Automobile production in North America is concentrated mostly in the U.S. Midwest, but recent years have seen notable growth in the number of vehicles produced in Mexico as set manufacturers move into the country, expand their factory capacity and significantly step up production, also leading to increased automobile production in the geographically nearby U.S. Southeast, which includes the state of Alabama.

The Center will handle distribution center (DC) operations for Mazda model parts manufactured by Mazda Toyota Manufacturing U.S.A., Inc. (hereinafter, «MTMUS»), a joint venture between Mazda Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation scheduled to begin full-scale production of finished vehicles from fiscal 2021, and it will provide services synchronized to MTMUS’s production as it seeks to establish itself as a primary logistics partner.

Using the completion of this new facility as a springboard, NEUSA will be looking to handle a variety of operations for parts/material suppliers and set manufacturers in the U.S. Southeast, and to expand its customer base beyond the automotive industry to further augment the Nippon Express Group’s business infrastructure.

In establishing this Center, Nippon Express is aiming to further extend its logistics services across the U.S. and step up its efforts targeting the automotive industry, positioned as a priority industry in the Nippon Express Group’s Medium-term Management Plan.

BEIJING, Feb. 5, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Baidu, Inc. (NASDAQ: BIDU) affirmed its comprehensive leadership position in China’s autonomous driving industry with the results of the recently-published 2020 Beijing Autonomous Vehicles Road Test Report, in which Baidu Apollo topped industry peers across every testing category for the third consecutive year. In addition to maintaining the largest fleet of test vehicles and accumulating the highest total testing mileage, Baidu is also the first and only company that has obtained permission to operate fully driverless road tests on public roads in Beijing, which will enable Baidu to spearhead the development of smart transportation in the intelligent era.

Baidu was the leading company across all four categories—number of vehicles for general technology testing, number of vehicles piloting autonomous vehicle passenger service, number of vehicles carrying out fully driverless testing, and total mileage of testing—in the 2020 edition of the Beijing Autonomous Vehicles Road Test Report, which is the only authoritative industry assessment of its kind published in China.

As the world’s leading open platform for autonomous driving, Baidu was early in commencing road testing initiatives in Beijing, and leads the industry in areas including total number of testing vehicles, scale of testing, and diversification of testing scenarios. Baidu has achieved a cumulative mileage of 2,019,230 kilometers over a three-year period in Beijing, accounting for 91.23% of Beijing’s total testing mileage in three years. In 2020, Baidu operated a fleet of 55 autonomous vehicles on the roads of Beijing, accounting for 75% of the overall number of vehicles that conducted automated driving tests in the city. Baidu also accumulated 1,125,305 kilometers of total testing distance, comprising 95.92% of the total autonomous vehicle testing distance in the municipality. This impressive record mileage represents a 49.24% increase in comparison to previous efforts in 2019. To put Baidu’s achievements in perspective, a total number of 87 vehicles from 14 companies had received general road testing permits in Beijing as of December 31, 2020, according to the report.

In late 2020, Baidu was awarded with five autonomous vehicle driverless testing permits from the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport, marking the inaugural batch of permits issued to a company that allow driverless vehicles on public roads. In preparation for this achievement, Baidu has collaborated with the Beijing Innovation Center for Mobility Intelligent to optimize test parameters and technological specifications by running 64,827 kilometers of driverless vehicle testing in Beijing.

As part of its push to commercialize autonomous driving technologies, Baidu Apollo launched the Apollo Go Robotaxi service in Beijing, as part of the third phase of its autonomous vehicle passenger service pilot. From October 10 to December 31, a total of 15,006 users hailed an Apollo Go Robotaxi through their mobile devices. The Apollo Go experience was well received, with over 90% of riders stating that they would like to continue using this service in the future.

With a total of 200 autonomous vehicle testing roads across four districts comprising of a distance of 699.58 kilometers, Beijing has become the leading city for promoting domestic autonomous driving initiatives in China, with Baidu spearheading its growth. Adhering to stringent principles of safety and fostering an aura of innovation, Beijing was one of the earliest cities in China to regulate autonomous driving technology and establish comprehensive industry standards.

The milestones attained by Apollo in 2020 are a testament to Baidu’s prowess and leadership in the autonomous driving industry. Going forward, Baidu will continue to drive the cutting-edge developments of smart transportation in China.

Volaris reports January 2021 traffic results: 1.5 million passengers transported, 97% of 2020 January capacity levels

MEXICO CITY, Feb. 4, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Volaris* (NYSE: VLRS and BMV: VOLAR), the ultra-low-cost airline serving Mexico, the United States and Central America, reports January 2021 preliminary traffic results.

MEXICO CITY, Feb. 4, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Volaris* (NYSE: VLRS and BMV: VOLAR), the ultra-low-cost airline serving Mexico, the United States and Central America, reports January 2021 preliminary traffic results.

Volaris continued to successfully navigate the challenges arising from the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic in January as Mexico experienced a new wave of infections in recent weeks. For January 2021 Volaris posted one of the fastest recoveries worldwide as measured by available seat miles (ASMs), a result of its strong ultra-low-cost business model focused on the visiting friends and relatives and leisure segments in the domestic Mexico and US-transborder markets. Despite the progress made in the fourth quarter 2020, challenges in the current period remain elevated with COVID-19 case counts increasing in both Mexico and the US.

In January 2021, capacity measured by ASMs (Available Seat Miles) was 97% compared to the same month of last year. Demand measured by RPMs (Revenue Passenger Miles) was 83% of last year. Volaris transported 1.5 million passengers during January 2021. Booked load factor for January 2021 was 73.9%.

Volaris’ President and Chief Executive Officer, Enrique Beltranena, commenting on the traffic results for January 2021, said: «Volaris remains well prepared with a solid market position cemented over the past year, demonstrating the power and strength of our ultra-low-cost business model. Historically, our first quarter is more challenging and in pandemic times it is even more so. We will continue to preserve liquidity while, at the same time, explore new growth opportunities. We believe Volaris’ ultra-low-cost structure and market-leading footprint in the domestic market will continue to position our Company at the lead of the airline industry recovery.»

For the first quarter, the Company expects demand weakness and booking curves to compress. Volaris operates approximately 30% of its network from Mexico to the US and expects a short-term reduction in demand for cross border flights as a result of recent US regulations requiring international passengers arriving in the US to have completed a negative COVID-19 test not more than 72 hours prior to departure. As a result, the Company’s network plans for the first quarter of 2021 will be more conservative, focused on deploying appropriate levels of capacity to align with the changing demand environment. At present, Volaris intends to operate approximately 80% of capacity as compared to the same period of last year, as measured by ASMs. This still represents a strong capacity comeback from the pandemic versus the industry.

MEXICO CITY, Feb. 4, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, S.A.B. de C.V.  (NYSE: ASR; BMV: ASUR) ASUR, a leading international airport group with operations in Mexico, the U.S. and Colombia, today announced that total passenger traffic for January 2021 decreased 43.7% when compared to January 2020. Passenger traffic decreased 44.1% in Mexico, 40.1% in Puerto Rico and 45.4% in Colombia, impacted by severe downturns in business and leisure travel stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has expanded the requirement for negative COVID-19 tests to all air passengers entering the US as of January 26, 2021. According to the CDC, pre- and post-trip testing is a critical layer in slowing the introduction and spread of COVID-19. This strategy is consistent with the current phase of the pandemic and intended to more effectively protect the health of US citizens. Within three days of departure to the United States, passengers are required to obtain a viral test and provide the airline on which they are traveling written documentation of their negative test result or documentation that evidences that they have recovered from COVID-19. Additionally, passengers must get tested again 3 to 5 days after arrival in the US and self-quarantine for 7 days after their arrival. Beginning January 7, 2021, Canada has established similar testing requirements for air passengers travelling to the country. Subsequently, the Canadian government suspended flights between Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean until April 30, 2021.

This passenger traffic announcement reflects comparisons between January 1 through January 31, 2021 and from January 1 through January 31, 2020. Transit and general aviation passengers are excluded from traffic measurements for Mexico and Colombia.

#OutriggerPromise: Love Your Hawaii Holiday or Get Another One For Free

HONOLULU, Feb. 4, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Outrigger Hotels and Resorts today unveiled The Outrigger Promise with a bold pledge: guests will love their Hawaii holiday at Outrigger, and if not – the premier beach resort brand will credit the guest for a future stay, on…

HONOLULU, Feb. 4, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Outrigger Hotels and Resorts today unveiled The Outrigger Promise with a bold pledge: guests will love their Hawaii holiday at Outrigger, and if not – the premier beach resort brand will credit the guest for a future stay, on the house. While some hotel chains have a satisfaction guarantee on the room product – this experiential promise is by all accounts an industry first.

Hawaii is the #1 destination that U.S. travelers now day-dream about visiting, according to a recent coronavirus travel sentiment index report by Destination Analysts. Additionally, a study released this week from Hawaii Tourism Authority showed that 94% of recent visitors to Hawaii said their trip either met or exceeded their expectations. The Outrigger Promise enables adventure seekers, solo explorers, families and friends to book the future trip they have been dreaming about, with confidence.

«Now that the State of Hawaii Safe Travels protocols are in place, vaccines are becoming available and hope is on the horizon, The Outrigger Promise further inspires travelers to make meaningful memories in one of the most naturally beautiful and culturally rich places on earth,» said Sean Dee, EVP and chief marketing officer for Outrigger Hospitality Group. «Here at Outrigger in Waikiki, we’re confident that visitors will love their Hawaii vacation with us – if they don’t, we’ll credit them a future stay. Promise.»

Participating properties include the iconic Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort, located on the sands fronting world-famous «canoes» surf spot and home of Duke’s Waikiki restaurant, plus the all-new Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger, Hawaii’s only craft hotel in the heart of Waikiki, anchored by Maui Brewing Co. restaurant. Further underscoring Outrigger’s promise to providing guests with a worry-free stay in paradise, both locations follow strict cleaning and sanitation guidelines under Outrigger’s Clean Commitment, with an enhanced focus on the health and safety of both guests and hosts.

THE OUTRIGGER PROMISE:
We promise that guests who stay at Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort or Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger for four nights or more in 2021 will love their Hawaii experience; if they don’t, they can simply phone Outrigger’s call center to be credited for a future stay, subject to applicable terms and conditions.

Here’s a sampling of safe and fun experiences that may be available and could help make this 2021 vacation exceptional:

  • Surf: The turquoise waters fronting Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort is where modern surfing was born and where legendary Duke Kahanamoku inspired the world. Take a surf or stand-up paddle board (SUP) lesson, or catch a wave in an outrigger canoe with our partners at Faith Surf School. No matter how big or small, the rush of sliding down a Waikiki wave with Diamond Head in the distance, is a swell time and elicits a joy like no other.
  • Nature: Research suggests that being in nature makes us happier and healthier; outdoor excursions have a positive effect on our brains and our bodies. Hawaii’s consistent, balmy temperature of 78 to 85 degrees offers ample opportunity for open-air adventures. So stop and smell the plumeria, hike up Diamond Head and hunt for rainbows, go snorkelling at Hanauma Bay and watch for friendly green sea turtles – a symbol of good luck.
  • Fresh Flavors: Honolulu has emerged as a major U.S. culinary mecca, with a melting pot of eateries that utilize fresh, local ingredients to create mouth-watering dishes with influences from around the globe. Sample fiercely local craft beers and bites from the State’s largest indoor bar at Maui Brew Co. Grab an Instagram-worthy papaya smoothie bowl from Sunrise Shack or duck into Duke’s Waikiki – the iconic beachfront restaurant for some fresh fare and famous Hula Pie. Foodies will delight at Roy’s Waikiki for upscale pacific-rim cuisine.
  • Culture: The spirit of aloha – living a life of kindness and compassion – is found in the cultural expressions of art, dance, music and more. See the stories of Hawaii’s past gracefully come alive during hula performances at Waikiki Beach Walk then learn to dance with a free hula class on Sunday mornings. Live Hawaiian music serenades guests at Blue Note Hawaii and at stages across Waikiki. Plus, guests of Outrigger get free admission to Honolulu Museum of Art and discounted tickets to Bishop Museum – two distinct institutions to explore the history, culture and environment of Hawaii and beyond.
  • Give Back: The Outrigger Way is to care for its hosts, care for its guests and care for the places where it does business. Outrigger is deeply committed to doing its part to protect and preserve Hawaii’s natural environment. Guests too can do their part to give-back to the destination and have hands-on experiences with Outrigger’s Malama Hawaii eco-adventure package with Kualoa Ranch. Or they can learn more about the importance of coral conservation through the Outrigger’s ZONE (OZONE) initiative – then lather up with complimentary reef-safe sunscreen from All Good before enjoying the Hawaii sunshine.

Guests are encouraged to share their Hawaii experiences on social media, leveraging the hashtag #OutriggerPromise.

To be eligible for The Outrigger Promise, travelers must book a minimum four-night stay at Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort or Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger only through the following channels: directly at Outrigger.com or by calling 1-866-256-8461 within the booking window of Feb. 4, 2021 through May 1, 2021 for stays within the period of March 1, 2021 through Dec. 21, 2021.
