not only has it nearly doubled in size, but bettors now make a higher percentage of their bets online compared with a year ago. And sportsbooks will utilize the Super Bowl to aggressively promote themselves to new customers, especially in fledgling markets like Michigan and Virginia

The Mahomes-led Chiefs are consensus 3-point favorites over the Brady-led Bucs, with an over/under that could surpass the Super Bowl record of 57 points by kickoff. Prop bets and in-game wagering will also add significantly to the handle, especially as bettors have become more accustomed to betting via mobile apps.

«It’s an intriguing matchup with two of the biggest names in the sport, Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, facing off, and that should help compensate for both teams being from relatively small markets,» Gouker said. «With the expansion of the sports betting market, it is close to a certain win for the industry, with the potential to reach more customers than ever before.»

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 28, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) is proud to announce that it received a perfect score of 100 on the 2021 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), for the 10th consecutive year. CEI is the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation.  MGM Resorts joins the ranks of 767 major U.S. businesses that also earned top marks this year.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer people. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.

«From the previously unimaginable impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, to a long overdue reckoning with racial injustice, 2020 was an unprecedented year. Yet, many businesses across the nation stepped up and continued to prioritize and champion LGBTQ equality,» said Alphonso David, Human Rights Campaign President. «This year has shown us that tools like the CEI are crucial in the work to increase equity and inclusion in the workplace, but also that companies must breathe life into these policies and practices in real and tangible ways. Thank you to the companies that understand protecting their LGBTQ employees and consumers from discrimination is not just the right thing to do—but the best business decision.»

The CEI rates companies on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars:

  • Non-discrimination policies across business entities;
  • Equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families;
  • Supporting an inclusive culture; and,
  • Corporate social responsibility.

«At MGM Resorts we are proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community and we will continue to foster the importance of representation, diversity and inclusion within our culture,» said Jyoti Chopra, Chief People, Inclusion and Sustainability Officer for MGM Resorts International. «This past year reminded us that we are better together, and we can make a palpable difference in the lives of so many who are simply asking for basic human rights. For more than 20 years we’ve worked across the communities in which we operate, to act on ways to lift others up towards equality; It is at the core of who we are as a company.»

MGM Resorts has a record of support of the LGBTQ community, as a National Corporate Partner of HRC and otherwise; For example, MGM Resorts was a founding partner of the Las Vegas chapter of the Human Rights Campaign in 2004. In 2011, MGM Resorts expanded its supplier and construction diversity programs to include lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ)-owned firms.

Years before same-sex marriage was legalized across the entire United States, same-sex commitment ceremonies were performed at chapels at MGM Resorts’ properties, which continue to develop specialized marriage ceremony offerings and outreach to same-sex couples.
