AURORA, Coloroda, Dec. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Building on its successful work to develop opportunities for immigrants and refugees and expand the city’s international presence, the city of Aurora has unveiled a 10-year Immigrant Integration Plan, «Aurora is open to the world.»

As Colorado’s third-largest city and one of the most diverse large cities in the United States, Aurora created one of the nation’s first municipal strategic plans for immigrant integration in 2015 and remains the only Colorado city with a comprehensive strategic plan for immigrant integration. Aurora is updating that plan for the decade ahead based on what the city has learned so far and what residents and stakeholder groups have cited as priorities. The effort is led by the city’s Office of International and Immigrant Affairs.

«One in five Aurora residents was born outside the U.S., and we believe that the success of our residents, and therefore the success of our city, depends on how well we can work together,» said Ricardo Gambetta, head of Aurora’s Office of International and Immigrant Affairs. «Moving forward, our plan for 2020 to 2030 focuses on goals that capture community needs, with specific ideas for implementation.»

Among the 12 goal areas for 2020 to 2030 are entrepreneurism, affordable housing, job skills and certification, English language learning, language accessibility, public safety relationships, immigrant leadership, healthy lifestyles, citizenship pathways, and cultural inclusion. These goals build on the areas of focus in the 2015 strategic plan.

Some of the successes seen under the city’s first strategic plan on immigrant integration include:

  • Development of the award-winning Natural Helpers Program, which has trained more than 150 immigrants from 25 countries to be leaders in their communities and liaisons with local resources.
  • Formation of Aurora’s Immigrant and Refugee Commission, a group of residents to advise City Council on immigrant issues.
  • Expansion of English and citizenship classes with local partner agencies.
  • Creation of small-business grants and loans for immigrant entrepreneurs, resulting in the creation of 143 jobs.
  • Sponsorship of international trips and hosting of international delegations to promote business, cultural and political exchanges, resulting in the opening of a Salvadoran Consulate, the first consular office in Colorado outside of Denver.
  • Growth of health, cultural, arts and sports programs to build community cohesiveness, including Global Fest, Aurora’s flagship event for celebrating diversity, attracting 10,000 people a year.

«The partnerships we have created, the trust we have built, the ideas we have sparked – all of this requires our continued support and nurturing so we can be a city that helps all our residents dream big and achieve even more,» said Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman. «This updated strategic plan for the next 10 years sets the groundwork for how we will be an international business and cultural destination, a welcoming melting pot of people and experiences, and a city of opportunity for residents of all backgrounds.»

BRONX, N.Y., Dec. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The stress of COVID-19, quarantine and social distancing has tested many relationships. It has been especially challenging for parents whose children aren’t under the same roof.

Traci Maynigo, Psy.D., program director, Supporting Healthy Relationships and Supporting Responsible Fatherhood

A $15 million grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services will enable University Behavioral Associates at Montefiore Health System and Albert Einstein College of Medicine to create new programs to strengthen relationships between fathers and children who live apart. It will also fund Montefiore and Einstein’s existing Supporting Healthy Relationships program for couples with kids.

«Our relationship education programs teach practical skills that can be applied to any relationship,» said Scott Wetzler, Ph.D., professor and vice chair, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Montefiore and Einstein. «Unlike therapy, which focuses on longer-term behavioral changes, we concentrate on specific skills that can be learned, practiced, and mastered so people don’t feel stuck or make the same mistakes – they can break the cycle.»

Courses in the new Supporting Responsible Fatherhood program teach dads how to effectively co-parent and the best ways to support their children emotionally and financially. These skills are especially important during COVID-19 when families who live apart may spend less time together.

Montefiore and Einstein are also partnering with BronxWorks, a non-profit that works to improve economic and social well-being, to offer workshops that help fathers find and keep jobs. Data on family finances, relationship satisfaction, and skills learned by participants will be collected for research aiming to improve these metrics and test the value of virtual classes.

Montefiore and Einstein’s Supporting Healthy Relationships will continue its 14-year run of classes that focus on healthy communication, conflict resolution, and building trust for couples.

«Our workshops are like date nights—they are a rare opportunity to bond with other couples over the challenges we share in our relationships,» said Traci Maynigo, Psy.D., program director, Supporting Healthy Relationships and Supporting Responsible Fatherhood. «With social distancing and fewer in-person events with friends, our goal is to remind couples to, above all, value one another.»

Norberto Valdes’s new book Mas Allá del Llanto y del Dolor, a compelling account that instills philosophical insights on vindicating optimism amid trying times

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Dec. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The book Mas Allá del Llanto y del Dolor was created by Norberto Valdes. Norberto Valdes is an author and gang member from Torreón Coahuila, Mexico, with a passion was always literature, poetry, and especially philosophy.

Norberto said this about his book: «Given our apocalyptic times, it is difficult to maintain an optimistic position on life and the human condition. The real possibility of a nuclear holocaust, global warming, the unequaled economic growth, organized crime and cartels, especially Mexicans, mass murders, parricide, matricide, filicide, fratricide, incest of children and girls as well as baby abandonment make optimism almost impossible.

«If we ask the optimist the reason for his position, he will most likely shrug his shoulders and, ashamed, answer, ‘I don’t know.’ We live at the epicenter of nihilism prophesied in the nineteenth century as a consequence of the loss of faith in God. Humanity has been plunged into constant, endless wars, of all against all, and the toxic specter of racism plagues humanity once again. Is optimism still possible? This book is my answer to the question of why I am still optimistic.»

Published by Page Publishing, Norberto Valdes’s new book Mas Allá del Llanto y del Dolor will illuminate the readers with sagacious perspectives that delve into the idea of optimism during tragedy and toil.

Consumers who wish to understand the core of optimism despite the capriciousness of life can purchase Mas Allá del Llanto y del Dolor in any bookstore or online at Apple iTunes, Amazon.com, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

SPRING, Texas, Dec. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The book Cuando el Karma Te Alcance was created by Luis Enrique Pedraza. Luis is an author who was born in the state of Colima, Mexico. He emigrated to California and worked in general duties and the Union of Operators OE3, where he currently works.

Luis said this about his book: «This is a story about a boy, a Mexican American who lived the causes of karma firsthand. It shows that the land where you are is a land of opportunities if you know how to take advantage of them. The life you lead, the things you do in the long run are what will define your destiny—that is, the consequences—because every action has a reaction and everything you do against or for others, one day, it will be returned to you in triplicate. If things go wrong, reflect, look at your past. You will have done something wrong against someone, and you will have to suffer the consequences. If you’re doing well, it’s because your actions have brought you good things. We all go through life, sometimes doing harm to others, taking advantage of their ignorance or their condition. And when we have to suffer the result of our actions, we cry out to God, asking, ‘Why me?’ We envy the life that some people lead who do not care about destiny. Always do good, always help others, always listen to those who seek them for help or advice. You will find all this and more in this story made to be enjoyed.»

Published by Page Publishing, Luis Enrique Pedraza’s new book Cuando el Karma Te Alcance shows the uncertainty of a young boy’s life, manifesting through karma and shaping his life for better or worse.

Consumers who wish to understand the whims of karma through a boy’s eventful moments in life can purchase Cuando el Karma Te Alcance in any bookstore or online at Apple iTunes, Amazon.com, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

  • Hyundai Motor Group plans to introduce 23 BEV models and sell 1 million BEV units worldwide by 2025

Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled its new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), a dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform. Revealed online today during an ‘E-GMP Digital Discovery’ event, the platform will serve as the core technology for Hyundai Motor Group’s next-generation BEV line-up.

Hyundai Motor Group to lead charge into electric era with dedicated EV platform ‘E−GMP’

The event was broadcasted through the Group’s official YouTube channel and Channel Hyundai, an online global content platform.

From 2021, the E-GMP will underpin a range of dedicated new BEVs, including Hyundai Motor Company’s IONIQ 5; Kia Motors Corporation’s first dedicated BEV to be revealed in 2021; and a series of other models.

Designed exclusively for BEVs, E-GMP provides various advantages compared to the Group’s existing platforms, which have each been engineered predominantly to accommodate internal combustion engines. Benefits include increased development flexibility, powerful driving performance, increased driving range, strengthened safety features, and more interior space for occupants and luggage.

«Today our front-wheel driven Hyundai and Kia BEVs are already among the most efficient ones in their segments,» said Albert Biermann, President and Head of R&D Division for Hyundai Motor Group.   «With our rear-wheel driven based E-GMP, we are extending our technological leadership into segments where customers demand excellent driving dynamics and outstanding efficiency.»

«E-GMP is the culmination of years of research and development and brings together our most cutting-edge technologies. Our BEV line-up will evolve and be strengthened by this innovative new platform,» said Fayez Abdul Rahman, Senior Vice President of Vehicle Architecture Development Center for Hyundai Motor Group.

Maximizing development flexibility through modularization and standardization
E-GMP reduces complexity through modularization and standardization, allowing rapid and flexible development of products which can be used across most vehicle segments, such as sedans, SUVs and CUVs. Moreover, flexible development can satisfy various customer needs for vehicle performance. Among these, a high performance model will accelerate from zero to 100kph in less than 3.5 seconds and achieve a maximum speed of 260km/h.

E-GMP will be highly effective in expanding the Group’s EV leadership position as it will enable the company to enlarge its EV line-up over a relatively short period through modularization and standardization.

Designed for Driving Performance, Safety and Maximized Space
E-GMP is engineered to offer improved cornering performance and driving stability at high speed. This is due to optimal weight distribution between front and rear, a design which enables a low center of gravity thanks to its low-mounted battery pack, and the adoption of electric motors located in the space previously occupied by an engine.

The high-speed electric motor raises the driving performance of E-GMP vehicles. A five-link rear suspension system, which is typically used for mid and large sized vehicle segments, and the world’s first mass-produced integrated drive axle (IDA), which combines wheel bearings with the drive shaft to transmit power to the wheels, enhance ride comfort and handling stability.

The platform secures battery safety through a battery support structure made of ultra-high strength steel. Hot-stamped steel components surround this structure for additional rigidity. Collision energy can be absorbed efficiently thanks to energy-absorbent sections of the body and chassis, effective energy load paths, and a central section of the battery pack tightly bound to the vehicle body.

Moreover, by strengthening the structure of the load support section, located in front of the dashboard, engineers have been able to minimize collision energy to the power electric system and battery. The A-pillar’s load distribution structure also prevents deformation of the passenger cell.

E-GMP maximizes interior space through its long wheelbase, short front and rear overhangs and slim cockpit module. With the battery pack mounted beneath the floor, the E-GMP creates a flat floor for the cabin. This provides more legroom for passengers, while enabling various arrangements for the front and rear seats.

The battery pack itself – mounted between the front and rear wheel axles – will be the most power-dense system that Hyundai Motor Group has ever created. This is partly thanks to its enhanced cooling performance, a result of a new separate cooling block structure which helps make the battery pack more compact. With energy density enhanced by around 10% compared to existing EV battery technology, the battery packs are lighter, can be mounted lower in the body, and liberate more cabin space.

Efficient and Powerful Electrification System
The E-GMP’s compact new power electric (PE) system consists of a powerful motor, EV transmission and inverter. These three components are integrated into a single compact module. This ensures powerful performance by raising the motor’s maximum speed by up to 70 percent compared to existing motors. The high-speed motor is smaller than other motors while providing comparable performance, and it gives efficiencies in both space and weight.

Additionally, a standardized battery system can be tuned to offer performance appropriate for a specific vehicle segment, to maximize driving range, or to meet various customer needs.

The motor is controlled by the inverter power module, which adopts silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors. This motor can enhance system efficiency by around 2~3 percent, which means the vehicle can be driven for approximately 5 percent longer on the same battery energy.

E-GMP relies on the rear wheel for propulsion. Customers will be able to choose between rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations; models with the latter can be equipped with an additional motor. The all-wheel drive system includes an EV transmission disconnector, which can control the connection between the additional motor and front wheels, and switch between two-wheel and all-wheel drive modes to enhance efficiency by offering the ideal level of power or performance for current driving conditions.

All vehicles developed with the E-GMP platform use a standardized single type of battery module. This module is composed of pouch-type standard cells and can be packed in different quantities as required for each vehicle.

Multi (800V and 400V) and Bi-Directional Charging System
Most existing EVs and the fast-charging infrastructure provide 50kW~150kW charging for EVs equipped with a 400V system; however, the development of 800V infrastructure, with up to 350kW charging, will gradually enable even more fast-charging.

In line with this trend, Hyundai Motor Group has invested in IONITY, Europe’s leading high-power charging network, as a strategic partner and shareholder. IONITY operates 298 high-power charging (HPC) stations – using a charging capacity of up to 350 kW – along highways in European countries. The company plans to increase this number to 400 HPC stations by 2022, including 53 currently under construction.

E-GMP offers 800V charging capability as standard and enables 400V charging, without the need for additional components or adapters. The multi-charging system is a world’s first patented technology which operates the motor and the inverter to boost 400V to 800V for stable charging compatibility.

A BEV based on E-GMP is capable of a maximum range of over 500km with a fully charged battery, according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light-duty vehicle Procedure (WLTP). Moreover, it can high-speed charge up to 80 percent in just 18 minutes and can add up to 100km of driving range in just five minutes.

Unlike previous BEVs, which only accept one-way charging, the E-GMP’s charging system is more flexible. The E-GMP’s newly developed Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) represents an upgrade from existing On-Board Chargers (OBC), which typically only allow electricity to flow in a single direction from an external power source. The ICCU enables a new vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, which can additionally discharge energy from the vehicle battery without additional components. This enables BEV based on the E-GMP to operate other electric machinery (110 / 220V) anywhere. The system can even be used to charge another EV.

The new V2L function can supply up to 3.5kW of power and operate a mid-sized air conditioner unit and a 55-inch television for up to 24 hours.

E-GMP to underpin future EV sales growth worldwide
Hyundai Motor Group has put in considerable effort to prepare for the era of electrification. Kia Motors Corporation launched its first mass-produced BEV in 2011, the Ray EV, in Korea, with the Soul EV sold in global markets from 2014. The Group completed the introduction of a mass production system for all electrified vehicles in 2015, including those with HEV, PHEV, BEV, and FCEV.

The E-GMP will underpin Hyundai Motor Group’s plans to introduce a total of 23 BEV models including 11 dedicated BEV models, and sell more than 1 million BEVs worldwide by 2025. As part of its BEV vision, Hyundai Motor Company launched its dedicated ‘IONIQ’ BEV brand in August 2020, which includes three dedicated BEV models, the IONIQ 5,6 and 7 by 2024. This currently covers various vehicle segments.

Kia is also undergoing a transformation for the era of electrification, based on its ‘Plan S’ mid-to-long term strategy. In September, Kia announced plans to increase the share of BEV sales volumes as a proportion of total sales to 20 percent by 2025. The company also recently published an early image of seven dedicated BEV models to be released sequentially by 2027.

MIAMI, Dec. 1, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises today announced the realignment of several of its divisions designed to fuel growth in a rapidly changing media market driven by Latinos’ demand for culturally relevant storytelling across linear, digital and mobile formats. The new structure will maximize Telemundo’s content across all its platforms and strengthen collaboration between the company’s award-winning creators and the revenue and distribution team.

  • A newly-redesigned Revenue Strategy and Distribution unit will be led by Peter Blacker in a broader role as EVP, Chief Commercial Officer, Head of DTC Licensing, continuing to report to Ferrari. Blacker has been instrumental in leading the expansion of Telemundo’s revenue streams and the development of its digital and emerging businesses. In his new role, he will focus exclusively on the commercialization, monetization and distribution of Telemundo content including direct-to-consumer and emerging platforms. Blacker will be responsible for partnering with Telemundo’s creative engines (Global Studios, Entertainment, Sports and News), as well as with the NBCU Distribution & Licensing and Peacock teams, to develop monetization opportunities in the U.S. and globally. Telemundo Global Studios, led by its President Marcos Santana, will continue to oversee long and short-form content creation for all platforms including direct-to-consumer and emerging formats.

The current executive leadership team continues to report to Ferrari including: Amanda Calpin, Chief Financial Officer; Luis Fernández, President, Network News; Mónica Gil, Chief Administrative and Marketing Officer; Ashaki Rucker, SVP, Human Resources; Marcos Santana, President, Telemundo Global Studios; Ana Salas Siegel, EVP, General Counsel; Ray Warren, President, Telemundo Deportes.

«Telemundo is a market leader that represents the Latino of today. As our audience’s media habits continue to evolve, Telemundo is evolving with them. As technology gives rise to new forms of storytelling, Telemundo is strengthening its leadership as the #1 producer of prime-time content in the U.S. to continue developing Latino content and storytelling across all screens, in both Spanish and English. This year, Telemundo has expanded its reach in the digital and social space. Its app has registered record growth and the network has cemented its leadership on YouTube as the #1 network in Spanish and English. As the brand’s new flagship model, MDX delivers on the styling, performance and technology showcased in the MDX Prototype. The debut of the 2022 MDX ushers an emotional redesign for Acura’s fourth-generation SUV, sitting atop a new light-truck platform incorporating double wishbone front suspension (an MDX first), and adored with a sumptuously appointed interior loaded with an arsenal of new features and technologies.
