NCCN Logo (C)NCCN(R) 2018. All rights reserved.

  • CMS y contribuyentes comerciales
  • Agencias federales
  • Legisladores a nivel estatal y local

FASTER Act for Sesame Labeling Introduced in the House of Representatives

MCLEAN, Va., Feb. 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Today, FARE, the world’s leading non-governmental organization engaged in food allergy advocacy and the largest private funder of food allergy research, announced the bipartisan introduction of the Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education and Research (FASTER) Act of 2021 (H.R. 1202) by the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill, which is FARE’s highest legislative priority, was introduced by Rep. Doris Matsui (D-California) and Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-North Carolina).

«Nearly 1.6 million Americans are allergic to sesame, and they and their loved ones live with constant anxiety that sesame may be in the food products they purchase,» said Lisa Gable, chief executive officer of FARE. «With today’s reintroduction, ushered forward by the strong leadership of Rep. Matsui and Rep. McHenry, a critical new labeling law to help those with life-threatening food allergies is one step closer to reality.» Added Gable, «Our goal was to reintroduce this legislation within the first 100 days of Congress, and to achieve this milestone within the first 50 days of the new legislative session is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of the thousands of food allergy advocates from across the country.»

The FASTER Act (H.R. 1202) would require that sesame be labeled as an allergen on packaged foods. Sesame would become the ninth food allergen for which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires plain-language labeling. Sesame is often used when a label reads «natural flavors» or «natural spices,» adding another layer of difficulty when consumers review product labels at their local grocery store.

The bill would also require the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to issue a report on scientific opportunities in food allergy research that examines prevention, treatment, and new cures. In addition, the legislation establishes a risk-based scientific process and framework for establishing additional allergens covered by the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.

«For food allergy families across the nation, ordinary activities – like going to school, a birthday party, or camp – require a great deal of preparation and vigilance,» said Congresswoman Matsui. «Accurate food ingredient labels are crucial for these families to make decisions with potentially life-threatening consequences. However, current FDA labeling requirements do not include sesame, leaving more than 1.5 million Americans with a sesame allergy to fend for themselves. Thanks to an amazing outpouring of grassroots advocacy last Congress we had over 90 bipartisan cosponsors on the FASTER Act, and we are confident that support for labeling sesame will only grow in this new Congress. Food allergy families are truly resilient, and together we are working hard to make sure that this bill gets across the finish line.»

Congressman McHenry said, «Over 1.5 million people are allergic to sesame, yet there is no requirement to include the ingredient on product labels. The FASTER Act changes this, providing a much-needed update to allergen labeling laws to include sesame. Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to regularly review promising food allergy treatments and research, enabling us to better treat the millions of Americans that suffer from these life-threatening allergies. I am proud to support this legislation and am grateful for the work FARE has done raising awareness for sesame allergies.»

The FASTER Act was first introduced in April 2019 (H.R. 2117). After unanimously passing in the U.S. House of Representatives on November 17, 2020, a similar bill, (S. 3451) unanimously passed in the U.S. Senate on December 9. However, the legislative session expired before the House could consider the Senate’s revised version of the bill.

FARE will now begin meeting virtually with legislators to gain support for the bipartisan FASTER Act and will mobilize advocates to ask their representatives to sign on as cosponsors. The legislation will be front and center when FARE hosts its second annual advocacy event, Courage at Congress 2021: Advocate for a Cure, taking place virtually on March 8-10.

«RDDC has a huge mandate, with COVID our work could not be more important» –Linda Goler Blount, BWHI President & CEO

The RDDC was established at a pivotal time, as the United States continues to grapple with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the glaringly evident racial disparities that exist regarding infection rates, treatment and access to care.

The coalitions initial public meeting, will commemorate the upcoming international Rare Disease Day, and will tap into the collective expertise and experiences of various stakeholders to raise awareness of the work. The meeting will take place virtually today, February 23, 2021, from 1:00 P.M.-3:00 P.M. EST. Moderated by Emmy Award-Winning anchor Lesli Foster, the meeting will feature participation by leading rare disease experts from top healthcare organizations including the American Medical Association, National Medical Association, the National Hispanic Medical Association, and the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum. Remarks will also be offered by Congressman G. K. Butterfield (D-NC), Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith, Chair of the White House Covid-19 Health Equity Task Force, and NBA champion Alonzo Mourning, who suffered from focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, a rare kidney disorder, and had a double kidney transplant in 2003.

RDDC has just released its 2021 Action Plan entitled «Charting the Path Forward for Equity in Rare Diseases», that lays out priorities which the coalition will be undertaking to address the challenges that rare disease patients of color face. At www.RareDiseaseDiversity.org, RDDC now has a website to share resources, promote patient stories, provide updates on their work, and otherwise engage with the rare disease community.

«RDDC has a huge mandate, but our work could not be more important. As COVID-19 sets its sights on people of color and patients living with rare and chronic diseases, the individuals who exist at the intersection of these two realities need dedicated advocacy and policy change now more than ever,» said Linda Goler Blount, BWHI President and CEO.

«Racial bias is entrenched in our healthcare system and deeply lowers the quality of care for patients of color. RDDC is working to educate, support and empower rare disease patients of color and their caregivers so they can be their own advocates,» said Dr. Elena Rios, President & CEO of the National Hispanic Medical Association.

«The work of RDDC is critical in order to address the health inequities that people of color with rare disease experience. RDDC is focused on raising awareness around these health inequalities, reducing racial disparities and advocating for evidence-based solutions,» said Juliet K. Choi, Chief Executive Officer of Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum.

Patriot Gold Group Announces «Inflation Protection America First IRA» Inflation the Next Big Crisis Bidenomics 2021

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ —

Patriot Gold Group (PRNewsfoto/Patriot Gold Group)

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ —

Inflation might be the big story of 2021.

As the vaccine rolls out and Biden pushes his aggressive vaccination schedule along with a historic $1.9 trillion relief bill, policymakers and the Fed have proven they will deal with any and all problems—health and economic—by printing money.

Gold American Eagle sales were up 455% in 2020 as smart money sought a safe haven

If you add up all of the money the United States has ever printed in the history of the country, over 40% of it was printed in 2020 alone.

During just three months in 2020, the United States increased its deficit by more than it had during the past five recessions combined (i.e., 1973, 1975, 1982, the early 1990s, and the Great Recession of 2008-2009).

With closed theaters and restaurants, slashed airline prices, empty hotels, and government benefits paid or in the pipeline, Americans may have as much as $2 trillion in extra cash socked away by spring.

According to Jack Hanney, CEO of Patriot Gold Group, «The excessive money printing from the Fed to address this pandemic and lock down like most things in life is a double-edged sword: it is a blessing and a curse, as well as fuel for the economic recovery, but may also yield an explosion in prices that policymakers will have no way out of like post World War II.» Mr. Hanney continues, «The Fed policy remaining firmly in rescue mode, with interest rates near zero, and a Biden administration that plans to use reconciliation to get their aggressive agenda through is the spark that will ignite a flame that may turn into an inferno of prices for goods and services.»

Mr. Hanney goes on to say, «When the vaccine rolls out and the sun comes out, spring is in the air and Americans have been locked down for over a year, the mountain of money that will flood restaurants, hotels, airlines, products, goods, and services, and lead to a surge in prices like we’ve never seen, boosting the demand for gold as an inflation hedge at a time when we’re finding physical supply the most constrained we’ve seen in a decade. Gold American Eagle sales were up 455% in 2020 as smart money sought a safe haven from a record-breaking expansion in the money supply, record federal budget deficits, and QE Infinity.» He continues, «Inflation is bad news for consumers, but it’s good for gold and silver.»

Bloomberg Intelligence and Saxo Bank raised their silver forecast to $50 an ounce in 2021 based on the excessive money printing and Biden’s commitment to renewable energy. Moreover, Bank of America raised their gold forecast to $3,000 per ounce, which indicates a pattern that suggests a 70% surge in gold prices may occur in 18 months.

The report offers an in-depth analysis of recent developments, changes in market regulations, product approvals, product launches, and the market behavior across various segments.

Thin film solar PV modules Market: Key Findings

  • Thin film solar PV modules market value to grow by USD 4.57 billion at over 8% CAGR during 2021-2025
  • 50% of market growth to originate from North America during the forecast period
  • Based on the technology, the Cadmium Telluride segment will offer maximum opportunities for vendors during the forecast period
  • Thin film solar PV modules market is expected to have a negative impact due to the spread of COVID-19

Thin Film Solar PV Modules Market: Growth Drivers

The reduced quantity of silicon required for manufacturing is one of the prime factors driving the growth of the market. The growing shortage of silicon materials has affected the production of solar panels worldwide. This is driving many solar companies to focus on the development of thin solar films that require silicon in lesser quantities than that of conventional solar panels. Although thin-film solar panels are less efficient compared to traditional solar PV panels, their lower installation costs will offset output losses. All these factors are expected to have a positive impact on the growth of the global thin film solar PV modules market during the forecast period.

«Increasing investments in renewable energy and rising solar PV installations will further boost market growth during the forecast period», says a senior analyst at Technavio.

Study Shows That 60% Of Employees Would Take A Pay Cut To Have Better Air Quality and Hygiene In Their Workplace

READING, Penn., Feb. 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — A new survey of U.S. and Canadian workers revealed they would take a lower-paying job if it ensured good air quality, greater hygiene and health-conscious colleagues.

READING, Penn., Feb. 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — A new survey of U.S. and Canadian workers revealed they would take a lower-paying job if it ensured good air quality, greater hygiene and health-conscious colleagues.

The survey was commissioned by Ambius, the global leader in creating smarter, healthier spaces through hygiene, plants and scenting services, found that 60% of workers would take a lower paid job if it had a healthier working environment than their current job, with 35% of those saying they already had found a new job with better hygiene practices.

The survey provides evidence that a shift in the awareness of clean and safe workplaces will be at the forefront of employee concerns, as 70% of those surveyed said they would be more likely to ask future employers about their health and hygiene policies and implementation before accepting future jobs.

«As the COVID-19 pandemic has shifted many of our workplaces to at-home environments, business leaders are trying to figure out how to safely bring back their employees,» said John Myers, President and CEO of Rentokil, parent company of Ambius. «Based on our study, research shows that when workers return to their workplaces, their expectations and priorities have changed. A clean, hygienic and well-ventilated space with efficient air circulation and strategically-place hygiene stations are central to the idea of a safe workplace and will be expected by employees as they return to work. Physical health is important, but these measures also contribute to the mental health and overall well-being of employees.»

The survey of 3,000 people featured employees working in a range of environments, including factory and warehouse floors, hospitals, restaurants, schools and general offices about their most important features of future workplaces. Clean, pure, and healthy air (62%), efficient air circulation (54%), regular disinfecting (52%) and natural lighting (50%) were some of the most popular responses to what these top features are.

Stale and stuffy working rooms (47%), unpleasant odors (42%), and poor ventilation (42%) were all selected as factors that would create a stressful and anxious workplace environment.

Using plants and greenery in workplaces to mark social distancing partitions rather than sterile boards and markings would create a better working environment in general (65%) and improve mental health and wellbeing in the workplace (55%).

With the pandemic causing concerns for the future of workplaces across the world, the research suggests making strong steps to improve certain aspects in the environment would go a long way in keeping them safe, happy and secure in the future, post-pandemic world.
