CHICAGO, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — 42 Lines, a leader in custom edtech development and creator of the Harmonize online discussion platform, today announced that a new Chat feature is now available to Harmonize users. Participants in a Harmonize online discussion can now collaborate in real time directly in the platform.

«We introduced Harmonize Chat to give students and instructors using Harmonize another way to engage with each other,» said Marcus Popetz, CEO of 42 Lines. «Right now, colleges and universities are looking for new ways to manage the classroom experience. This is one important way institutions can build bridges between an asynchronous learning environment and those ‘real-time’ synchronous experiences that students often expect,» he said.

Because Harmonize Chat is accessible directly from the Harmonize online discussion, students can easily engage with other members of their class without searching across multiple applications. Presence indicators let Harmonize users know the online status of their classmates. A student or instructor can quickly scan for other students who may be online to say hello or start a conversation.

Harmonize Chat supports many of the features found in the Harmonize online discussion platform. Students can upload images, URLs, videos, or files, such as Word docs or PDFs. Harmonize Chat supports both individual and group chats directly from the discussion board. Students and faculty can chat one-on-one with one another to quickly clarify something in a discussion post or augment asynchronous online discussions with a real-time group chat.

«We conceived of Harmonize Chat as another way for students and instructors to stay connected at a time when our ability to engage face-to-face is shifting,» said Popetz. «At a time when students might be feeling socially isolated, it’s one more way technology is helping them succeed.»

As institutions across the country ready themselves for the fall term, they will need a broader set of tools to support their long-term goals. Harmonize Chat offers a simple way for students to make more meaningful connections with each other and with their instructors.

Abuelo’s Guests Can Donate to Help End Childhood Hunger and Receive Free Signature Queso in a Back-to-School Week Fundraiser

PLANO, Texas, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant, famous for its authentic, made-from-scratch Mexican cuisine, today announced a back-to-school week fundraiser to help end childhood hunger. Guests who donate $2 or more to No Kid Hungry while dining at any Abuelo’s location…

PLANO, Texas, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant, famous for its authentic, made-from-scratch Mexican cuisine, today announced a back-to-school week fundraiser to help end childhood hunger. Guests who donate $2 or more to No Kid Hungry while dining at any Abuelo’s location August 9-15 will receive a Free Queso VIP Card that they can redeem for an order of Abuelo’s creamy, handcrafted queso on their next visit, valid through September 30.

No Kid Hungry is a national campaign to end childhood hunger in America. Before COVID-19 hit, millions of children were already living with hunger and relied on school for food. When schools closed and with many parents out of work, more children may be facing hunger than ever before. But No Kid Hungry is stepping up to help feed them. Since March, No Kid Hungry has sent nearly $27 million in emergency grants to schools and community organizations across all 50 states to ensure kids are getting the meals they need.

«We’ve teamed up with No Kid Hungry before and raised thousands of dollars to help eradicate childhood hunger,» said Robert Lin, President of Abuelo’s. «But the economic fallout from the pandemic makes the need greater than ever right now, so we’re proud to partner with No Kid Hungry again on this back-to-school promotion. Support for our communities is a core part of the Abuelo’s culture, and we’re excited to do our part to help with this important cause.»

A new report from No Kid Hungry, The Longest Summer: Childhood Hunger in the Wake of Coronavirus, underscores the urgent need to help families, many of whom are skipping bills and rationing food because of pandemic-related job losses. The report found that during the COVID-19 crisis, 47% of American families are living with hunger. The problem is even worse among Black and Latino families, where more than half face food insecurity.

«Millions of families were already struggling to keep their kids fed during the summer months due to the lack of access to school meals,» said Diana Hovey, Senior Vice President, Corporate Partnerships of No Kid Hungry. «In just months, the pandemic has set back ten years of progress in the fight to end childhood hunger. That makes our mission to feed hungry kids even more urgent, and we’re grateful to Abuelo’s and their guests for their support.»

There’s no more important school supply than nutritious food, and Abuelo’s back-to-school fundraiser will help raise money to provide meals for kids, wherever they may be learning this fall. Learn more at www.nokidhungry.org.

Object Management Group Invites Industry Input for a New Specification: Standard Business Report Model

NEEDHAM, Mass., Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — International technology standards consortium Object Management Group® (OMG®) is overseeing the development of a new specification named Standard Business Report Model (SBRM), and has re-opened the request for proposal (RFP) to gain input from a wider range of industry voices. SBRM will complement existing mechanisms for representing structured data while providing interoperability with current business report definitions and submissions. The RFP seeks submissions that complement established mechanisms for representation of structured data files submitted as business reports, for example, financial reports, or environmental reporting.
In most countries, organizations are required to submit formal information to regulators regarding their business or financial performance, compliance, and exposure. These reports traditionally follow standard forms or templates defined by each regulator, often requiring error-prone and time-consuming manual data entry. Artificial intelligence, distributed ledgers, and machine-readable structured information offer unprecedented opportunities to automate many information exchanges within and between organizations.

«Netherlands and Australia have already started leading the way on standard reporting that has reduced filing and processing costs by billions of dollars,» said Dr. Jason McC. Smith, OMG Vice President, Technical Director. «SBRM will show the anatomy of a business report in both human-readable and machine-readable models that can leverage current standards like the eXtensible Business Reporting Language while achieving full interoperability.»

«Several U.S. government entities are counting on the upcoming standard to improve the quality, consistency and interpretation of financial reports. These include the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, the U.S. Government Accountability Office, the Department of Treasury, the U.S. Office of Financial Research, and the Data Coalition,» said Claude Baudoin, Co-chair of the OMG Business Modeling and Integration Domain Task Force. «In addition, there are many other types of reports, for example, on security or environmental risks, that will also benefit from such a standard. Every country in the world, not just the U.S., is facing similar needs.»

Some of the requirements for SBRM are to:

  • Apply a business modeling approach to report definition, making reports easier to develop;
  • Enable business-level expression of rules in order to manage quality;
  • Facilitate reuse of information across multiple reports;
  • Allow use with industry- or enterprise-standard information models and ontologies;
  • Allow direct linkage with enterprise information sources for report data;
  • Provide alternative formats for reports to allow access by a greater variety of analytical tools.

Both members and non-members of OMG may show their interest in participating in the process by submitting a Letter of Intent by November 9, 2020. To submit individually or as part of a submission team, companies must become members of OMG by the initial submission deadline, which is also November 9, 2020.» For more information about the Standard Business Report Model RFP, visit https://www.omg.org/hot-topics/standard-business-report-model.htm.

ARES Security Adds Virtual Training Modules to the AVERT Suite of Security Software Solutions

VIENNA, Va., Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ –Building upon its success supplying software to meet physical security assessment and integrated C2 requirements across Government, Defense, Energy, Transportation, Critical Infrastructure and Commercial Sectors, ARES Security today announced the addition of Virtual Tabletop and Virtual Reality Training modules to the AVERT portfolio.

VIENNA, Va., Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ –Building upon its success supplying software to meet physical security assessment and integrated C2 requirements across Government, Defense, Energy, Transportation, Critical Infrastructure and Commercial Sectors, ARES Security today announced the addition of Virtual Tabletop and Virtual Reality Training modules to the AVERT portfolio.

Scheduled or mandated training is an integral part of the security lifecycle in high threat environments and is necessary to ensure that an organization’s security and response plans are suitable for responding to relevant threats. Traditional Tabletop Training requires the physical presence of Facilitators and Blue/Red Force participants and relies on manual simulation methodologies. Beyond the inherent limitations of this traditional approach, security organizations now face the added challenge of maintaining readiness during a Global Pandemic where the concept of meetings has shifted dramatically from in-person to remote participation. AVERT Virtual Tabletop («AVERT-VT») and Virtual Reality («AVERT-VR») software training solutions bridge this gap.

AVERT-VT is a tool for security and emergency response leadership that improves the effectiveness of traditional tabletop exercises. AVERT-VT combines realistic threat scenarios generated in a modeling-simulation engine with a high-fidelity user interface that allows participants to test and evaluate decision-making and response scenarios against complex threats. «Digital Twin» models of a site/complex are reconstructed to incorporate building exteriors, interiors, detection and delay systems coupled with standard operating procedures. Advanced threat scenarios are then simulated in the DHS SAFETY Act Certified AVERT Mod/Sim engine. Upon completion, clients can use the validated threat simulations to drive their tabletop exercise.

AVERT-VR takes training a step further by providing a complete immersive environment that is more interactive, realistic, and measurable. Trainees experience high fidelity, 3-D visualizations of the physical environment while responding to simulated threat scenarios from either a desktop or through wearables. The result is a more interactive training environment that provides quantifiable results for post exercise assessment of individual or joint response performance.

«We are pleased to build upon our past successes delivering AVERT Design, Assessment and Integrated C2 solutions by now offering training tools that allow our clients to leverage their current investment and provide a greatly improved training experience that quantifiably increases the security posture of the organization,» stated Ben Eazzetta, CEO of ARES Security. «This technology was originally fielded as part of the USAF’s AFWERX SBIR Program and is currently being deployed throughout the US Commercial Nuclear market.»

SOMERSET, N.J., Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Catalent, the leading global provider of advanced delivery technologies, development, and manufacturing solutions for drugs, biologics, cell and gene therapies, and consumer health products, today announced that it was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to produce commercial drug substance intermediate for AveXis’ spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) gene therapy at its manufacturing facility located in Harmans, Maryland.

The approval comes after an FDA inspection of the Harmans state-of-the-art, commercial-scale gene therapy manufacturing center in June 2020. Since Catalent’s partnership with AveXis, a Novartis company, was announced in July 2019, dedicated suite space has been prepared at the Harmans facility for the commercial manufacture of this adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapy.

«This is a significant milestone for Catalent and the gene therapy industry as a whole. Catalent is proud to be the first contract development and manufacturing organization to be approved for commercial gene therapy production,» commented Manja Boerman, Ph.D., President of Catalent Cell & Gene Therapy. «This approval allows us to leverage our now-licensed, state-of-the-art GMP commercial manufacturing facility, and our deep AAV expertise, to support AveXis as it delivers a life-changing treatment for patients.»

«Given the complexity and length of time required to make gene therapies, manufacturing is critically important,» said Dannielle Appelhans, Chief Technical Officer for AveXis. «This approval further complements our internal manufacturing capacity and, over time, will allow us to increase supply to meet growing patient needs.»

Catalent’s Harmans commercial manufacturing facility, located near BWI airport, is equipped with single-use technology, and houses over 200,000 square feet of late-stage clinical and commercial-stage gene therapy production. The facility is one of Catalent’s five gene therapy facilities in Maryland providing clinical through commercial scale services, and houses multiple CGMP manufacturing suites, including fill/finish, central services and testing laboratories, warehousing, and supply chain capabilities.

About Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)
SMA is a rare genetic disease that leads to progressive muscle weakness, paralysis, and when left untreated in its most severe form, permanent ventilation or death for most patients by age 2. AveXis’ gene therapy for SMA is designed to address the genetic root cause of SMA by replacing the defective or missing SMN1 gene to halt disease progression through sustained SMN protein expression with a single one-time intravenous infusion.

About Catalent Cell & Gene Therapy
Catalent Cell & Gene Therapy is a full-service partner for adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors and CAR-T immunotherapies, with deep experience in viral vector scale-up and production and recently added expertise in autologous and allogeneic cell therapy development and manufacturing, which together position Catalent as a premier technology, development and manufacturing partner for innovators across the entire field of advanced biotherapeutics. Catalent has a global network of clinical and commercial manufacturing facilities, and fill-finish and packaging capabilities located in both the U.S. and Europe. ATLANTA, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — United Way of Greater Atlanta announced today that Global Payments Inc., a leading worldwide provider of payment technology and software solutions, and long-time supporter of the organization, donated $250,000 to the United for Racial Equity and Healing Fund. This is the first large donation to the fund, which is designed to reduce and prevent racial inequities across systems that impact child well-being (education, health, housing and economic stability) across the Greater Atlanta region. This donation puts United Way on the path to the first $1 million of donations to the fund, which it will match.

«We are grateful to Global Payments Inc. for their partnership and for showing such strong support for our community through their generous gift,» said Milton J. Little, Jr., President and CEO of United Way of Greater Atlanta. «Contributions to the United for Racial Equity and Healing Fund will be invested in structural solutions to catalyze effective, long-lasting change, address the root causes of racial inequity and prioritize hope, healing, and care during an unprecedented time.»

Nearly 500,000 children in Greater Atlanta live in communities that lack the basic opportunities and resources that all children and families need to thrive. These communities are in zip codes where the majority of residents are people of color. These are also communities where COVID-19 hit hard, exposing the health and economic disparities resulting from years of disinvestment and structural racism. The current spotlight on these disparities and recent civil unrest has created new momentum to address racial inequities and an opportunity to convert the moment into a turning point for advancing deep and widescale changes.

«At Global Payments, we stand together as a company against racism, intolerance and injustice in all their forms. Our investment highlights the importance of the work that United Way is doing to focus on the injustices that are taking place in our world today,» said Jeff Sloan, CEO of Global Payments, Inc. «Together, we will continue to work to drive positive change in the communities in which we live and work and stamp out injustice.»

Funds will be invested in organizations in Greater Atlanta that are primarily focused on racial inequity challenges in their communities and on a regional level. Priority will be given to organizations:

  • Led by (executive leadership, staff, board) and focused on Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities most directly impacted by structural racism
  • Leading policy and advocacy efforts that intersect with on-the-ground civic engagement that is focused on people of color
  • Prioritize youth voices and take a multi-generational approach
  • Working on or adjacent to racial justice efforts

Rootstock Software® Unveils Low-Code, Business-Driven Cloud ERP

SAN RAMON, Calif., Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Rootstock Software, a leading provider of cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions built on the Salesforce Platform, today unveiled its Low-Code, Business-Driven Cloud ERP software release. This new solution can empower everyday business users to swiftly tailor and deploy mobile applications, change processes and add AI and analytics without having to wait for busy IT departments or expensive consultants.

«In today’s volatile environment, manufacturers, distributors and supply chain organizations must constantly adapt to compete,» said Tom Brennan, CMO at Rootstock Software. «Business users need to be able to fine tune ERP applications without the lengthy delays that traditional ERP is known for. Business users know firsthand what is needed on the front lines to optimize processes and improve the customer experience. This release puts more power in their hands, and better yet, more business intelligence and guidance at the fingertips of front-line employees.»

Legacy ERP can be difficult to implement, tailor and integrate, especially by typical business users. Instead, expert IT resources are needed for traditional system changes, and these modifications make it increasingly difficult to upgrade the system over time. Similar hurdles also exist when deploying newer technologies in ERP, such as analytics and AI. The new release of Rootstock Cloud ERP overcomes traditional limitations, while also ensuring governance and business rules are intact.

In a January 2020 report on ERP-enabled transformation, Gartner said «ERP is shifting to enterprise applications complemented by an ecosystem that includes new capabilities for application platforms, integration and low-code/no-code development. Gartner refers to this new era of ERP as ‘enterprise business capabilities’ (EBC).» It added that EBC, as an ERP suite surrounded by a platform, «facilitates the rapid development and adoption of new applications and capabilities.»*

Rootstock is an example of this trend, taking advantage of the Salesforce Lightning user experience, including Lightning Flows, App Builder, Community Builder and AI tools, such as Einstein Discovery and Einstein Prediction Builder – all of which offer the following benefits:

  • «Clicks not code» approach. A simple, elegant Lightning user interface is used to configure screens, process flows and purpose-built apps. Point-and-click tools enable citizen developers to «drag and drop» their way to more powerful and easy-to-use applications.
  • AI and Analytics for Everyone. Data, predictive analytics and AI can be embedded into apps and business processes. For example, Einstein Discovery has AI-powered analytics that enables business users to automatically discover relevant patterns based on their data – without having to build sophisticated data models. Apps can leverage Einstein Next Best Action to recommend actions to users. And with Einstein Analytics, users can spot opportunities, predict outcomes and get precise recommendations to improve business outcomes.
  • Mobile Flexibility. With no added effort or integration, tailored apps are available in mobile environments, enabling a «design once, use anywhere» approach.

Using the benefits above, Rootstock’s Low-Code, Business-Drive Cloud ERP enables citizen development in the following five areas:

1. Mobile ERP Apps. Rootstock offers several new mobile apps that customers can easily tailor across a wide spectrum of ERP business functions, including sales orders, work orders, purchasing, receiving, and inventory management. These apps and functions can then be used for remote-work needs.

2. ERP Analytics. Rootstock ERP has always taken full advantage of Salesforce dashboards, reports and Einstein Analytics. Now, with the Lightning user experience, citizen developers can drag-and-drop powerful data visualizations and analytics into a Rootstock ERP Lightning app. In other words, they’re able to embed insights where they know users will need them.

3. ERP Artificial Intelligence. Citizen developers can embed AI into key ERP operations. For example, custom analytics and predictions can be dropped into a process or function to determine the best course of action. With these insights, companies can operate more intelligently at all levels.

4. ERP Processes. Orchestrated process flows can be created in a visual manner, making it easy to view the steps and logic, while also documenting the process for auditors. A citizen developer can «drag and drop» a sequence, such as an order approval process. This will visually guide workers through the process and enable an intuitive user experience. Citizen developers can enhance standard Rootstock flows or create their own.

5. Customer and Supplier Communities. Citizen developers can quickly launch and bring to life distinct communities for suppliers, customers, distributors or other trading partners. This is enabled by the Salesforce Community Builder and by the fact that there’s just one object data model. The model makes it easy to share targeted information across ERP and CRM – such as purchase orders, invoices or cases – and to share appropriate information with specific Community members in a secure fashion.

«An agile ‘clicks not code’ approach empowers business users to create, change and roll out ERP functionality. The ‘legacy’ way is often too long and costly to maintain going forward. Low-code configuration within Cloud ERP can enable companies to respond more quickly to market changes and customer needs,» added Brennan.

Wyzant Launches Homeschooling Tutor Concierge Service

CHICAGO, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Wyzant, the largest tutoring marketplace in the U.S., today launched the Group & Individual Homeschooling Tutor Concierge

CHICAGO, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Wyzant, the largest tutoring marketplace in the U.S., today launched the Group & Individual Homeschooling Tutor Concierge Service to aid parents who are looking for online tutors to supplement their children’s learning during the pandemic. Wyzant has more than 65,000 tutors on its platform, many specializing in, and qualified to offer high-quality homeschooling to students this year.

The COVID-19 pandemic has upended the education system in the United States. Last month, as dozens of U.S. cities began to announce fully remote learning for fall, parents who previously relied on public, private or charter schools began to weigh homeschooling ‘pods’ either as supplemental solutions during the year or as stand-alone curriculum. Normally, about three percent of U.S. children are homeschooled, but this year there are predictions that as many as 40 percent of parents will homeschool their children.

«There is a national uncertainty about returning to school for the fall of 2020 and many districts are still figuring out their plans and what they can offer students and families» said Elaine Richards, president and COO of Wyzant. «Most children are already facing learning loss after a difficult spring with school interruptions and a transition to remote learning. Parents are now scrambling to figure out a different learning path this fall that best suits their family’s lifestyle.»

Wyzant has seen homeschooling requests surge on its platform by 2,450% percent as schools across the country announce plans for remote or hybrid learning for the fall.

Wyzant’s new Virtual Homeschooling Concierge Service works by helping parents connect with qualified teachers who fit their children’s needs to offer the most personalized learning experience possible. Families provide information about their needs including: group size, student grade ranges, subjects of interest, times of day and days of the week they want tutoring. Wyzant then connects families with top-rated tutors on their platform whose profiles match those needs. Interested and available tutors will reach out to the family directly through the Wyzant platform to discuss details and coordinate times.

«Our goal at Wyzant is to be a go-to resource for families during this challenging moment when both children and their parents are experiencing extremely high levels of stress around learning,» said Elaine Richards, president and COO of Wyzant. «Our tutors are prepared to work hand in hand with families, crafting individualized educational plans and providing that much-needed support.»

About Wyzant: Since 2005, Wyzant has offered a platform featuring high quality tutors instructing in subjects ranging from math and science to computer programming and foreign languages. Our powerful online system allows you and your student to connect with a professional tutor, book lessons and attend sessions from the safety of your home. With Wyzant, there are no commitments or expensive pre-paid packages. Every lesson is pay-as-you-go, and if you don’t love your first hour with a new tutor, it’s free, guaranteed.

CHICAGO, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Screencastify, a video-focused SaaS startup, is excited to announce their newest product that allows teachers to securely request videos from their students. Submit, which has been in beta testing throughout the last half of the 2019-2020 school year, allows teachers to send students an assignment link. From there, students can record their ideas without the need for any additional software or extensions.

When schools first closed in response to Coronavirus, Screencastify immediately accelerated a solution for teachers and students to create and share videos in a safe and controlled environment. Screencastify initially began beta testing Submit to a small group and recognized the urgent need for the feature in these distance learning times, quickly inviting thousands of educators to participate in the beta program as they navigated the new distance learning model. Finding the best solution to helping teachers during this challenging time was of the utmost importance.

A number of improvements were made to Submit to better serve the needs of educators and students, including mobile compatibility for webcam assignments, improved video and assignment privacy options, a more user-friendly interface and reduced video submission wait times.

Submit is offered in two versions, Submit Free and Submit Unlimited. The free version allows teachers to create one active assignment and the unlimited version allows teachers to create multiple active assignments. Unlimited versions are available for individual educators, school districts and individual schools to purchase.

«We’re grateful to all the educators who participated in our beta program and provided invaluable feedback to help us create this product and further transform online learning,» said Screencastify CEO James Francis. «Submit simplifies distance learning, making it easier for teachers and students, especially during this challenging time. It’s so important that we assist teachers as they navigate through the changes they’re facing.»

With 12 million users per week adopting the technology, Screencastify has seen exponential growth and adoption the past couple of years, but significantly more in the past four months, much due to the differentiators and advantages it offers including safety, privacy and ease of use. The company is currently adding 30 employees to its team.
