PLEASANTON, Calif., Feb. 16, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Fulcrum BioEnergy, a pioneer in the production of low-carbon, transportation fuels from municipal solid waste, announces the site selection and launch of development activities on its first United Kingdom residual waste to low-carbon, Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) plant. The «Fulcrum NorthPoint» biorefinery will be located at the Essar Oil (UK) Limited refinery at Stanlow, Ellesmere Port, in the North West of England.

«The UK has a rich history in aviation related innovation, and we are proud to be able to continue to support the industry with the introduction of our low-carbon, waste-to-jet fuel platform,» said Jim Macias, President and Chief Executive Officer of Fulcrum. «Launching our first UK project at Stanlow, in collaboration with Essar, brings tremendous benefits in terms of plant operability, efficiency of feedstock and fuel product logistics. On-site storage via Stanlow Terminals Limited and direct access to airport pipelines, make this an attractive site for our project. Fulcrum’s innovative and patented waste-to-fuels process will help reduce the impacts from climate change, boost the economy by supplying low-carbon, drop in transportation fuel as well as bringing high-paying jobs and investment to the North West of England

«We are excited to have been chosen to host Fulcrum’s first UK biorefinery. Stanlow and the surrounding area is transitioning toward a low-carbon energy cluster for the UK and the advanced fuel that will be produced from this plant will position Stanlow as the UK’s leading sustainable aviation fuel hub,» said Stein Ivar Bye, Chief Executive Officer at Essar Oil UK. «We look forward to supporting Fulcrum with its development and to increase our involvement in the project.»

Construction on Fulcrum NorthPoint, subject to planning permission and financing, is expected to begin in late 2023 and will take approximately 18-24 months to complete. Fulcrum NorthPoint will convert several hundred thousand tons of pre-processed waste, which would otherwise be destined for incineration or the landfill, into approximately 30 million gallons of low-carbon Sustainable Aviation Fuel annually. The biorefinery will utilize Fulcrum’s proprietary waste-to-fuel process, which will help contribute to the UK’s Net Zero ambitions while generating hundreds of jobs in the region during construction and operations of the project.

Fulcrum NorthPoint will lead the way to a cleaner and more sustainable future in the North West of England and change the way aviation fuel is made to help decarbonize the UK. Using SAF derived from residual, domestic household and commercial waste, greenhouse gas emissions are reduced significantly on a lifecycle basis when compared to fuels produced from conventional crude oil.

Fulcrum’s first commercial project, the Sierra BioFuels Plant located outside of Reno, Nevada, is in late-stage construction and is set to begin operations in 2021. The Sierra plant will be the first commercial-scale plant in the world to convert municipal solid waste, or household garbage, into low-carbon transportation fuels. In addition to Fulcrum NorthPoint, Fulcrum has an extensive, global development program underway including the 33 million gallon a year Centerpoint biorefinery in Gary, Indiana, and a similar sized project in the United States Gulf Coast region where the company is finalizing site selection.

About Fulcrum

Based in Pleasanton, California, Fulcrum is leading the development of a reliable and efficient process for transforming municipal solid waste – or household garbage – into transportation fuels including jet fuel and diesel. The company’s plants will provide customers with a low-carbon, drop-in fuel that is competitively priced.  Fulcrum, a privately held company, has aligned itself with strategic feedstock, technology and fuel offtake partners to further strengthen and accelerate the company’s innovative approach to commercially producing large volumes of renewable fuel from municipal solid waste. YAKUM, Israel, Feb. 16, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Augwind (TASE: AUGN) specializes in the development and commercialization of advanced compressed air storage technologies for various applications, mainly for increased energy efficiency in factories and industries (AirSmart), and for high-capacity energy storage applications for the electricity sector (AirBattery). The technologies are for, among others, renewable energy electricity generation sources such as PV or wind, utilities and distributors across the energy supply chain, and for commercial and industrial customers that require efficient integration of renewable energy sources.

The company announces that its board of directors has instructed management to promote a public offering on a stock exchange in the United States, either through an Initial Public Offering (IPO) or through linking up with an existing public platform (such as a SPAC), in addition to listing of the company’s shares for trade on the Israeli stock exchange.

The board of directors’ considerations for the decision include:

  1. Creating a significant presence in the American market, which is a substantial target market for the company’s products. The company believes that this action will promote its business activity, particularly due to the fact that its products require significant, long-term commitments to potential customers.
  2. Creating transparency vis-à-vis the American market as a company reporting in English and according to U.S. reporting standards and regulations. The company believes that this action will promote its business activity vis-à-vis customers, suppliers, lenders, and investors.
  3. As a company targeting global infrastructure markets, Augwind’s activity will require access to capital and debt sources to finance market penetration, investments and other long-term liabilities. Listing on a stock exchange in the United States would benefit the company in terms of access to additional sources of capital and debt for its potential use.

CGTN:What is China’s role in global fight against COVID-19?

BEIJING, Feb. 16, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The COVID-19 pandemic, affecting all countries, has underscored both the way China addresses a global challenge and its vision for a better world.

As the first major…

BEIJING, Feb. 16, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The COVID-19 pandemic, affecting all countries, has underscored both the way China addresses a global challenge and its vision for a better world.

As the first major country to have effectively contained the virus and the only major economy to register positive growth last year, China has been at the forefront of the global fight – believing that COVID-19 knows no borders and cannot be defeated without working together.

«After a year of hardship, we can understand more than ever the significance of a community with a shared future for mankind,» Chinese President Xi Jinping said in his New Year address on the last day of 2020.

The pandemic prevented Xi from traveling overseas, but it was a busy year of diplomacy for the Chinese president nevertheless. He had 87 virtual meetings and phone calls with foreign leaders and heads of international organizations and attended 22 bilateral or multilateral events in the form of «cloud diplomacy,» calling for solidarity and cooperation to tackle the crisis.

‘Most powerful weapon’

China – particularly its central province of Hubei and the provincial capital of Wuhan – was hit hard by the COVID-19 outbreak: Nearly 90,000 confirmed cases have been reported on the Chinese mainland and more than 4,600 lives have been lost; residents in the worst-hit regions have endured weeks or even months of lockdowns, while people across the country have been cooperative amid travel restrictions, even during Chinese New Year holidays; the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) contracted 6.8 percent year on year in the first quarter of 2020.

Making people’s lives and health the priority, China has largely cut transmission channels of the virus, despite sporadic cases emerging in winter. Successful epidemic control contributed to a speedy economic recovery, with the country’s GDP expanding by 2.3 percent year on year in 2020.

Meanwhile, China is fulfilling its responsibilities as a major country and fighting shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the world against the common threat to mankind that COVID-19 poses.

«Solidarity and cooperation is our most powerful weapon for fighting the virus,» Xi said in a speech at the opening of the 73rd World Health Assembly in May.

«This is the key lesson the world has learned from fighting HIV/AIDS, Ebola, avian influenza, influenza A (H1N1) and other major epidemics. And solidarity and cooperation is a sure way through which we, the people of the world, can defeat this novel coronavirus,» he said via video link.

China organized its largest global humanitarian drive since 1949, providing anti-virus assistance to over 150 countries and 10 international organizations and sending 36 medical teams to 34 countries in need.

In his speeches at the 73rd World Health Assembly, the Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity against COVID-19, the 12th BRICS Summit, the 27th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and the 15th G20 Leaders’ Summit, Xi repeatedly promised to make Chinese COVID-19 vaccines a «global public good» accessible and affordable to people around the world.

And China is delivering on that promise by providing vaccines to countries including Cambodia, Chile, Peru, Pakistan, Serbia, Hungary, Equatorial Guinea, the Laos, Mexico, Zimbabwe, the Dominican Republic and Thailand – most of which are developing countries.

«We feel greatly honored, and this speaks volumes to the relationship between us and the people of China,» Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa last week said as he thanked China for its donation of 200,000 doses of vaccine.

Aiming for a better future

As well as helping fight the health crisis brought by the pandemic, China is contributing to economic recovery worldwide and the improvement of global governance in the post-COVID-19 era.

President Xi appealed to the world’s leading economies to boost economic recovery as early as March, when the coronavirus was fast spreading across the globe.

«I want to call on all G20 members to take collective actions – cutting tariffs, removing barriers, and facilitating the unfettered flow of trade,» Xi said at the G20 Extraordinary Virtual Leaders’ Summit on COVID-19. «Together, we can send a strong signal and restore confidence for global economic recovery.»

Addressing the G20 Riyadh Summit in November, he called for concerted efforts from major economies to promote more inclusive development and improve global governance.

The G20, playing a key role in the global fight against COVID-19, should uphold multilateralism, openness, inclusiveness, and mutually beneficial cooperation, and keep pace with the times, said the Chinese president.

«We should keep our support for developing countries and help them overcome the hardships caused by the pandemic,» he told other G20 leaders.

To ease poor countries’ debt burden, China has fully implemented the G20 Debt Service Suspension Initiative (DSSI), with the total amount exceeding $1.3 billion, Xi noted.

The G20 launched the DSSI in April to address the immediate liquidity needs of low-income countries, allowing the debt service payments due from May 1 to the end of 2020 owed by the most impoverished countries to be suspended. Later the debt suspension was extended by another six months until June 30, 2021.

China has also set more ambitious goals to combat climate change and drive sustainable development. Xi announced in September that the country would strive to have CO2 emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.

«COVID-19 reminds us that humankind should launch a green revolution and move faster to create a green way of development and life,» he said in an address at the General Debate of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Xi unveiled further targets in December at the Climate Ambition Summit to mark the fifth anniversary of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

By 2030, China will lower its carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP by over 65 percent from the 2005 level, increase the share of non-fossil fuels in primary energy consumption to around 25 percent, increase the forest stock volume by six billion cubic meters from the 2005 level, and bring its total installed capacity of wind and solar power to over 1.2 billion kilowatts, he said.

The world is seeing profound changes brought by COVID-19. China, while acting to address the challenge at home, is shouldering greater responsibilities to make the world a better place after the crisis.

Kono Kogs, Inc. (KKI) Fabricates Integrated RTO/VOC Concentrator System For Emissions Control

GREEN BAY, Wis., Feb. 16, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Kono Kogs, Inc is excited to announce that they designed and fabricated their first integrated RTO/VOC concentrator system. From application to fabrication, pre-wiring, pre-piping and installation, KKI can now design, fabricate, and deliver…

GREEN BAY, Wis., Feb. 16, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Kono Kogs, Inc is excited to announce that they designed and fabricated their first integrated RTO/VOC concentrator system. From application to fabrication, pre-wiring, pre-piping and installation, KKI can now design, fabricate, and deliver any custom rotary concentrator need while providing proven performance. Their expert team has refurbished many VOC rotary concentrators and successfully reapplied them from one industry to another.

KKI has partnered with an industry-leading zeolite concentrator wheel supplier to select the proper wheel size and zeolite formulation for this particular application. Their engineering team integrated the adsorption wheel into the overall system, including filter banks designed for the specific application, desorption heaters, secondary heat recovery (where applicable), and selection of the best regenerative thermal oxidizer technology and size.

What are the Benefits of Their Integrated VOC Concentrator Systems?

  • The integrated RTO and VOC concentrator system will treat hot and ambient temperature airstreams from multiple metal coating lines.
  • This design will utilize two VOC concentrator wheels in parallel to provide redundancy for maintenance outages and allow the plant to continue to produce.
  • The system will treat emissions from several high flow, low VOC concentration airstreams found throughout the process and will minimize the number of control devices required to treat the emissions.
  • The VOC rotary concentrators will send the concentrated, reduced-flow rate airstream to a smaller, refurbished RTO, which reduces the capital cost for the RTO.
  • The RTO is configured to also treat multiple hot airstreams from their ovens, which eliminates the need for two RTO’s.

A VOC rotary concentrator is an air pollution control technology used in applications with a combination of high volume of air with low concentration of solvents or VOCs—volatile organic compounds. It is a front-end, pre-conditioning unit placed upstream of a thermal oxidizer or regenerative thermal oxidizer. By concentrating the VOCs from a large airstream into a small airstream, it allows the use of a smaller thermal oxidizer, which can significantly reduce fuel and electric costs.

This custom system is anticipated to reduce fuel use by 50% and achieves a 35% electrical savings versus utilizing a larger, stand-alone regenerative thermal oxidizer to treat the processes. Pairing it with a refurbished RTO results in a capital cost savings of $500,000 over the cost of a new system.

About Kono Kogs: Since 1996, the engineers at Kono Kogs have advised companies about thermal, regenerative thermal, and catalytic and VOC type oxidizers. The services they offer include refurbishing existing systems, preventative maintenance, emergency repair and new unit replacement alternatives. In addition, they also maintain the largest inventory of oxidizers in the US. Carrying this available inventory can cut delivery times by over 50% for their customers.

The Event-Based Business Thriving During the Pandemic

TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 16, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The event industry has without question been one of the hardest hit during the pandemic. No large gatherings, venues being shut down, and many restaurants/bars resorting to permanently closing. This has resulted in postponing weddings, concerts, festivals, and nearly anything involving crowds. Some companies were able to tread water but many people are seeing their life’s work come to end.

Strangely enough, during this downturn one event-based sector has seen a growth in demand. The mobile bar business. Hub Tap Mobile Bar Co. has seen an influx of inquiries come through as soon as the shutdown started.

Initially, people were paranoid they wouldn’t be able to have their wedding or 50th birthday party. As a result, they were booking out two years in advance not knowing when the pandemic would be over. Everyone assumed people would be locking up vendors at the same time when restrictions were lifted.

Then, as more information was released, customers started booking dates that were only two or three months out. They initially opted for outdoor events and socially distanced gatherings. From there it progressed to where we are currently. A position where people are largely aware of the situation and are making an informed choice to gather as safely as they can.

Here are some of the main reasons mobile bars have been prospering while other restaurants and event services are hurting:

  • Mobile bars do not have the same regulations that brick-and-mortar locations have to abide by.
  • There is virtually no overhead, so if you’re not working then there’s no money flowing out.
  • They allow for gatherings to be set up anywhere since the bars/services are mobile.
  • Whoever books the mobile bar gets to choose who attends.
  • The mobile bar owners have a network of photographers, DJs, and caterers to bring events together.

Many of the restaurants that are allowed to operate are limited to delivery or reduced capacity. This may allow them to survive but that’s not enough. Mobile bars are the answer for restaurants, bars, or entrepreneurs to make some extra money during the pandemic.

Hub Tap’s CFO Nick Frasse stated, «Similar to other event-based services we were worried. After the first wave passed, we knew everything would pan out alright. The surprise was when we actually saw an influx of business.»

People are social by nature. Between pandemic divorces, layoffs, and quarantining for months at a time, everyone is wanting some normalcy.

That may not happen for a long time but Hub Tap is here during the interim. This new and growing franchise is helping entrepreneur-minded people get back to serving those who are ready.

CARROLLTON, Texas, Feb. 16, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — FASTSIGNS International, Inc., franchisor of FASTSIGNS®, the leading sign, graphics, and visual communications franchise, announced today it has been ranked as one of the Top 100 Franchises of 2021 by Franchise Gator. Developed to assist prospective franchisees in their search for a franchise opportunity to invest in, the Top 100 Franchises ranked FASTSIGNS as #3 for its strong growth, financial stability, experience, and several other criteria.

«Being identified by Franchise Gator as one of the top franchise opportunities in the country once again is an accomplishment we are extremely proud of. This recognition is a testament to the strength of the brand, our franchisees, support team and the FASTSIGNS proven business model. Last year showed us that in turbulent times our franchisees can and will persevere to come out of the other side stronger than ever. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate the success of an unprecedented year through this esteemed ranking, and we look forward to our growth throughout 2021,» said Mark Jameson, Chief Support and Development Officer.

FASTSIGNS reported exceptional results in 2020, including the signing of over 31 franchise agreements in the U.S and Canada to develop new, co-branded, and conversion centers and the opening of more than 30 locations, including its first center in the Dominican Republic. Much of FASTSIGNS’ success in 2020 can be credited to centers being deemed essential businesses, allowing franchisees to pivot their services to focus on serving their customers.

This year, FASTSIGNS is aiming to sign at least 35 franchise agreements across the U.S. in markets such as Southern California, the Midwest, New England, and along the Northeast Corridor. FASTSIGNS is particularly focusing on its co-brand and conversion programs, which help existing business owners add a FASTSIGNS to their store or fully convert their business to a FASTSIGNS franchise. FASTSIGNS has helped countless owners of print shops, photography studios, camera stores, embroidery shops, and more, diversify their product lines and services to meet the growing demand for signs, graphics, and visual communications. Both the co-brand franchise opportunity and conversion can be started with only $15,000 down on the initial franchise fee.

FASTSIGNS is known in the industry for equipping its franchisees with tools vital to securing the ongoing success of each individual location. In addition to the brand’s online FASTSIGNS University, FASTSIGNS partners with 1HUDDLE, a workforce-training platform that converts unique training content into science-backed, quick-burst training games that are proven to accelerate workforce productivity.

FASTSIGNS also offers a special incentive for first responders, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers, sheriffs, and firefighters, which includes a 50% reduction on the franchise fee — a savings of $24,875.

FASTSIGNS is consistently ranked as a top franchise opportunity. Entrepreneur magazine recently recognized FASTSIGNS as the #1 franchise opportunity in its category on its 2021 Franchise 500 list for the fifth consecutive year and #44 overall — the only sign, graphics, and visual communications company to be recognized in the top 100. In 2020, Entrepreneur magazine named FASTSIGNS a Top Growth Franchise and one of the Top Franchises for Veterans. Additionally, Franchise Direct named FASTSIGNS one of the Top 100 Global Franchises in 2021, and last year, FASTSIGNS was ranked on Franchise Times’ annual Top 200+ list and Franchise Business Review named FASTSIGNS one of its Top Franchises for Second Careers and Top Franchises for Veterans. In 2019, the brand was named to America’s Best Franchises to Buy list by Forbes magazine. Franchise Business Review has also recognized FASTSIGNS as one of the «Best of the Best» for franchisee satisfaction for the last 10 years, as well as inclusion on its Top 50 Franchises for Women and Top Service Franchises lists in 2019. FASTSIGNS has also received the Canadian Franchise Association Franchisees’ Choice for eight consecutive years.
