Speaking during a video conference organized by Invest Cyprus, alongside the Cyprus Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides and Finance Minister Constantinos Petrides and, the US Ambassador Judith Garber called on US investors to explore business opportunities in Cyprus, saying the US was working with the Republic on an ‘action plan’ to enhance bilateral trade.

El presidente chino Xi Jinping, también secretario general del Comité Central del Partido Comunista de China (CPC), visitó el miércoles el condado de Qianxi en la provincia de Guizhou al suroeste de China, previo al año nuevo chino.

El 12 de febrero es el inicio del Año Nuevo Lunar chino. En todo el país se realizan diferentes actividades tradicionales para dar la bienvenida al Año Nuevo.

En la plaza pública de la aldea de Huawu en un municipio étnico de Miao, Xi habló con los aldeanos que participaban en actividades festivas y extendió los saludos de Año Nuevo a las personas de todos los grupos étnicos del país.

Un modelo de mitigación de la pobreza 

Guizhou, que solía ser una región a nivel provincial con la mayor población de personas pobres, ha sacado de la pobreza a más de 9 millones de personas desde 2012, con un producto interno bruto (PIB) que ascendió a CNY 1,78 billones (USD 276.000 millones) en 2020.

En la tarde del miércoles, Xi visitó el condado de Qianxi, ciudad de Bijie, donde inspeccionó el ambiente ecológico de un importante afluente del río Wujiang y visitó a los residentes locales en la aldea de Huawu.

La aldea es un ejemplo del esfuerzo masivo que adelanta el país para mitigar la pobreza. Fue sacada de la pobreza en 2019.

Bijie, enclavada en lo profundo de las montañas cársticas de Guizhou, solía ser una de las ciudades más empobrecidas de China.

Con el respaldo del gobierno central y de otros órganos estatales, la ciudad empezó a cultivar la tierra, convirtiendo áridas montañas en verdes exuberantes.

Luego, bajo la orientación de expertos, los aldeanos comenzaron a desarrollar la agricultura, la ganadería y el turismo rural.

Bijie convirtió la lucha con la naturaleza en resultados ganar ganar, y pudo levantarse de la línea de pobreza.

El presidente Xi denominó la historia de éxito de Bijie como «un modelo del impulso de alivio de la pobreza de China«.

Una gran victoria 

En medio de la COVID-19, China ha cumplido con sus tareas para ganar la batalla contra la pobreza, y cumplió el objetivo de mitigación de la pobreza de la ONU 10 años antes de lo previsto.

Durante ocho años de trabajo sostenido, China ha logrado sacar del estándar actual de pobreza a toda la población rural, siendo casi 100 millones las personas beneficiadas.

China ha eliminado a todos los condados pobres de la lista de pobreza, y ha erradicado la pobreza absoluta y la pobreza regional.

La mitigación de la pobreza siempre ha sido una preocupación principal para el presidente Xi, quien reiteró que «no se debe dejar atrás a ninguna zona o persona pobre».
