(Channel), a leading Australian multi-affiliate investment management company servicing more than A$16 billion in assets, has established Channel Capital Cayman, an offshore governance services business based in the Cayman Islands.

Mark Cook, an experienced director for Cayman Islands and other offshore investment funds will lead the business, which will focus on establishing and operating investment funds domiciled in the United States, Cayman Islands and other offshore financial centres, as well as ensuring ongoing compliance with regulatory obligations including anti-money laundering and tax transparency.

Mark has worked with many globally recognized fund managers and financial institutions since arriving in the Cayman Islands in 2005. After qualifying as a chartered accountant in Australia and spending more than 10 years in public practice there, he obtained fund administration experience with Citco Fund Services in the Cayman Islands and since 2008 has been engaged as an investment fund director.

The Cayman Islands is a world leader in the establishment of offshore funds due to its tax-neutrality, stable economy, sophisticated banking sector, and professional financial service industry. Approximately 70% of non-US domiciled alternative investment funds managed by US SEC-registered advisors are domiciled in the Cayman Islands.

«We are thrilled to be partnering with Mark in the Cayman Islands» said Glen Holding, Channel’s co-founder and managing director. «We see this as a natural extension of the support and oversight we have traditionally offered to fund managers in Australia, and is consistent with our strategy to build out a global platform capable of supporting investment managers and their clients in all major jurisdictions».

Executive Director at Channel Capital Cayman, Mark Cook, said: «The Cayman Islands remains by far the most popular jurisdiction for hedge, private equity and infrastructure funds. I’m really looking forward to working with the Channel team and leveraging the platform they have developed. I anticipate opportunities across the spectrum for straight governance services, or to more widely assist with an investment manager’s business needs».

ASPCA® and Wings of Rescue Transport More Than 170 Dogs and Cats from Texas Animal Shelters Impacted by Severe Winter Storms

FORT WORTH, Texas, Feb. 21, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — To assist Texas animal shelters impacted by the recent weather crisis, the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) and Wings of Rescue today led the urgent transport of more than 170 dogs and cats via ground and air to…

FORT WORTH, Texas, Feb. 21, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — To assist Texas animal shelters impacted by the recent weather crisis, the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) and Wings of Rescue today led the urgent transport of more than 170 dogs and cats via ground and air to shelters in the Northeast where they will find safe, loving homes. Animal shelters across Texas have been severely affected by the unprecedented winter storms, many losing power and access to water, and these lifesaving transports are providing much needed relief to shelters and animals in their care.

The ASPCA moved pets from Athens Animal Rescue Shelter (Athens, Texas), Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake (Kemp, Texas), and Humane Society of North Texas (Fort Worth, Texas) on three of the ASPCA’s Animal Relocation transport vehicles to two regional airports, where the animals were loaded onto Wings of Rescue flights, funded by the ASPCA. The animals were flown to Brandywine Valley SPCA (New Castle, Del.) and St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center (Madison, N.J.), where they will be cared for until they are adopted.

«The weather crisis in Texas has created dire circumstances for animals across the state, and we’re proud to work with our partners to relocate more than 170 homeless animals to safer areas, which also frees resources at animal shelters to help them continue to serve their communities,» said Matt Bershadker, President & CEO of the ASPCA. «This is a remarkable collaborative effort, demonstrating the deep commitment and compassion of the entire animal welfare community to meet the needs of these vulnerable animals.»

«The Humane Society of North Texas is extremely grateful to have a strong partnership with the ASPCA and Wings of Rescue in these lifesaving flights,» said Cassie Davidson, Director of Communications, Humane Society of North Texas. «The original flight was cancelled last week for safety reasons as the severe winter storm approached Texas. Our dedicated staff cared for all of our pets during frigid weather conditions over the past week while our shelter was closed to the public. The flights today will free up nearly 100 kennels so we can reopen our shelter on Sunday to the public for intake and adoptions. We know these pets will be going to loving homes and we couldn’t be happier for them.»

«February brought us a double whammy. Right before the extreme weather set in, we were hit with 80 dogs and puppies from a hoarding case,» said Jennifer Miller, Director of the Athens Animal Rescue Shelter. «The ASPCA was right there with us, working on plans to move almost half of these dogs to shelters where they will be adopted quickly.»

«Severe winter weather greatly impacted Texas this past week as well as our shelter. We are so grateful to the ASPCA Relocation Team, and Wings of Rescue for coming to OUR ‘rescue,’ to relocate 37 of our dogs to find loving homes,» said Sharon Banaszak, Director, Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake. «We are very proud to be a partner with the ASPCA in their lifesaving relocation program. ASPCA provided the support, and resources this week to assist when we needed help the most.»

The ASPCA deploys nationwide to assist in relocation, search-and-rescue, sheltering and placement of animals during disaster situations including severe weather, wildfires, tornadoes and floods. In addition, we work closely with local agencies across the country to help enhance their animal response capabilities through grants and training opportunities.

The ASPCA is equally committed to saving lives and preventing animal homelessness through animal relocation. Since 2014, the ASPCA’s Animal Relocation Program has transported over 165,000 animals across the country on more than 7,100 ground and air trips in an effort to find them adoptable homes more quickly. For more information on the ASPCA’s efforts to help animals, please visit www.aspca.org.

Rescued Monkeys arrive at J.A.C.K. Sanctuary, a PASA Member

LUBUMBASHI, Democratic Republic of Congo, Feb. 20, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — The Jeunes Animaux Confisqués au Katanga (J.A.C.K.) sanctuary, after months of coordinated international effort, welcomed 20 monkeys to their new home. The monkeys, all native to the Democratic Republic of Congo, were confiscated in September 2020, disrupting a wildlife trafficking operation running between the Democratic Republic of Congo (D.R. Congo) and South Africa. This is a historical event and is the first such operation in Africa, where the animals were repatriated back to their native origins.

While crossing the border from Zambia into Zimbabwe, the traffickers were apprehended by the Zimbabwean ZRP/MFFU Officials. When the traffickers could not produce the necessary permits, the Zimbabwean officials moved quickly to confiscate the animals and arrest the traffickers. The arrested persons namely: MBAMBI John, MSIWA Overton, BEGOEX Nzeyi Okitelanga and BULANGONGO Ekaye, were arrested and charged for being in contravention of Zimbabwean laws, as they were unlawfully carrying monkeys of rare species from the D.R. Congo to the Republic of South Africa.

The four men were unable to produce a CITES permit, export permit from the D.R. Congo, in-transit permits from the Republic of Zambia, in-transit permit from the Republic of Zimbabwe, or an import permit from the Republic of South Africa. They did not have any authorization to transport these monkeys.

The four men were charged and tried at the Magistrates Court in Karoi and were found guilty on all 3 counts they were charged with. The Court ordered that they pay $6000-00 or alternatively stay 6 months in prison. Given their foreign nationalities, they are awaiting deportation to their respective countries, and the monkeys were forfeited to Zimbabwe pending repatriation to the DRC. A huge congratulations goes to the Zimbabwean judiciary for understanding the importance of this case as well as the need for repatriation of the monkeys.

During the repatriation process the monkeys were cared for by Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, with support from the, the Chirundu Anti-Poaching Unit, and Hemmersbach Rhino Force together with the Tikki Hywood Foundation.

The Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA), a network of 23 primate sanctuaries across 13 African countries, was quickly alerted when the animals were confiscated.

«A truck smuggling so many primates is almost certainly part of a wildlife crime syndicate,» said Gregg Tully, Executive Director of PASA. «So we knew this was a significant rescue – in fact, it’s the largest in PASA’s 20 year history.»

This has been one of the biggest illegal wildlife trafficking cases uncovered in Zimbabwe and one which has led to the better understanding of how the illegal wildlife trade is changing and how laws must be adjusted going forward to accommodate cases such as this within the structure of the different country’s legislation. The success would not have been possible without the coordinated and combined efforts of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, and the Department of Veterinary Services.

J.A.C.K. received authorization from the Congolese government to be the official repatriation site. Franck Chantereau, founder and chair of J.A.C.K., worked with a joint mission of leaders at the ICCN, which is tasked with the protection of wildlife by the Congolese government, and the Governor of the Haut Katanga Province. Together with the Provincial Minister of the Environment, they negotiated with their counterparts in Zimbabwe to work out the logistics of the rescue.

In addition, non-governmental organizations assisted to make sure this operation was successful both in the DRC and in Zimbabwe these groups included Conserv Congo, a nonprofit in D.R. Congo which investigates wildlife crime. And in Zimbabwe the Chirundu Anti-poaching Unit, Hemmersbach Rhino Force and the Tikki Hywood Foundation.

«International rescues are quite challenging,» said Chantereau. «But working together and being patient yet persistent were the qualities we needed to be successful.»

In late January of 2021, Chantereau, the Congolese Provincial Minister of the Environment, an ICCN representative along with the J.A.C.K. veterinarian, drove to Zimbabwe to retrieve the monkeys. At the Chirundu border post, where the monkeys were first confiscated, custody of the animals transferred to the DRC team. They arrived back to DRC thanks to a truck kindly sponsored by Hemmersbach Rhino Force just before curfew and began to release the animals.

«The next morning,» said Chantereau, «it was wonderful to see the enclosures full of monkeys! They were running, playing, jumping.» He noted that the monkeys were still quite small and were probably very young when they were poached.

This case represents a victory in the fight against wildlife crime.

Many organizations contributed to the success of this mission. Financial support came from: Olsen Animal Trust, Réserve Africaine de Sigean, Fondation Brigitte Bardot, International Primate Protection League, San Diego Zoo Global, Dutch Federation of Zoos, Pro Wildlife, Columbus Zoo, Kansas City Zoo, Global Wildlife Conservation, Zoo de la Palmyre, International Fund for Animal Welfare, GaiaZOO , LAJA Les Amis de JACK, Zoo Mulhouse, Kansas City Zoo AAZK, AZA Old World Monkey TAG. In-kind support came from: Prosteel, PANACO, Espace Zoologique de Saint Martin La Plaine, Forgotten Parks.

So-Called ‘Equality Act’ Harms Women, Punishes People of Faith, and Creates an Abortion Mandate says Family Research Council

WASHINGTON, Feb. 19, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Family Research Council responded today to the White House giving support to H.R. 5, deceptively titled «The Equality Act,» which was introduced yesterday in the U.S. House of Representatives and is scheduled for a vote next week.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins made the following comments:

«To wrest special privileges for sexual orientation and gender identity, the so-called Equality Act would eliminate women’s privacy and safety, forcing them to share public bathrooms, locker rooms, showers, and even battered women’s shelters with biological males. The harms aren’t hypothetical; local laws to this effect have already led to a kindergartener being assaulted in her school restroom, a rape survivor being forced to quit her job, and nine women being harassed in a shelter.

«The bill erodes parental rights and positions the government as lord over churches and other faith-based institutions, potentially dictating how their facilities are used, who they hire, and even punishing them for not falling in step with a view of human sexuality that directly contradicts orthodox biblical teaching. No person of faith or religious institution, whether school, church, synagogue, mosque, business, or non-profit, will escape the Orwellian reach of the Equality Act.

«When Speaker Pelosi says she isn’t concerned about the ‘collateral damage’ of her agenda, she means it. The bill would bring a catastrophic loss of religious freedom in America, and, as a result, every American, those who believe and do not believe, will suffer the consequences,» concluded Perkins.

Mary Beth Waddell, FRC’s Director of Federal Affairs For Family and Religious Liberty, also commented:

«The Equality Act undermines hard-fought gains for women in America. The Equality Act imposes on women’s privacy and unfairly penalizes female athletes by allowing biological men to compete in women’s sports, flagrantly denying the scientific evidence of real biological differences.

«This bill also politicizes the medical profession and denies biological reality, harming those it claims to protect. It could also be the most pro-abortion legislation to pass the House in a decade, dramatically expanding abortion access and jeopardizing long-standing federal conscience laws. All Americans should strongly speak out against what is actually the ‘Inequality Act,'» concluded Waddell.

Lyft teams up with CVS Health to support equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccine

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 19, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Millions of people lack access to essential resources — including healthcare — simply because they can’t get a ride. The COVID-19 pandemic has intensified this problem, as tens of millions of Americans will face transportation barriers getting to vaccination sites. Today CVS Health announced a community-based strategy to address inequities related to COVID-19 vaccine access in vulnerable communities, with a particular focus on Black and Hispanic populations.

Lyft is joining this effort, along with the YMCA and other non-profit partners, to help underserved communities access vaccination appointments by providing access to rides for those in need. CVS Health is working with an extensive network of community-based leaders and nonprofit organizations, including free and charitable clinics, faith-based organizations and others, to reach these vulnerable patients and help them make an appointment.

«Forty-six percent of Lyft rides start or stop in low income communities,» said John Zimmer, Co-Founder and President, Lyft. «The combined strength of CVS Health and Lyft, with our ability to reach vulnerable communities, enables us to support equitable vaccine access in communities that need it most. Now more than ever, equity matters.»

«We are committed to reaching people of color and underserved communities to ensure health equity as we work to vaccinate all Americans,» said Karen S. Lynch, President and CEO, CVS Health. «Our presence in communities across the country uniquely positions CVS Health to educate vulnerable populations and connect them with vaccine administration services.»

«Throughout the pandemic, the Y has worked to meet the needs of the 10,000 communities we serve across the United Statessaid Kevin Washington, president and CEO, YMCA of the USA. «We are proud to team up with CVS Health as part of our efforts to help ensure everyone has equitable access to accurate information about the vaccines and to the vaccines themselves, especially communities of color, which have been disproportionately affected by the health and economic impacts of the virus.»

About Lyft’s Universal Vaccine Access Campaign
The universal vaccine access campaign is part of the company’s LyftUp initiative, a partnership of companies, community organizations and individuals working together to make sure everyone has access to affordable, reliable transportation to get where they need to go.  Working together using Lyft’s transportation platform, companies and social impact organizations will help underserved communities access vaccination appointments by providing rides for those in need.  In addition to directly funding rides, corporate partners will leverage their customers and member networks to promote individual contributions to the campaign as well as provide social media and marketing resources to connect people in need with community partners.  Community partners will then route ride credits to those in need. Companies wishing to support the universal vaccine access campaign can email Lyft at supportlyftup@lyft.com or go to Rides for all with LyftUp | Lyft.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) logo

BOLINGBROOK, Ill., Feb. 19, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Mycocycle, Inc., a leader in using mycoremediation to process toxins out of waste, announced today that its founder and CEO Joanne Rodriguez was named to the first class of 250 business owners in Forbes Next 1000 2021.

«2021 was already starting out great for Mycocycle with excellent progress on our SEED round and moving into our new offices,» said Rodriguez. «I am beyond excited about what the future holds for Mycocycle. We are entering into the next stage of our growth so gaining recognition from Forbes via their inaugural Next 1000 list emphasizes our position as innovators of the future.»

According to Forbes, the Next 1000 is «our next big franchise to spotlight and accelerate self-funded, self-driven overachievers, providing a platform for under-represented communities.» They explain that their goal is to highlight entrepreneurs who are not the typical white male profile who lead venture-backed startups but rather feature the company leaders who look like America, are pre-revenue startups and have under $10 million in revenue.

Mycocyle’s vision is to create new circular economies that transform environmentally unstable processes into financially viable material opportunities. Mushrooms will change the way we manage and use waste now and in the future.

«Thank you to Forbes and their panel of judges for this tremendous recognition,» concluded Rodriguez.
