ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — New Jersey sportsbooks took in more than $950 million in wagers and a record $82.6 million in revenue in January while the state’s online casinos crossed $100 million in revenue, becoming the first legal gaming jurisdiction in U.S. history to cross that threshold in a single month. The Garden State’s opening salvo to 2021 sets the stage for a year in which the state could reach $10 billion in sports wagers and more than $1 billion in online casino revenue, according to analysts from PlayNJ.

«New Jersey’s online casinos and sportsbooks have defied conventional wisdom from the beginning, and are hitting milestones that many thought would take years longer to reach,» said Dustin Gouker, lead analyst for PlayNJ.com. «The rapid maturation of the online products in New Jersey has made the state the new standard bearer for the modern U.S. gaming industry.»

New Jersey’s sportsbooks fell short of breaking the all-jurisdiction handle record for the sixth consecutive month by collecting $958.7 million in wagers in January, according to official data released Wednesday. That is up 77.5% from $540.1 million in January 2020.

Operator revenue rose to $82.6 million in January, up 29% from $53.6 million in January 2020 and topping December’s record-breaking $66.4 million. And with $10.4 million in state taxes in January, sportsbooks have now generated $107.3 million for the state since launching in June 2018.

For 2021, the state could reach nearly $10 billion in sports bets, more than $600 million in revenue, and $75 million in state and local taxes, according to PlayNJ projections.

«2020 was an unusual year, obviously, so year-over-year growth is a good bet so long as the sports schedule remains intact,» said Eric Ramsey, analyst for PlayNJ.com. «Considering the current momentum of New Jersey’s market, the year could really bring some eye-popping results, especially if the retail market can return to health.»

Online betting generated 92.5% of the state’s January handle. FanDuel Sportsbook/PointsBet was again the market leader with $41.8 million in gross revenue, up from $29 million in December.

Retail sportsbooks began to rebound with $72.1 million in bets, up from $67 million in December.

Basketball drew $320.3 million, topping sports categorized as «other,» which includes NHL betting, which hit $214.4 million. Football was third with $201.8 million.

«With the NHL back in action and the NBA with a full schedule, January’s sports schedule was more or less normal for the first time since February 2020,» Gouker said. «That gives us a reliable barometer for where New Jersey is as a sports betting market.»

Online casinos and poker

New Jersey’s online casinos hit $100 million in combined casino games and poker revenue for the first time. In all, online gaming and poker generated $103.8 million in January, up 88.4% from $55.1 million in January 2020 and topping the previous record of $99.5 million set in December. January’s win yielded $15.5 million in state taxes.

«Online casino games continue to show no signs of letting up,» Ramsey said. «Obviously with pandemic-related restrictions in place on Atlantic City casinos, online casinos were in position to pick up some slack. But the online gains made over the last year should withstand the reopening of retail casinos, continuing to buoy the entire gaming industry.»

Pennsylvania’s Sportsbooks and Online Casinos Rewrite Record Books in January, According to PlayPennsylvania

LAS VEGAS, Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Pennsylvania’s sportsbooks and online casinos extended their momentum in January, opening 2021 with more than $600 million in monthly sports wagers for the first time while setting a fresh record for online casino revenue. With the hot start, Pennsylvania’s sportsbooks are on the path to bring nearly $6 billion in sports wagers in 2021 with the state’s online casinos capable of reaching more than $800 million in taxable revenue, according to projections from PlayPennsylvania.

«A return to relatively normal — with a healthy retail market and a dependable sports schedule — would be enough to fuel growth in Pennsylvania’s gaming industry,» said Dustin Gouker, lead analyst for PlayPennsylvania.com. «There are a lot of positive signs right now as sportsbooks and online casinos continue to gain steam, and hopefully, the state’s brick-and-mortar casinos begin to regain their footing. If things do return to normal, the gaming industry should see significant gains across the board in 2021.»

Pennsylvania’s online and retail sportsbooks took yet another leap forward in January with $615.3 million in bets in January, according to official data released Wednesday. That was up 76.6% from $348.4 million in January 2020 and topped the record $548.6 million in wagers set in December.

Those bets produced $34 million in taxable revenue, up 49.1% from $22.8 million in January 2020. That yielded $11.5 million in state taxes and $679,408 in local share assessments. Since launching in November 2018, Pennsylvania sportsbooks have generated $111.7 million in taxes.

«Pennsylvania’s tax structure did slow down the early progress of the industry, but the high tax rate no longer appears to be much of an impediment,» said Valerie Cross, analyst for PlayPennsylvania.com. «Operators have flocked to the state and produced millions in revenue. In that way, regulators achieved their goal of creating a reliable revenue producer for the state, and that could attract attention from other states as they work to set up legal sports betting.»

Online betting produced 94.3% of January’s handle. FanDuel Sportsbook/Valley Forge Casino topped the market again with $220.7 million in online bets, up from $207.6 million in December.

Retail sportsbooks, which reopened on Jan. 4, bounced back from a rough December with a $35.4 million handle, winning $4 million.

«Casino closures have certainly spurred online casinos and online sportsbook betting, which will provide some long-term benefits for the industry,» Gouker said. «But for the state’s gaming industry to truly be healthy, it needs to see a full recovery with retail betting. If the pandemic continues to recede, that return to health could happen by the second half of 2021.»

Online casinos and poker

Online casinos and poker rooms continued their momentum with a record $80.4 million in January revenue, up from $71.6 million in December.

Online casinos took in $2.6 million per day over the month’s 31 days, up from $2.3 million per day over the 31 days in December. That revenue generated $17.3 million in state taxes and another $10.2 million in local share assessments and county grants.

«With retail casinos closed, December’s record could have been an outlier,» Cross said. «But January’s results prove that the gains made last month are more than resilient. Such a strong start to the year could mean a year with more than $800 million in online casino revenue, which would be huge for the state.»

City of Plano Solar Farm «Energized» and Fully Operational

PLANO, Ill., Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Today City of Plano officials announced that its 1.1 MW Solar Farm, which was fully «Energized» in late 2019, is performing as expected.  The ground and roof mounted Solar system will generate over 1.2 million kilowatt hours (kWh) per year and provide power to the Water Treatment Plant. «The City of Plano and their consultant Progressive Business Solutions reviewed several potential locations and ultimately decided…

«The City of Plano and their consultant Progressive Business Solutions reviewed several potential locations and ultimately decided the best fit was to use vacant land next to the current water treatment plant.  The solar field has helped the City save money, reduce our dependence on traditional fossil fuels and provides a good example of how the City of Plano continues to be environmental stewards for today and the future,» said Robert Hausler, Mayor, City of Plano.

Project Funding and Development
Funds were made available in 2019 and 2020 from the Adjustable Block Program under the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA), passed in December of 2016.  Area residents, businesses, governmental organizations and non-profits all pay into a renewable energy fund, which is collected on each customer’s monthly ComEd bill. The available funds were highly competitive in that less than 30% of the applications submitted received approval.  «We are pleased to have delivered on our commitment to develop projects that provide environmentally friendly low-cost power for the City of Plano,» said Chris Childress, Development Director Progressive Business Solutions.  Plano’s Solar Farm joins Kendall County, Fox Metro Water Reclamation, and Mooseheart Child City as the largest «behind the meter» solar development in Chicagoland’s Fox Valley Area.  The Solar Field was built, owned and operated by WCP Solar of Naperville, IL who was the successful low bidder.  «This development will generate over 1.2 million kWh per year and 30 million kWh over the term of the project.  For reference, the average home consumes around 10,000 kWh per year,» Said Dr. Everton Walters, President of WCP Solar. «We appreciate being selected by the City of Plano and are pleased to get this project online and energized.»

«No new taxpayer dollars were used to build the Solar Fields,» said Arnie Schramel, Managing Partner Progressive Business Solutions.  «We helped originate, competitively bid the solar field construction, and found the financial resources to fund the project.  The City of Plano will receive approximate 65% of its power from the field to run the Water Treatment Facility at a cost, substantially below market for a period of 25 years,» per Mr. Schramel.

Carbon Emissions Reduction
Cost reduction is not the only benefit for the Community.  By generating over 30 million kWh during the project, it will reduce Carbon Emissions by over 8,484 metric tons.  According to the EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalency Calculator, that is equivalent to eliminating over 9,135 passenger cars or eliminating 23 million gallons of gasoline.

CITY OF PLANO SOLAR FIELD

Frequently Asked Questions?

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING NOW IN ILLINOIS?

With the passage of the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA) of 2016 Solar became a financially viable option for Illinois consumers. With the passage of the FEJA a fund was established to create Renewable Energy Credits (REC’s) that would be given to Solar Companies to help offset the cost of building the solar fields. Illinois has a renewable energy goal of 25 percent of all electricity by 2026 and Behind the Meter Solar projects such as this one, will help meet this goal.

WHO FUNDED THE FUTURE ENERGY JOBS ACT?

All residents, business, governmental organizations and non-profits pay into a renewable energy fund which is collected on customer’s ComEd and Ameren bill.  By being selected the City of Plano was able to recapture some of the money collected and put it to work for the taxpayer reducing the County’s electric cost.

WAS THIS PROJECT COMPETATIVELY BID?

This project was competitively bid to ensure that the lowest qualified bidder was chosen.  WCP Solar was chosen from more than 10 solar companies who inquired or presented a bid and participated in the site visit.

HOW DID THE PROJECT CREATE LOCAL JOBS?

Progressive Business Solutions regularly works with local businesses to develop and construct solar facilities.  This solar field was designed, constructed, and financed by WCP Solar an Illinois Company located in Naperville.  Illinois companies provided services including but not limited to development, engineering, construction, and site preparation.  The solar industry included over 250,000 workers in 2019.  Since the first Solar Jobs Census was published, American solar jobs have increased 167% since 2010.

IS THERE A DANGER FOR THE LOCAL COMMUNITY?

No, A security fence surrounds the solar energy facility in accordance with the City of Plano’s applicable electrical and building codes.

WILL ENDANGERED SPECIES BE IMPACTED?

No, Prior to project construction, a development team screened the site for potential impacts to federal and state listed species, including a comprehensive tree study.

DOES THE SOLAR PROJECT PRODUCE LIGHT OR GLARE?

Only a security light for property access. The solar project itself does not produce any light. It actually absorbs light to create energy. As a result, solar panel are designed to minimize glare.

WILL THE SOLAR PROJECT PRODUCE ANY NOISE?

Electrical inverters which convert power from direct current (DC) to AC and associated electrical equipment can generate noise at a solar energy site. The low hum of the electrical equipment is not generally heard at distances greater than 100 feet from the electrical equipment. Noise can also be generated during periodic mowing and trimming of the facility during operation.

WHAT OTHER COMMUNITIES ARE DOING THIS?

The City of Plano, Kendall County, Fox Metro Water Reclamation District, all Kendall County Municipalities were selected to participate in this program.  Additionally, Mooseheart Child City in Kane County was selected. Together these solar fields represent Chicagoland’s Largest Solar Development located in the Fox Valley.  All four fields and are operating as expected.  Together these solar fields will generate $14.5 million dollars in lower electric costs and generate over 255 Million kWh of environmentally friendly energy.  100% of the solar projects developed by Progressive Business Solutions received funding and are «Energized» and fully operational.

IS IT TO LATE TO PARTICIPATE?

Although the initial round of funding is closed.  Progressive Business Solutions is currently working with area Municipal and Business leaders to ensure that they are included in the next round of funding which is expected to be in Mid 2021 or 2022.  The State Legislature is currently considering how to repopulate the FEJA fund.  It is important to get your project application submitted to ensure you are on a waitlist when the new funding is approved.  If you wait until the rules/funding becomes available you are likely to be too late as the waitlist candidates have been made a priority in the past.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Hyatt House Tallahassee Capitol – University and Olympia Hotel Management (OHM) proudly announced today the hotel’s opening in the Florida state capital.

The five-story, 80,000 square foot property is comprised of 120 guestrooms, including 77 with full kitchens, a large patio with outdoor bar service, an outdoor pool, a fitness room, and an 846-square-foot meeting space. 6,000 square feet of retail space is situated adjacent to the modern extended-stay hotel. Developed by Mountain Shore Properties (MSP), a Charleston, South Carolina-based developer, and managed by OHM, Hyatt House Tallahassee Capitol – University is located in the city’s Railroad Square Art District.

«We think the demand for travel in the back half of 2021 is going to be extremely strong,» said CEO Stephen Wendell of MSP. «The underlying demand generators pre-Covid 19 still exist and show no signs of stopping. The fact is that some aspects of business travel can’t be done virtually. It is my belief and hope that we are going to be in a far different world come summer.»

MSP selected the city of Tallahassee for the new hotel because it offers a unique and dynamic mix of government, university and business interests. It is home to the Florida Legislature as well as Florida A & M University and Florida State University. At its heart is the Railroad Square Art District, a unique area within the city known for fostering art, culture, and creative small businesses. The eight acres of brightly painted historic industrial warehouses have been gradually transformed over the past four decades, beginning in the late 70’s, by artistic visionary Nan Boynton, and continued under the ownership of Adam Boynton Kaye and Lily Boynton Kaye since 2002. The former lumber mill/industrial park has morphed into the workshops of artists and craftsmen and is now a hub of creative entrepreneurship.

«Mountain Shore Properties demonstrated a lot of wisdom and thoughtfulness by really going above and beyond to seamlessly integrate their hotel into the existing fabric of the art district,» said Adam Boynton Kaye, CFO and Co-Owner, Railroad Square. «Hyatt House Tallahassee Capitol – University serves as a role model on perfecting the combination of commerce, creativity, and community.»

MSP already has a successful track record in the Florida city, having developed and opened the Hampton Inn & Suites Tallahassee Capitol – University in 2018, which OHM also manages.

«Extended-stay properties have been strong during Covid-19,» said OHM’s Chief Growth Officer John Schultzel. «The occupancy numbers at our nearby Hampton property have been solid and Tallahassee is a unique destination. There is government demand, two universities with students who really want to be back on campus now, as well as a great downtown anchored by Railroad Square. It was important to open this new property in the first quarter with an eye to securing bookings for the third quarter and beyond.»

For more information or to book a stay, please visit the hotel’s website.

LONDON and GUADALAJARA, Mexico, Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — With ambitions to create the ‘best airport in Mexico‘ at its home base in Guadalajara, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP) plans to invest 10 billion Pesos (US$504m* see note) before 2026 in the development of Guadalajara Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport.  The plan includes an…

The plan includes an additional runway and new terminal building as well as, in the short/mid-term, a radical new 6 billion Pesos (US$302m* see note) redesign of the commercial space in the existing building.  The Design Solution has been appointed to deliver the redesign with the new space due to open on a phased basis over the next 2 years before being fully open in 2023.

The current terminal has benefited from numerous expansion projects since its opening in 1966 and today is a collection of airside zones, complex circulation patterns and architectural styles.  The objective of the terminal redesign is to rationalise passenger flows, creating a series of engaging touchpoints along the passenger journey, from security to gate, with a visionary design that unifies the entire experience.  The Design Solution has worked alongside the project’s commercial consultants, Pragma Consulting, in fulfilling the approved proposal.

The new plan optimises previously under-utilized space, creating a new vibrancy to the passenger experience with a significantly enlarged commercial zone.   The two security areas are retained and passengers are now drawn towards the airside heart of the terminal, a newly revitalised area overlooking the apron, surrounded by a dynamic mix of retail, bars, restaurants, pop-up sites and other customer service facilities.

«Our first task was to rationalise the passenger flows through the terminal to create an intuitive route in the airside commercial area.  With this approach, passengers have much more direct engagement with the greater exposure given to stores, restaurants, bars, pop-ups and seasonal event experiences» explains Graeme Johns, Director of the Design Solution. «It is always a challenge to transform older terminals that have evolved through piecemeal development, especially those that were predominantly assembled before commercial revenues became so important.  These new designs will create a world class facility and passenger experience fitting for GAP’s ambitions to transform Guadalajara International Airport and to maximise its commercial potential.»

«Mexico is so rich in history, culture, craft and unique landscapes and so finding a special feature to tie the designs together was not difficult.  Guadalajara is the heart of the Tequila and we were inspired by the shape of the harvested Agave plant used in the production of this iconic spirt, which is also one of the fastest growing categories in travel retail.  Its unique form is evident throughout the decoration of the terminal, such as the decorative lighting grilles featured in the main walkways and in the food & beverage area.»

Raul Revuelta, Chief Executive Officer, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico adds. «We first worked with The Design Solution at Sangster Montego Bay Airport in Jamaica, one of our other operated airports.  Shortly after, we appointed them to work at Los Cabos airport in Mexico and now on to Guadalajara.  We have worked together as a team over many months to create something we believe will transform the terminal, both in terms of bringing passengers the best travel experience as well as growing our commercial offer. In the core airside commercial area, we currently have 5,700 sq m and that will increase to 7,250 sq m.  The pandemic inevitably means the implementation of our ambitious plans will likely take longer than originally hoped but we look forward to a phased approach to achieving this vision.»

A key area of the redesign is centred on a flat roof canopy, located outside the centre of the terminal building, over an expanded baggage area.  The proposal is to transform this into a signature feature of the terminal, with an external garden terrace, surrounding an Agave-inspired architectural shade pod, offering casual seating, planting and a unique eating and drinking destination.  The ambience of this garden has also inspired the character of the indoor food & beverage zone and is further reflected in the outside feel that is brought inside to the gate seating areas. Heavily planted areas include trees to complement the minimalistic concrete benches with low level under-lighting, combining to create a light, contemporary and natural landscape look and feel. The exterior aesthetic is further enhanced with the application of resin-bound aggregate floor finishes and warm natural materials.

A large rotunda space is introduced directly after the wall-through duty free store, enabling passengers to pause, orientate themselves, check flight information and then plan how to spend their time before heading to the gate.  A large aura formation of pendant lights, made from Peltra, a Mexican porcelain enamel, designed by local contemporary design agency Bandido Studio in Puebla, is suspended within the space, creating a striking statement with a strongly local sense of place.

Beside agave cultivation, Tequila and Mezcal production, Guadalajara is home to Mexico’s thriving software industry, known worldwide as Mexico’s Silicon Valley.  The airport is the country’s third largest airport, handling almost 15m passengers in 2019.  The new development will increase capacity to 30m passengers per year, an increase of 60% more flights.  Pre-pandemic passenger growth was double-digit and the airport anticipates a return to growth in due course. Latin American Micromobility Market Forecast to 2025 – Future Growth Potential and Revenue Streams to be Driven by Impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Mobility Patterns, & New Technologies

DUBLIN, Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The «Challenges and…

DUBLIN, Feb. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The «Challenges and Opportunities in the Latin American Micromobility Market, Forecast to 2025» report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com’s offering.

Research and Markets Logo

By 2025, market revenue is expected to grow at 6.6% CAGR for the bikesharing market with in excess of 127 thousand units in operation, and at 25.4% CAGR for the shared scooter market that is expected to have more than 100 thousand units in operation.

The globally ongoing revolution in mobility technology and business model innovations will disrupt urban ecosystems, changing the way people, goods, and information are transported and localized within cities.

In recent years, shared micromobility services, such as dockless scooters and bikesharing systems, have become increasingly popular across Latin American cities. Both local governments and private operators have been driving this market through various innovative business models and technological solutions adapted to the specific complexities of Latin American urban dynamics. The first bike-sharing systems were introduced in Latin America early in 2010, in Mexico City and Buenos Aires. However, those beta test systems were relatively rudimentary in terms of technology as well as operative efficiency.

As years passed, more and more public systems were inaugurated across the region, and notable participants (operators, technology suppliers, or both together) positioned themselves in the fast growing shared micromobility market. The implementation of policies to incentivize active mobility has intrinsic objectives of diminishing private car usership, mitigating the negative effects of greenhouse gas emissions, promoting healthier lifestyles, and a general compact and highly efficient and resilient urban design.

Many cities such as Santiago or Mexico City have made enormous progress in developing a mature and competitive micromobility service ecosystem. In late 2019, there were more than 59.5 thousand bikesharing units in operation in Latin American cities, operated by more than 30 companies. Moreover, there were 11 recently introduced shared scooter operators available in dozens of cities, with an estimated fleet in excess of 36.5 active devices.

This research service examines the challenges and opportunities in the operation of shared micromobility services in the region. Many companies across the region have been facing substantial restraints for the development of their activities. Some of these are: the overall vulnerability of some business models, lack of profitability, stringent and inefficient municipal regulations, vandalism and theft impacting asset safety, and the devastating short-term impacts of COVID-19 lockdown measures in early 2020.

There was a 31.6% fall in revenue from the bikesharing market and a 74.9% decline in shared scooter service market revenue, with many operators leaving the market. However, in the mid term, this research service has identified considerable growth opportunities for the overall shared micromobility market in LATAM, driven by market innovations, changes in mobility habits and transport modal choice behavior, and the vacant demand left after the 2020 COVID-19 crisis.
