Post-Pandemic Workplace: Bright, Light, and Plant Filled, New White Paper Finds

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 27, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The vast majority of employers want people back together at work once the coronavirus pandemic is brought under control. Will employees who’ve become used to a remote workplace comply?

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 27, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The vast majority of employers want people back together at work once the coronavirus pandemic is brought under control. Will employees who’ve become used to a remote workplace comply?

A new 2021 white paper released today from the nationwide Silverado Roundtable, The Nature of the Post-Pandemic Workplace, advises U.S. employers to embrace workplace design focused on creating a collaborative culture to remain competitive and retain its top talent.

«Especially for Millennial and Gen Z employees, we learned in 2020 work is a ‘thing,’ not a ‘place’ for most office based employees. Work is something you do and not a place where you go,« said Jim Mumford, owner of Good Earth Plant Company in San Diego, California.

«The great redesign of the modern American office is underway. Designers are working not only with high-tech firms, but traditional corporate clients to create fresh collaborative spaces to motivate and welcome employees on their return,» said Shane Pliska of Detroit based Planterra Corporation

Key findings from The Nature of the Post-Pandemic Workplace:

  • Just one in five remote workers said they wanted to go back to an office full-time.
  • One-third of office workers say the design of an office would affect their decision to accept a job offer.
  • Top items desired in office space by employees: Natural light, live indoor plants, and quiet working space.
  • Healthy workplaces are no longer negotiable. Access to fresh air, natural light, adequate personal space, and cleanliness affect the perception of safety.
  • Creating a nature-based environment with plants and natural materials is essential to post-pandemic business survival.
  • One month of workplace greenery maintenance costs less than buying lunch for employees once a month

According to the World Health Organization, 19% of factors affecting our health and wellbeing are directly related to the built environment, making architects and designers key to protecting public health.

Design professionals have a once in a lifetime opportunity to advance current thinking about the optimal work environment. The Silverado Roundtable, composed of America’s top workplace greenery design and installation experts, examines these economic and design challenges, and explores the human behavior and response behind the issues in their white paper based on recently post-COVID-19 survey data and expert interviews.

It offers answers architects, interior designers, and human resources leaders can incorporate and implement to give their clients the ability to productively and profitably use their commercial space and push back the pandemic threat to their livelihoods.

As valued talent returns, they will demand surroundings serving their needs at least as well as their home workspaces do. They want assurances they will be safe.

Competition will emerge for these top employees as unemployment rates rebound. Employers will need to make the case in large part through the working environment they create.

«In our experience, a well-designed space with natural elements makes it easier to recruit talented employees and can better provide those employees with a workplace that is energy lifting, instead of energy zapping,» said Edward McDonnell, owner of Botanical Designs in Seattle, Washington.

Workplaces built to maximize space efficiency are no longer desirable. The reconsidered workplace will foster collaboration and communication in environments with a focus on creativity and inspiration in a healthier way. Companies must cultivate their culture, creating a place where people want to gather and work together to contribute to a greater purpose.

  • Diabetes — Using data from 2013 to 2016, 15.1% of male Hispanics and 14.1% of females have diagnosed diabetes.3
  • Obesity — 80.8% of males and 77.8% of females were overweight or obese (vs 69.9% of adults over age of 20)4

These statistics, among others, highlight the need to provide culturally and linguistically relevant primary care health services to minorities and underserved communities, including migrants, to help prevent and manage these chronic conditions.

Hoy Health, a digital health company, is using its innovative primary care platform to provide access to affordable, quality and linguistically relevant primary care services to underserved communities and is incorporating American Heart Association science-based health management plans, called CarePlans.

The American Heart Association has defined ideal cardiovascular health based on seven risk factors, Life’s Simple 7®, that people can improve through lifestyle changes: smoking status, physical activity, weight, diet, blood glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure. The Association’s CarePlans present actions people can take to improve their Life’s Simple 7 factors and are designed so that any person can work toward improved health. The actions are not expensive or difficult and even modest improvements to these factors can make a big difference.

«The Center aims to expand usage of the Associations science-based CarePlans, so it’s incredibly encouraging to see Hoy Health leveraging best-in-class science from the American Heart Association with the aim of improving health education and health engagement,» said Patrick Wayte, senior vice president of the American Heart Association Center for Health Technology & Innovation.

Hoy Health has joined the American Heart Association Center for Health Technology and Innovation Innovators’ Network, which is focused on building and fostering health technology relationships to develop innovative and scalable solutions.

«We are very proud of our collaboration with the American Heart Association Center. This is a critical step to provide a more robust, stronger, and evidence-based offering to all our patients that we hope will result in better outcomes for the communities we serve,» said Mario Anglada, CEO of Hoy Health

CARFAX: You Must Still Maintain Your Car, Even If You’re Driving Less

CENTREVILLE, Va., Jan. 27, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Because millions of Americans are staying home more often during the pandemic, their cars may be spending less time on the road. In fact, CARFAX data shows people are driving an average of almost 2,000 miles less a year than they normally would in the time since COVID travel restrictions were enacted. Driving less doesn’t mean a vehicle no longer needs maintenance, though: Even if the odometer isn’t moving much, the clock is still ticking on a car’s maintenance schedule.

«Automakers base their recommended service intervals on time or mileage, whichever comes first,» said Paul Nadjarian, General Manager of CARFAX Car Care. «Even though you might not be racking up any mileage, it’s smart to keep the time limits in mind. A well-maintained vehicle will last longer, cause you fewer issues down the road, and is worth more when it comes time to sell or trade it in.»

The best practice is to drive a car at least once a week for several miles to get all the fluids flowing and to allow the engine, transmission, and brakes to get the kind of regular use that will keep them working properly.

These are important tasks that should be performed regardless of how many miles are driven each year:

  • Oil changes: Change the oil at least once a year, even if it’s synthetic oil that the manufacturer says is good for 10,000 miles. Look at the maintenance schedule; it will probably say «or once a year.» Oil deteriorates over time from oxidation, heat and moisture. It can’t lubricate and protect an engine as well as fresh oil.
  • Tire rotation: It’s a good idea to have the tires rotated at the same time you get your oil changed. It may seem like overkill if you’re only driving 4,000 miles per year, but most vehicles today have front-wheel drive. That means a higher percentage of the car’s weight is resting on the front tires than on an all-wheel drive vehicle, and if a car is sitting, that can cause flat spots on the front tires.
  • Tire air pressure: Tires gradually lose pressure over time. Check their levels at least once a month to insure they don’t develop flat spots. It’s important: Under-inflated tires have lower load-carrying capacity and wear faster.

United Makes Hawaii Travel Easier with Expanded COVID Testing and Pre-Clearance Program

CHICAGO, Jan. 27, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Beginning February 1, United customers traveling to Hawaii who have a valid negative COVID-19 test can show their results before boarding to save time and skip document screening lines upon arrival. The new pre-clearance process will be in place for customers traveling on 110 of United’s weekly flights to Hawaii.

United is also making it easier to get the right tests to avoid Hawaii’s 14-day quarantine by making approved COVID-19 tests available to all customers traveling to the islands no matter where in the U.S. their travel begins.

«We’re making it easier for customers traveling to Hawaii to spend more time enjoying their trip and less time waiting in lines,» said Toby Enqvist, chief customer officer at United. «Testing is the key to opening domestic and international travel so we’ll continue to lead the way in rolling out solutions that are simple and safe so our customers have what they need when they take their next trip with us.»

To begin the pre-clearance program, customers will enroll in Hawaii’s Safe Travels program and complete Hawaii’s COVID-19 questionnaire within 24 hours from departure. Next, customers will use the Safe Travels website to upload their negative test results from one of Hawaii’s trusted testing partners which must be taken within 72 hours of their departure. At the airport, customers will see a United team member at the gate for their flight to Hawaii where they will receive a wristband if they qualify to bypass airport screening in Hawaii. Customers who have been pre-cleared will be able to skip test screenings in Hawaii and begin their trip as soon as they land.

For images of United’s pre-clearance program click here.

United is also making it easier for customers to obtain approved COVID-19 test options with the expansion of mail-in tests to customers no matter where in the U.S. their travel originates. The airline will notify customers in advance of their Hawaii trip to let them know what testing options they have locally. Last year, United also teamed up with XpresCheck to open additional same-day testing facilities for United customers in select airports. XpresCheck currently has locations open in United’s Denver terminal, and expects to open additional locations in United’s terminals in Houston and Newark in the coming weeks. Customers who choose to take a test with XpresCheck can schedule an appointment online for a rapid molecular test on the same day as their travel. Walk up appointments are also available on a first come, first served basis.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, United made numerous enhancements to its business that improve the travel experience and make the airline a better company. Earlier this week, United announced a new Travel-Ready Center in the United app and online where customers can review COVID-19 travel requirements, find local testing options and upload any testing and vaccination records that their destinations requires. This year, United also began allowing all customers to fly standby on another flight to the same destination on the same day for free, and all MileagePlus® Premier® members now confirm a new flight on the same day to the same destinations at check-in when space is available in the same fare class. Last year, the carrier eliminated most change fees, pledged to reduce its greenhouse gases 100% by 2050, and as a part of its United CleanPlus℠ program, teamed up with Clorox and the Cleveland Clinic to guide its cleaning and safety protocols. Last spring, United extended MileagePlus Premier status to all customers through January 2022 and made earning status for the next two years easier for all MileagePlus members.

ALYI Previews Democratized Electric Vehicle Ecosystem Collaborations

DALLAS, Jan. 27, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Alternet Systems, Inc. (USOTC: ALYI) today offered further insight into the company’s cryptocurrency backed, democratized electric vehicle ecosystem strategy and anticipated ecosystem partner collaborations.

DALLAS, Jan. 27, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Alternet Systems, Inc. (USOTC: ALYI) today offered further insight into the company’s cryptocurrency backed, democratized electric vehicle ecosystem strategy and anticipated ecosystem partner collaborations.

Alternet Systems

ALYI’s Revolt Electric Motorcycle is only a small part of the company’s comprehensive strategy to build a far-reaching electric vehicle ecosystem.

The success of any electric vehicle will depend on the simultaneous availability of an entire network of solutions necessary to support the electric vehicle.

For example, the electric vehicle support network ranges from the availability of power, to charging stations where power can be accessed, to long-range batteries to make electric vehicles efficient modes of transportation, to connectivity so software updates for motor synchronization and battery optimization applications can be continuously updated along with other electric vehicle user support applications.

This list represents only a handful of the network nodes that must be available within the electric vehicle ecosystem to insure the viability of any electric vehicle as a dependable mode of transportation. The most important ecosystem component is a continuous design and integration function.

Clean Future

The electric vehicle ecosystem is being discussed by virtually everyone in the electric vehicle industry to include General Motors, Tesla and even Deloitte.

While the rest of the industry discusses the electric vehicle ecosystem necessary to support their electric vehicle strategy, ALYI is focused primarily on its electric vehicle ecosystem strategy out of which electric vehicles will be just one component.  We like to think we’ve got the horse before the cart.

We have focused our efforts on the cleanest transportation slate possible.  ALYI is building its electric vehicle ecosystem in a region with one of the lowest per capita transportation ratios in the world, Sub Saharan Africa.  That is not to say that our electric vehicle ecosystem innovations will not be applicable all over the world.

ALYI has seeded its electric vehicle ecosystem strategy with the Revolt Electric Motorcycle. Now ALYI has launched an effort to build partnerships to establish collaborators in ALYI’s electric vehicle ecosystem where each collaborator brings specific, industry leading expertise.

To both attract industry leading collaboration talent and provide an opportunity to prove their innovations, ALYI is launching an annual electric vehicle race in partnership with a brand name racing organization.  The annual race event will be hosted simultaneously with an electric mobility symposium and expo.

ALYI is setting itself apart from the rest of the electric vehicle industry not only through its horse before the cart electric vehicle ecosystem strategy, but also through its commitment to democratize the electric vehicle ecosystem.

RevoltTOKEN.com

ALYI’s financing partner and electric vehicle ecosystem collaborator, RevoltTOKEN, has already provided key funding to advance ALYI’s business plan to its current stage.  RevoltTOKEN plans to democratize the ALYI electric vehicle ecosystem through the introduction of a dedicated cryptocurrency that will offer holders a participation opportunity in the ecosystem.  RevoltTOKEN, the business entity, plans to offer RevoltTOKENs, a cryptocurrency, through an Initial Coin Offering (ICO).

Next week, we plan to publish a more detailed presentation on our comprehensive electric vehicle ecosystem strategy.  Starting now, we anticipate beginning to announce electric vehicle collaboration partnerships.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Jan. 27, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — SmartRent, a provider of smart home automation for property owners, managers, developers and residents, today announced a partnership with Edward Rose & Sons to install SmartRent smart home solutions across its portfolio of 66,000, and growing, apartment homes. The company, which develops and operates properties throughout the Midwest, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, will implement the solutions in both its existing communities and all future developments.

«Our communities are long-term investments, so we needed a true business partner to help us implement smart home technology across our portfolio,» said Jason Kessler, COO of Edward Rose & Sons. «It was important to us to work with a company that specialized in multifamily solutions, offered the right technology platforms, integrated with our property management software and provided the support and guidance needed for a successful rollout. SmartRent met all of these requirements.»

Edward Rose is focused on installing SmartRent’s smart home platform that includes hub locks and thermostats. By meeting the demand for in-unit technology, the platform, which connects to a resident’s favorite voice assistant, helps operators drive lead-to-lease conversions, retain residents and boost NOI.

«Typically, smart home technology is associated with new urban-core high-rise developments. Having the opportunity to bring these smart features to suburbs and rural neighborhoods opens up a door for us to differentiate ourselves in the market,» Kessler said. «If we can improve our residents’ quality of life with smart home features, our resident retention increases and our operational costs decrease with less turnover, less advertising and marketing and reduced vacancy loss. In addition, smart home technology enables our team members to work more efficiently, allowing them to devote additional time and resources on improving the resident experience. The benefits are truly significant and wide-ranging.»

SmartRent’s smart home automation solution equips residents with one robust app that provides complete control and remote management of their devices and home settings. When a resident moves out, site staff can easily transfer the apartment or home from occupied to vacant, triggering a succession of automated actions. Communities can create their ideal «Vacant Mode» automations to have access codes removed from locks, work orders created for turn requests and energy saving modes activated, like having the thermostat temperature adjusted and lights switched off.

«We could not be more excited to begin this partnership with Edward Rose,» said Demetrios Barnes, COO of SmartRent. «It was immediately obvious how dedicated they are to adopting solutions that offer truly outstanding experiences and efficiencies for both their residents and their associates. We are honored they have chosen to partner with us to make those experiences and efficiencies happen.»

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan. 27, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — BorgWarner Inc. today announced that it is one of 380 companies across 11 sectors included in the 2021 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI). The GEI expanded in 2021 to represent 44 countries and regions, including firms headquartered in Indonesia and Bermuda for the first time. Companies range from a variety of industries, including automotive, banking, consumer services, engineering and construction, and retail.

«We are proud of the significant headway we have made to ensure we’re cultivating a diverse, unbiased workforce, and honored to once again be included in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index among so many other highly respected companies,» said Felecia Pryor, Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, BorgWarner Inc. «We are not finished in our pursuit of a workplace that embraces gender equality. At BorgWarner, we have the passion, drive and energy to continue diversifying our talent pool and nurture an inclusive culture that affords everyone equal opportunity to grow and thrive.»

The GEI brings transparency to gender-related practices and policies at publicly listed companies increasing the breadth of environmental, social, governance (ESG) data available to investors. The comprehensive, transparent GEI scoring methodology allows investors to assess company performance and compare across industry peer groups.

The reference index measures gender equality across five pillars: female leadership and talent pipeline, equal pay and gender pay parity, inclusive culture, sexual harassment policies, and pro-women brand.

The 2020 GEI included 325 companies headquartered across 42 countries and regions. BorgWarner Inc. was also included in the 2020 GEI.

«The companies included in the 2021 GEI are expanding the ESG data universe to include gender-related data that investors are demanding today,» said Peter T. Grauer, Chairman of Bloomberg. «Their commitment to disclosure is making the business case for inclusion, and driving transparency in the markets.»

Through disclosure of gender-related metrics using the GEI framework, the firms included in the 2021 GEI have committed to provide a comprehensive look at their investment in workplace gender equality and the communities in which they operate, raising the bar of what should be expected from other companies within the same industry. BorgWarner Inc. was included in this year’s index for scoring at or above a global threshold established by Bloomberg to reflect a high level of disclosure and overall performance across the framework’s five pillars.

Both the framework and the GEI are voluntary and have no associated costs. The GEI is a reference index and is not for use as a financial benchmark. The index is not ranked. While all public companies are encouraged to disclose supplemental gender data for their company’s investment profile on the Bloomberg Terminal, those that have a market capitalization of USD1 billion are eligible for inclusion in the index. IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 27, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Board of Trustees of the Mazda Foundation (USA) Inc., has awarded $450,000 to four organizations as part of the foundation’s yearly grant giving. The grants will serve communities in Southern California and the greater Huntsville, Alabama, area.

Grants were awarded to Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County (Irvine, CA), the Food Bank of North Alabama (Huntsville, AL), FUSE Studio (funding a program in Southern California), and AVID Center (funding a program in Madison, AL).

The awards follow the Mazda Foundation’s guiding principle that what matters most is one another. Together, they seek to address not only the result of poverty, but also some of its many causes.

«The awards we’re announcing today address challenges that too many Americans face,» said Jeff Guyton, president of Mazda North American Operations and chairman of the Mazda Foundation (USA), Inc. «Those challenges range from basic food security to equal access to the building blocks of education. Everyone needs these fundamentals in order to thrive.»

The grants to the food banks aim to increase the delivery of food to families in need at a time that demand has skyrocketed, with recent estimates placing that increase at +60% since March 2020. The award to FUSE will fund STEM coursework for several underserved middle schools, and the award to AVID will ensure underserved students have the opportunity not only to be admitted to college, but to succeed once they arrive.
