NACKA STRAND, Sweden, Feb. 3, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Hexagon AB, a global leader in sensor, software and autonomous solutions, today announced the launch of a new sustainability programme with key environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals centred around carbon emissions, supplier audits and gender diversity.

Hexagon’s innovative solutions already contribute to environmental and social sustainability by improving efficiency, quality and safety in a broad array of industries and societal applications. But its sustainability journey is not only determined by the role its solutions play in the market, but also by its own processes and actions. In the context of growing ESG importance and Hexagon’s recent pledge to further its ESG focus, the programme aims to accelerate its commitment to respect planetary boundaries, generate positive social contributions and ensure robust corporate governance. It outlines ESG targets for 2023 and beyond, embracing goals to significantly reduce its carbon footprint, better manage supply chain risks and improve gender balance across leadership positions.

ESG targets include:

  • Carbon neutrality in its scope 1 and 2 emissions – by 2030
  • Carbon neutrality across its entire value chain in scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions – by 2050
  • Sustainability supplier audits across 100 per cent of its direct suppliers, in risk areas – by 2023
  • At least 30 per cent of its leadership positions filled by women – by 2025

The targets will be achieved through various activities – from increasing energy efficiency across its facilities while reducing carbon emissions from business travel and company fleets to an increased focus on sustainability in the product design phase, stronger supplier audit processes, and initiatives that build and nurture an inclusive culture while attracting and retaining diverse talent.

«We are very proud to be an enabler of sustainability, with solutions that solve some of the most urgent challenges of our lifetime. With sustainability at the core of our business, it’s a natural step to set ambitious goals that will contribute to a more sustainable planet,» says Hexagon President and CEO Ola Rollén. «We’re committed to upholding high standards in all sustainability areas, through initiatives that reduce our environmental footprint, better meet customer requests, positively influence recruitment and hiring diversity, generate savings, and fuel innovation.»

Seemingly Oblivious to Global Pandemic and Over Ten Million Unemployed Americans, Biden Forges Ahead with an «America Last» Agenda on Immigration, Says FAIR

WASHINGTON, Feb. 2, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The following statement was issued by Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), in response to yet another flurry of executive actions, triggering a review of how to increase legal and illegal immigration in the middle of a crisis with no end in sight.

Increasing Welfare State Through Potential Elimination of Public Charge:

«Protecting the interests of the American people by barring the admission of immigrants who are likely to become public charges — those who are likely to become dependent on government welfare — has been a cornerstone of U.S. immigration policy since 1882. As part of his ‘America Last’ immigration agenda, President Biden is gearing up to reverse existing policies that protect American taxpayers – and doing so at a time when a raging pandemic is forcing many Americans to rely on social safety nets that can barely keep up with the demands being placed on them,» charged Stein.

Family Reunification Task Force:

«Virtually all of the children who were separated from accompanying adults during the 2019 border surge have been reunited with their parents or legal guardians. The small number who remain separated are because the adults accompanying them were not their parents or guardians, or because their parents chose to leave them in the United States as unaccompanied minors rather than return to their home countries as a family unit. The situation of these children is tragic, but the fault lies with the adults who exploited or abandoned them, not with the policies of the United States,» Stein said

«The administration’s actions are an endorsement of the unbalanced and failed policy of mass family chain migration that dominates our legal immigration system and applies it to our policy of dealing with illegal immigration and human trafficking. Not only will people who immigrate here legally be entitled to reunite with family members they left behind, now illegal aliens will be able to do the same. We all support keeping families united, but there is nothing that says that reunification can only occur in this country,» said Stein.

Supposedly Addressing the Root Causes of Migration:

«Today’s declaration by the Biden administration that the answer to massive surges of people crossing our borders illegally is to ‘address root causes of migration from Central America,’ sets new standards for the high art of bureaucratic obfuscation and eloquently stated gibberish,» declared Stein. «Hubris would be an inadequate description of the assertion that this country, which cannot address many of its own problems, is going to take on the task of solving Central America’s, and perhaps the rest of the world’s problems.

«In essence, Mr. Biden is saying that he has no intention of ever securing America’s borders or preventing mass incursions of migrants, and that American taxpayers will continue to subsidize failing foreign economies and substandard living conditions through magnetic U.S. immigration policies.

«Additionally, while futilely attempting to address the root causes of migration in dozens of countries around the world, the Biden administration is ignoring, or exacerbating, the ‘pull factors’ over which it has full control. In the first weeks of his administration, President Biden has clearly signaled that sanctuary policies will be strengthened, access to public benefits will be increased, asylum fraud will be rewarded, and detentions and removals will all but cease.»

More Asylum Seekers During a Global Pandemic:

«This executive order displays the same level of tone deafness seen in the previous immigration-related actions taken last week.  Simply put, putting Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) on the chopping block in the middle of a pandemic is not in the national interest. American families have been put into lockdown for nearly a year now, hoping for a return to normalcy. It’s also important to note that both the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) are discouraging traveling during the pandemic. Those seeking admission as asylum seekers into the U.S. should be asked to remain in place until this health crisis, soon to claim 500,000 American lives, passes.»

LONGi launches new 66C type Hi-MO 4m module for global distributed generation (DG) market

XI’AN, China, Feb. 2, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — LONGi, the world leading solar technology company headquartered in Xi’an, China, has officially launched its new 66C type Hi-MO 4 monofacial PV module (Hi-MO 4m) for the global distributed generation (DG) market. With an area of about 2 m2, weight of 22kg and power of 410-420W, the new module can be widely used on rooftops in residential, industrial and…

With an area of about 2 m2, weight of 22kg and power of 410-420W, the new module can be widely used on rooftops in residential, industrial and commercial applications.

In early 2019, LONGi launched its Hi-MO 4 series high-efficiency PV modules for full scenario applications based on the M6 (166mm) standard monocrystalline wafer and PERC technology. Within a year of mass production, the Hi-MO 4 series achieved the remarkable milestone of 10GW in global shipments, gaining wide industry acceptance and confidence.

As the world approaches the era of grid parity in 2021, LONGi has re-focused on the specific demands of the DG market with a view to delivering value for customers in the sector with new innovative products.

In addition to 66C, the Hi-MO 4m series also offers 60C and 72C types. These three products cover power ranges of 370-385w, 410-420W and 450-460W, with maximum efficiency of up to 21%, providing DG users with wider flexibility and options. With high performance and an aesthetically pleasing appearance, the Hi-MO 4m module combines the advantages of high efficiency, high energy yield and high reliability. Its size and weight are designed to match the requirements of DG system installations and application scenarios.

Hi-MO 4m series modules

Application scenario: Residential Rooftops
Flexible matching & efficient capacity expansion

For the residential market, the Hi-MO 4m 60C module (area of 1.82 m2, weight of 19.5kg, width of 1.04m) is most suitable in terms of convenient installation due to its moderate size and weight.

In some countries and regions, modules of larger size and weight can also be installed on residential roofs. LONGi therefore also provides 66C (22.0kg) and 72C (23.5kg) options. The width of the module is standardized, while three different length options allow the Hi-MO 4m series to maximize the photovoltaic system’s installation capacity in residential rooftops.

Application scenario: Industrial and Commercial roofs
Safe and reliable product for robust gains

The Hi-MO 4m 72C type module is suitable for use on industrial and commercial roofs.

In terms of installation type, in addition to tiling installation on inclined roofs and installation with the optimal inclination angle on flat roofs, the «4-point installation on short frame» on flat roofs is adopted in some developed countries for lower installation cost and improved system capacity. In this special application scenario, the Hi-MO 4m 66C format module outperforms other modules. Compared with conventional module products, it not only achieves stable and efficient power output, but also has higher resistance to wind and snow loads.

Hi-MO 4m series modules
Quality and value in the distributed generation market

Distributed generation products can be key in enabling PV to enter thousands of households and the high value of the Hi-MO 4m series modules will offer global DG users new choices and flexibility, matched with high quality and value.

In terms of electrical matching, the current at maximum power of the Hi-MO 4m module is lower than 11A, which is a perfect match for the various brands of string inverters, power optimizers and micro inverters available worldwide. It makes full use of the design margin of the equipment and avoids the loss of power generation or mismatch caused by current limiting.

LONGi modules are known for their excellent energy yield performance and product quality, aspects which have been validated by the global market and authoritative third-party institutions:

  • In PV Magazine tests, the outdoor energy yield of LONGi’s monofacial and bifacial modules was significantly higher than that of similar products;
  • In outdoor energy yield simulations under TÜV Rheinland’s «All Quality Matters» evaluation, LONGi has won awards in numerous consecutive years, securing the award in 2020 for both monofacial and bifacial module groups.
  • In the 2019 Renewable Energy Test Center (RETC) PV Module Index report, LONGi was one of only two high achiever companies, by virtue of the reliability, performance and quality of its products. In 2020, LONGi became the only manufacturer to achieve excellence scores in all eight test indicators.

LONGi will expand the capacity of its dedicated DG production line to 10GW in 2021.

About LONGi

LONGi leads the solar PV industry to new heights with its product innovations and optimized power-cost ratio with breakthrough monocrystalline technologies. The company supplies more than 30GW of high-efficiency solar wafers and modules worldwide each year, about a quarter of global market demand. LONGi is recognized as the world’s most valuable solar technology company with the highest market value. Innovation and sustainable development are two of the company’s core values. New Law Gives Big Boost To Restoration And Protection Of Bay, Delta

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 2, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Federal support for protection and restoration of the San Francisco Bay-Delta Estuary could nearly double in coming years following enactment last month of the Protect and Restore America’s Estuaries Act.

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 2, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Federal support for protection and restoration of the San Francisco Bay-Delta Estuary could nearly double in coming years following enactment last month of the Protect and Restore America’s Estuaries Act.

As one of 28 «estuaries of national significance» eligible for funding through the new law, the San Francisco Estuary and other estuaries along every U.S. coast each may now receive as much as $1 million a year in federal aid. This compares to just over $650,000 appropriated by Congress in fiscal 2020 to the San Francisco Estuary Partnership for protection and restoration of the San Francisco Estuary.

Passed with strong bipartisan support and unanimous approval from the Senate, the Protect and Restore America’s Estuaries Act reaffirms support of the National Estuary Program. Rep. Jackie Speier (D-San Mateo) noted, «For years we’ve taken advantage of the environmental splendors and economic growth provided by our nation’s estuaries without putting in the requisite work to protect them. The growing threat of climate change demands the federal government’s attention and this legislation helps provide a meaningful response. With double the annual funding limit of $50 million, the National Estuary Program can better support revitalization efforts for the San Francisco Bay and the nation’s 27 other estuaries of significance.»

Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.), a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, was the original sponsor of the Protect and Restore America’s Estuaries bill, which was introduced in July 2019. Rep. Malinowski said, «Estuaries nurture a vast array of marine life, filter pollutants from rivers before they reach the sea, and are the natural infrastructure that protects human communities from floods and storms. As extreme weather events increasingly threaten these nurseries of the sea, I’m very proud this important legislation was signed into law so these critical waterways will continue to be protected.»

The San Francisco Estuary Partnership works with communities at the local level to protect coastal resources essential for tourism, commerce, storm protection and clean water. In 2019, the Partnership passed more than $15 million in funding to local partners for on-the-ground projects ranging from water efficiency improvements and green infrastructure projects to fish passage, habitat and floodplain restoration projects.

«The San Francisco Estuary Partnership leverages $26 for every $1 of federal funding to adapt and prepare for the impacts of climate change and sea level rise on our vulnerable human and wildlife communities. Many areas of the Estuary are already feeling these impacts, making the new funding limit even more essential and timely,» said Caitlin Sweeney, Director of the San Francisco Estuary Partnership. «We greatly appreciate the strong support from our Senators and Representatives for the important work being done in our estuary through our program and in collaboration with so many partners across sectors.»

The San Francisco Estuary Partnership collaborates with regional planning organizations, volunteer groups, community-based organizations, scientific research organizations, government regulatory and non-regulatory agencies, and many others to successfully implement multi-benefit projects for a healthier, more resilient Estuary.

Boyne Resorts Moves To 100% Renewable Electric Energy Across North American Operations

BOYNE FALLS, Mich., Feb. 2, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Boyne Resorts today announced a renewable energy purchase commitment with CMS Enterprises, a CMS Energy subsidiary, that entirely offsets electric energy consumption at its resorts and facilities throughout North America as of Jan. 1, 2021.

The purchase is among numerous environmental initiatives and newly established goals that are part of the company’s evolving, long-term sustainability plan, named «ForeverProject». The plan’s marquee goal is to achieve net zero emissions by 2030 and working with CMS Enterprises accelerated the effort by eliminating approximately 70% of the company’s carbon footprint driven by its electrical usage. Additionally, a 1.7-megawatt solar array will be installed at Boyne Mountain Resort in collaboration with a separate CMS Energy subsidiary.

«Human driven climate change is an urgent issue for the world and most certainly for the snowsports industry. Though we have been a thoughtful steward of our resort properties over the last eight decades, it was clear to our team that we were not doing enough and fast enough if we are to truly help reverse the effects our carbon footprint has on the planet’s climate,» said Stephen Kircher, Boyne Resorts president and chief executive officer. «Our commitments guiding ForeverProject, starting with moving to 100 percent renewable electric energy, reduce a significant portion of our carbon footprint and give us a huge head start on our efforts to become completely carbon neutral by 2030. We have always tried to take the long-term perspective on our business and this environmental sustainability initiative steps up our efforts to positively affect the lasting implications our resorts, team members and guests have on the planet.»

The new level of urgency was initiated in October 2019, in part facilitated by Boyne Resorts’ sponsorship of and involvement in the Mountain Towns 2030 Net Zero Summit, through collaborative discussions with the ski industry’s largest players who have shown leadership by aggressively embracing sustainability efforts, and the rollout of NSAA’s (National Ski Area Association) Sustainable Slopes initiatives. CMS Energy is a longtime energy provider to Boyne Resorts’ Michigan operations and following the Net Zero Summit, discussions between the two began in earnest, culminating in this significant and impactful clean energy arrangement.

CMS Enterprises develops, owns and operates utility-scale wind, solar and energy projects for large customers. CMS Enterprises will tap its in-house energy marketing group and U.S.-based clean energy portfolio to help Boyne Resorts capture renewable energy credits (RECs). The RECs will help Boyne substantiate renewable energy use claims and maximize value for its renewable energy investment.

Through facilitation of the RECs purchase, sharing baseline and consumption tracking models now utilized companywide and leading additional projects to support the company’s goals, CMS Enterprises is today regarded as a true partner on both a regional scale and to Boyne Resorts globally.

«CMS Enterprises is proud to help Boyne Resorts power its facilities in Michigan and throughout North America with renewable and clean energy,» said DV Rao, Senior Vice President of Strategy for CMS Energy. «Through implementation of energy efficiency programs, the electrification of Boyne’s vehicle fleet, on-site solar generation and other advances on tap in Michigan, Boyne Resorts is poised to become an industry leader in clean and renewable energy and sustainability.»

Preparations are underway for the solar array being installed by a CMS Energy subsidiary at Boyne Mountain Resort. The 1.7-megawatt system stands to power the equivalence of the resort’s 300+ homes and condominiums, and is the first of its size for Boyne Resorts. Solar is a resource of strong interest and this project is to serve as a pilot for potential installations at locations across the resort network.
