IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Team Telluriders triumphantly crossed the finish line in the 2020 Telluride in the fifth annual Rebelle Rally, coming in overall second place in the X-Cross class. The powerhouse duo, made up of Alyssa Roenigk (driver) and Sabrina Howells (navigator), demonstrated their «Give it Everything» attitude, using their invaluable set of skills to make smart and calculated decisions tailored to the Telluride’s capability, ultimately allowing it to shine and finish the tough, off-road rally.

Telluriders Team celebrates victory on the Rebelle Rally podium

«This is a momentous achievement for Kia,» said Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia Motors North America & Kia Motors America. «Thanks to Alyssa and Sabrina’s grit in the arduous Rebelle Rally, they helped raise the Telluride’s credibility to new heights. Their huge accomplishment will go down in Kia history and we couldn’t be more proud of our team.»

From Lake Tahoe to the border of Mexico, Team Telluriders graciously handled whatever challenges the course threw at them. After facing tougher obstacles on rocky terrain at the start, Alyssa and Sabrina were keen on the Telluride’s strengths, using it to their advantage in the following days to result in several stage wins.

«Alyssa, Sabrina and the Telluride did such a great job in this year’s rally,» said Rebelle Rally founder, Emily Miller. We consider the vehicle as the third teammate, and all three handled the challenge with grace. They are an exceptional team.»

The team was able to clinch second place in the X-Cross class after excelling in the sand dunes, where the Telluride effortlessly floated over the sandy landscape to hit several checkpoints first before several competitors, taking the win for the most points scored on the final day of the competition.

«We are so proud of our overall performance and our comeback to take second in the X-Cross category at the 2020 Rebelle Rally,» said Alyssa and Sabrina. «On the final day, when we pulled up to  checkpoints deep in the Imperial Sand Dunes and saw the look on the faces of the 4×4 teams when we beat them there – that is a memory that will stick in our minds for a long time. The Telluride was an incredibly capable third teammate and we were grateful for the opportunity to take her on such an awesome adventure.»

Kia was a first-time competitor in the fifth annual Rebelle Rally, competing in the X-Cross Class with minimal modifications, including a skidplate to protect the fuel and oil pan area and all-terrain tires.

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Bay-Area drivers who are in need of a vehicle to use for a weekend getaway, business purposes or to simply try before they buy can find what they need at San Francisco Toyota; the dealership best known for its selection of new Toyota models also offers Toyota rentals.

Vehicles available to rent from San Francisco Toyota include the popular and efficient Corolla, the family-friendly Camry sedan, the adventurous RAV4 crossover SUV, the spacious Sienna minivan, the brand-new Toyota Venza and more. The dealership also provides numerous hybrid variants for rent, including the Prius, with hybrids representing roughly eighty percent of their rental fleet.

All-wheel drive (AWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) versions of their SUVs are also available to rent, and it won’t cost renters any additional fee just for those drivetrains. With winter right around the corner, an AWD or 4WD vehicle might present a great opportunity for anyone who is looking to take a trip up to the snow with a vehicle better equipped to handle those slick roads.

When customers are booking their rental, they can be assured that the vehicle they have chosen is the vehicle they will get, rather than potentially being handed a similar but entirely different make and model when they arrive to pick it up. Furthermore, San Francisco Toyota has no day restrictions on rentals.

Certain requirements must be met in order to rent. The renter must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license. A valid major credit card must be presented when picking up the rental on which the rental fee will be charged. Additionally, the driver must have a current full auto insurance policy that is transferable to rentals. Drivers under age 25 will be subject to an additional fee, and anyone who intends to drive the rental must also meet these requirements.

For more information on car rentals at San Francisco Toyota, interested parties are encouraged to call 415-504-1947 or visit http://www.sftoyota.com.

DURHAM, N.C., Oct. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Tyrata, Inc., a tire sensor and data management company, has raised $2.9 million in financing from global investors. Tyrata was able to raise the funds in spite of significant COVID-19 pandemic headwinds, a confirmation of the persistent market-demand for automated tread depth monitoring and the strength of Tyrata’s technology and data services offering. The funds will be used to complete customer qualification of the IntelliTread™ Drive-Over System (DOS), establish high-volume manufacturing in global markets and speed development of the Tyrata Internal Tread Sensor product line.

The IntelliTread™ Drive-Over System was developed based on the unmet need for low-cost, easy-to-deploy tread wear monitoring in both passenger and commercial vehicle fleets. DOS collects tire wear data when a vehicle drives over a speed-bump-like unit which is then linked to cloud-based data analytics to alert service and depot managers as to the actual condition of the tire tread in real time. The system automates critical safety and tire management processes that are typically costly, slow and labor-intensive, and provides daily feedback for a more efficient and safer operation.

Tyrata’s close collaboration with the world’s top tire manufacturers and fleets will enable the company to deploy and optimize the IntelliTread™ Drive-Over System (DOS) and data analytics platform with existing tire management, as well as speed development of new tire business models driving renewed competitiveness and profitably for their customers. Tyrata recently announced that the Marubeni Corporation will have rights to distribute and service Tyrata’s DOS platform in Japan and will begin introducing DOS units to its customers in the fourth quarter of 2020.

«Despite COVID’s impact on the business environment, Tyrata has been able to sustain operations and is now well-positioned to ramp up its products and services,» said Jesko von Windheim, CEO of Tyrata. «Our ability to raise funds in these difficult times further confirms the need for solutions that optimize existing operations and spark business innovation within the tire service industry.»

Tyrata is seeking additional investors to close out the current round of financing. Interested organizations may contact Luka Lojk at Luka.Lojk@Tyrata.com or +1-704-593-8418 for more information.

About Tyrata
Tyrata, Inc., is a tire sensor and data management company offering tire health solutions for fleet management, tire manufacturers and automotive service centers. The company’s IntelliTread™ technology monitors, tracks and predicts tire tread life, and is the only technology on the market that delivers direct measurements of tread depth in real-time. Sensors are linked to cloud-based data management and analytics to warn drivers, service advisors and depot managers when tires are dangerously thin. Tyrata is dedicated to improving tire safety, reducing maintenance costs and increasing profitability for its customers. For more information, visit www.tyrata.com.

Nexteer Unveils New High-Output Electric Power Steering System

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Nexteer Automotive launches High-Output Electric Power Steering (EPS) that delivers advanced safety and comfort features as well as enhanced fuel efficiency for heavy-duty (HD) trucks and light commercial vehicles (LCVs).

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Nexteer Automotive launches High-Output Electric Power Steering (EPS) that delivers advanced safety and comfort features as well as enhanced fuel efficiency for heavy-duty (HD) trucks and light commercial vehicles (LCVs).

Now with the ability to steer these vehicle types electrically, drivers of HD trucks and LCVs can benefit from savings at the gas pump and from advanced features such as lane keep assist, crosswind compensation, trailer assist and more.

High-Output EPS increases the steering capacity of Nexteer’s industry-leading Rack-Assist EPS (REPS) system. A High-Output EPS system can steer up to 24 kilonewtons (kN) of load compared with 10-15 kN for a typical REPS system.

«With Nexteer’s High-Output EPS system, larger vehicles like heavy-duty trucks can now be steered with an electric system instead of a hydraulic one – opening the door for EPS’s advanced safety, comfort and fuel efficiency while staying true to the truck brand’s steering feel,» said Robin Milavec, Senior Vice President, Executive Board Director, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), Nexteer Automotive. «As a steering specialist and the global leader in steering technologies for trucks, we are never satisfied with the status quo, which is why we continue to push research and development activities that continuously improve our EPS offerings and benefit our OEM customers and drivers.»

With much of the HD truck and LCV market currently using hydraulic power steering (HPS) systems, High-Output EPS offers automotive OEMs an opportunity to differentiate their HD trucks and LCVs in a competitive marketplace for consumer attention and loyalty.

High-Output EPS can also be utilized on heavy electric vehicles. Steering up to 24 kN of load on a 12-volt electrical system would have been thought to be unachievable just a few years ago, but now that capability exists with High-Output EPS.

To date, Nexteer has booked three electric applications for High-Output EPS, including a full-size electric pick-up truck, an electric LCV (delivery van) and an electric autonomous Level 4 people mover (with no steering wheel).

In addition to High-Output EPS, Nexteer offers a complete portfolio of EPS systems that can steer vehicles of all sizes. Other EPS solutions from Nexteer include REPS, Dual Pinion-Assist EPS (DPEPS), Single Pinion-Assist EPS (SPEPS), Column-Assist EPS (CEPS) and High-Availability EPS.

ABOUT NEXTEER
Nexteer Automotive (HK 1316), a global leader in intuitive motion control, is a multi-billion dollar global steering and driveline business delivering electric and hydraulic power steering systems, steering columns, driveline systems, as well as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving enabling technologies for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Internova Travel Execs Take Historic Flight to Test Digital Health Pass

NEW YORK, Oct. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — In a global initiative to enable safer air and cross-border travel, Internova Travel Group joined The Commons Project Foundation in successfully testing its CommonPass digital health pass for travelers to document their verified COVID-19 test status on a transatlantic flight.

<a href="https://mma.prnewswire.com/media/1317518/PR_Newswire_CommonPass.html" target="_blank"…

In a global initiative to enable safer air and cross-border travel, Internova Travel Group (including CEO J.D. O'Hara, top) joined The Commons Project Foundation in successfully testing its CommonPass digital health pass for travelers to document their verified COVID-19 test status on a transatlantic flight.

The successful international trial of CommonPass, tested on a flight from London to New York, was led by Internova executives J.D. O’Hara, CEO; Peter Vlitas, Senior Vice President, Airline Relations; Jason Oshiokpekhai, Managing Director, Global Travel Collection (GTC); and Arif Kamal, Director of Revenue Management, GTC. The purpose of the trip was to establish the viability of a verified «digital health pass,» which provides a global framework for lab results and vaccination records to be verified and shared with border control.

Internova has been working closely with The Commons Project and the World Economic Forum to find a long-term solution to replace travel bans and quarantines with the ability to verify individual health and test result data while maintaining privacy standards.

The executives traveled Oct. 21 on United Airlines Flight 15 from London Heathrow to Newark Liberty International Airport. Prior to departure, they downloaded the CommonPass app, answered screening questions and took a COVID-19 test at the airport. A negative test result generated a digital health pass via a QR code, which allowed them to board the flight at London-Heathrow Airport.

«The ability to verify health information in a secure, verified manner will allow countries and regions to open borders and restart the travel industry along with the economic activity that comes with it,» said O’Hara. «This CommonPass pilot demonstrates that we have a means of enabling safer cross-border travel by giving both travelers and governments confidence in the COVID-19 status of every traveler.»

O’Hara said his commitment to finding safer ways to restart travel fueled his interest in participating in the transatlantic trial to experience the viability of the process. He described the experience as «easy to understand, quick and efficient,» adding, «I consider the trial a resounding success and feel sure that travelers will soon have the confidence to get back in the air in a safe and secure manner.»

Paul Meyer, CEO at the Commons Project, stated, «The goal of the trials is to replicate the full traveler experience of taking a test for COVID-19 prior to departure, uploading the result to their phones, and demonstrating their compliance with entry requirements at their departure and destination airports. The digital health pass allows countries and regions seeking ways to ‘thoughtfully reopen’ their borders an alternative to travel bans and quarantines.»

At present, COVID-19 test results for travel are frequently shared on printed paper – or photos of the paper – from unknown labs, often written in languages foreign to those inspecting them.

«It’s critical that we find safe ways to reopen travel. Travel and tourism accounts for 10 percent of global GDP, or nearly $9 trillion. A verifiable and standardized way to share test or vaccine status on an international scale is critical to restoring confidence in our air transportation system,» said Internova’s Vlitas. «The safety of its citizens is paramount to any government’s decision to replace quarantines with testing. We are at a point that effective testing, a reliable medical registry, such as CommonPass, combined with contact tracing done by travel advisors can offer that solution.»

CommonPass adheres to tight privacy principles and is designed to protect personal data in compliance with relevant privacy regulations, including General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

«Without the ability to trust COVID-19 tests – and eventually vaccine records – across international borders, many countries will feel compelled to retain full travel bans and mandatory quarantines for as long as the pandemic persists,» said Dr. Bradley Perkins, Chief Medical Officer of The Commons Project and former Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). «With trusted individual health data, countries can implement more nuanced health screening requirements for entry.»

CommonPass and the CommonPass Framework are being launched by the World Economic Forum and The Commons Project, a Swiss-based non-profit foundation building global digital services and platforms for the common good, in collaboration with a broad coalition of public and private partners around the world, including government representatives from 37 countries across six continents. The nonprofit received start-up funding from the Rockefeller Foundation.

The volunteers involved in the United Airlines trial adhered to all entry and testing rules. At London Heathrow, tests from private testing company Prenetics were administered by the travel and medical services firm Collinson in the dedicated COVID-19 testing facilities set up with their partner Swissport.

United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are observing the trials.

Cox Automotive COVID-19 Research: Pandemic Concerns Wane, Displaced by Politics

ATLANTA, Oct. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Despite rising COVID-19 cases in many states, concerns about the pandemic seem to be waning and, in many cases, are being replaced by concern over the upcoming presidential election. Among U.S. automobile dealers, 43% believe COVID-19 and the upcoming election are both equally concerning, according to a study released today by the Cox Automotive Research & Market Intelligence team.

Pandemic concern peaked in the second quarter and has been moving steadily downward since summer. Still, with 61% of consumers extremely or very concerned about COVID-19, the pandemic and resulting economic struggles continue to weigh heavily on the vehicle market. The most recent data from Cox Automotive indicates the percent of consumers in market for a new vehicle, at 14%, has dropped to the lowest level in 2020.

«COVID-19: Tracking U.S. Consumer and Automotive Dealer Sentiment» is ongoing research from Cox Automotive designed to shed light on consumer and automobile dealer attitudes and behaviors during the pandemic. The research began in late March and has been updated regularly through mid-October. Key takeaways from the latest report include:

  1. Consumer concern over COVID-19 continues to decline. Concern over the pandemic peaked in April, with 71% of consumers extremely/very concerned. After dropping through the summer, consumer concern now stands at a still-high 61%. Financial concerns persist for many consumers as well, resulting in fewer shoppers in market. The auto market rebound that dealers were experiencing this summer has stalled.

  2. As the presidential election approaches, it’s occupying more mindshare with both consumers and dealers. Among auto dealers, 43% believe COVID-19 and the upcoming election are both equally concerning. In no great surprise, consumers are mostly split on how the outcome will impact them personally. Dealers are more definitive, with a larger percentage expecting better financial performance should the current administration prevail in the election.

  3. Uncertainty around COVID-19 continues to drive financial concern for many consumers and has amplified the need to evolve for some dealers. The prospect of another year like 2020 has consumers concerned for their financial stability, with 1 in 5 depleting their savings in 2021 should the pandemic continue. For dealers, it’s clear they are more open to considering new ways of doing business than ever before. Three out of four dealers are now conducting some of their business beyond their dealerships, embracing digital retail and service pick-up and delivery activities.

FRANKLIN, Tenn., Oct. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is celebrating dealer partners who go above and beyond for their communities. They provide more than just a great place to buy a car – they help their home towns thrive in the good times and heal in the challenging times. They rise to the occasion in support of the community, whatever the occasion may be. This month, we are proud to feature Ginny McClinton-Bowden, dealer principal of McClinton Mitsubishi.

Five Questions with Ginny McClinton Bowden
McClinton Mitsubishi, Parkersburg, West Virginia

  1. If we walked into McClinton Mitsubishi today, we might be greeted by one of your 25 plus employees, or we might be greeted by the shop dogs – Cotton and Mavis. Tell us about them! Cotton and Mavis love going to work! More importantly, the employees and customers love having them there. We nicknamed Cotton «The Closer.» Cotton is an English Cocker Spaniel. She has an infectious personality and wiggles her entire body when she greets people. She’s great with kids and makes everyone feel comfortable and happy. Mavis, on the other hand, is much more laid back and usually finds a cozy spot under someone’s desk. Mavis is an English Labrador Retriever. Our furry family is growing – Mavis just had six puppies six weeks ago. We are keeping one pup and her name is Rebel. Rebel is the smallest of the litter, but holds her own and manages to find weak spots in the fence to get out. Never a dull moment at McClinton Mitsubishi!

  2. McClinton Auto Group was started by your great grandfather 105 years ago. Today, you are the dealer principal, your father owns the business, and your husband is the general manager. What does carrying on the family business mean to you? Our motto is A Tradition of Trust. It is because of my family’s integrity, honesty and hard work that we have made it to 105 years. My father never wanted me to feel pressure to take over the family business. He wanted me to experience life on my own and work different jobs in different locations before deciding to return to Parkersburg and take on this challenge. My husband, Wyn, and I made the decision together four years ago to move back to WV from Arkansas, Wyn’s home state. It is an honor and a privilege to be given this opportunity and it is with great pride that we do our best to fill my father, grandfather and great grandfather’s shoes. We owe it to my family, the community, the employees and ourselves to continue this tradition of trust.

  3. You treat your staff like family, because they are family! How have you been able to navigate together through the COVID-19 pandemic? It has certainly been an interesting and difficult year to say the least. There is no playbook for this. All individuals, companies and businesses are taking it one day at a time, as are we. We are fortunate to have a great team of people whom many have been with us for 20+ years. The statement «we will get through this together» holds true for us. Our company has made it through a lot of challenging times over the years – The Great Depression, WWII, 1980s crash, 9/11 and 2008 crash, to name a few. We do not accept the mentality of «that’s not my job.» We all work together, and get things done. I have learned quickly that the people in the auto industry wear many hats and roll with the punches. We spend a lot of time together at the dealership and do what we can to support one another through the thick and thin.

  4. In many ways, you represent the next generation of automobile dealers. What advice do you have for other young professionals, busy at work and at home, who are looking to get into this industry? That is a great question! The industry is changing at a rapid pace. I have spent much of my past three years trying to bring my family’s dealership up to speed with the rest of the industry. We have tried to mesh old school with new school to the best of our ability. It is my goal to stay ahead of the eight ball and be the dealership that sets the tone for our community and how they buy and service their vehicles. My advice to someone interested in the automobile industry is to be ready to give it your all. It’s exciting, stressful, challenging, invigorating and can provide you and your family a wonderful life. The sky is the limit, but you have to want it, and you have to work hard for it.

  5. Parkersburg is a tight-knit community, and McClinton Mitsubishi has been part of the fabric for a very long time. How are you working to address the current and future needs of the community, and why is this important to you? The very first thing that comes to mind is that we wouldn’t be in business this long without this tight-knit community. We are so proud of 105 years in business and are very aware of the importance of serving this community. We thank them for their many years of support and trust. For most people, their vehicle is one of the biggest and most important purchases of their life! We want their experience to be enjoyable and comfortable. We believe the only way to accomplish this is to treat people with the respect they deserve and provide them with the reassurance that we will take care of them and all of their vehicle needs.
