2020i-VISTA Grand Challenge

The organizer of the 2020i-VISTA Grand Challenge planned a nearly 6 kilometers track in the 3.5 square-kilometer arena in Lijia Park. The challenge scenarios simulate L4-L5 automatic driving of typical Chongqing urban traffic, with complex road conditions such as tunnels and hump-back bridges. Many random scenarios were set, such as traffic lights, pedestrians running a red light, jaywalkers, and traffic flow when merging to a main road. It also set up the scenarios fusing automatic driving and 5G C-V2X, such as pedestrian crossing (V2I) and ambulance avoidance (V2V). The challenge also tested the vehicle’s «human-like driving» ability, such as the driving speed when passing an intersection under a green light, the driving speed at an intersection without signal lights and pedestrian on the sidewalk, parking service, automatic underground parking, etc.

Among the 15 professional teams that entered the final, 14 teams, including Tsinghua University, Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC), finished the race successfully. The Yuanzhen Team won the champion. The Mr JAC Commercial Vehicle Team from JAC came second only by 1.6 points. The Jinglong No.1 Team from Robotics College of Beijing Union University won the third place.

A Virtual Simulation Challenge was newly added. The simulation scenarios include L4 automatic driving in the park and high-grade automatic driving on the highway. All the scenarios come from «i-Scenario», a Chinese Typical Driving Scenarios Library of the Intelligent Connected Technology of CAERI.

According to the schedule, the ADAS Challenge will be held in Lijia Baiyun Lake Park on September 13th. 22 consumer players with their production cars will compete in AEB automatic braking and APS automatic parking. The Commercialization Process Challenge will be held in Lijia Jinhai Avenue on September 14th.

The EQB-1100AT and ECB-20AT collaboration models are the first since the team changed its name to Scuderia AlphaTauri in this season. The dials feature a gradated navy blue and white color scheme, taking after the Scuderia AlphaTauri team colors and exactly the same navy blue as the EDIFICE brand color. The ECB-20AT features a navy blue case and band. Both models are inscribed with the team logo on the dial, case back, and band, part of a design that is infused with the world view of Scuderia AlphaTauri.

This warranty sounds attractive, but is it reliable? Reading into the fine print, we realized when brands advertise an «extended warranty,» this usually does not cover the whole car. Instead, different parts of the vehicle have separate warranty periods. However, how many consumers have realized this «secret»?

Comparing time-based warranties: A comparison based on individual car mileage

A full warranty is the leading advertising attraction for car manufacturers today. To a certain extent, it reflects the confidence the car manufacturers have in their products. However, we found out that a full car warranty coverage does not necessarily include a warranty for all the vehicle components. It typically covers only large pieces that are not easy to wear out.

GAC MOTOR’s extended warranty is valid for five years or up to 150,000 kilometers, while another brand covers six years or up to 200,000 kilometers. However, does the duration in the warranty coverage make it necessarily better? Based on an average car mileage for better consideration, we believe it is a negligible difference. Consumers often overlook the lifespan of consumable car components which requires constant replacement every three years. If manufacturer warranties do not encompass these items or the warranty period covered is too short, this will increase the periodic maintenance expenditure for car owners.

Warranty duration of accessories: Focus on car components which are frequently used

Consumers should also pay attention to the duration of the warranty period for accessories. Most car components warranties are shorter than the full car warranty duration. For example, the commonly used headlights and suspension warranty period are typically three months or up to 5,000 kilometers, or three years or up to 10,000 kilometers. However, GAC MOTOR extends the same warranty duration of 5 years or up to 150,000 kilometers for these same parts.

Stagecoach’s newly opened green mass transportation scheme in Manchester is being powered by Centrica’s Electric Vehicle (EV) enablement solution

LONDON, Sept. 11, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Centrica Business Solutions has provided bus charging infrastructure for Stagecoach which is delivering one of Europe’s largest single investments in electric buses, after securing £6.9m in support funding from the Department of Transport’s Ultra Low-Emission Bus Scheme (ULEB).

A total of 32 fully electric double-decker e-buses have been introduced on routes in Manchester, with a further two also live in Cambridge.

The Enviro EV400 bus is a joint venture between Alexander Dennis, which delivered the chassis, body and internal furnishings, while the batteries and drive train were provided by BYD. Each has a range of up to 190 miles and capacity to carry around 80 passengers.

The e-bus fleet operates two key high frequency services connecting Manchester city centre, Manchester Airport, five hospitals and two universities, saving 920,000 litres of diesel a year and reducing annual CO2 by 2,400 tonnes.

The buses are equipped with two charging points and each charger has twin 40kW AC feeds. When combined, the 80kW supply means the buses can be recharged in just three and a half hours.

Centrica Business Solutions led the design and delivery of the charging infrastructure project which includes a new 6.6kV HV timed connection, 2MVA transformer, on site solar generation and charger energy management system. The system is built with expansion in mind, enabling Stagecoach to scale their energy needs, when further routes are electrified.

Stagecoach is the UK’s biggest investor in hybrid-electric bus technology, investing more than £1billion in new greener buses over the past decade.

Veoneer’s 4th generation stereo vision camera system is comprised of fully integrated hardware, perception software, and new features to master the challenges of highly automated driving. The system processes and classifies 3D objects (vehicles, motorbikes, pedestrians, lanes, landmarks, signals, posts, etc.) under a variety of weather conditions.  Veoneer’s 4th generation stereo vision camera system uses Convolutional Neural Network technology for free space and small obstacle detection to maneuver safely through construction areas and within road boundaries.

Veoneer’s latest generation of advanced 77GHz radars provide more reliable and accurate situational awareness of vulnerable road users, pedestrians and bicyclists as input to the vehicle safety system. The radar design uses super-pulse modulation techniques for enhanced perception and operates at  a distance up to 150-meters with high range resolution and supreme angular accuracy. The radars have 50% more range in the rear corners to detect motorcycles and over 100% more range in the front corners.

NEWARK, California, Sept. 10, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Lucid Motors, which seeks to set new standards for sustainable transportation with its advanced luxury EVs, today unveiled production details for the highly anticipated Lucid Air in a global web broadcast from its Silicon Valley headquarters. Having already set new industry benchmarks in the EV and luxury segments in key areas related to performance, efficiency, and design, deliveries of this new pure-electric luxury sedan will start in spring of 2021.

Using Space to Create the Air

The Lucid Air is the result of a revolutionary approach to automotive packaging called the Lucid Space Concept, which capitalizes upon the miniaturization of Lucid’s in-house developed EV drivetrain to optimize interior cabin space. The concept is central to the architecture of the Lucid Electric Advanced Platform (LEAP) upon which the Lucid Air, and forthcoming Lucid vehicles, will be built. It’s a holistic, clean-sheet approach to advanced EV construction, without using existing «off the shelf» solutions so often seen in EVs from legacy automakers.

In front of the driver is a 34-inch curved Glass Cockpit 5K display that «floats» above the dashboard, contributing to the light and airy feel of the interior. In addition, a retractable central Pilot Panel sits in finger-tip reach of the driver and passenger for deeper control of the vehicle’s systems and functions. A Dream Becomes Reality

The Lucid Air will be available initially in North America, offered in four model ranges:

  • The Air, the starting point for the lineup, available in 2022 and starting below $80,000 ($72,500 after USA federal tax credit)*
  • The well-equipped Air Touring model, available late 2021, from $95,000 ($87,500 after USA federal tax credit)*
  • The fully equipped Air Grand Touring, available mid 2021, from $139,000 ($131,500 after USA federal tax credit)*

Dream Edition
The Lucid Air Dream Edition will feature a unique combination of Lucid attributes and technology, combining incredible performance with exceptional range. The 1,080hp luxury EV sedan will be available in Stellar White, Infinite Black, or a Dream Edition-exclusive Eureka Gold finish. Each color will come with an exclusive «Santa Monica» themed interior trim package, including full Nappa grain Bridge of Weir leather throughout and silvered Eucalyptus wood accents. The Dream Edition will also feature a unique 21-inch «AeroDream» wheel design and be highlighted by special badging and trim that marks its position as a limited-production halo edition of the Lucid Air.

Touring and Grand Touring Editions
The heart of the Lucid Air lineup will be the Air Touring and Air Grand Touring models, which offer 620hp and 800hp respectively. The Air Grand Touring will have range available up to the recently announced estimated EPA rating of 517 miles. Availability
Reservations are open now for customers across the US and Canada, as well as in select countries in Europe and the Middle East. Those who are inspired can reserve the Lucid Air via a $1,000 USD refundable deposit or the limited production Dream Edition with a $7,500 USD refundable deposit. The luxury sedan will also be available through the 20 Lucid Studios and Service Centers that are planned to be open across North America by the close of 2021. European and Middle East market delivery dates, pricing, and sales and service center details will be announced at a later date.

Production at the Lucid Motors factory in Casa Grande, Arizona, will begin in the coming months, with deliveries of the Lucid Air to North American customers to commence in spring of 2021.
