Rowald Holt was born in 1939 in Southwest Germany, before World War II started. His father owned a photo studio, but was drafted into the German army in 1941 and sent to the Russian front, where he died at year’s end. His mother continued with the photo business until she died in 1949 and he spent his teenage years at his uncle’s. In 1960, he emigrated to Canada where he worked as a photographer, then went to university for a B.A. and B.Ed., and with his wife whom he married in 1969, moved from Edmonton to the Okanagan Valley where they owned and operated an apple and cherry orchard. Oakland Zoo Backs New Initiative Aimed at Ending Zoonotic Disease Threats

To address this crisis, Oakland Zoo and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) are launching a new initiative. «Reduce the Risk: A Crisis in Human and Animal Health» aims to reduce zoonotic disease threats by combating wildlife trade that poses a risk to human and animal health.

«The current COVID-19 crisis was knowable, predictable, and preventable. AZA members are experts in safely and effectively importing, exporting, and transporting animals, and have expertise in preventative veterinary care, including quarantine, and measures to enhance resiliency to animal disease and pathogens,» said Dan Ashe, President, and CEO of AZA. «This expertise can provide critical input into national and global policy conversations around wildlife trade and inform the public that zoos and aquariums are safe places to visit.»

The initiative was developed with input from wildlife trade and animal health experts from inside and outside of the AZA community and will utilize four strategic pillars:

  • Increase AZA programs and efforts that support the Reduce the Risk initiative goal.
  • Educate and mobilize the public to help us reduce the risk of zoonotic diseases.

With approximately 50% of Oakland Zoo’s animal residents being rescues, many of those rescues were also victims of (illegal) wildlife trade from overseas. Animals confiscated by officials at SFO and the Port of Oakland have been brought to Oakland Zoo over the years where they have been treated by veterinary hospital staff, quarantined, and then monitored for health by animal care and veterinary hospital staff.

Oakland Zoo has been vigilant in avoiding an increase of zoonotic disease transmission since the beginning of quarantine in March of 2020, by continuing strict practices that include:

  • Any staff exhibiting clinical signs of COVID-19 are not allowed on Zoo premises.
  • Daily health assessments and temperature checks conducted by supervisors.
  • Masks are worn by all staff.
  • Continuous hand washing throughout shifts.
  • Social distancing with all personnel (staff and volunteers) in shared areas – break rooms, office spaces, etc.
  • Limited volunteers and vendors/guests also complete a COVID survey before entering the Zoo.

(NYSE American: NTN), announced it received a letter from the NYSE Regulation stating that it is not in compliance with NYSE American LLC continued listing standards. Specifically, the Company is not in compliance with Section 704 of the NYSE American Company Guide because it did not hold an annual meeting during the fiscal year ended December 31, 2020.

NTN continues to not be in compliance with Sections 1003(a)(i), (ii) and (iii) of the Company Guide because it reported stockholders equity of less than $2 million, $4 million and $6 million as of June 30, 2020, March 31, 2020 and December 31, 2019, respectively.  As a result, NTN became subject to the procedures and requirements of Section 1009 of the Company Guide, which included submitting a plan to NYSE Regulation advising of actions NTN has taken or will take to regain compliance with Sections 1003(a)(i), (ii) and (iii) of the Company Guide by September 27, 2021.  As previously reported, NYSE Regulation notified NTN that it accepted NTN’s plan to regain compliance and granted NTN a plan period that extends through September 27, 2021.

NTN can give no assurances that it will be able to maintain the listing of its common stock on the NYSE American. Este proyecto forma parte del plan de acción de LaLiga para contribuir al crecimiento del fútbol soccer en Estados Unidos, a la vez que brinda todos los recursos y las oportunidades para ayudar a los talentos estadounidenses en su preparación rumbo al Mundial de 2026.

Con este tipo de iniciativas, LaLiga quiere fomentar y facilitar la llegada a España de nuevos talentos jóvenes estadounidenses a temprana edad, como Sergiño Dest y Konrad De La Fuente del FC Barcelona, o Yunus Musah del Valencia FC.

«El objetivo de LaLiga Next es contribuir al desarrollo del talento joven estadounidense, al brindar a los jugadores una oportunidad de demostrar su potencial, una experiencia para mejorar su juego y, en última instancia, una forma de cumplir su sueño de convertirse en jugadores de fútbol soccer profesional y que un día puedan representar a su país en un Mundial», señala Nicolás García Hemme, vicepresidente de Estrategia y Desarrollo de Negocios de LaLiga North America. «Nuestra meta es colaborar con clubes locales para ser sus aliados en el reclutamiento internacional y continuar añadiendo nuevas sedes cada año, en diferentes regiones de Estados Unidos».

Esta iniciativa sin precedentes comenzará este año entre el 21 de junio y el 13 de julio con diferentes eventos Talent ID en varias ciudades de Estados Unidos, donde se esperan miles de participantes. Los representantes de LaLiga seleccionarán aproximadamente 60 jugadores para participar en una exhibición española en Madrid. Durante un período de 10 días, este grupo de jugadores entrenará y competirá con los mejores clubes de España bajo la supervisión de diferentes directores técnicos de los clubes juveniles de LaLiga, quienes reclutarán al mejor jugador de cada categoría de edad para participar en un campo de entrenamiento patrocinado con un club juvenil de LaLiga.
