BOSTON, Dec. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Enel, through its US renewable subsidiary Enel Green Power North America, has begun operating a 199 MW expansion of the Cimarron Bend wind farm in Clark County, Kansas, making the overall 599 MW facility the largest renewable plant owned by the Enel Group currently in operation worldwide. The 236.5 MW White Cloud wind farm also began operations in Nodaway County, Missouri. The two wind farms bring Enel’s total renewable capacity added in 2020 across the US and Canada to 865 MW. The investment in the construction of White Cloud amounts to around 380 million US dollars, while that of the Cimarron Bend expansion amounts to over 281 million US dollars.

The start of operations at the Cimarron Bend expansion, on which construction began in the second quarter of 2020, further cements Enel Green Power’s status as the largest wind operator in Kansas by managed capacity. The overall 599 MW facility is expected to generate a total of more than 2.7 TWh per year, equivalent to avoiding around 1.7 million tons of CO2 emissions. Enel will sell the facility’s energy output through a 150 MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Evergy, an investor-owned utility based in Kansas City (Missouri), and a 30 MW PPA with the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission (MJMEUC), a joint action agency[1] of the Missouri Public Utility Alliance (MPUA)[2].

White Cloud, on which construction began in summer 2019, is due to generate around 950 GWh annually while avoiding the emission of more than 621,000 tons of CO2 per year. Enel Green Power North America signed a PPA with Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. (AECI) in which the Springfield (Missouri)-based electric cooperative will purchase the entire energy output from the plant.

In Missouri, Enel also operates the 300 MW Rock Creek wind farm in Atchison County which sells its entire output to Evergy.

The construction process for Cimarron Bend and White Cloud followed Enel Green Power’s Sustainable Construction Site model, a collection of best practices aimed at minimizing the impact of plant construction on the environment. The Cimarron Bend construction site team adopted a recycling program and is set to be donating office supplies as well as equipment to local schools in need with the aim to extend the products’ useful lives alongside diverting them from landfills. The White Cloud operations and maintenance (O&M) building is a refurbished and repurposed space, an approach adopted to reduce the costs and environmental impact from construction of new O&M buildings.

In the final stages of construction, Enel closely monitored the emergent COVID-19 pandemic and responded to protect the health of its workers and the community. While abiding by the guidance of public officials, the company implemented strict travel guidelines and enhanced sanitation, as crews implemented safe working habits and physical distancing instructions. Furthermore, Enel North America announced over 1.3 million US dollars in contributions to relief efforts across the US and Canada.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — LendingTree® analyzed data from over 29,000 anonymized transactions to track spending habits of last-minute holiday shoppers in the week leading up to Christmas in 2019 to better understand what last-minute shoppers where buying and how much they were spending. Additionally, LendingTree will update the report to reflect 2020 trends for last-minute shoppers this Holiday season once the data is available.

Key Findings:

  • Sporting goods and toys were at the top of last-minute shoppers’ lists in 2019. On Dec. 23 and Dec. 24, the number of sporting goods and toy shoppers were 194% and 193% higher, respectively, than the monthly average.
  • Shoppers spent the most at outlet stores during the last-minute gift-buying rush. On Dec. 23 and Dec. 24, 2019, the average shopper spent $266 at outlet stores. Spending at jewelers and watchmakers was next, averaging $231 a purchase during the two-day period.
  • Compared to average spending in December 2019, florists saw the biggest spending increase among last-minute shoppers. The average spent at florists on Dec. 23 and 24 was $219, more than twice the usual December spend of $97.
  • The number of shoppers on Dec. 24 (a  Tuesday) was up 20% compared to the other Tuesdays that month — the highest of any December day in 2019. Up next was Dec. 23 (a Monday), where the number of shoppers was up 10% compared to the other Mondays that month.

In an earlier survey, LendingTree found that while 25% of consumers already finished their holiday shopping as of October 2020, another 19% said that they typically  wait until the last minute to shop. Additionally, nearly a third of consumers (31%) expect to go into holiday shopping debt this year. Among those who were laid off or furloughed because of the pandemic, 47% expect to go into holiday shopping debt compared to 18% of those who did not their income impacted this year.

Evaluación de la FDA de los datos de seguridad disponibles

La vacuna contra el COVID-19 de Moderna se administra en una serie de dos dosis, con un intervalo de un mes. Los datos de seguridad disponibles para apoyar la EUA incluyen un análisis de 30,351 participantes inscritos en un estudio en curso, aleatorio y controlado por placebo, realizado en los EE.UU. A estos participantes, 15,185 de los cuales recibieron la vacuna y 15,166 de los cuales recibieron un placebo salino, se les dio seguimiento durante una mediana de más de dos meses después de recibir la segunda dosis. Los efectos secundarios más comúnmente reportados, que típicamente duraron varios días, fueron dolor en el lugar de la inyección, cansancio, dolor de cabeza, dolor muscular, escalofríos, dolor en las articulaciones,  ganglios linfáticos inflamados en el mismo brazo de la inyección, náuseas y vómitos, y fiebre. Cabe señalar que más personas experimentaron estos efectos secundarios después de la segunda dosis que después de la primera, por lo que es importante que los proveedores y los receptores de las vacunas esperen que pueda haber algunos efectos secundarios después de cualquiera de las dos dosis, pero aún más después de la segunda dosis.   

Es obligatorio que ModernaTX, Inc. y los proveedores de vacunas informen lo siguiente al Sistema de notificación de eventos adversos de las vacunas (VAERS, por sus siglas en inglés) para la vacuna contra el COVID-19 de Moderna: todos los errores en la administración de la vacuna, eventos adversos graves, casos de Síndrome inflamatorio multisistémico (MIS, por sus siglas en inglés) y casos del COVID-19 que resulten en hospitalización o muerte. 

Evaluación de la FDA de los datos de eficacia disponibles

Los datos sobre la eficacia en apoyo de la EUA incluyen un análisis de 28, 207 participantes en el estudio en curso, aleatorio y controlado por placebo, realizado en los EE.UU., que no tenían pruebas de infección por el SARS-CoV-2 antes de recibir la primera dosis de la vacuna. Entre esos participantes, 14,134 recibieron la vacuna y 14,073 recibieron un placebo. La vacuna tuvo una eficacia del 94.1% en la prevención de la enfermedad del COVID-19 entre estos participantes del ensayo clínico, con 11 casos del COVID-19 en el grupo de la vacuna y 185 en el grupo del placebo. En el momento del análisis de estos 196 casos del COVID-19, ninguno en el grupo de la vacuna y 30 en el grupo del placebo fueron clasificados como graves. Después de que el análisis de estos 196 casos se completó, se identificó un caso grave en el grupo de la vacuna y está esperando confirmación. En este momento, no se dispone de datos para determinar por cuánto tiempo la vacuna ofrecerá protección, ni hay pruebas de que la vacuna prevenga la transmisión del SARS-CoV-2 de una persona a otra.

El proceso de la EUA

Basándose en la determinación del secretario del Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos del 4 de febrero de 2020, de que existe una emergencia de salud pública con un potencial significativo de afectar a la seguridad nacional, o a la salud y seguridad de los ciudadanos de los Estados Unidos que viven en el extranjero, y de que existen circunstancias que justifican la autorización del uso de emergencia de productos no aprobados, la FDA puede emitir una EUA para permitir que se utilicen en una emergencia productos médicos no aprobados o usos no aprobados de productos médicos aprobados para diagnosticar, tratar o prevenir el COVID-19 cuando no haya alternativas adecuadas, aprobadas y disponibles.

La emisión de una EUA es diferente a la aprobación (licencia) de la FDA de una vacuna. Al determinar si se emite una EUA para un producto, la FDA evalúa las pruebas disponibles y analiza cualquier riesgo conocido o potencial y cualquier beneficio conocido o potencial, y si la evaluación de beneficios y riesgos es favorable, el producto se pone a disposición durante la emergencia. Una vez que un fabricante presenta a la FDA una solicitud de EUA para una vacuna contra el COVID-19, la agencia evalúa la solicitud y determina si se cumplen los criterios reglamentarios pertinentes, teniendo en cuenta la totalidad de las pruebas científicas sobre la vacuna que están a disposición de la FDA.

The gown fabric, a 65/35% polyester/cotton blend, is made in the USA (cut/sewn in Mexico or Nicaragua).  This reusable AAMI PB70 Barrier Protection Level 1 Isolation gown has been authorized by the FDA under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for use as PPE in healthcare settings.

Restoration Not Destruction

The Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve in Playa del Rey is home to 1,700 species of wildlife and flora, including threatened and endangered species. Owls, egrets, foxes, skunks, pelicans, herons and many other species call it home. Ballona is a crucial landing spot for migratory birds.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has proposed a plan (Options, 1, 2, and 3) that would bulldoze over most of this fragile ecological reserve, about 640 acres or a square mile. It would cost 250 million public dollars and last more than nine years. This plan is falsely described as a restoration. In fact, if carried out, the department would obliterate the very animal and plant species it is charged to protect.

A Kinder Option: Gentle Restoration, Option 4

Opponents of this counterfeit restoration are now offering a detailed 20-point alternative plan. This Gentle Restoration plan, which would fall under Option 4, would avoid the extermination of fragile wildlife at a time when wildfires and developments are destroying habitats across California. The plan would offer mindful public access and foster native species of wildlife and plants.

Instead of a new 300-car parking structure, which is in the bulldozing plan, the Gentle Restoration would make effective use of many existing public parking lots near the Ballona Wetlands.

The alternative plan would: upgrade existing wetlands trails, create educational tours with kiosks showing the rich history of the indigenous people, create trash removal and beautification teams, create tree and plant nurseries, and organize teams of specialists to foster support for endangered species and recover additional species that were historically at Ballona.

Governor Newsom has called for nature-based solutions in the midst of a climate crisis. The Gentle Restoration, Option 4, is that nature-based solution, at a fraction of the cost. Wrecking balls are 20th century. Mindful public access and gentle restoration is the 21st century solution.

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Omni Cultural TV Fest (OCTVF) and S.T.R.E.A.M. Global Innovations joined forces on Dec. 8 on a groundbreaking avatar-populated virtual festival.

The Second Annual OCTVF was hosted in partnership with NATPE (The National Association of Television Program Executives) and S.T.R.E.A.M. Global Innovations, a non-profit educational organization that supports underserved communities. The all-day expo featured back-to-back panels, screenings, an award show and after-party in an interactive virtual world with personalized avatars.

At the after-party, guests mingled with Kool from Kool and The Gang and Hanna El Bayeh, and danced to performances by Sandra G. and James Maslow. Vicki Barbolak («America’s Got Talent») hosted the award show.

The event was designed to connect a diverse group of filmmakers and creatives with buyers, distributors, studios and networks in a socially-distanced environment. Participants from around the world gave the event enthusiastic reviews.

I actually watched for 14 hours straight in my pajamas,» said Adeline Ferro, Executive Producer of «Mambochella,» (Official Selection/Documentary). «The panels were superb, the screenings and award show were exciting, and the party made me feel like I had gone out for the first time since the pandemic.» 

Geoff Silverman, Partner at The Cartel Agency was one of many executives who made successful connections. He commented, «I found all the creative talent to be fresh, diverse and ground breaking new voices. In fact, I am now in representation talks with a few of these fantastic creators.»

The festival had over 1,200 log-ins, with 196 guests interacting and navigating their avatar for the entire 14-hour day.
