Chiefs, Packers Predictably Big Home Favorites in NFL’s Divisional Round, According to TheLines

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 11, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Home teams have dominated the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs, so it’s no surprise that the NFL’s two best teams over the course of the 2020-21 season are significant favorites heading into this weekend’s playoff games, according to TheLines, which tracks odds in the U.S. regulated sports…

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 11, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Home teams have dominated the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs, so it’s no surprise that the NFL’s two best teams over the course of the 2020-21 season are significant favorites heading into this weekend’s playoff games, according to TheLines, which tracks odds in the U.S. regulated sports betting market.

In the last 13 years, home teams in the Divisional Round are 36-16 straight up, including 3-1 last season. That’s good news for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers, who both find themselves a touchdown or better favorites this weekend, as well as the Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints.

Bettors, though, will have to be more diligent in deciding their picks. Underdogs are 27-24-1 against the spread over the last 13 years, even as favorites have gone 3-1 in each of the last two seasons. The Chiefs enter their game with the upstart Cleveland Browns as 10-point home favorites, while the Packers stand as 7-point favorites against the visiting Los Angeles Rams according to a consensus of the nation’s largest legal online sportsbooks — including DraftKings, FanDuel, PointsBet, PlaySugarHouse, BetMGM, Unibet, and William Hill. While the Bills and Saints enter the week as much narrower favorites.

«Unlike in the Wild Card round, the home teams in the Divisional Round are historically the best teams in the NFL that season,» said Brett Collson, lead analyst for TheLines.com. «Even with the new playoff structure, the top four seeds will host this weekend. But picking a home favorite is never automatic, especially as the quality of teams improve as teams advance in the playoffs.»

The consensus point spreads for Divisional Round games, as of Monday, Jan. 11:

  • Los Angeles Rams at Green Bay Packers (-7); over/under 46
  • Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo Bills (-2.5); over/under 50
  • Cleveland Browns at Kansas City Chiefs (-10); over/under 55.5
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints (-3); over/under 51.5

The current odds for remaining playoff teams to win Super Bowl LV as of Monday, Jan. 11 (with preseason odds):

  • Kansas City Chiefs +200 (+600)
  • Green Bay Packers +400 (+3100)
  • Buffalo Bills +600 (+2500)
  • New Orleans Saints +600 (+1200)
  • Baltimore Ravens +800 (+650)
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers +900 (+1500)
  • Los Angeles Rams +2000 (+4000)
  • Cleveland Browns +2800 (+3400)

BOSTON, Jan. 11, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Electricity generation from renewable energies is growing on a daily basis and, to integrate their variable nature, energy storage systems are growing in parallel. IDTechEx have investigated the evolution of the energy storage market, forecasting its growth in the next ten years, in the new report: «Batteries for Stationary Energy Storage 2021-2031«.

IDTechEx’s forecasted battery installation breakdown by application. Source: IDTechEx, “Batteries for Stationary Energy Storage 2021-2031”

The evolving energy storage market is separated into two branches, Front-of-Meter (FTM) and Behind-the-Meter (BTM). The FTM sector is related to the operation of the electricity infrastructure; therefore, batteries are employed to maintain a smooth and continuous flow of electricity to the consumers. The BTM market instead is the customer side of the market; hence batteries are used by consumers to decrease electricity costs mainly.

The services provided by the batteries are similar most of the time, although on a different scale.

The report «Batteries for Stationary Energy Storage 2021-2031» aims to provide the reader with a clear picture of the current status of the development of these two branches in the main countries currently adopting battery storage systems.

The future adoption of green policies will drive the adoption of renewable energies in both segments of the market, although other parameters like grid infrastructure and the energy sources adopted by countries (e.g. nuclear, coal, and lignite power plant) will play an important role in the adoption of energy storage systems.

To better understand the future evolution of the energy storage market, IDTechEx performed an in-depth analysis of the main countries adopting energy storage systems (including the U.S., China, Japan, Australia, Germany, and others), investigating the latest policies in terms of renewable energy and energy storage, as well as interviewing leader companies in the field of energy storage, to understand the market approach and the possible effect of COVID-19.

The result of this analysis shows a similar but different scenario among the investigated countries. The renewable energy target, with the current status of the grid infrastructure, in consideration of the different types of energy sources adopted by the country, defined a specific scenario for every country. As well as the differences, a clear point has been identified: the stationary storage market is only in its early stages, from both technical and policy aspects.

Blue Shield of California Expands Collaboration with Dignity Health Hospitals to Make Billing and Payment Easier for Patients, Providers

OAKLAND, Calif., Jan. 11, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Blue Shield of California announced the expansion across California of its innovative program designed to transform the medical payment system into a simple, transparent, and more immediate, retail-like experience for patients and medical providers.

OAKLAND, Calif., Jan. 11, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Blue Shield of California announced the expansion across California of its innovative program designed to transform the medical payment system into a simple, transparent, and more immediate, retail-like experience for patients and medical providers.

Blue Shield has teamed up with CommonSpirit Health (which operates Dignity Health hospitals) and software startup OODA Health to introduce the high-tech program. The group is buoyed by initial, positive results – the process makes cost share payments more streamlined, which resulted in a 92 percent satisfaction rate from patients who used it.

«Our goal is to make the medical billing process better so providers can focus on delivering care to patients that will improve their health and wellbeing,» said Shayna Schulz, senior vice president of transformation and operations at Blue Shield of California. «We are using the latest technologies and innovations to create a healthcare system that puts the people at the center of it. That is our mission as a nonprofit health plan: creating a healthcare system that is worthy of our family and friends, and sustainably affordable.»

The three organizations launched the «Member Payments» pilot program in September 2019 at two Dignity Health hospitals in Sacramento. The program, initially slated to run for 12 months, grew to include six hospitals by the end of that year.

Now, the program has expanded to 20 additional Dignity Health hospitals throughout California. For Blue Shield of California members who receive care at those facilities, they will experience a faster, more concise, and transparent billing process, including additional options on how they pay for their portion of the bill.

«We want to support our patients through the entirety of their medical journey so they can focus on their healing. This collaboration with Blue Shield of California and OODA does just that by using technology to make patient medical bills easier to understand,» said Steve Scharmann, vice president of revenue cycle at CommonSpirit Health. «An important part of caring for our patients is to ensure they have a seamless financial experience that is equal to the high-quality care they receive at our hospitals.»

The Member Payments program works this way:

  • Blue Shield of California members receive a consolidated, easy-to-read monthly medical bill from Blue Shield. The patient can choose a payment method for the amount owed – in full or in interest-free installments through their Flexible Spending Account card, credit card, check, or ACH direct deposit connection.
  • Participating healthcare providers receive help managing the financial responsibility owed by Blue Shield members, improving their financial performance, and reducing time spent on paperwork and tracking down unpaid bills.

As part of the collaboration, Blue Shield of California also has implemented new technologies to reduce manual processes and work more efficiently to help create a more consumer-friendly experience for members and providers.

Seth Cohen, co-CEO and co-founder of OODA Health, added, «We are honored to grow this collaboration to help even more patients navigate their medical bills, especially during this turbulent time. And we’re proud to streamline administration and drive tangible results for our collaborators. This expansion further proves how innovative collaboration can catalyze transformation in healthcare.»

The Member Payment program is a first step toward real-time claims settlement that will make medical billing and payment more immediate and simpler. The effort is part of Blue Shield of California’s Health Reimagined initiative, a comprehensive effort to transform the healthcare system for all.

Save Schaumburg Wetlands – Stop Experior Transport from destroying Schaumburg wetlands

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Jan.11, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Irving Park and Frontage Road in Schaumburg, IL, has 55 acres of wetland in agricultural use. Recently, residents have been informed that Village of Schaumburg entered into real estate contract with Experior Transport. They intend to build a gas station, trailer parking, warehouse, and truck and trailer repair station. It is said that this company also intends to erect a 140,000 square feet building for offices in addition to a parking lot for trucks.

By carrying out this massive development, property zoning will be altered. One resident stated that «the area we live in is unincorporated and is considered a residential area. The construction of this establishment would deprive our community of the very necessities that define a home, safety and comfort».

The air and the environs of Long Avenue in Schaumburg communities would now be at risk for air pollution. NCBI study show that air contamination levels are five to thirty times higher in gas stations located next to residential areas. Another study by Maher Soliman also detected that vehicle repair compounds could be possible cancer-causing agents because air pollution can occur from diesel engines idling for extended amounts of time, along with paint vapors and dust from vehicle body refinishing.

EPA study show that these types of material can settle on the establishment’s parking lots and other impervious surfaces and could stream down when it rains onto the residential properties close by. These polluting materials can exude harmful substances into people’s lungs, their land, and water.

Gas stations provide an abundance of air pollution. The California Air Resources Board’s publication Air Quality and Use Handbook: A Community Health Perspective recommends a minimum of 300-ft isolation between gas stations and other sensitive lands. Lands used for places of residence, schools, day-care centers, playgrounds, or medical facilities are all considered to be in the category of sensitive lands. California’s state is widely recognized as having some of the most effective air pollution control requirements in the nation. Considering this establishment’s proximity to Schaumburg residents, it must be moved elsewhere to meet this criterion.

Another resident stated that «Our community uses private well systems, and the chemicals from the underground tanks of gas could contaminate our water. We have already invested a lot of resources to keep our water clean. with a gas station, and a trucking station so close it will become more costly and more difficult to keep our water safe».

Vehicles driving in and being repaired may also provide discontent and damage to the hearing of these residents as air guns produce noise levels of 104 dBA, and if air chisels are used in body shops, they can emit 112 dBA. For every 3 dB above 85 dBA, the maximum exposure time is cut in half. This means that people cannot be exposed to its sound for protracted periods. People living next to to this massive development, exposed to these immense sound levels, may have challenges with their hearing.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that children have no exposure above 120 dB to protect their ears, and adults also need to be excessively wary. Considering that there are many children in this community, the noise will be both equally irritating and detrimental.

Another point to note is that the wetland is home to many animals. The benefit of wetland to animals is food and habitat for fish and wildlife. The residents also pointed out coyotes, owls, bats, deer, snakes, turtles, and all kinds of birds living in that area. If this land were to be destroyed, where would they go? They would become a threat to the community.

A lot of the homes in this area have been recently bought, because of the outdoor space, nature and quietness of the area. If these commercial facilities are built so close to residential area, the homes’ value will fall drastically, because it’s unhealthy and not ideal to live next to a commercial business that produces harmful pollution day and night.

This is an injustice that must be prevented, considering it will be an immense disturbance to the residents and the lives of the entire neighborhood. When purchasing a house, people expects to live in a calm and quiet area, where after a long day of work, you can finally relax and enjoy the peace of your home with your family. If this gas station is established, along with other facilities, it will affect Long Avenue neighborhoods negatively and all residents will no longer have pleasure in recreational lives. This proposed plan to build a commercial trucking station is not only unnecessary, but it will also be perilous and bothersome.

The residents of Schaumburg love their community and want nothing but to enjoy their surroundings. If this big commercial enterprise comes, their safe haven faces the possibility of becoming non-existent.
