Greek islands of Lesvos, Santorini, Serifos, Tinos and Zakynthos added to travel corridor list

PR Newswire

LONDON, 08 October 2020 /PRNewswire Policy/ —

From 4am Saturday 10 October, people arriving in England from Lesvos, Santorini, Serifos, Tinos and Zakynthos will not need to self-isolate for 2 weeks.

The Greek islands of Lesvos, Santorini, Serifos, Tinos and Zakynthos have been added to the government’s travel corridor list following a decrease in confirmed cases of coronavirus.

From 4am on Saturday 10 October 2020, passengers arriving to England from these destinations will no longer need to self-isolate, so long as they haven’t been in or transited through any other non-exempt countries in the 14 days preceding their arrival.

The JBC’s latest risk assessment for these Greek islands indicates that the risks to UK public health from travellers returning from these destinations has decreased to an acceptable level. A range of factors are taken into account when deciding to add or remove a destination from the exemption list, including the continued increase of coronavirus within an area, the numbers of new cases, information on a destination’s testing capacity, testing regime and test positivity rate and potential trajectory of the disease in the coming weeks.

At the same time, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has also updated its travel advice with Lesvos, Santorini, Serifos, Tinos and Zakynthos now exempt from the FCDO’s global advisory against non-essential travel.

No countries have been removed from the travel corridor list this week.

The government has made consistently clear it will take decisive action if necessary to contain the virus, including removing countries from the travel corridors list rapidly if the public health risk of people returning from a particular country without self-isolating becomes too high.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) has profoundly changed the nature of international travel. Travellers should always check the latest advice from the FCDO, given the potential for changing coronavirus infection rates to affect both the advice about travelling to other countries and rules about self-isolation on return.

All travellers, including those from exempt destinations, will still be required to show a completed passenger locator form on arrival into the UK unless they fall into a small group of exemptions.

Penalties for those breaching the self-isolation rules when returning from non-exempt countries have increased from 1,000 pounds for first offences up to 10,000 pounds for subsequent offences, mirroring penalties for those breaching self-isolation following a positive COVID-19 test or contact from Test and Trace.

Aircraft Seating Market by Class, Type, End-use, Aircraft Type, Materials, Components, and Region – Global Forecast to 2026

DUBLIN, Oct. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The «Aircraft Seating Market by Class (Business, First, Premium Economy, and Economy), Type (9g and 16g), End Use (OEM, Aftermarket, and MRO), Aircraft Type (NBA, WBA, VLA, RTA and Business Jets), Materials, Components, and Region – Global Forecast to 2026» report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com’s offering.

Research and Markets Logo

The global aircraft seating market size is projected to grow from USD 4.1 Billion in 2020 to USD 5.8 Billion by 2026, at a CAGR of 5.8%

The market is driven by various factors, such as the growing demand for seats installed with IFEC systems, increasing the number of premium economy seats, and maintenance & retrofitting of existing aircraft are the major drivers of aircraft seating market.

The aircraft seating market includes major players Safran (Zodiac Aerospace) (France), Collins Aerospace (US), Geven S.p.A. (Italy), RECARO Aircraft Seating (Germany), and HAECO (Hong Kong). These players have spread their business across various countries includes North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa, and South America. COVID-19 has impacted their businesses as well. Industry experts believe that COVID-19 could affect aircraft seating production and services by 7-10% globally in 2020.

OEM: The fastest-growing segment of the aircraft seating market, by end-use.

The OEM segment is expected to be the largest market by value. The growth of the OEM segment of the aircraft seating market can be attributed to the growing demand for seats installed with IFEC systems, increasing number of premium economy seats.

WBA: The fastest-growing segment of the aircraft seating market, by aircraft type.

Based on aircraft type, the wide-body aircraft segment is projected to be the highest CAGR rate for the aircraft seating market during the forecast period. The demand for interiors in wide boy aircraft is comparatively more than narrow body aircraft and regional transport aircraft as there is more space to install wide seats and other cabin interior products. Major airlines operating wide body aircraft are focusing on upgrading their interiors to the latest technologies.

16G: The fastest-growing segment of the aircraft seating market, by seat type.

The 16G segment is the fastest-growing segment of the aircraft seating market. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), passenger aircraft should have seats capable of withstanding 16 times the force of gravity to increase the chances of survivability of passengers and flight attendants in case of accidents. New seats undergo a series of tests to determine their strength, similar to crash tests which have to meet FAA safety standards.

Asia Pacific: The fastest-growing region in the aircraft seating market.

Asia Pacific is projected to be the highest CAGR rate for the aircraft seating market during the forecast period. The growth of this region is attributed to the countries in this region upgrading their capabilities by undertaking developments in the field of aircraft seating, thus offering a significant opportunity for OEM manufacturers to expand their businesses.

The projected rise in GDP during the next 10 years in emerging economies such as China presents significant potential for the market. China, in recent times, has attracted significant foreign investments due to stable growth and robust developments in the economy. The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), Directorate General of Civil Aviation of India, and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) are among the region’s regulatory bodies that ensure adherence to safety rules and air travel regulations within their respective countries. The leading manufactures of aircraft seats in the Asia Pacific include JAMCO Corporation (Japan) and AirGo Design (Singapore), among others which cater to the Asian market.

Expedia survey reveals Americans reached their ‘tripping point’ less than 30 days into lockdown

SEATTLE, Oct. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Today, Expedia® reveals the latest phenomenon in pandemic travel behavior – the ‘tripping point.’ The tripping point is defined as the intense need for a break from the routine and the moment at which day-to-day responsibilities become too much and result in the desperate need for a change of scenery. For many adults, it would be an understatement to say the past six months or so have been a balancing act. Juggling new realities of work, school, household chores and errands can become monotonous, especially with little opportunity for a much-needed break. Through a survey of 1,000 adults aged 18-451, Expedia examines how reaching the tripping point impacted travelers during lockdown and continues to shape our future trips.

  • Expedia found that on average, Americans reached their tripping point just 27 days after the introduction of stay-at-home mandates, though a quarter (24%) reached that point in the first week
  • The top three ways travelers managed these feelings were through self-care (41%), spending more time outside (28%) and planning a big future trip (20%)
  • Nearly half (44%) of respondents are planning to travel between October and December

The «tripping point»: the latest phenomenon in pandemic travel behavior

Nearby escapes and future-trip-planning helped alleviate tripping point

For the 80 percent of respondents who reported reaching their tripping point the biggest factor was the need to get out of the house and find a change of scenery (46%). Behind that was a need for some alone-time or space from family or roommates (25%) and wanting to see friends or family in another location (25%).

As Americans sought to manage feelings of being cooped up, more than a quarter of respondents said they took a road trip or staycation (28%) or found relief by researching or dreaming of a future trip (20%). Expedia data from April supports this finding, with the top-searched destinations including warm-weather, relaxing vacations spots like Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii and the Maldives.2

Once restrictions eased up, survey results show it only took 20 days on average for travelers to book a trip away from home, proving the time spent researching and dreaming was well-spent.

Looking forward to the next trip

For many, travel disruptions and limitations have only strengthened the desire for a trip; survey data reveals that 44 percent of Americans are planning travel between October and December.

Results also shed light on where travelers are most likely to go when they’re ready to travel freely, whether it’s visiting out-of-town friends and family (27%), heading somewhere they’ve never been within the U.S. (24%) or rescheduling a trip they couldn’t take this year (20%).

Whether the ideal next trip is a beach vacation or solo adventure tends to vary and turns out it has a lot to do with who you spent lockdown living with. Expedia survey results found:

  • Individuals who moved back in with parents or grandparents or who lived alone during lockdown are most likely to desire a luxury, 5-star vacation with pampering and spa treatments
  • Parents and those living with roommates put family-friendly activities and accommodations at the top of their lists for their next trip
  • Couples without kids are most likely to want an all-inclusive resort experience when they travel next

Luckily, no matter the type of trip, accommodations or top priorities, Expedia has you covered whenever you’re ready to get away next.

With COVID-19, it’s important to stay safe and up to date on the latest travel guidance and restrictions. Find out what to expect, how to find flexible travel and other information on the Expedia COVID-19 travel guide.

SoCalGas & Longo Toyota Donate 1,008 Meals to Mark National Hydrogen Day and Bring Attention to Carbon-Free Fuel

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — In recognition of National Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Day and the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai, <a target="_blank"…

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — In recognition of National Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Day and the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai, Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) and Longo Toyota of El Monte are donating 1,008 meals to non-profit, Meals on Wheels (October 8th and the number 1,008 are used in connection with hydrogen because its atomic weight is 1.008). Toyota’s Mirai fuel cell electric vehicle is powered solely by hydrogen without combustion, and its only emission is water. SoCalGas, the largest gas distribution utility in North America, recognizes hydrogen and fuel cells to be a critical part of the future of clean energy in California.

«Longo Toyota is proud to partner with SoCalGas on National Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Day to bring awareness to hydrogen and fuel cell technology in the automotive space,» said Doug Eroh, President and General Manager of Longo Toyota.  «As one of the original authorized Mirai dealers in California, we have sold over 1,300 Mirai fuel cell vehicles in addition to over 35,000 hybrid electric vehicles over the past 20 years.  Longo Toyota is committed to promoting clean energy vehicles and educating the public on the importance of environmental sustainability.»

«As California works to transition to cleaner energy, SoCalGas knows the importance of hydrogen and fuel cells in developing the 21st century energy system, and innovations like hydrogen-powered cars are key. Vehicles like the Mirai are expected to play an important role as California seeks to meet the requirements of Governor Newsom’s executive order to require all new cars sold here to be zero-emissions by 2035,» said Yuri Freedman, SoCalGas senior director of business development. «SoCalGas is also furthering innovation and the development of carbon-free and carbon-negative gases like renewable natural gas and hydrogen, which demonstrates our commitment to helping California reach its climate goals affordably and reliably.»

For the past six years, the U.S. Congress has passed resolutions recognizing October 8 as Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, hydrogen and fuel cells can be used in multiple sectors such as transportation and stationary power enabling energy security and resiliency.

National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day was created by the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) to help raise awareness of fuel cell and hydrogen technologies. FCHEA recently launched a report titled, Road Map to a US Hydrogen Economy. The Road Map was developed with input from 20 major companies including Microsoft, Toyota, Air Liquide, Cummins, SoCalGas, and other Fortune 100 firms. It outlines how expanding the use of hydrogen would help solve a multitude of energy, environmental and health issues and makes the case that hydrogen will be required to dramatically decrease carbon fuels from U.S. energy supply, especially as energy demands increase.  Further, the Road Map explains the role of hydrogen in providing carbon-free electricity, long-term storage of renewable power, and clean distributed power to prevent power outages during natural disasters or grid cyberattacks.

Fuel cells are yet another technology which continues to scale in the energy industry, combining both hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity. SoCalGas recently announced it begun powering two of its largest Los Angeles-area facilities with Bloom Energy solid oxide fuel cells. The switch to fuel cells reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, air pollutants and the cost of power, as well as provides reliable electricity independent of the power grid.

SoCalGas’ vision is to be the cleanest gas utility in North America and support a 21st century energy system that provides clean, affordable, resilient and integrated energy. As part of its vision, the utility committed to replacing 20 percent of natural gas supplies to its core customers with renewable natural gas (RNG) by 2030. SoCalGas will also make use of hydrogen, fuel cells and other energy alternatives.

BARCELONA, Spain, Oct. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Wallbox, the leading energy management company that manufactures smart charging solutions for electric vehicles (EV), today announced Supernova, its first fast public charger that delivers 65 kW of charging power at half the cost of similar chargers. This marks Wallbox’s entry into the public charging segment, complementing its existing offerings for both residential and semi-public charging that are currently available in over 40 countries globally.

Supernova introduces unprecedented levels of efficiency and reliability into this market segment.  Supernova offers an optimized internal design to make it light and easy to install by integrating multiple,  modular elements from Wallbox’s award-winning bidirectional charger, Quasar. The product doesn’t compromise on aesthetics, with a modern, ergonomic layout synonymous with the Wallbox brand and its signature hallmarks of innovation and design.

The segment, currently valued at $11.7 billion, will grow exponentially in the next few years, driven by extensive investment globally to expand public charging networks. Europe is installing one million public charge points by 2025 and France alone is committing to 100,000 chargers next year, while Germany is aiming for one million chargers this decade. In the U.S., New York and California have announced plans to expand their investment in charging infrastructure, committing millions in funds. California has also announced its plan to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles in the state beginning in 2035.

Wallbox developed Supernova with the goal of overcoming the following challenges of public charging in cities:

Efficiency and reliability:

Supernova has nine systems that work in harmony to provide maximum power, yet maintain operational independence. This modular assembly offers unprecedented flexibility and reliability to ensure the charger continues to operate optimally regardless of the circumstances.

Product installation and maintenance costs:

Supernova reduces the costs associated with equivalent public charging solutions by approximately 50  percent. The optimized charger design ensures a more efficient product with lower production cost. Its modular composition offers installation and maintenance advantages by requiring simpler infrastructure and resources, such as eliminating the need for heavy machinery to transport the product.

«Ultimately, for EVs to completely replace internal combustion vehicles, we must eliminate any inconvenience associated with charging and offer people a perfect experience, be it at home or while taking a road trip. An extensive and efficient network of public chargers is essential for this. With a less expensive and more reliable charger like the Supernova, we can accelerate the virtuous cycle of creating this infrastructure which, in turn, will drive the adoption of EV,» said Enric Asunción, co-founder and CEO of Wallbox.

Iberdrola, which recently announced plans to invest €150 million in sustainable mobility to intensify the deployment of charge points, has identified a clear need for supporting electromobility through the coordinated and efficient action between its main stakeholders. «In our strategy to transition towards a carbon free economy, we continue to bet on electric transportation as a key lever to reduce emissions and pollution, as well as for a green recovery of the economy in the post-COVID world,» said Raquel Blanco, Global Director of Smart Mobility at Iberdrola, said.

Iberdrola has already signed over 40 agreements for deploying charging infrastructure.

«Through Perseo, the company invests in innovative startups with high technological potential, such as Wallbox, to drive the development of key technology for transportation electrification,» added Blanco.

Iberdrola expects around 150,000 charger points to be installed in homes and businesses, as well as urban roads and main highways across Spain in the next five years. The company plans to deploy a high efficiency charging network by installing ultra-fast stations with 350 kW of power for every 200 kilometers, super-fast with 150 kW for every 100 kilometers and fast charging stations with 50 kW or more of power for every 50 kilometers.

125 miles of range  in under 30 minutes:

«Supernova is our answer to the growing needs of EV users and the cities they live in. We have applied the same development concepts and fundamentals that we used to make Quasar,  the world’s lightest, smallest and most efficient bidirectional charger. The result is a charger that is exponentially more stable and efficient, easier to install and maintain,» said Eduard Castañeda,  co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Wallbox. Wallbox’s strategic move follows its acquisition of Electromaps, a leading platform for accessing networks of public charging points for EVs. As many as 95 percent of Spain’s EV users depend on Electromaps to locate and share information about public charging points and the company plans to roll out the platform to new markets in the coming months.

The EV driver at the center of everything:

«New technologies often disrupt our routines.  This change is only accelerated by providing sufficient incentives to overcome the barriers to adopt better solutions. Most consumers agree  that electric mobility is beneficial because of the lower environmental impact and improved driving experience,» said Bárbara Calixto, CMO of Wallbox. «However, concerns about charging infrastructure have been one of the main deterrents when considering an EV. Fortunately, countries with mature charging networks, such as Norway and  Sweden, provide a promising outlook of the future  – the development of charging infrastructure and adoption of EV in parallel. As the former becomes larger, it accelerates the later. In turn, more EV  will make public charging more attractive and economically viable,» Calixto added.

Next steps
Supernova is designed to offer an affordable and scalable solution that can be installed anywhere within cities and also serve the growing EV fleet segment. This is expected to lead to more opportunities for charging at more places and to greater access for EVs.

Wallbox is developing even more powerful chargers in the future such as a 150 kW charger for intercity day trips and a 250 kW product for longer distances.

Production of Supernova is expected to start in the second quarter of 2021 and distribution will first start in Europe followed by North America and other countries.

CHICAGO, Ill. and KOCHI, India, Oct. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Cordiant Technologies today announced the general availability of Cord.travel Automated Conversational Experiences platform (ACE), purpose-built to serve hotel properties post-covid.

Travelers in the post-covid world have to be more than reassured that the hotel they choose for their next stay is indeed the right place when it comes to safety and sanitization.

When a hotel deploys Cord.travel ACE, guests researching a property can message the hotel from their Google hotel searches, from messaging apps like FB Messenger and WhatsApp and through SMS/Text and get instant responses for their questions and requests through AI automation.

Granular information about the property, the rooms, the facilities and the neighborhood which the guests find impossible or difficult to find on OTA and metasearch engines or on the hotel booking site will now be available to the guests on demand. Guests can communicate seamlessly with the hotel from Pre-Booking thru In-Stay and thereafter without making frustrating phone calls or sending emails.

With automation in place, hotel chains can optimize their contact centers while maintaining a far higher level of guest satisfaction at the properties. The solution enables intelligent Live Agent handover with all conversations available on a consolidated Agent Console that supports 100+ global and local languages. The console is available for anytime, anyplace access on phones as well.

Cord.travel ACE opens up completely new revenue channels and drives more direct bookings for the properties using Google Search, social messaging and AI. Guests can visually experience the rooms, the facilities and the views and proceed to ‘Book Direct’ with a single tap.

And when guests message the property, Cord.travel ACE uses machine learning and AI to recognize their intent to book a room and triggers automated offers designed to entice them toward booking their next stay directly with the hotel.

«Messaging apps bring a completely new perspective to Guest Experience. There’s no new app to download, there’s zero learning curve and the experience is sort of permanent rather than ephemeral. Guests can always go back to the conversation they had, say last week and proceed from there», said Dennis Paul, Founder and CEO of CordIant Technologies.

«And when a guest with an intent to book can message a hotel straight from their Google hotel Search and get instant responses, it opens up a completely new dimension to the booking outcome, to the advantage of individual properties and the chains», he added.

Cord.travel ACE is available through a SaaS subscription of $199 per month and through technology licensing models for larger hotel chains. For more information, please visit https://www.cord.travel
