LONDON, Jan. 25, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Plan B, a podcast about citizenship by investment produced by government advisory CS Global Partners, released a new season last week. In conversation with host Aisha Mohamed, CBI Index researcher James McKay discussed the Commonwealth of Dominica’s success in the index’s latest edition. McKay also projected that in the fifth CBI Index, due to launch later in 2021, will also see Caribbean nations, especially Dominica, rank high.

The CBI Index is an in-depth report that evaluates all the available Citizenship by Investment Programmes. It compares the programmes by ranking their overall performance and desirability and grades them based on nine ‘pillars’ ranging from freedom of movement and standard of living to family and certainty of product. This allows readers to decide which second citizenship might best suit their priorities. The index is published annually by the Financial Times’s Professional Wealth Management (PWM) magazine.

«The Caribbean nations, particularly Dominica, have typically scored highly on pillars such as the minimum investment outlay, mandatory travel residence, ease of processing, and due diligence since the beginning of the CBI Index. I just don’t see any significant changes there [in 2021]», said McKay on the podcast.

McKay also commented on the shifting priorities of investors looking for second citizenship in the pandemic era: «On many levels, there will be a reassessment of priorities taking place as a result of the pandemic. Because suddenly, due to the unprecedented closure of borders around the world, many investors just simply found themselves grounded in their own countries.»

«The all-important issue of where you can go with your entire family with fewer restrictions on movement is of rising importance. Perhaps parts of the world that are a little bit more remote and have fewer cases of COVID-19 may increase in desirability,» he added.

Dominica has been operating its CBI Programme since 1993. Under the Programme, an investor can obtain citizenship of Dominica upon a one-time contribution to the Economic Diversification Fund, or, as of 2014, upon the purchase of an approved real estate project. Benefits of Dominican nationality include visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 75 percent of the world, increased international business opportunities, and the ability to pass citizenship to kin for generations to come.

Changes to Prop 65 warnings and five substance restricted under TSCA

OTTAWA, ON, Jan. 19, 2021 /PRNewswire/ – On February 3 2020, Claigan Environmental Inc. (www.claigan.com) will present a webinar on the significant changes to both California Proposition 65 and US TSCA.  Under the proposed Prop 65 changes, the generic small form warnings will be replaced by warnings that include identification of at least one chemical.  Under TSCA, in January 2021, the US EPA has banned five substances in articles.  In both cases, the deadlines are in 2022 – leaving companies with very little time to prepare.

California Proposition 65 (Prop 65) is the most heavily enforced restricted materials legislation in the world, with over 300 prosecutions per month.  Prosecutions under Prop 65 have been avoidable by providing simple generic warnings on products or packaging.  Under the proposed amendments, companies will now have to identify specific chemicals in their generic warnings.  In the first half of the webinar, Claigan will go into specific detail on the changes including practical outcomes.

Unlike the EU and California, the US, at a federal level, has had very few chemical restrictions in products.  Under the new final rules published by the EPA in January 2021, five substances will now be banned in articles.  In the second half of the webinar, Claigan will describe the restrictions, deadlines, common uses of the chemicals, and practical approaches to compliance, considering the short deadlines involved.

The main topics to be covered in this webinar are –

  • Prop 65
    • Current warning rules
    • Changes to short form warning rules
    • Identification of chemical substances
    • Timelines
    • Practical approaches to compliance
  • US TSCA Final Rules
    • 5 Substances newly restricted
    • Scope and deadlines
    • Common uses for each for the chemicals
    • Practical approaches to compliance

Due to the interest in these topics, two (2) webinars will be held on February 3 to accommodate a larger audience.

SEOUL, South Korea, Jan. 25, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — LG Innotek (CEO Cheol-dong Jeong) revealed on the 25th that it had succeeded in developing a digital car key module with improved location detection precision and security.

A “Digital Car Key Module” developed by LG Innotek. This module can detect the smartphone location 5 times more precisely than the existing modules and provides enhanced security.

A digital car key module is a communication component that is installed in a car and allows wireless data transmission between a car and a smartphone. A digital key is a next-generation car key that allows users to open or lock the car door or start the engine using a smartphone. A driver can use his/her smartphone to oversee the vehicle conditions, including driving distance, fuel efficiency, tire pressure, etc., at a glance as well as control the vehicle.

A “Digital Car Key Module” developed by LG Innotek

Users can lend the digital key to another person or allow only specific functions, such as opening or closing the trunk, using a smartphone app. Users don’t need to carry a physical key, reducing the risk of losing the key. Also, the smartphone must be inside the car to drive it, reducing the risk of car theft.

As the car sharing and rental services have grown recently, the demand for a digital car key module has increased every year. But the existing digital car key modules had low location detection precision and concerns for low security as they were prone to hacking, etc.

The digital car key module that LG Innotek developed uses the ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, which is a wireless LAN communication technology, and a proprietary algorithm, improving the location detection precision. In addition, the module has increased the security by applying a proprietary hacking prevention technology.

  • Industry’s top-level location detection precision with improved security

The digital car key module that LG Innotek developed can detect the location of a smartphone 5 times more precisely than the existing key modules. The module’s error range between the actual smartphone’s location and the recognition location has been reduced from 50 cm (19.7 in) to under 10 cm (3.9 in).

For example, if an existing car key module detects that a smartphone is located between 4.7 m (15.4 ft) and and 5.2 m (17.1 ft) from the module when the phone is actually 5 m (16.4 ft) away, the LG Innotek’s new digital car key module can detect that the smartphone is located between 4.9 m (16.1 ft) and 5 m (16.4 ft), which is a fairly good accuracy.

To achieve this, LG Innotek used the ultra-wideband technology with better precision for distance and direction than the Bluetooth low energy (BLE) technology. In addition, for the module, LG Innotek used its proprietary design technology for a wireless communication antenna and its proprietary location measurement algorithm.

The more precisely a digital car key module detects the location of a smartphone, the more diverse and more convenient functions can be implemented. The digital car key module can detect the smartphone location and open the driver’s seat door in advance or start the engine automatically.

In addition, it can provide a driver with personalized driving environment. When several people use the same car, the module can recognize the smartphone location and set the driver’s seat or side-view mirrors automatically for the corresponding driver. When several people with the same digital car key get on the vehicle, the module can detect the person on the driver’s seat accurately.

This module also enhanced the security for a car. LG Innotek’s proprietary hacking prevention technology prevents electromagnetic interference and tampering of communication between vehicle and smartphone. This drastically reduces the possibility of car theft due to the loss of smartphone or digital key hacking.

With all these functions, the digital car key module is compact and slim. The module, with the size of a single clip thanks to the ultra-precision high integration technology, contains about 60 components including RF (radio frequency) element, power block element, etc. With its compact size, it can be freely installed anywhere inside and outside the vehicle.

Besides, the module complies with the latest standards of the Car Connectivity Consortium, a global digital key standardization organization, allowing it to be used regardless of country, terrain, and vehicle type. LG Innotek is a core member of this organization and actively participates in the standardization of a digital car key in cooperation with major global companies in the industry.

  • «Accelerating inroads into the automotive digital key market»

With the digital car key module, LG Innotek plans to actively make inroads into the market for next-generation communication components. The company is actively running promotions targeting global manufacturers of vehicles and vehicle components in the US, Japan, and Europe as well as in Korea with the aim of mass-producing the product by 2020.

Insoo Ryu, the Head of Automotive Components & Electronics Business Division, says, «It will be possible to implement various mobility services using the digital car key module to enhance customer value.» He adds, «We will continue to release innovative automotive components that can provide drivers with convenient, safe, and enjoyable driving experience.»

According to Strategic Analytics, a global market research institution, the number of vehicles with a digital key in the global market will increase by 360% from 6.3 million units in 2020 to 28.9 million units in 2025.

As the Car-Buying Process Moves Online, Satisfaction Climbs to an All-Time High

ATLANTA, Jan. 25, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — There was a time when consumers rated the car-buying process roughly on par with a stubborn root canal. But those days are passing into the rearview mirror now, as auto dealers move more steps of the retail process online resulting in consumer satisfaction hitting an all-time high, according to the new Digitization of End-to-End Retailing (DoEER) study by Cox Automotive.

With buyers spending less time at dealerships and benefitting from more efficient, digital retailing processes, those who were «highly satisfied» with the overall shopping experience reached 72%, up from 60% in 2019. The average vehicle buyer now visits only 2 dealerships in the vehicle buying process, down from 2.7 in 2016.

«According to our data, car buyers have never been happier,» notes Cox Automotive Vice President of Research & Market Intelligence Isabelle Helms. «Consumers have long asked for a process that is more efficient and requires less time at the dealership. With more steps moving online, that’s exactly what they are getting. And it is not just consumers who are benefitting. Dealers, too, are seeing the advantages of a more efficient, streamlined purchasing process.»

The Cox Automotive Digitization of End-to-End Retailing study was undertaken to measure and understand the shifts in consumer preference toward a more online purchase process. Beginning in August 2020, a total of 1,859 purchase intenders were interviewed, along with 462 franchised auto dealers that offer digital retailing tools. The results of the study are being released today.

Digital retailing is not new to the automobile business, and Cox Automotive, among the largest automotive services providers in the world, has been a proponent of the approach for years, offering both the tools and the know-how to help dealers move more of the purchase process online. Still, the Cox Automotive Digitization of End-to-End Retailing study shows that only 1-in-3 franchised automobile dealers in the U.S. offer all the purchase steps online.

The shift is on, though. In 2020, 69% of franchised dealers added at least one digital step due to COVID-19, and 74% indicated their customers have used digital retailing tools more since the onset of the global pandemic. Among the most popular activities for shoppers to complete online or at home: Finding information on incentives; calculating monthly payments; applying for credit; and finalizing the vehicle price.

Importantly, franchised automobile dealers know what the future holds. In the survey, 75% of dealers agreed that they would not be able to survive in the long run without adopting digital retailing tools and moving more of their sales process online.

Digital Retailing is a Win-Win for Consumers and Dealers
According to the study, 64% of shoppers want more of the purchase process to happen online, compared to the last time they bought a vehicle. But consumers are not the only ones that see the appeal – and the benefit – of the shift to digital retailing.

Sixty-one percent of franchised dealers note that digital retailing efforts are allowing them to spend less time on a sale; more than half believe it helps them improve the customer experience. Importantly, 75% of dealers agree that digital retailing provides shoppers a more customized experience, a key to higher satisfaction with the shopping process.

While interest in digital retailing continues to grow – and grew significantly in 2020 during the pandemic – Cox Automotive still believes that auto dealerships as physical locations play a critical role in the vehicle buying experience. To be sure, research consistently demonstrates that automobile shoppers still have a strong desire to spend quality time at the dealership, test driving the vehicle and setting up their new vehicle after purchase – both hands-on activities that are a lot more fun and informative than filling out paperwork and waiting.

Still, the future is digital, and the process is moving online, right down to negotiating the final purchase price. In 2017, research by Cox Automotive showed that 25% of buyers wanted to finalize the vehicle price online. By 2020, that number had jumped to near 40%. Dealers are taking notice: 80% of franchised dealers surveyed in the DoEER study indicated they plan to offer even more parts of the purchase process online in the next 1-2 years.

MIAMI, Jan. 25, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Carnival Cruise Line today released plans for additional ship deployments as it continues to refine its phased in approach to a return to guest operations for 2021, resulting in some ship-specific cruise cancellations and movements.  Those plans include:

  • Related to already-announced dry dock plans for Carnival Magic, Carnival Paradise and Carnival Valor, those ships’ return to operations will be delayed until November 2021. Consequently, voyages on Carnival Magic from Norfolk (embarkations from Sept. 29-Oct. 30), Carnival Paradise from Tampa (embarkations from June 5-Oct. 28) and Carnival Valor from New Orleans (embarkations from Sept. 16-Oct. 28) have been cancelled.
  • Carnival Miracle’s planned seasonal service from San Diego has been suspended until further notice, and sailings out of San Diego that were available for sale through April 2023 have been cancelled, with the exception of seven voyages to Hawaii, which will move to Long Beach.
  • Carnival Radiance’s dry dock and transformation has been moved to September, with a planned arrival to Long Beach in November 2021.
  • With Carnival Miracle’s reposition to Long Beach, the ship will assume the three- and four-day itineraries for Carnival Radiance from May 3-Nov. 1, 2021 as well as the seven Hawaii Carnival Journeys referenced above. In addition, Carnival Miracle will launch a new program of four- and five-day cruises to Mexico during the winter season, beginning November 2021 and continuing through April 2023.

Carnival is advising guests and travel agents of these changes.  Where possible, West Coast guests are being accommodated in a transfer to Carnival Miracle (from Carnival Radiance), or the retention of their Hawaiian itinerary via a Long Beach embarkation instead.  With this change, Carnival will eventually run a three-ship operation from its port facility at Long Beach:  Carnival Panorama sailing seven-day Mexican Riviera itineraries and Carnival Radiance operating three- and four-day  itineraries year-round, with Carnival Miracle operating four- and five-day Mexico and 14-day Hawaii itineraries during the winter.

«Like so much about this current global situation, we are adapting our plans as circumstances evolve and we are able to confirm alternatives.  We are disappointed that our return to seasonal ports like Norfolk and San Diego has been impacted and appreciate the support of those port partners and communities.  The support of our guests, travel agents, ports and business partners has truly been overwhelming as we work through this situation,» said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
