YAKUM, Israel, Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Augwind (TASE: AUGN), which specializes in the development and installation of compressed air storage technologies to increase energy efficiency (AirSmart), and for energy storage for the electricity sector, today announced that its board of directors has decided to appoint high-tech veteran, Mr. Gabi Seligsohn, to the position of Executive Chairman of its board, subject to approval by the shareholders’ meeting.

Or Yogev, CEO and Founder of Augwind, said: «Gabi Seligsohn brings rich and proven experience from NASDAQ-listed companies Nova Measuring Instruments and Kornit Digital, in both of which he served as CEO. Gabi, in his capacity as CEO, led a transformation of the companies and turned them into global, market-leading companies by any standard, while unlocking tremendous value for the investors. I am pleased that Gabi identified similar potential in Augwind and is interested in joining the leadership of the company as Executive Chairman and contribute significantly to strengthening its organizational and managerial backbone as well as leading the company’s future strategy.

«Gabi Seligsohn, served as President & CEO of Nova Measuring Instruments between 2006 and 2013. He then went on to serve as CEO of Kornit Digital (2014-2018), where he led its successful IPO on Wall Street. Mr. Seligsohn currently serves as director on a number of NASDAQ-traded technology companies. In 2010, he was voted CEO of the Year of the Israeli High-Tech Industry. He holds an LL.B. from Reading University in England

Gabi Seligsohn said, «I found in Augwind all the building blocks with which to build a successful global company, as I did in my previous roles. The company caters to a market of huge proportions; it offers a unique solution that will enable acceleration of the transition to renewable energy; it has differentiated intellectual property, an attractive business model and huge potential for growth in the coming years. Augwind brings an energy storage system that simply and uniquely overcomes the biggest challenge facing large-scale transition to renewable energy. Energy companies are looking for a breakthrough technology that is green and has a positive impact on the planet, and this is exactly what Augwind’s AirBattery offers.

«The market on which Augwind has set its sights is huge and is in fact in its early stages of deployment. I am convinced that Augwind, headed by Or Yogev, will know how to provide a breakthrough technology solution to energy companies in the field.

«I have come to Augwind to assist in building a global infrastructure that is market- and customer-focused, define a strategy for managed growth, and assist in building a global company that will lead the storage market for many years to come. I have no doubt that together with the company’s management, employees and the achievements the company has to its credit to date, we will succeed in turning Augwind into a global success story.»

Or Yogev added, «Some of the main considerations in the decision to take on Gabi as Executive Chairman of the company’s board, were his successes with Nova and Kornit. Nova, under Seligsohn’s management, turned into a global market leader – from a company that at the peak of the global crisis was traded at a value of only 8 million dollars, to a company worth approximately 300 million dollars prior to his departure. The foundation laid by the company during his tenure as its CEO has served as a significant keystone for its continued growth.

«At Kornit, Seligsohn led the company from a private company with annual sales of 50 million dollars to a scope of sales of 150 million dollars within a mere four years. He led Kornit to a successful IPO on NASDAQ, created development and customer support mechanisms of the highest standard, built a strong management team and signed agreements with global giants such as Amazon. During his time at Kornit, the infrastructure was laid for the continued success of the company, which is today already traded at a value in excess of 4 billion dollars. Coupled with these successes, Seligsohn also brings deep and long-term acquaintance with the leading investment funds and banks on Wall Street and will contribute greatly to the company in its operations in the United States.

«Gabi will play an important part in the company’s public offering in the United States. We see this move as a major milestone for Augwind since it will enable the company to create a significant presence in the American market, which is a key target market for the company’s products, transparency vis-à-vis the American market (as a company reporting in English in accordance with U.S. standards and regulations), and especially for access to additional capital and debt sources, which Augwind requires as a company catering to global infrastructure markets.»

Housing affordability for Black California households is half that of whites, illustrating persistent wide homeownership gap and wealth disparities, C.A.R. reports

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Less than half of Black households earned the minimum income needed to purchase a home as compared to whites, illustrating the homeownership gap and wealth disparity for people of color, women, people with disabilities, indigenous people and members of the LGBTQ community, the

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Less than half of Black households earned the minimum income needed to purchase a home as compared to whites, illustrating the homeownership gap and wealth disparity for people of color, women, people with disabilities, indigenous people and members of the LGBTQ community, the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (C.A.R.) https://www.car.org/ said today.

The percentage of Black home buyers who could afford to purchase a median-priced, existing single-family home in California in 2020 was 19 percent, compared to 38 percent for white households. Housing affordability was similarly low for Latinx households, with 20 percent earning the minimum income needed to purchase a median-priced home. Housing was most affordable for Asians, with 43 percent of homebuyers who could afford the median-priced home in 2020, according to C.A.R.’s Housing Affordability Index.

According to the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, the 2019 homeownership rate in California was 63.2 percent for whites, 60.2 percent for Asians, 44.1 percent for Latinx and 36.8 percent for Blacks.

«The wide affordability gap in California between whites and people of color demonstrates the legacy of systemic racism in housing, which has created inequities in homeownership rates across these communities,» said C.A.R. President Dave Walsh. «Closing the homeownership gap is essential to closing the generational wealth gap in our country, and that’s why C.A.R. is committed to addressing barriers and disparities to make equity in housing and access to affordable homes a reality for all people.»

Among legislative actions C.A.R. is taking to address housing discrimination is introducing several Fair Housing and Equity bills including:

  • requiring California real estate professionals to take implicit bias training
  • removing discriminatory language in property records
  • prohibiting discrimination against people living in affordable housing
  • repealing Article 34 of the California Constitution
  • boosting housing construction so homeownership is accessible to all

C.A.R.’s Housing Affordability Index (HAI) measures the percentage of households that can afford to purchase a median-priced, single-family home in California. C.A.R. also reports affordability indices for regions and select counties within the state. The index is considered the most fundamental measure of housing well-being for home buyers in the state.

A minimum annual income of $122,800 was needed to qualify for the purchase of a $659,380 statewide median-priced, existing single-family home in 2020. The monthly payment, including taxes and insurance on a 30-year, fixed-rate loan, would be $3,070, assuming a 20 percent down payment and an effective composite interest rate of 3.30 percent. The 2020 California median income for whites was $94,390, $107,100 for Asians, $65,510 for Latinx and $56,820 for Blacks.

The affordability gap is especially stark in expensive counties like San Francisco, where a median-priced home of $1,650,000 was only affordable for 8 percent of Black households, 15 percent of Latinx households and 22 percent of Asian households compared to 35 percent of white households.

Compared with California, 42 percent of the nation’s Black households could afford to purchase a $299,900 median-priced home in 2020, which required a minimum annual income of $55,600 to make monthly payments of $1,390, while 62 percent of white households could afford the same home.

Key points from the 2020 Housing Affordability by Ethnicity report include:

  • Even in relatively affordable areas such as Fresno and Sacramento counties, the affordability differential between Black and white households was high at 23 percent and 22 percent, respectively.
  • For Latinx households, the affordability gap was the greatest in Santa Clara (21 percent gap), San Francisco, San Mateo and Los Angeles counties (all at 20 percent).

PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Big Sky Recycling today announces that it is now officially recognized as a Certified B Corporation. This signifies that the company is committed to managing its impact on the environment and how its policies affect people. Big Sky Recycling provides a simple and secure way to donate old cell phones to be refurbished, reused or recycled to make use of their valuable materials, rather than thrown away.

The certification was handed out by the nonprofit, B Lab, whose goal is to hold companies accountable for their impact on the world and urge people to take greater responsibility in operating sustainably and responsibly. The aim is that these accreditations will lead to a movement towards more sustainable and responsible businesses that work to make a positive impact on the world.

Only an estimated 4,000 companies worldwide have managed to meet or exceed the minimum score assessment set by B lab. Ben & Jerry’s consciousness of environmental and sociological impact, and The Guardian’s honest reporting on the climate crisis, for example, helped them both earn certification as a B Corporation.

Businesses can sometimes be reluctant to think on a global scale and instead leave the world’s most challenging problems to be solved by governments and nonprofits. The B Corp community works together towards reducing inequality and poverty levels, to create a healthier environment and stronger communities.

«At Big Sky Recycling we’ve never been satisfied with staying the way we are,» said founder of Big Sky Recycling, Wesley Poritz. «That’s why we’re constantly challenging ourselves to do better. Whether that be with prioritizing local and minority owned suppliers or our zero landfill policy, B Lab provides a tangible way to measure that impact and be held accountable.»

«Going forward, we hope to continue to meet the expectations of B Lab and our community. Environmental and Social responsibility is no joke to us. We’re proud to have earned our B Corp Certification and only hope to do even better as the years go by.»

A company’s recertification status is updated every three years, so qualifications regarding governance, workers and community must be met at all times. It means that companies need to be constantly committed to environmental and social responsibility, paying living wages, and representing and uplifting the members of the community they serve.

About

Big Sky Recycling is dedicated to reducing e-waste, by providing a simple and secure solution for recycling cell phones and electronics. Big Sky Recycling also donates their profits to a variety of causes from nonprofit organizations, including supporting Soldiers overseas (Operation Shoebox), planting trees (One Tree Planted) and feeding hungry children (No Kid Hungry).

NEW YORK, Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — With brutal winter weather conditions impacting much of the country, 73% percent of drivers in America say they are anxious or afraid of driving in bad wintry weather such as snow, sleet or ice. A contributing factor to this fear and anxiety is a lack of preparation and awareness according to a new ValuePenguin.com by LendingTree survey.

Key Findings:

  • 73% of drivers are anxious about driving in wintry weather, and 15% aren’t confident at all. Wintry weather makes 84% of Gen Z drivers anxious — fewer millennials (74%), Gen Xers (71%) and baby boomers (69%) voiced their anxiety about driving in wintry weather.
  • 80% of women said driving in winter conditions made them feel anxious, compared with 68% of men. Additionally, three times more women (23%) say they’re not at all confident in their ability to drive when there is snow or ice on the road when compared to men (8%).
  • Drivers in the South and Northeast are the most anxious about Winter Driving: 76% of those living in the snowy Northeast said they felt uneasy about winter driving. 75% of Southern drivers were anxious about driving in wintry weather, with 22% classifying themselves as completely unconfident.
  • Many drivers lack preparation for driving in poor weather conditions. 57% of drivers haven’t checked their tire tread depth in the past two months, 55% don’t check their tire pressure at least monthly and 29% regularly let their gas tank drop below a quarter tank, with 6% saying they usually do not fill up until the tank is nearly empty.
  • While more than half of all drivers have gotten stuck in the snow before, they aren’t adequately prepared: While many drivers keep basics like a phone charger (58%), a set of jumper cables (54%), an ice scraper (54%) and a flashlight (51%) on hand, they’re less likely keep essential items like a blanket (34%), snacks and water (29%), extra clothes (18%), a snow shovel (16%) or emergency flares (16%).
  • 48% of drivers don’t think they got a full education about how to drive in winter weather. 35% of drivers aren’t completely sure what to do if their car starts to skid. 19% of drivers pull over and 8% call a loved one despite the danger that these actions can pose on slick roads where visibility is lower than usual.
  • 1 in 3 drivers have been in a winter weather-related car accident. 38% of men experienced a winter-weather accident, compared with 27% of women. 43% of millennials admitted to being involved in crashes, the highest of any demographic. A quarter of all drivers also said their car was damaged by wintry weather unrelated to an accident.

According to ValuePenguin.com Insurance expert Andrew Hurst, «Unsafe driving over the winter can cost Americans, especially those who don’t have sufficient auto insurance coverage. 69% of the drivers we surveyed said they had to pay out of pocket for repairs their insurer did not cover. 25% said they spent more than $1,000 on repairs.» He adds, «Damage caused by winter-driving conditions is covered by the liability portion of a typical car insurance policy only when another car strikes your vehicle. If driving conditions cause a single-car crash or damage a vehicle without causing an accident, you would need comprehensive and collision coverage to cover the expenses.»

ValuePenguin commissioned Qualtrics to conduct an online survey of 1,124 licensed drivers, conducted Jan. 25-26, 2021. The survey was administered using a non probability-based sample, and quotas were used to ensure the sample base represented the overall population. All responses were reviewed by researchers for quality control.

COVID-19 and Global Print: the Winners and Losers, a study by Cloudprinter.com

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — As Covid-19 is known to hit the global economy, a study conducted by the Cloudprinter.com platform that has analyzed over 65.000 orders out of the 1.3 million print orders processed last year, reveals the impact on the global print industry from a new perspective, resulting in a new reality in the print world.

Local digital print providers in the US and Europe are gaining momentum while larger print houses in Asia and East Europe are losing their global customers.

Closed borders and local lockdowns, combined with increased global cargo prices, forced print buyers to look for local alternatives. This accelerated the new trend to switch from global sourcing, to local sourcing, resulting in lower shipping costs, and shorter transit times. This resulted in a reduction of 95.6% of carbon emissions generated by the logistics for publishers, Web2Print providers, and photo E-commerce companies.

While large print buyers in the corporate and events sectors were shutting down their offices around the world, individuals shifted online as quickly as never before, and helped the print industry by moving from corporate print orders to personalized photo products on-demand — like printed textbooks and wall photo decoration for the consumer market.

In the digital print industry, the corporate orders in 2020 were counting only for 13.55% of the processed print volume at the Cloudprinter.com platform.

68.7% of all the global print volume sourced via the global print platform Cloudprinter.com was printed on digital presses of HP INC (NYSE: HPQ). Xerox (NYSE: XRX) lost a significant part of its market share, only 2.9% of global print volume via Cloudprinter.com was printed on digital presses from Xerox, however, Canon was the rising star with a share of almost 24.9% of the printed volume.

Cloudprinter.com is the leading global print cloud & API platform for brands, Fortune500 companies, and the E-commerce industry. In 2020, Cloudprinter.com realized a growth of 500% growth, driving more print jobs to local print providers in 104 countries.

LUSAKA, Zambia, Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The Government of Zambia and African Parks have signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will see the implementation of a Priority Support Plan for the protection of Kafue National Park. Signed on Thursday 4th February, the Priority Support Plan will increase technical and financial support for Kafue worth US$3 million over a period of 12 months.

Minister of Tourism and Arts Honourable, Hon. Ronald K. Chitotela, said the MoU would help Zambia to realize the potential of the Kafue National Park which is Zambia’s prime tourist destination and an internationally renowned wildlife sanctuary.

«It is essential that we invest in the protection of our wildlife and enhance the infrastructure for tourism. Having worked together for 18 years, we believe that African Parks is a partner who can help us to actualize the park’s potential in contributing to the economy and the wellbeing of our people,» the Minister said.

The Priority Support Plan will see the collaboration between Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) and African Parks implement activities in key priority areas over the ensuing 12 months, while the parties negotiate for a long-term agreement. The primary objectives include improving critical infrastructure, supporting the DNPW’s law enforcement efforts and conducting conservation baseline studies.

African Parks’ CEO Peter Fearnhead said «Kafue National Park is one of Africa’s best known protected areas and one of the ten largest on the African continent. We look forward to supporting the Zambian Government’s vision to conserve this extremely precious resource and to optimise its long-term social, economic and ecological benefits».

Kafue National Park is situated in the world’s largest transfrontier conservation area, the Kavango Zambezi (KAZA TFCA), which straddles the boundaries of five countries, forming one cross-border ecosystem the size of France. Kafue’s Priority Support Plan will be funded through Dutch Postcode Lottery’s dreamfund grant, a 16.9 million Euro contribution awarded to the World Wide Fund for Nature, African Parks and Peace Parks Foundation to assist KAZA partner states in securing the TFCA through integrated initiatives.

Kafue is Zambia’s largest wildlife sanctuary, covering 22,400km2 of intact savannah and a network of water channels dominated by the Kafue River. It represents one of the last expansive tracts of the iconic Zambezian ecoregion, providing a singular opportunity to conserve significant populations of savannah wildlife, including elephants, large predators and 21 species of antelope – the highest diversity of antelope on the continent.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The stunning diversity of animal and plant life that covers our planet is essential to a prosperous and sustainable future. Our complex web of life is facing a myriad of threats that scientists report could result in the extinction of 1 million species, many in just decades. The magnitude of such a loss requires a new generation of environmental champions to take on the challenge.

EarthEcho International, the global nonprofit founded on the belief that youth have the power to change our planet, is accepting submissions for the 2021 OurEcho Challenge beginning February 17.  The STEM competition is designed to engage young problem solvers in studying, respecting and protecting the diversity of species and ecosystems that make life on earth possible. Teams of middle school students, guided by a teacher or mentor, are challenged to address the decline in biodiversity by identifying threats to natural resources in their communities and developing innovative solutions. The competition is made possible through the support of Aramco Americas. To learn more, please visit www.ourechochallenge.org.

«During last year’s inaugural OurEcho Challenge we were blown away by the ingenuity, passion and determination of young leaders ready, willing and able to take on the growing global decline of biodiversity,» said Philippe Cousteau, Jr., founder of EarthEcho International. «The Challenge provides students with a platform to turn their love of nature into a plan of action to support the diverse native species and habitats that exist in their own communities and to inspire others to do the same.»

This spring, EarthEcho will select 10 finalist teams to compete for three project grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to turn their ideas into reality.  Student teams submitting entries will:

  • EXPLORE natural resources in their community and region with the help of the free online student and educator resources at www.OurEchoChallenge.org;
  • IDENTIFY threats to local ecosystems and biodiversity in their community;
  • SOLVE the problem with a process or prototype to help repair or maintain biodiversity in their community; and
  • SHARE a narrative entry at www.ourechochallenge.org describing the proposed solution on or before April 22, 2021.

«We are pleased to again support the OurEcho Challenge and its role in inspiring the next generation to apply their creativity and talent to finding environmental solutions,» said Nabeel I. AlAfaleg, president & CEO of Aramco Americas.  «As a company committed to engineering and innovation, we look forward to supporting the competition and seeing great ideas become reality.»

The 10 finalist teams will have from May 7 – June 4 to draft a final presentation and/or prototype of the projects. The teams will prepare a recorded presentation that will be presented to a panel of expert judges. Each team, and their mentor, will join EarthEcho International virtually on June 11, 2021 to present their ideas to restore and protect local biodiversity. The top three teams will be awarded grants to turn their projects into a reality.

The Importance of Biodiversity

Native animal and plant species are declining at an alarming rate. The future of our planet and humankind depends on healthy ecosystems with thriving and diverse wildlife populations. Recent studies underscore the need for innovative solutions and action now:

  • 1 million animal and plant species are at risk of extinction.
  • 75% of the land environment and some 66% of the marine environment have been «significantly altered by human actions.»
  • Up to $577 billion in annual global crops are at risk from pollinator loss.
  • Since 1970, 50% of the world’s wildlife has vanished, including 3 billion birds in North America alone.

Hyzon Motors and Hiringa Energy advance partnership to decarbonize heavy road transport in New Zealand

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Hyzon Motors Inc. («Hyzon») and New Zealand’s Hiringa Energy («Hiringa») are pleased to announce the two companies have signed a vehicle supply agreement, with Hyzon commissioned to build and supply Hiringa with zero emission Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV).

The hydrogen fuel cell-powered trucks, to be assembled at Hyzon’s facility in Winschoten, The Netherlands, will be manufactured in full compliance with local New Zealand requirements and the first batch of vehicles are expected to enter service in New Zealand by the end of 2021. Hyzon plans to have up to 1,500 fuel cell trucks on the road in New Zealand by 2026 as part of the agreement with Hiringa.

This follows Hyzon’s announcement on February 9, 2021 that it had entered into a merger agreement with Decarbonization Plus Acquisition Corporation (Nasdaq: DCRB, DCRBU, DCRBW).

The vehicle supply agreement builds on the signing of a Heads of Agreement between the two companies in August 2020, and sets Hyzon and Hiringa on an ambitious path towards decarbonizing the New Zealand heavy transport sector through cooperation on hydrogen infrastructure and heavy-duty fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) deployment.

Hyzon will leverage its team’s deep experience in the development and deployment of world-class fuel cell equipment in trucks internationally, to bring zero emission transport technology to New Zealand. Meanwhile, as part of the agreement, Hiringa will build a green hydrogen refuelling network for vehicle fuel supply, to establish New Zealand as the global benchmark in fuel cell-powered logistics.

Hyzon’s FCEVs will be powered by green hydrogen supplied through Hiringa’s nationwide refueling infrastructure. The network is on track to commence refuelling operations in 2021, expanding to eight hydrogen stations across New Zealand’s North and South Islands in 2022, servicing 100% of the North Island and 82% of the South Island’s heavy freight routes. The Hyzon FCEV trucks are designed to meet New Zealand road requirements and the demands of heavy freight applications.

The trucks will be built in a 6×4 configuration, will include a sleeper cab option and will have a Gross Combination Mass (GCM) of 58 metric tonnes (64 US tons) and range of 680km (423 mi). In addition to the enormous clean energy output benefits, one of the key highlights of Hyzon’s hydrogen fuel cell-powered trucks are their comparable-to-diesel refuelling times, providing a «drop in» solution for freight operators to replace their diesel fleets.

Hyzon Motors Chief Executive Officer Craig Knight commented, «We see New Zealand as an attractive market for the deployment of our hydrogen fuel cell technology. The hydrogen supply network designed by Hiringa is a key enabler for the realization of our decarbonization strategy. This partnership aims to position New Zealand as a global leader in the adoption of zero emission heavy vehicle technology, and we are pleased to be playing a major role in this transition. Deploying 1,500 fuel cell trucks by 2026 is going to make a massive contribution to local decarbonization efforts.»

Hiringa Chairperson Cathy Clennett said, «This order is a significant milestone and the culmination of many hours of work from the Hyzon and Hiringa teams. We are very excited to have New Zealand road compliant heavy trucks capable of meeting New Zealand’s transport needs arriving in country this year. This is a key step to decarbonizing our road transport, a growing industry that Kiwis rely on everyday as it supplies us with food, products, and essential goods. We are pleased leading New Zealand brands are stepping up to participate in this exciting initiative. Consumers and companies are becoming more aware of emissions and together with Hyzon we are providing kiwi businesses with a viable solution.»

Hiringa Chief Executive Officer Andrew Clennett said, «This is the next step in our strategy to roll out over 1,500 heavy FCEVs by 2026; alongside our partners, we are driving the cost of the technology down and unlocking widespread adoption of zero emission heavy transport for New Zealanders.»
