AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 20, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Texas homebuyers say that finding the right property is the most difficult part of the homebuying process, according to the 2020 Texas Homebuyers and Sellers Report released by Texas Realtors. The annual report provides in-depth insights into the demographics, motivations and opinions of Texas homebuyers and sellers who had a real estate transaction between July 2018 and June 2019. The report also outlines information related to Texas real estate consumers’ income, ethnicity, age and perceptions of the homebuying and selling process.

«This report provides critical insight for Texas Realtors in assessing the ever-changing needs and expectations of the consumers we serve,» said Cindi Bulla, 2020 chairman of Texas Realtors. «For example, despite access to a myriad of technology resources to search for homes, buyers continue to place a high value on local Realtor market knowledge when it comes to selecting the right home, negotiating the right price and guidance through the buying process.»

Buyers who purchased previously owned homes mentioned better prices, value and charm as the top motivating factors. Buyers of newly built homes cited avoiding renovations or plumbing and electrical problems as top reasons they purchased a new home.

The majority of Texas homebuyers (67%) were married couples, followed by single females (17%), single males (10%) and unmarried couples (5%). The median age of Texas homebuyers was 52, five years more than last year.

Bulla continued, «While Texas was slightly better than the national average of homebuyer diversity, we still have work to do. Across the state, we are still seeing white buyers make up the largest share of homebuyers, while those identifying as Hispanic or Black make up 14% and 5%, respectively. We as Texas Realtors must be laser-focused on strategies to ensure that homeownership is attainable and affordable for our entire population.»

In Texas, 78% of all buyers identified as white/Caucasian, 4% Asian/Pacific Islander, 5% Black/African-American and 14% Hispanic/Latino.

For Texans who sold their homes, the most popular reason for putting a home on the market was to move closer to friends or family, followed by job relocations and proximity to their work. Sellers spent a median of 12 years in their homes. The median sales price was $64,050 more than what sellers paid for their homes, and the median length the home spent on the market was four weeks.

Dating App Chispa and Voto Latino Partner To Ignite And Unite Latinxs And Promote Voter Registration

WASHINGTON, Aug. 20, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Chispa, the #1 dating app made for US Latinx millennial singles with over 3 million downloads, has teamed up with Voto Latino, the grassroots political organization focused on educating and empowering a new generation of Latinx voters,…

WASHINGTON, Aug. 20, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Chispa, the #1 dating app made for US Latinx millennial singles with over 3 million downloads, has teamed up with Voto Latino, the grassroots political organization focused on educating and empowering a new generation of Latinx voters, to help ignite and unite their community to register to vote, choose their candidate, and make their voice heard.

Dating App Chispa and Voto Latino Partner To Ignite And Unite Latinxs And Promote Voter Registration

The 2020 election is set-up to be a breakout year for Latinxs as they make up the largest minority group of eligible voters. Census Bureau survey data found that Latinx turnout in the previous election wasn’t that different from prior years, but Latinx turnout in the 2018 midterms was 40.4%, a 50% increase over the 2014 midterms. The combination of Latinx voters making up a larger share of the electorate and turning out in higher numbers could have a huge impact in 2020, especially in the many states where the Latinx population is rising. With less than 75 days until Election Day, Chispa and Voto Latino are collaborating to make sure the community is heard and to help connect based on important issues, educate, and fire up Latinx millennials on Chispa to register to vote and turn out on November 3, 2020.

Inspired by Chispa’s brand promise of creating unity through culture, and aligned with the mission of igniting meaningful connections, through this partnership, Chispa and Voto Latino’s extensive resources will help mobilize eligible Latinos to register and vote. Additionally, Chispa users will be able to swipe right and connect based on like-minded issues and topics that are at the core of the upcoming election.

«This will be the first election in which millennials and Gen Zers outnumber Baby Boomers in the electorate,» said María Teresa Kumar, president and CEO of Voto Latino. «Chispa’s audience is our audience and with their help, our outreach to and activation of young Latinx voters will be that much more impactful. We’re thrilled to partner with Chispa because we must all work together to inform and excite Americans to vote in November.»

«We are very excited to kick off our partnership with Voto Latino, as we know that our audiences are very similar and passionate about making a difference in this election cycle. By providing voter registration and turnout resources, and allowing our users to connect based on issues on the ballot, we hope to foster meaningful conversations and ultimately, strong connections amongst US Latinx singles,» said Julia Estacolchic, Head of Chispa Marketing.

In addition to the partnership, Chispa recently conducted a survey to gauge top issues amongst single Latinxs this election cycle. Key takeaways were as follows:

  • 61% of single Latinx Chispa users are registered to vote, over-indexing the total number of US Latinxs registered to vote at 53.7%
  • Single Latinx Chispa users are more open-minded when it comes to political affiliation though very passionate about certain issues (it is important for them to connect with people who are passionate about like-minded issues over just political party)
    • 63% of Chispa users do not think political affiliation is an important factor when picking a long-term partner; only 12% consider differing political affiliation a deal-breaker.
    • 25% think political affiliation is a conversation starter.
    • Top issues on the ballot this election amongst Chispa members include: immigration, jobs and the economy, and racial and gender equality.

With these insights in mind and to help drive the campaign, Chispa will activate their users in-app by providing tools to take action through culturally relevant curated content through the following beginning early September:

  • Co-branded Voto Latino and Chispa voter registration page
  • Voter registration resources
  • In-app profile badges to spark conversation about key issues while connecting with a potential match

Chispa is the largest dating app made for US Latinos, with over 3 million downloads and the goal of helping Latinos create new connections with singles from similar backgrounds, cultures, and communities. Chispa is a Match Affinity dating app created in 2017 by Match Group (NASDAQ: MTCH), a leading provider of dating products designed to increase users’ likelihood of finding a meaningful connection, like Tinder, Match, Hinge, OkCupid, and more. The Chispa app is available on the iOS App Store and Google Play, both in English and Spanish. For more information visit www.chispa-app.com and follow @ChispaApp on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Voto Latino is a grassroots political organization focused on educating and empowering a new generation of Latinx voters, as well as creating a more robust and inclusive democracy. Through innovative digital campaigns, culturally relevant programs and authentic voices, we shepherd the Latinx community towards the full realization of its political power.

Throughout his career, Jake Shimabukuro has challenged notions of what was possible with a ukulele through his fast and complex finger work, which has made him an internationally recognized ukulele virtuoso and composer. He was soon dubbed the «Jimi Hendrix of the Ukulele,» and his career skyrocketed, leading him to release multiple albums and tour all over the world. Shimabukuro’s music combines elements of various genres including jazz, blues, rock, blue grass, classical, folk, funk, Hawaiian and flamenco. A pioneer for the «true underdog of instruments,» Shimabukuro has helped to propel the ukulele’s presence in the musical world.

«Music has the power to truly shape who we are,» said Jake Shimabukuro. «I hope that through my MasterClass people will discover that the ukulele is not just a tool to make music, but also something that can be life changing.»

Shimabukuro’s MasterClass will teach members the fundamentals of how to play the ukulele with tips, insights and stories from years spent developing his skills. With an inclusive and engaging teaching method, Shimabukuro breaks down ukulele basics for beginners step-by-step, showing members how to hold a ukulele, navigate the fretboard, strum effectively, achieve desired notes and develop unique sounds. He showcases his lessons in action through dynamic performances of his most iconic covers, including a breakdown of «Hallelujah» and a demonstration of how he arranges his rendition of «Bohemian Rhapsody.» More experienced members will learn advanced skills, from advanced chord groupings and techniques to achieving vibrato and harmonics. Shimabukuro will also take members on a song creation journey from start to finish, sharing his process, tricks and inspiration to create an original composition.

WOONSOCKET, Rhode Island, Aug. 20, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — In an ongoing effort to help slow the spread of the virus, CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) today expanded its COVID-19 testing program by deploying 77 additional test sites at select CVS Pharmacy drive-thru locations across Florida. The opening of these new test sites on Friday, August 21 add to the 221 locations previously opened in Florida.

The 77 additional test sites opening across the state this week are among the more than 1,900 locations CVS Health has opened since May and expand the company’s overall testing capacity.

In addition to increasing the number of drive-thru sites, CVS Health has expanded its network of independent third-party lab partners in an effort to help improve turnaround time for the delivery of test results. Given the steps CVS Health has taken, the majority of test results across the country will generally be available within 2-5 days.

«Our national scale and local community presence enable us to uniquely expand people’s access to safe and effective COVID-19 testing options and respond to a need for increased testing capacity,» said Emmanuel Kolady, Senior Vice President, CVS Health. «We remain grateful to our frontline colleagues who make these testing sites possible and whose dedication has allowed us to keep our stores and MinuteClinics open for customers seeking supplies and patients who need care.»

Self-swab tests are no cost to patients and will be available to individuals meeting CDC criteria, in addition to state and age guidelines.1 Patients must register in advance at CVS.com to schedule an appointment. Patients will be required to stay in their cars and will be directed to the pharmacy drive-thru window or a location in the parking lot at a few stores, where they will be provided with a test kit and given instructions, and a CVS Pharmacy team member will observe the self-swab process to ensure it is done properly.

Testing will not take place inside any retail locations, and CVS Pharmacy, HealthHUB and MinuteClinic will continue to serve customers and patients.

DALLAS, Aug. 19, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The DFW Hispanic 100, a network of Dallas/Ft. Worth area Hispanic women leaders working to increase business and leadership opportunities for Latinas, will honor Viola Delgado with its 2020 Latina Living Legend (LLL) Award and Anette Landeros with its Emerging Latina Leader Award (ELLA).

The LLL award recognizes the lifetime commitment of a DFW area Latina who has distinguished herself through her profession, active community and civic participation, volunteerism, and/or philanthropic endeavors.

«Viola has dedicated a lifetime to expressing and sharing the vibrant legacy of the Hispanic community through her art,» said Linda Valdez-Thompson, President of the DFW Hispanic 100. «Through her public art, her curatorial work and her own exhibits, Delgado has addressed the need in the community for more voices to tell the story of women of color.»

Viola Delgado is not only a gifted artist, she is also well known as a tireless community activist and philanthropist. Throughout her career, she has donated works for silent auctions, fundraisers and public facilities well over of $100,000. She has donated to such institutions and organizations as African American Museum, Latino Culture Center, Cara Mia, Junior Player, Big Thought, Truitt Elementary Mural, Dallas Public Library Central Branch, Guadalupe Catholic Church, Good Shepard Catholic Church, City of Dallas City Hall, Dallas Challenge, SAFIR, Old Settle Recreation Center (McKinney, Texas), Texas A&M in Kingsville, Texas, Susan G. These donations have helped raise thousands of dollars for causes that promote multiculturalism and several important community initiatives for equity and access to services.

She has served on the Public Art Committee, La Reunion Advisory Committee, ARTE, and several other art-related organizations. Delgado has also guided and mentored generations of young and emerging artists through her work in different organizations and local schools.

Viola’s research into the culture and history of a project have made her a sought-after artist for several public and commercial projects in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Her murals can be found at the Latino Cultural Center, Dallas; Stevens Park and Tolbert Elementary Schools, Dallas; the Dallas West Library Courtyard and Vickery Village/Buckner Baptist Children’s Home, Dallas. Some of her extraordinary medallions are in the International Terminal D at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and the Lake June and Rowlett Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Stations. The Dallas Observer named her DFW International Airport medallion as one of 10 points of interest. She has also curated exhibits at the Latino Cultural Center for six years.

The ELLA award recognizes a Latina professional making an impact on women and girls through her engagement and leadership in her community and profession.

LA MIRADA, California, Aug. 19, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Makita U.S.A., Inc. continues to set a fast pace with more products, more infrastructure and more jobs. And in a year that marks 50 years in the U.S.A., Makita has expanded its distribution, training and service capabilities with a new 600,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility in Reno, NV.

Makita’s new Reno facility, a $50 million investment, is a state-of-the-art facility offering expanded distribution, training and service capabilities. The facility is located on nearly 50 acres of land with 600,000 square feet of warehouse space. The strategic location increases Makita’s operational ability to meet growing market demand.

It increases Makita’s operational ability to meet growing market demand with nation-wide 2-day ground coverage, so customers receive products faster.

Leading Innovation, Service, and Training

«Makita is focused on leading innovation and engineering, as well as training and after-sales service,» said Joe Blackwell, vice president operations. «These are cornerstones that go back to the earliest days of the company, and the addition of the new Reno facility is focused on fulfilling these promises. Makita is looking forward and we are committed to serving our valued customers.»

The new Reno facility, a $50 million investment, is the company’s fifth in the U.S.A. and follows the recent opening of a similar facility in the Dallas region. Makita recently opened Reno with a soft launch and will be fully on-line this fall.

New Distribution Center

The Reno facility is located on nearly 50 acres of land with 600,000 square feet of warehouse space fully equipped with operational capabilities. It’s the latest addition to Makita’s distribution chain which includes operations in Wilmer, TX, Mt. Makita trainers can utilize adjacent outdoor space equipped with infrastructure to run Makita’s expanding line of outdoor power equipment.

For dealer partners, training will focus on increasing their knowledge of Makita’s leading technologies and empowering them to match a solution to their customers. For professional users, the focus is application-driven with instruction showing the right accessories and the right tools for the job with an emphasis on proper use for increased productivity and profitability.

New Factory Service Center

A new Factory Service Center is targeted to open in late fall 2020. It will be the latest addition to Makita’s national service network, and will be four-times larger in square footage than any other Makita Service Center in the U.S.A.

Focused on the Future

Even with this significant expansion, Makita remains focused on the future.

«The new facility addresses increasing demand that we’re seeing across all product categories including construction, cordless outdoor power equipment, automotive and janitorial-sanitation,» said Blackwell. «But even during construction in Reno we were still looking forward. The open space adjacent to the building is shovel-ready for planned future expansion.»

LOS CABOSMexico, Aug. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Airports Council International (ACI) World and ACI Latin America and Caribbean have announced today that Los Cabos International Airport is the second in the world and the first in Latin American and Caribbean to be accredited in the ACI Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) programme.

LOS CABOS AIRPORT, SECOND WORLDWIDE TO ACHIEVE ACI AIRPORT HEALTH ACCREDITATION (AHA)

ACI’s Airport Health Accreditation programme recognizes the commitment to health and welfare of passengers, airport staff and the public, by supporting airports assessing the new health measures and procedures introduced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in accordance with ICAO Council Aviation Restart Task Force (CART) recommendations and in alignment with the joint EASA and ECDC Aviation Health Safety Protocol and ACI EUROPE’s Guidelines for a Healthy Passenger Experience at Airports.

Topics covered by the accreditation include cleaning and disinfection, physical distancing (where feasible and practical), staff protection, physical layout, passenger communications and passenger facilities.

«Airports in Latin America and Caribbean have acted quickly to this crisis adapting their procedures to the ICAO CART Recommendations and industry best practices. The ACI Airport Health Accreditation gives airports the opportunity to demonstrate to the travelling public and governments that the measures implemented are consistent with global recognized standards» said Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC.

«The impact of the COVID Pandemic has been devastating to our economies and the reactivation of air transport is key for the economic recovery of our region. The AHA programme will contribute restoring confidence in air travel», added Rafael Echevarne.

«We congratulate Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) and Los Cabos International Airport for being the first airport in the region to be accredited in the Airport Health Accreditation programme which demonstrates the commitment of GAP to the health and safety of passengers, employees and the public.»

«Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico’s priority is to give its passengers a safe and pleasant travel experience. As proof of this is the present accreditation, which keeps us in the leadership of health security at an international level, applying the best protocols and measures in all of our airports», added Raúl Revuelta, CEO of Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico.

Congratulations to Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico and the team from Los Cabos Airport!»

The airports managed by GAP in Mexico are owned by the Mexican government and have been allocated in a 50-year concession starting in 1998, as part of a domestic initiative to privatize and improve the quality and security of the country’s airport services.

In Jamaica, the government owns the Montego Bay Airport and the concession granted for its operation is for a 30-year period, which will conclude on April 2033. The Kingston Airport was granted for a 25-year concession. GAP took control of the operation and administration this past October 2019.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Voto Latino, the nation’s largest Latinx voter registration organization, has officially registered 254,528 voters for the 2020 election cycle — surpassing the halfway mark for its 500,000 registration goal. This milestone brings the organization’s registration total to over 750,000 voters and represents the most voters registered in an election cycle in its 15-year history. Of those registered for the 2020 election, 70% are between the ages of 18 and 34, and 146,983 people were registered in Texas, alone.

«We took a gamble after the 2018 election – our gut told us that if we made early smart investments in a digital-first infrastructure and started January 1 on registration – speaking to an overlooked but critical pool of voters, there would be an appetite for enfranchisement. Young people have not let us down. They care and they are motivated. This is no doubt the most seminal election of our lifetime and we turned the traditional model for voter outreach on its head and it’s paying off,» said María Teresa Kumar, president and CEO of Voto Latino. «Young people are leading the way in political organizing this election cycle and we’re seeing evidence that they are connecting protest to voting and are poised to make noise come this November. This is just the beginning.»

For the first time, the Latinx community will constitute the second-largest voting bloc in the electorate. Four million who have turned 18 since the 2016 election and who will be eligible to cast a ballot for the first time this year. Voto Latino adopted a grassroots approach to voter registration online, stepping in where party and government structures have failed. Since the tragic murder of George Floyd on May 25th, Voto Latino has registered 143,840, demonstrating the mobilizing nature of the Black Lives Matter movement on the Latinx community. A July poll completed between Latino Decisions and Voto Latino found that more than three-quarters of Latinx people supported Black Lives Matter and police reform. This year, Voto Latino also made it’s first-ever political endorsement, supporting Vice President Joe Biden for president of the United States.
