NEW YORK, Aug. 4, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — BrainPOP, the online educational solution that makes rigorous learning experiences accessible and engaging for all students, has earned the Research-Based Design product certification from Digital Promise. The new product certification is a rigorous, reliable signal for school administrators, educators, and families looking for evidence of research-based educational technology (edtech) products.

«Designed by true pioneers in learning technologies, BrainPOP stands out as one of the most accessible and impactful learning solutions for all students. Earning the Research-Based Design product certification from Digital Promise is an important milestone for an exceptional product design based on state-of-the-art learning sciences and rigorous efficacy evidence from multiple research studies,» said Yigal Rosen, Ph.D., a co-author of Equity in Learning with BrainPOP: Fostering Access and Impact for All, who serves on the research faculty of Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. Dr. Rosen collaborated on the paper, which was submitted as part of the product certification process, with Barbara Hubert, Ph.D., Director of Professional Learning at BrainPOP.

The Research-Based Design product certification is awarded to products that submit artifacts demonstrating: «They consulted research about learning to inform product design decisions; They developed a theoretical framework, such as a logic model or theory of change, grounded in research about how people learn to drive product planning and decision making; They publicly communicate the product’s research basis.»

«Everything we do at BrainPOP is designed to help students build the essential skills they need to succeed and thrive in the classroom and beyond. Supporting equitable, differentiated instruction for all students is central to the products we build and the services we offer to educators and parents,» said Scott Kirkpatrick, CEO of BrainPOP. «We are very proud to be recognized by Digital Promise for our work in this space.»

Ensuring all learners have equitable access to rigorous learning opportunities is a challenging task. Online educational platforms driven by learning science research have rich potential to support creating instructional access to high-quality learning experiences. BrainPOP is deeply committed to integrating research on learning into the design of its content and tools. This commitment anchored the design of the original BrainPOP platform and will continue to guide its development in the future.

Since its founding in 1999 by Avraham Kadar, M.D., BrainPOP has been continuously innovating to prepare students to become the leaders of tomorrow. Over the last 20 years, BrainPOP has reached more than 300 million learners worldwide. From the beginning, the BrainPOP approach engaged kids’ curiosity through short animated movies that make complicated ideas simple and clear, helping them experience the sudden burst of understanding that Dr. Kadar called a «brain pop.» Today, schools and districts nationwide utilize BrainPOP to raise academic achievement and strengthen students’ critical, computational, and creative thinking skills.

«Schools and families want to know which edtech products can actually help students learn,» said Karen Cator, president and CEO of Digital Promise. «Digital Promise’s Product Certifications are designed to help strengthen consumers’ confidence in choosing research-based products, while recognizing product developers doing the important work of incorporating valid research into their designs.»

The Research-Based Design product certification uses a competency-based learning framework, developed in consultation with Digital Promise’s Learner Variability Project advisory board, expert researchers in the learning sciences field, and dozens of educators across the United States. TULSA, Okla., Aug. 4, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Red Devil®, a leading manufacturer of caulks, sealants and painter’s hand tools, is featured on two TV home improvement spots to demonstrate three easy DIY projects to improve any home’s energy efficiency. Red Devil® is profiled on the syndicated Daytime TV Show on August 4th and WeTV cable’s The Lifestyle List on August 8, 2020. Times vary according to local schedules.

The how-to TV segments give Do-It-Yourselfers the power to achieve professional results with the right products for each job. Re-caulking gaps and cracks around the house can seal in the savings and increase energy efficiency as well as refresh kitchens and bathrooms.

Host and lifestyle expert Jennifer Bonner recommends tackling energy-efficiency from the inside out. Ideal for showers, tubs, sinks and countertops. Red Devil’s Kitchen & Bath Stain Block™ Sealant is formulated to resist mold, mildew and tough stains such as red wine. Capable of adhering to porcelain, wood, plastics, metal, glass, plaster, drywall, brick and masonry, Red Devil’s versatile caulk can seal any gaps. Easy to use for any level DIYer, just lay the bead and clean sealant with a damp cloth. It can be painted to complement any interior design aesthetic and each cartridge can seal 50 feet with a 3/16″ bead.

During hot weather, cool air escapes through the gaps and cracks around windows, doors, trim, and siding, and may allow points of entry for pests. For outdoor projects that require an exceptionally durable caulk, Bonner shows how Red Devil’s LIFETIME® Ultra 230 Premium Sealant is ideal for windows and door frames, with a high-performance seal that lasts the lifetime of the home. Featuring a lifetime durability guarantee, the multi-purpose elastomeric caulk will not shrink or crack. It also has excellent paint adhesion and includes HomeShield Antimicrobial Protection to prevent the severest forms of mold and mildew when the sealant is cured.

For large gaps around faucets, hose hookups, pipes or foundation cracks, Red Devil® recommends Foam & Fill® Large Gaps & Cracks Polyurethane Sealant. Quick and easy to use, the expanding polyurethane sealant fills large cracks, gaps and voids to form a waterproof bond that seals out drafts, moisture and pests. With adherence to a multitude of substrates, the cured foam can be sanded, painted and stained for professional-looking results. Safe for the environment, Red Devil’s Foam & Fill® Large Gaps & Cracks Polyurethane Sealant contains no HCFCs or CFCs.

Tune in to Daytime and The Lifestyle List to learn about more tips for sealing in the energy savings and keeping out the elements and pests. Whether Schools Hold Distance Learning or Classroom Instruction this Fall, Back-to-School Immunizations are Still Required

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Aug. 4, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — While the majority of California schools are gearing up for an online back-to-school session this fall – making returning to the classrooms, for most families, a distant thought – the California Immunization Coalition (CIC) is reminding parents that even students who receive their education through distance learning are still subject to state laws for required immunizations.

«Whether children will be learning at home or wearing masks and practicing social distancing in a classroom or pod organized by parents, they still need timely vaccinations to protect them as stay-at-home orders are lifted,» said Catherine Flores Martin, CIC Executive Director. «We all want to ensure that when in-classroom learning resumes, kids are ready to hit the ground running and protected from other dangerous diseases, like measles and whooping cough.

Since the shelter-in-place order began, vaccination rates have fallen dramatically. State data reported vaccinations were down by more than 50 percent in April compared to April of last year1California health officials are becoming increasingly concerned that the state could be on the precipice of a vaccine-preventable disease outbreak if children and adolescents continue to fall behind on their recommended and required immunizations. If this trend continues, a trend that jeopardizes our state’s public health, California will face a critical gap in vaccinations when students return to classrooms and in-person instruction.

«While vaccinations are required for school entry, we vaccinate children and adolescents based on scientific guidelines and recommendations to protect them from preventable and deadly diseases,» says Pamela Kahn, MPH, RN, President of the California School Nurses Organization. «It’s very easy for these diseases to make a comeback, and that’s what we need to avoid.»

Ensuring that immunizations are given in a timely manner is important to their efficacy.

«Making sure children have their full series of vaccines administered at the right age and on time is the best defense against the spread of highly contagious diseases,» says Yasuko Fukuda, MD FAAP, Chair of the California American Academy of Pediatrics. «Getting behind on vaccination schedules puts children at risk for diseases such as measles, whooping cough or influenza. We want to make sure every child is protected, whether in school, the playground, or in the grocery store.»

Flores Martin, on behalf of the CIC, encourages parents to take immediate action.

«Even if your child is receiving instruction at home at this time, your child will need to be protected. Call your doctor or nurse if you delayed your child’s shots due to the pandemic – it’s critical to catch up now and stay on schedule,» she said.

CIC encourages families to visit the following sites for more information and resources to stay up to date on school immunization requirements:
