PORTLAND, Maine, Feb. 9, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Ocean Visions has convened a panel of experts from leading ocean-research and academic institutions to work with Running Tide to further evaluate and advise on Running Tide’s ocean-based climate solution that uses kelp for carbon dioxide removal (CDR). The proposed solution has potential for gigaton-scale sequestration, a leap towards maintaining liveable conditions on Earth.

«Ocean Visions involvement is critical to our mission at Running Tide,» says Marty Odlin, Running Tide CEO and Founder. «Collaborations between academia and our team will expedite our goal of removing carbon dioxide on the gigaton scale in the coming years.»

Running Tide’s world class design, engineering, and ocean science teams will be working directly with this independent panel of scientific experts to improve the quality and integrity of Running Tide’s data gathering and analysis efforts.

Running Tide’s proprietary systems accelerate the natural process of seaweed sinking to the deep ocean, acting as a safe and permanent geological carbon sink. Running Tide is seeding microfarms of kelp, a macroalgae, in a number of onshore and offshore experiments. Proven expertise in ocean safe materials engineering and robust machine learning models allow Running Tide to avoid negative secondary ecological impacts and determine where the microfarms sink to maximize sequestered carbon. Using the power of the sun, ocean currents, and gravity, Running Tide promises to be the most efficient carbon capture system in the world.

The panel identified by Ocean Visions, convened under a partnership with Grantham Environmental Trust to advance ocean-based climate solutions, will serve as independent advisors to Running Tide, providing both scientific and technical advice. The assembled team will evaluate Running Tide innovations, advise on methods of field testing, and support impact analysis and optimization. Ocean Visions’ independent evaluation of experiment results will provide external verification of outcomes. Ocean Visions and Running Tide share a common interest to expedite the testing of this kelp solution to determine its role in the fight and reversal of climate change.

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 9, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Your credit report isn’t a parking lot, but that doesn’t stop dishonest collection agencies from treating it like one. Some collection agencies quietly place accounts on your credit report, giving you no warning, hoping you won’t notice until you’re in the middle of a major loan or job application. Under pressure, you’re more likely to pay up without question, so the debt doesn’t keep you from closing on your home, purchasing your car, or getting the job. Here’s what you need to know about debt parking, from myFICO.

For more loan and credit education, visit myFICO’s blog at https://www.myfico.com/credit-education/blog

Parked debts may not be legitimate, and you could be paying for a debt that’s not yours, has already been paid, is outside the legally collectible time period, or is inflated beyond what you originally owed.

Just how bad is debt parking? The Federal Trade Commission recently took action against a debt collection agency that placed close to $100 million worth of fake or questionable accounts onto consumer credit reports and collected more than $24 million. This tactic, known as «debt parking,» violates debt collection and credit reporting laws.

Debt parking isn’t new. In 2014, the National Consumer Law Center recommended some ways the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) could help consumers deal with this unfair collection practice. The recent FTC action is the first of its kind but hopefully not the last.

Signs a Debt Has Been Parked on Your Credit Report

Since debt parking involves collectors covertly placing debts on your credit report, catching this sneaky tactic means being more diligent about monitoring your credit. An unexpected drop in your FICO® Score may be the first clue that a debt has been added to your credit report, especially if you’ve been making your monthly payments on time and you haven’t taken on any new debts. Collection accounts have a big impact on your credit, and your FICO Score can tumble if a new one is added to your credit report.

This shows why it’s so important to check your FICO Score regularly. A significant drop in your score is a sign to inspect your credit report closer for suspicious accounts. Without keeping track of your credit, you may not realize a fake collection account has been placed on your credit report until you apply for a mortgage, car loan, or job and your application is denied.

What Are Your Options?

Be cautious with all debt collection accounts, even if the debt seems familiar. Dig deeper to verify the debt belongs to you, that the amount is correct, that it’s within the timeframe for legal collection, and the collector has the right to collect on it.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act gives you the right to request this proof, in writing, from a debt collector. If the collector can’t cough up adequate proof of the debt, they must stop collecting on it. That includes listing the debt on your credit report.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act gives you the right to dispute inaccurate information that appears on your credit report. The reporting credit bureau is required to investigate the dispute and remove the account if the collection agency doesn’t verify the debt belongs to you.

In addition to monitoring your FICO® Score, check your credit reports from the three major credit bureaus before applying for a loan or job. This way, you can verify the information and clear up inaccuracies before you’re in the middle of the application process, where the stakes are much higher.

Beverage bag-in-box now recycle-ready with Liquibox innovation

RICHMOND, Va., Feb. 9, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Following the recent launch of Liquipure™, a new portfolio of sustainable flexible packaging, Liquibox introduces Liquipure ultra: a recycle-ready bag-in-box bag specially designed for medium to high barrier applications. The campaign tagline, «Sustainably Simple» emphasizes the environmental benefits associated with mono-material flexible packaging.

Liquibox launches Liquipure™ ultra – a mono-material bag-in-box solution for post-mix, juice, water and other liquids.

For decades, products such as post-mix syrups, boxed water and boxed oils required multi-material laminates with nylon or metallized polyester for barrier strength, but the complicated structure makes the packaging extremely difficult to recycle. Liquibox’s new recycle-ready packaging uses advanced resin technology that is ultra-strong to provide reliable product protection, and yet sustainably simple, as the company calls it, to meet recyclability guidelines.

Driven by their company purpose to create a more sustainable future and bring new innovation to the market, Liquibox designed bag-in-box film that would meet guidelines set out by the most influential voices in sustainable packaging such as the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, CEFLEX, and the Association of Plastics Recyclers. Liquipure ultra not only improves recyclability – the mono-material structure also offers other sustainability benefits such as a 22% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when compared to traditional beverage bag-in-box bags.

The revolutionary packaging also checks the box for performance, as Liquipure ultra boasts a higher barrier than alternative nylon structures, allowing customers to extend the shelf life of their products. It meets the mechanical performance standards for beverage bag-in-box packaging, making it ideal for retail, food service or e-commerce use.

Liquipure ultra has already been successfully introduced into the post-mix syrup market, and Liquibox is currently working with customers to offer Liquipure ultra for higher-barrier applications such as wine, juice, and aseptic foods. At this time, Liquipure ultra is available in the U.S. and will reach European customers early in 2021.

With this innovation, Liquibox is driving toward their broader commitment to deliver packaging that is ready for the future. The switch to mono-material packaging is a key step toward improving the state of flexible packaging that fits within new government regulations around the world. It also answers the demands of many customers striving to meet sustainable packaging commitments by 2025 or 2030. Liquibox is excited to share more information on their approach to sustainability in their first Sustainability report which will be released in March 2021.

Prudential Financial names Spirit of Community Class of 2021, celebrating young volunteers for tackling the challenges of a changing world

NEWARK, N.J., Feb. 9, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Prudential Financial today announced its 2021 class of Spirit of Community Awards State Honorees — 102 middle level and high school students from across the United States whose volunteering has addressed critical community needs in a year of upheaval.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards logo

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, conducted annually by Prudential in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), honors students in grades 5-12 for making meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service.

«We created the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards 26 years ago to highlight and support the work of young people taking on the challenges of a changing world – a mission that rings truer than ever given the events of last year,» said Charles Lowrey, Prudential’s chairman and CEO. «We are proud to celebrate the vision and determination of Spirit of Community’s Class of 2021, and all the ways they’re making their communities safer, healthier and more equitable places to live.»

The 2021 State Honorees – the top middle level and high school volunteers from all 50 states and the District of Columbia – were selected for service initiatives completed, at least in part, between the fall of 2019 and the fall of 2020. Selection was based on criteria including impact, effort, initiative and the personal growth demonstrated over the course of the project.

Many of this year’s honorees either directly addressed needs created by the COVID-19 pandemic or adapted existing projects to better accommodate health and safety protocols. Many honorees worked to provide reliable meals to food-insecure households and dismantle barriers to virtual schooling. In the early days of the pandemic, when personal protective equipment was in short supply, one honoree rallied his community to 3D-print thousands of face shields for frontline workers. Several honorees dedicated their efforts to easing the hardship of isolation for nursing home residents. Another created a support network for students of color to share their own experiences in light of the Black Lives Matter movement.

«It speaks volumes about the character of today’s secondary school students that the Spirit of Community program heard from more than 20,000 applicants this fall – most of them stories of young volunteers overcoming the hardships of a global pandemic to support those in need,» said Ronn Nozoe, Chief Executive Officer, NASSP. «While we’re especially proud to celebrate this year’s 102 State Honorees, NASSP applauds every student who’s found a way to volunteer this past year. You inspire your peers and adults alike to remember that, even in times of crisis, we all have something to give.»

Each of the 102 State Honorees named today will receive a $2,500 scholarship, a silver medallion and an invitation to the program’s virtual national recognition celebration in April, where 10 of them will be named America’s top youth volunteers of the year. Those 10 National Honorees will earn an additional $5,000 scholarship, a gold medallion, a crystal trophy for their nominating organization and a $5,000 grant for a nonprofit charitable organization of their choice.
