SAN DIEGO, Feb. 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Today, Rhombus Energy Solutions and IoTecha Corp. announced a partnership to provide end-to-end vehicle electrification services for the medium- and heavy-duty (M/HD) electric vehicle (EV) fleet market. This collaboration will build on the existing partnership between Rhombus and IoTecha, in which IoTecha’s intelligent charging controllers and IoT.ON™ cloud services have been employed in Rhombus’ bi-directional high-power M/HD EV charging infrastructure. Rhombus’ market-leading chargers have been deployed in a variety of scenarios, including charging infrastructure for a number of public transit buses and electric school bus fleets. The Rhombus and IoTecha partnership will be one of the first to support Plug-and-Charge, a key feature of the Combined Charging System (CCS) and ISO/IEC 15118 Vehicle to Grid (V2G) communication that enables seamless and secure charging with compatible aggregators and utilities. Plug-and-Charge will be supported by Porsche Taycan, Ford Mustang Mach-E and Lucid Air EVs on the Electrify America network.

«As the leading vendor of bi-directional, V2X-ready chargers, Rhombus has enjoyed a highly productive relationship with IoTecha,» said Rick Sander, Chief Executive Officer of Rhombus Energy Solutions. «Our bi-directional high-power DC chargers are built for the high availability required by medium- and heavy-duty fleets. We are pleased to extend our relationship with IoTecha to provide fleet operators with a complete solution including charging infrastructure and cloud management tools, and we look forward to what the future holds for our partnership.»

One of the areas that Rhombus and IoTecha are collaborating on is V2G operation, which is a gamechanger for both consumer and commercial electric vehicles. SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — The Autonomous Vehicle Computing Consortium (AVCC), a global group of automotive and technology industry leaders cooperating to help expedite the delivery of automated and assisted driving compute solutions, reported today that 2020 saw significant organizational growth and progress. Members have finalized two key foundation documents, new working groups have kicked off work, and critical topics such as cybersecurity are now being addressed. Additional work and liaisons are kicking off in 2021, and new members are invited to help drive these initiatives forward.

«The need for AVCC’s guidance for autonomous vehicle computing has gained importance over the past year, and we are proud of our technical committees’ work to unite and build consensus around industry recommendations,» commented Armando Pereira, President of AVCC. «We more than doubled our membership and are on the cusp of publishing two of the first cornerstone technical recommendations that will be the foundation for industry work for years to come.»

Growth
When it launched in 2019, AVCC featured eight leading OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers and semiconductor companies: Arm, Bosch, Continental, DENSO, General Motors, NVIDIA, NXP Semiconductors, and Toyota.

In the space of a single year, the AVCC grew 150%, as original members were joined by an additional twelve, including:

  • Ansys
  • Brodmann17
  • Mazda
  • Nissan
  • RTI
  • Sandia National Laboratories
  • SEI ANTech Europe
  • Renesas
  • Synopsys
  • Veoneer
  • Xilinx
  • Zenseact

These members bring a wealth of expertise in automotive compute elements and interaction, imaging signal processing, and cybersecurity.

Progress
Fourth quarter 2020 marked the launch of the newest working group, Cybersecurity, which commenced with a valuable membership poll of current cybersecurity practices, standards and needs analysis to drive prioritization of the work. This quarter, AVCC will release a set of technical reference documents for AV Systems Architecture and Image Signal Processing. The Micro-Benchmarks Working Group will release their first of three documents in development, focused on AV Condition Benchmarking Recommendations, in 2Q21. These recommendations will facilitate easier cooperation, expedite RFPs, and provide the groundwork for deployment-at-scale.

The ongoing goals of AVCC are to:

  • Develop a conceptual compute platform architecture, its hardware requirements and software APIs to define an automated and assisted driving-vehicle ecosystem that uses processors, accelerators and other application-specific engines
  • Offer technical recommendations/specifications guided by the objectives of portability, interoperability, scalability and a balance between performance and cost
  • Identify relevant system level requirements in the architecture, hardware or software APIs
  • Work with standards bodies to identify, leverage and influence the development of industry standards

It is the intent of the Consortium to focus this work to synchronize deliverables with the start of vehicle mass production cycles.

Driving the Future of AV
The path to delivering autonomous vehicles is long and complex. Significant challenges to deployment include:

  • ultra-high-performance computing requirements within the power, thermal and size constraints of a vehicle,
  • security and safety concerns such as firmware protection, threat modeling, privacy, and regional regulatory and standards compliance
  • excessive costs and complexity of offering proprietary solutions
  • public adoption

The AVCC understands these technological complexities and obstacles need to be overcome, and is bringing the industry together to deliver recommendations that address these challenges.

For more information about AVCC and how it is helping accelerate the delivery of safe and affordable automated and assisted driving vehicles at scale, including information how to become a member, please visit http://www.avcconsortium.org.

NEW YORK, Feb. 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — As millions of people continue to be inoculated with the COVID vaccine and reported cases of the virus continue to decline, consumers itching to hit the road again are anxiously awaiting a third component to further stimulate travel: Spring! One year after business and leisure travel came to a screeching halt, consumers are seeing light at the end of a dark tunnel and beginning to jockey for position as the weather thaws and the prospects of travel begin to heat up. Joseph Rosendo is one globetrotter who knows a thing or two about travel destinations, safety, and patience. The Emmy-winning host of Joseph Rosendo’s Travelscope on PBS spoke with ExpertFlyer.com to discuss his 40-year career as a travel writer, a year without travel and plans for the year ahead, and his new book, Musings – The Short Happy Pursuit of Pleasure and Other Journeys.

«For Travelscope’s 12 seasons we have brought experiential travel experiences to consumers around the country, and around the world,» Joseph Rosendo explains. «And I think that is the reason for our success. Today, travelers are interested in genuine, authentic experiences with other people and their cultures, not just a list of landmarks they can check off, and I think our PBS show inspires viewers to experience the world for themselves.»

Rosendo concurred that consumers are chomping at the bit to get back out there and experience the world and physically connect with people again, himself included. The PBS show was placed on hiatus in 2020 and he is anxious to hit the road and roll the cameras once again. But the pandemic gave Rosendo the downtime he needed to compile (and consolidate) 40-plus years of travel experiences, reflections, and insights into a new book. «‘Musings’ is almost a travel diary of my adventures over the past 40 years and includes tips and short, fun stories about destinations and my travel life that are easy to read and digest.»

As spring approaches, Rosendo recommends travelers focus on trips that feature the great outdoors to maintain safe distance protocols. «There are so many great treasures in the world and so many here in the U.S.,» Rosendo says, reminding U.S. travelers that experiencing amazing locations doesn’t require international travel. «We visited beautiful national parks during the pandemic including Yosemite and Big Sur in California. We shouldn’t be afraid of traveling. We just need to be more discerning about where we travel and how we travel.»

As consumers look ahead to summer destination options, Rosendo suggests researching locations who have lifted travel restrictions but beware of their guidelines. For example, Rosendo says that New Zealand and countries in the Pacific and Southeast Asia, such as Taiwan, seem to have a handle on the pandemic and offer amazing travel experiences. But he says you have to ask lots of questions as you research potential destinations that claim to be safe. «Does their idea of safety match mine and what exactly are they doing to keep visitors safe?»

Dr. Priya Nori, director of the Antibiotic Stewardship Program, an infectious disease specialist at Montefiore Health System, and associate professor of medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Dr. Priya Nori, director of the Antibiotic Stewardship Program, an infectious disease specialist at Montefiore Health System, and associate professor of medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Global Airport Information Technology (IT) Market Report 2020-2025: Airports Need to Embrace Digital Transformation to Enhance Passenger Experience and Improve Cost Efficiencies

DUBLIN, Feb. 18, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The «Global Airport Information Technology (IT) Market, 2025 – Digital Transformation to Drive Growth» report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com’s offering.

Research and Markets Logo

Airports need to embrace digital transformation to enhance the passenger experience and improve cost efficiencies.

This research service will focus on the global airport information technology market across the various Tiers of airports (5 Tiers in total) and across 6 key regions, Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and North America.

Sensor technology is maturing and their cost is reducing considerably. These factors, along with low-latency communication technologies (5G communication) will drive large-scale adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) in airports in the long term. IoT will enable airports to optimally allocate resources, enhance the passenger experience, and reduce operational costs.

The future airport will be diversified, automated, passenger centric, and underpinned by secure and trusted data. There is an acknowledged shift in passenger expectations, with the ground experience becoming more important in the passenger journey. System integration leads to more competition among suppliers across airport touchpoints; consolidation is witnessed across key areas such as passenger processing, baggage handling, and operations management. Airports are focusing on solution providers that have an end-to-end solution portfolio for all their information technology requirements.

There is an immediate requirement from airports to enhance passenger self-service and monitor safety guidelines compliance. This will require solution providers to accelerate innovation to deliver high-priority solutions for the post-pandemic market. Airports’ information technology is largely based on legacy systems. This hinders their innovation and increases complexity for IT operations. There is slow adoption of cloud-based infrastructure and solutions as airports are gradually migrating workloads to the cloud infrastructure.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly reduced the technology-spending capability of airports globally. Airports will still invest in digital solutions that are of high priority in the short term (e.g., passenger self-service, passenger flow management). System integration is a key challenge due to its complex and time-intensive nature. It is largely done by mature participants in the market and is a key market opportunity for solution providers. There has been a negative impact on the overall revenue of airports due to the drastic reduction in passenger traffic.

However, investments into digital solutions are still active, as solution providers are developing solutions that can ensure a safe and healthy passenger experience (e.g., contactless self-service). Airports defer long-term projects that are time and cost intensive, whereas they prioritize solutions that are critical to attracting passengers and ensuring safety for passengers and employees.

Two key factors that are essential to the growth of this market are the type of airport ownership and estimated passenger traffic growth. Private airport operators have higher technology investment spending capability, high adoption rates of next-generation technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence), reduced bureaucratic challenges, and a high focus on ensuring a seamless and enjoyable passenger experience. Airports with high passenger traffic will need to ensure smooth transition of passengers at the airport and reduce aircraft turnaround times during peak hours.

Physical expansion of infrastructure to facilitate growing passenger footfall and additional aircraft is a cost and time-intensive process with multiple challenges, such as disruption to current operations and government and regulatory approvals. Airports in Europe and Asia-Pacific meet the above-mentioned requirements and are key growth engines for this market. Tier 1 and Tier 2 airports across all regions contribute to approximately 74% of the global airport IT market during the forecast period. High passenger traffic, a large number of complex IT systems, high focus on minimizing disruption to operations, and a higher potential to invest more in technology are the key factors for such a high contribution to the airport IT market from these airport Tiers.

In the long term, the opportunities in integration and consulting services for solution providers will grow. Integrating new solutions such as machine learning based forecasting and passenger flow management solutions to the legacy systems of airports is a complex process with a high risk of disruption in operations. As airports migrate to cloud-based infrastructure and solutions, medium- and small-sized participants can also play the role of integrators.

As airports are mitigating challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and physical infrastructure constraints, there is an opportunity for solution providers to provide consultancy services that will help airports face these challenges in a better manner.
