Sheremetyevo Airport Played Critical Role in Pandemic Response, Stands Ready for Full-scale Resumption of Traffic

MOSCOW, Feb. 10, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Sheremetyevo has been the Russian Federation’s main airport serving flights from epidemiologically unfavorable countries during the COVID-19 pandemic and adopted critical services to protect passengers and employees. The airport summed up its activities for the period on the eve of Civil Aviation Day in the Russian Federation.

Despite global anti-epidemic restrictions and a significant decrease in passenger traffic during 2020, the airport quickly adapted to work in the new realities and confirmed its status as one of the most important passenger and cargo hubs in Russia and Europe.

«Although 2020 brought many challenges, particularly for the aviation industry, Sheremetyevo nimbly responded to the adversity. We successfully implemented many changes to protect passengers and employees and to ensure the health of all who passed through the airport, and are pleased to be at the forefront of the vaccination efforts domestically and abroad,» stated Sheremetyevo’s Chairman of the Board of Directors Alexander Ponomarenko.

From March through September 2020, Sheremetyevo received 236 flights returning 50,000 citizens to Russia, including a special inbound flight of Royal Flight airlines from seven African countries carrying 197 Russians as well as citizens of Ukraine and Kazakhstan. The flight had been arranged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and Sheremetyevo Airport, with the participation of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

With the outbreak of the pandemic, Sheremetyevo Airport joined with government agencies and services to develop and implement an integrated set of preventive measures designed to protect the health of passengers, guests and employees. It also took steps to optimize costs and save production resources for the prompt resumption of full-scale operational activities once restrictions on international traffic were removed and domestic and international flights began to return to their pre-pandemic levels.

Sheremetyevo currently offers the following pandemic-related services at the airport for passengers:

  • The world’s first rapid testing for COVID-19, launched on the eve of the resumption of regular international flights in cooperation with RDIF
  • A vaccination station administering vaccines to the public at the airport, begun in January 2021

Sheremetyevo Airport continues to implement anti-epidemic measures on a full scale. The effectiveness of these measures has been confirmed by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, Federal Air Transport Agency, Rospotrebnadzor and the Government for Moscow Region.

In 2020, Sheremetyevo Airport strengthened its position as the largest cargo air hub in Russia, with a 70% share in the Moscow Air Transportation Cluster market. This was despite a significant reduction in flights by passenger airlines. The airport’s cargo operator, Moscow Cargo LLC, was able to offset the decrease in scheduled passenger flights by working closely with cargo airlines and attracting new air carriers operating cargo charter flights.

In 2020, a significant part of Sheremetyevo’s cargo turnover consisted of medical goods. At the end of the year, Moscow Cargo LLC handled about 20,000 tons of medical cargo carried on international airlines, which is almost 70% more than in 2019. Since November 2020, the Moscow Cargo terminal has been handling the shipments of Sputnik V, the first Russian vaccine against coronavirus, both in Russia and abroad, including to Hungary, Serbia, Egypt and  Argentina. Modern infrastructure, the presence of an extensive fleet of special apron equipment and Moscow Cargo’s extensive experience in handling pharmaceuticals were critical factors in Moscow Cargo’s careful handling of the vaccine.

Sheremetyevo Airport handled various categories of cargo in 2020 in addition to the Sputnik V vaccine, including other non-standard cargo requiring special conditions for transportation and storage. This cargo included other medical cargo such as pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and batches of personal protective equipment.

On September 3, Moscow Cargo handled and shipped equipment for complex tests of the Nauka multifunctional laboratory module (MLM) to the Baikonur cosmodrome by a special flight. The unique equipment was carried on an AN-124-100 Ruslan cargo plane of Volga-Dnepr Airline.

Also in September, Moscow Cargo delivered special equipment for servicing aircraft to the organizers of the Formula 1 VTB Russian Grand Prix 2020 to Sochi on an AirBridgeCargo Airline flight. With the help of specialized 10- and 20-foot carts, the airport optimized the process of loading and unloading the racecars, escort vehicles and additional equipment with a total weight of more than 800 tons.

In November, Moscow Cargo handled shipment of Rémbrándt Hármenszoon van Rijn’s painting The Expulsion of Merchants from the Temple, which arrived in Moscow by flight from London after being shown at the Young Rembrandt exhibition.

On December 23, Moscow Cargo handled the first large batch of Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, weighing more than nine tons, intended for the vaccination of doctors in Argentina. The cargo was delivered on a special charter flight of Aerolíneas Argentinas. The air carrier had not previously operated flights to Sheremetyevo and chose the Moscow Cargo terminal based on the recommendations of professional market participants who regularly ship pharmaceutical cargo through Sheremetyevo.

Sheremetyevo Airport is among the TOP-5 airport hubs in Europe, the largest Russian airport in terms of passenger and cargo traffic. In 2020, the airport served 19 million 784 thousand passengers.

Sheremetyevo is the best airport in terms of quality of services in Europe, the absolute world leader in punctuality of flights, the recipient of the highest 5-star Skytrax rating.

Subaru Unveils Launch Control: Road To Gymkhana Miniseries On Youtube And Amazon Prime Video

CAMDEN, N.J., Feb. 10, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Subaru today released Launch Control: Road to Gymkhana, a two-part miniseries documenting the design, build, testing and shoot of the wildest WRX STI ever constructed—Travis Pastrana’s Gymkhana 2020 STI. As the capstone of Season 8 of the…

CAMDEN, N.J., Feb. 10, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Subaru today released Launch Control: Road to Gymkhana, a two-part miniseries documenting the design, build, testing and shoot of the wildest WRX STI ever constructed—Travis Pastrana’s Gymkhana 2020 STI. As the capstone of Season 8 of the award-winning Launch Control documentary series, Road to Gymkhana wraps up a rally season unlike any other with a build destined to take Hoonigan’s Gymkhana series to a new level. The full season is available now on both YouTube and Amazon Prime Video.

«Gymkhana 2020 was my chance to take the series in a direction no one had seen before, and Road to Gymkhana is beyond anything fans have seen from Launch Control,» said Pastrana. «The level of engineering that went into building this crazy STI, and the effort from the Subaru team to make it happen, especially with everything 2020 threw at us, it was just massive.»

The miniseries’ first episode picks up on a challenging Day 1 of the Annapolis shoot and tells the story of the early build in a series of flashbacks—from initial planning and design in the shadow of early COVID-19 lockdowns, to the challenge of transforming a production Subaru shell into a high-flying Gymkhana machine, including the development of a custom 862-horsepower SUBARU BOXER engine for the project.

Episode 2 covers the remaining three days of the shoot as Pastrana and the Subaru Motorsports USA team deliver more of the video’s signature stunts—including the high-speed country road jump, the dock-edge slide, and tandem donuts with a cameo from teammate Scott Speed—while delving deeper into advanced aerodynamics and the high level of detail needed to complete the build.

The previous five episodes of Season 8 follow the Subaru Motorsports USA rally program and drivers Pastrana and Brandon Semenuk through a pandemic-shortened but high-action season, with the team racking up seven podium finishes and a pair of rally wins in just four events.

Launch Control is a production of Formula Photographic and Bowes Media with the support of Subaru of America.

5 Best Caribbean Islands…And Two to Avoid–Internationalliving.com

BALTIMORE, Feb. 10, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — «Our newly updated Caribbean island report at InternationalLiving.com has seen a…

BALTIMORE, Feb. 10, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — «Our newly updated Caribbean island report at InternationalLiving.com has seen a spike in web traffic of 225% over the last month. And that traffic is up 184% over the same period last year,» says Jennifer Stevens, Executive Editor, International Living.

«Interest in the Caribbean has increased, which is not surprising considering the cold weather that’s plagued much of the States of late. Even though most folks are largely hunkered down, I think people are using this time at home to plan for where they’ll go once the world opens up again—and the idea of sun, sand, and not-too-long a plane ride has its appeal.

«Just say the word ‘Caribbean‘ and you conjure images of turquoise waters, leaning palms, and cocktails on the sand,» says Stevens. «And that’s about right—it’s hard to beat the sunny skies and warm, clear waters; the fishing, diving, snorkeling, sailing. A laidback life in flip flops and a sun hat sounds pretty good when you’re shoveling snow in below-zero temperatures.

«But most people assume that Caribbean dream comes with a steep price tag. And that’s not necessarily so. On the five good-value Caribbean islands our International Living team has pinpointed, a couple could live comfortably in the sun for around $2,500 a month—and even less in some places.»

Belize, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Panama, and Mexico all offer islands off their Caribbean coasts—islands that share the same turquoise-blue waters and powder-white beaches as more expensive Caribbean destinations and are much, much more affordable.

International Living editors have identified five of the best Caribbean islands that won’t break the bank…and two that just might—in their report, 5 Best Caribbean Islands to Live On…and 2 to Avoid.

Ambergris Caye, Belize

English-speaking Ambergris Caye is the largest island in Belize at 25 miles long and a little over a mile wide, and San Pedro is its only town. About 30 years ago, Ambergris became a hotspot for divers and fishermen thanks to the Belize Barrier Reef, just a half-mile offshore. This natural wonderland of living coral supports a dizzying array of marine life, and it’s the main reason Ambergris has seen its recent (and significant) growth.

Until just a few years ago, San Pedro was a little fishing village that catered to adventure tourists coming for the scuba-diving and deep-sea fishing. The main motorized transportation on Ambergris Caye at that time was golf carts (which remain popular, though there are many more cars on the island today). San Pedro is now the second-largest town in Belize District with more than 15,000 people, surpassed in size only by the former capital, Belize City.

Expats give up little living on Ambergris Caye. Power, water, cell phone coverage, and internet are reliable…and most necessities for daily living are readily available on the island. Regular water taxis and flights make it easy to take a quick shopping trip in Belize City, or Chetumal, Mexico. The selection of quality restaurants and bars is constantly expanding.

How much?

For between $2,950 to $3,150 per month, a couple can enjoy a comfortable retirement in Ambergris Caye—a budget that includes the cost of a house or apartment rental. Own your own home on the island outright and it’s possible for a couple to live quite comfortably on less than $2,000 a month.

Belize is currently open to international travel, with some COVID restrictions.

Roatan, Honduras

Roatán, one of the Bay Islands, has quietly graduated from secret divers’ getaway to a livable island haven. Just 50 square miles, this green, hilly island off Honduras’ northern coast is long and skinny, fringed by a reef rich with sea life and garnished by white-sand beaches.

The beaches here are quiet and pristine. Life is laidback, lived in rhythm with the sun and the surf. No big-name resorts. No «spring break» strips. No high-rise developments. This is old-school Caribbean…though fitted out with modern conveniences. And English is commonly spoken.

This is an island where «normal» people can buy a vacation home or permanent digs to live out their sunny, low-cost, and comfortable retirement. The infrastructure is good and getting better all the time, with a new power plant online and the recent opening of a hospital with specialist care and a 24-hour emergency room.

How much?

Less than $175,000 buys a two-bedroom Caribbean home right on the water in a quiet neighborhood with no tourists. Life on an island is often more expensive than mainland living—almost everything has to be imported, after all. But relative to the rest of the Caribbean, Roatán offers excellent value.

The monthly cost of living for a couple, including rent, is $2,000 to $2,500.

Roatan is currently open to international travel, with some COVID restrictions.

Isla Mujeres, Mexico

Isla Mujeres is about eight miles from Cancún in Mexico, but this laidback island is a world away from the hustle and bustle of its more tourist-developed older sister. Before Cancún existed, Mexicans and a few adventurous foreigners went to Isla Mujeres for some of the best beaches and water sports in the world—diving for coral, swimming with dolphins, and sailing on a crystal blue sea.

The island enjoys a warm tropical climate (low to mid-80s F for most of the year) and a laidback vibe; golf carts are preferred to cars as the main means of transport.

How much?

Clear, azure waters and white-sand beaches are never far away, and the cost of living is far lower than a similar lifestyle would cost back in the States. A one-bedroom, two-bathroom penthouse condo goes from $230,000, and a one-bedroom place rents for $700 to $1000 a month.

A couple can live a very nice life on Isla Mujeres for $2,500$3,000 a month, including rent.

Mexico is currently open to international travel, with some COVID restrictions.

Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic

Columbus knew he was on to something good when he spotted a beautiful, coral-rimmed island in 1492. «This is the fairest land under heaven,» the explorer is reported to have said.

The Dominican Republic has great weather and world-class beaches, not to mention a low cost of living and a stable government—plus it’s just three-and-a-half hours from New York.

The north coast of the island has some of the finest beaches in the Caribbean, the east coast is a sportsman’s paradise with some of the newest designer golf courses in the region.

This isn’t all-inclusive resort territory, and thanks to strict planning laws it should stay that way. The beach hotels here are small and family-run rather than sprawling, faceless chains.

The beaches around Las Terrenas are some of the most pristine in the Dominican Republic.

How much?

The most incredible thing about it, though, is the real estate prices. A one-bedroom, one-bathroom loft apartment can be had for as little as $92,000.

A couple can live in this tropical haven for around $2,000 a month, although most choose to spend closer to $3,000 a month.

The Dominican Republic is currently open to international travel, with some COVID restrictions.

Isla Colon, Panama

Not many people know that Panama has its own tropical archipelagos. Set on the Caribbean coast, close to the border with Costa Rica, Bocas del Toro is a group of nine main islands and a few hundred smaller cayos and islets, dotting calm turquoise waters.

The main hub is bustling Bocas Town, on the large island of Isla Colon, which sits below the hurricane belt. It’s a ramshackle seaside town of brightly painted buildings—many on stilts over the water. It’s the home base for most visitors and where the majority of expats live.

Bocas, as it is known, is all about water. Water sports, fishing, and whale watching are just some of the popular pastimes for locals. The small city is tourist driven but with a laidback feel.

How much?

Depending on the lifestyle expats choose, a couple can live here on as little $2,000 a month, renting a simple, snug, island-style home. Bocas is home to a great deal of untitled or right of possession (ROP) property. It’s best to rent and familiarize yourself with the unique landscape before contemplating a property purchase here.

Panama is currently open to international travel, with some COVID restrictions.

Two to Avoid…Because Costs Are High

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

Located in the Caribbean, the U.S. Virgin Islands is made up of over 60 islands…most of them uninhabited. The three most populated, and most visited, are St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix. The U.S. Virgin Islands are an organized, unincorporated United States territory and their people are U.S. citizens.

St. Thomas is the island on which most of the population of the U.S. Virgin Island lives. It is also the most commercialized of the islands and a regular stopping off point for Caribbean cruise ships. This 30-square-mile island has jungle cliffs that soar high into the sky and the turquoise sea is dotted with yachts of all shapes and sizes. St. Thomas, and in particular the capital of Charlotte Amalie, can get overrun by tourists.

While St. Thomas may be a nice place to live, apartments rent for about $2,000 a month, and to buy a two-bedroom house in a good neighborhood will cost about $285,000-plus.

Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas

What do Nicolas Cage, Johnny Depp, Oprah Winfrey, Sean Connery, Bill Gates, and Tiger Woods have in common? Apart from being celebrities, they’re among thousands of North Americans and Europeans who own second homes in the Bahamas.

Like other expats who live there for all or part of the year, these stars often think of the Bahamas as a paradise—an upscale group of islands with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The Bahamas are friendly to newcomers, there’s no foreign language to cope with, crime is relatively low, and the islands are positioned just off the Florida coast.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that property on the islands usually isn’t cheap. Medium-size residences in exclusive gated communities with ocean views often cost more than $2 million.

Grand Bahama Island has become a haven for beach-lovers as well as divers, fishermen, golfers, and sports enthusiasts of all kinds. It’s also a prime destination for people who enjoy world-class shopping. But living here costs a premium as it’s between 30% and 50% more expensive than in the U.S.

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 10, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Texas ranked second in the nation for relocation activity in 2019, according to the 2021 edition of the Texas Relocation Report released today by Texas Realtors, which analyzes the latest available migration data from the U.S. Census Bureau and U-Haul.

«Once again, Texas welcomed more than half a million new residents from other states,» said Marvin Jolly, 2021 chairman of Texas Realtors. «Some move here for a lower cost of living than where they’re from, a great quality of life, diverse job opportunities, good weather—there are many reasons people continue coming to Texas

According to the Census estimates, Texas welcomed 537,000 – 582,000 new residents in 2019. This is the seventh year in a row that Texas attracted more than 500,000 new residents from out of state. The Census also estimated 435,000 – 471,000 Texans moved to other states, yielding a net gain of approximately 100,000 people. The Lone Star State also welcomed approximately 192,000 – 222,000 new residents from outside the United States in 2019.

The highest number of new Texans from other U.S. states relocated from California and Florida, respectively. Other top states for people moving to Texas included Louisiana, Illinois, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Georgia and Arizona.

California ranked first in the United States for the number of residents moving out of state in 2019, with Texas coming in second. The most popular out-of-state relocation destinations for people moving out of Texas included California, Colorado, Oklahoma, Florida and Georgia. While California was the top state new Texans moved from and existing Texans moved to, about double the number of Californians moved to Texas compared to the migration of Texans to California.

From 2014 to 2018, the top counties for people moving to Texas from out of state included Harris, Dallas, Tarrant, Bexar and Travis. On the metropolitan statistical area (MSA) level, the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington MSA and Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land MSA recorded the highest number of incoming residents from out-of-state during the same time frame.

«Though we don’t have 2020 relocation statistics yet, increased remote-work opportunities and company relocations continued to fuel moves from other states to Texas during the pandemic,» said Jolly. «No matter what part of the state these new residents are moving to, no one is better positioned to help them realize their real estate dreams than a Texas Realtor,» he said.
