VANCOUVER, BC, Feb. 16, 2021 /PRNewswire/ – NEXE Innovations Inc. (TSXV: NEXE) («NEXE» or the «Company»), a leader in innovative plant-based materials science and manufacturing technologies, has begun the development and prototyping of a compostable disposable facemask (the «NEXE Mask») in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In developing the NEXE Mask, NEXE will leverage existing collaborations in polymer science, plant-based materials, and municipal composting that were utilized for its NEXE pod. To support this goal, NEXE has also initiated new collaborations with leaders in healthcare and personal protective equipment (PPE).

NEXE has developed initial prototypes and will focus on creating a fully functional compostable disposable facemask that meets international healthcare standards in the coming months. The space required for manufacturing can be easily accommodated in NEXE’s newly expanded production facility, and several new hires in engineering roles are anticipated as part of the project. The Company aims to complete a functional prototype in 2021.  With funds raised under the December 2020 financing and received under warrant exercises, NEXE has sufficient funds to complete the development of the NEXE Mask.

It is estimated that more than 100 billion facemasks1 are currently being disposed of every month as the COVID-19 pandemic rages. The vast majority of these are made from non-compostable polypropylene, requiring decades or centuries to break down and leaving microplastic pollution behind. While they are a key tool in the fight against COVID-19, these disposable masks also create significant landfill waste or contaminate lakes, rivers, oceans, and soils. The global market for disposable masks exceeded $70 billion USD in 20202, more than double the size of the market for single-serve beverage pods.

Vodafone has successfully used new precision positioning technology to remotely track a vehicle to within just 10 centimetres of its location, an improvement of more than three metres compared with current standard satellite based systems.  It did this in partnership with leading global positioning provider Sapcorda, using Vodafone’s global Internet of Things (IoT) platform – the largest in the world with 118 million connections.

Pinpoint accuracy is critical to the acceptance and mass adoption of autonomous vehicles not just on the road but in factories, airports, dockyards and any site where machines are in motion. A matter of centimetres could be crucial to ensuring the safety of passengers on a driverless bus, or knowing the precise location of a medical drone. It will also allow an autonomous truck to mind other road users, including cyclists, whose e-bikes can automatically transmit their position and intended direction of travel.

The new precise positioning service is another example of how Vodafone is redefining its network and technology on a ‘Telco as a Service’ (TaaS) model. By identifying key network capabilities, and making them available through common APIs in a cloud platform, Vodafone is delivering new software, video and data applications at scale, in addition to gigabit-capable connectivity.

Vodafone believes that large enterprises will benefit hugely from these new technologies. For example, they will be better able to locate critical assets, precisely align machines such as driverless trains at platforms and let farmers, airports, and fleet operators know the exact whereabouts of their autonomous vehicles, buggies and cars at any given time.

Vodafone IoT-enabled vehicles, machinery and devices, when linked with Sapcorda’s comprehensive network of Global Navigation System Service (GNSS) receivers and augmentation technology, improves location accuracy by correcting for things like the curvature of the earth, atmospheric delays and clock differences of global positioning satellites. This offers corporations hyper-precise positioning which they can utilise to ensure a safe environment for their employees, their customers, the public and their machines.

Friends of Science says death rates from heat and extreme weather events have declined by 99% since the 1920s while global temperatures have increased 1.0 °C. Cato Institute’s article reported on this study by Gasparrini et al (2015) that examined 74 million deaths worldwide and found that the ratio of cold-related to heat-related deaths was a whopping 17 to 1. Warming therefore would greatly reduce temperature related deaths.

As Pielke, Jr. has noted, in his article «The Unstoppable Momentum of Outdated Science«, peak carbon was likely reached in 2019.

Bjorn Lomborg has shown in his book «False Alarm: How Climate Change Panic Costs Us Trillions, Hurts the Poor, and Fails to Fix the Planet» that climate-related deaths have steadily decreased.

A recent modelling study in The Lancet of Feb. 2021, claimed millions of lives would be saved if countries were to meet the Paris Agreement targets. It seems the authors are unaware that if every country met its Paris GHG reduction targets, as Bjorn Lomborg shows, there would only be a 0.05° Celsius reduction in warming by 2100 but it would cost $1-2 trillion a year for no benefit.

Mark Carney is also Vice Chair of Brookfield Asset Management, a major investor in renewables, and he has been advising Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. This suggests a serious conflict of interest and undue influence on the issue of carbon taxes.

According to Brookfield’s CFO in a transcript of their 4th quarter results conference call of Feb. 4, 2021, posted by The Motley Fool, «As examples, the current U.S. administration has reestablished a working group that is expected to increase the social cost of carbon to more than $50 per ton. And in Canada, a carbon tax has been set at $30 per ton for 2020 and is set to increase almost 6x to $170 by 2030. Carbon taxes or carbon pricing provide long-term support for growing wind and solar capacity…»

Wind and solar are «powered» by unwitting taxpayer subsidies through carbon taxes as outlined by Robert Lyman in his three part series on renewables and cleantech – «Broken Promises«, «Empty Wallets«, and «Empty Pockets«.

Mark Carney, in chatting with Bloomberg, is pushing Global NetZero for COP26 in Glasgow, an objective that is not supported by climate evidence or engineering realities: «Why Renewable Energy Cannot Replace Fossil Fuels by 2050«.

Meanwhile, a new paper by Fiedler et al in Nature entitled «Business risk and the emergence of climate analytics» explains the significant limitations on the climate disclosure and forecasting that Mark Carney wants from the corporate community to «unleash investment».

Fiedler et al note that climate models have been misused and that the numerical precision of climate modelling can be very deceptive.

«People can be easily taken in by the apparent precision of numbers,» economist Ross McKitrick said in a 2015 series of plain language interviews on the Social Cost of Carbon.

Fiedler et al express concerns about a false sense of security engendered by [climate] modeled forecasts, the risks of encouraging capital to withdraw from areas assessed as ‘risky’, that under an alternative modelling specification would have been ‘safe’, or that vulnerabilities might be ‘weaponized’.

The new precise positioning service is another example of how Vodafone is redefining its network and technology on a ‘Telco as a Service’ (TaaS) model. By identifying key network capabilities, and making them available through common APIs in a cloud platform, Vodafone is delivering new software, video and data applications at scale, in addition to gigabit-capable connectivity.

Vodafone believes that large enterprises will benefit hugely from these new technologies. For example, they will be better able to locate critical assets, precisely align machines such as driverless trains at platforms and let farmers, airports, and fleet operators know the exact whereabouts of their autonomous vehicles, buggies and cars at any given time.

Vodafone IoT-enabled vehicles, machinery and devices, when linked with Sapcorda’s comprehensive network of Global Navigation System Service (GNSS) receivers and augmentation technology, improves location accuracy by correcting for things like the curvature of the earth, atmospheric delays and clock differences of global positioning satellites. This offers corporations hyper-precise positioning which they can utilise to ensure a safe environment for their employees, their customers, the public and their machines.

Combined with video and on-board diagnostics, the technology will also allow vehicle operators to carry out accurate location sensitive remote inspections and even pause machines such as grass cutters on public footpaths when they encounter people.
