Mandatory form for international travel launched to prevent illegal trips

LONDON, 05 March 2021 /PRNewswire Policy/ —

From 8 March 2021, passengers travelling abroad will need to carry a new form stating that their trip is permitted under national lockdown rules.

Passengers travelling internationally from Monday 8 March 2021 will need to carry a new form that sets out their trip is permitted under the stay at home restrictions.

The simple form must be downloaded, signed before travel, and carried or downloaded onto a mobile phone.

Carriers will be checking the forms have been completed before boarding, either at check-in (online or at the check-in desk) or the departure gate. Passengers who do not have a valid form may be denied access to their booked service. Carriers will also be legally obliged to set out on their website that the form must be completed before travelling.

Police have been stepping up their presence at ports and airports in recent weeks. Officers will be conducting spot checks and have the power to ask travellers to produce a completed form. It will be an offence to fail to produce a completed form and individuals could face a 200 pounds fine.

Stay-at-home rules are still in place, which means it is illegal to travel abroad without a permitted reason, such as for education or work.

The police will undertake spot checks at UK ports across the country to ensure passengers are complying with domestic lockdown rules. Passengers who are identified by police as attempting to travel internationally for reasons that are not currently permitted will be asked to return home and risk receiving a fixed penalty notice for breaking stay-at-home rules. These fines start at 200 pounds and ladder up to a maximum of 6,400 pounds.

The Home Office announced an additional 60 million pounds for police in February – including 2 million pounds to cover the costs of extra activity by police at airports and ports – which brought the total amount of funding available to forces since the start of the pandemic to nearly 200 million pounds.

The government has already put in place a range of tough measures to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission at the border, including the:

– introduction of pre-departure testing for all international arrivals

– requirement for those travelling back to the UK from a ‘red list’ country to self-isolate in a government-approved facility for a period of 10 days while there is a heightened risk of transmission from these areas

All international arrivals must also take a COVID-19 test on both day 2 and day 8 of their self-isolation period – with genome sequencing included within the cost of the testing bundle.

All measures will be kept under review and further action may be taken to protect the public.

All the information is stored permanently in the Rapid Recon vehicle record.

New-Car Workflow details are accessible in real-time from almost anywhere, giving your sales personnel real-time vehicle progress updates. This New-Car Workflow is a perfect tool for your BDC.

Wine enthusiasts and fans of Argentine wines will be able to attend a variety of events, including a livestream presentation of Argentina’s finest wines on March 6, 2021. Argentina’s Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia was ranked one of the world’s top 10 harvest festivals by National Geographic.

Argentina’s annual National Wine Harvest Festival (Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia) to be held virtually this year.

Argentina is the world’s fifth largest wine producer and Mendoza, one of the Great Wine Capitals, is Argentina’s largest wine producing province, accounting for over 70% of the country’s total wine production. Some of Mendoza’s top wine labels are highly acclaimed around the world and are true ambassadors for the quality and distinction of Argentine wines.

Mendoza is located in western Argentina at the foothills of the Andes and is only an hour and a half flight from Buenos Aires. Known as the land of sun and wine, it enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year and is home to the highest mountain peak in the Americas, the Aconcagua.

Mendoza’s wine route allows wine enthusiasts to visit the region’s 1,200+ wineries – from boutique wineries specializing in small artisanal productions, to some of Argentina’s largest and best-known wineries – as well as museums, tasting rooms, manor houses and estancias. Some wineries also offer boutique accommodations, memorable culinary and wine-pairing experiences, and vineyard tours on horseback.

Argentina is world famous for its Malbec, but Mendoza also produces a wide range of other varietals of red and white wines including Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah in reds as well as Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Torrontés for white wines.

Stringent health and safety protocols have been implemented throughout Mendoza to ensure the well-being of all future visitors upon the destination’s re-opening. Argentina has also recently received the Safe Travels stamp by the World Travel & Tourism Commission (WTTC) for having fully implemented standardized global health and hygiene protocols.

Iowa Sportsbooks Set Per-Day Betting Record to Post $144 Million Handle in February, According to PlayIA

LAS VEGAS, March 5, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Iowa sportsbooks took in nearly $144 million in bets in February and took in more bets per day than in the state’s history, even as the state’s month-over-month handle fell from January’s surge. LAS VEGAS, March 5, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Iowa sportsbooks took in nearly $144 million in bets in February and took in more bets per day than in the state’s history, even as the state’s month-over-month handle fell from January’s surge. The bottom line is that the Hawkeye State’s sportsbooks continue to reap significant benefits of no in-person registration requirements, according to analysts for PlayIA, which tracks regulated online and retail gaming in the state.

«Iowa remains perhaps the most compelling case study yet on the effects of in-person registration requirements,» said Jessica Welman, an analyst for PlayIA.com. «February is a short month with only one NFL game to bet on, the Super Bowl, so the relatively flat month-over-month results can be misleading on the surface. But another strong showing still places Iowa in a class of states that are either larger or have far more mature gaming markets. And that would not be possible under the old requirements.»

Online and retail sportsbooks generated $143.6 million in wagers in February, according to official data released Friday. That is down 3.9% from the record $149.5 million handle in January. But betting per day in the 28 days of the month was a record $5.1 million, which was up from the $4.8 million per day bet in the 31 days of January.

February’s handle pushed Iowa’s lifetime handle to $1.1 billion, surpassing an eye-catching milestone.

The biggest reason for the two-month surge is the removal of in-person registration requirements in January. In fact, FanDuel reported new customer registrations multiplied by nearly a factor of seven from December to January, a direct result of the easing of registration requirements.

Net receipts for sportsbooks did fall 32% month over month, to $7.7 million in February from $11.3 million in January. The month’s revenue still yielded $520,444 in state taxes.

The Super Bowl brought in $16.2 million in wagers, most of which came in February. Bookmakers also benefited from robust interest in men’s college basketball, particularly No. 5 Iowa and Drake, which sits just outside the Top 25.

«When local teams enjoy strong seasons, as both Iowa and Drake are, interest in betting on their games goes up. We see that in every regulated sports betting market in the U.S.,» said Dustin Gouker, analyst for PlayIA.com. «With March Madness on the horizon, more growth almost certainly lies ahead. And sportsbooks should get an even bigger boost if Iowa or Drake can manage a prolonged run in the NCAA Tournament.»

For the month, online sports betting accounted for $143.6 million, or 87.2%, of the state’s overall handle. Iowa’s first online operator in August 2019, William Hill and its multiple license partners, retook the online market lead with $45.2 million in online wagers in February. The Wild Rose license, which is anchored by DraftKings but includes BetRivers, took in $38.9 million in online wagers and $1.5 million net receipts.

Retail betting generated $18.4 million, down from $28.8 million. Ameristar topped retailers with $4.5 million in wagers.

«William Hill is still proving that early entry into a market is critically important,» Welman said. «But DraftKings and FanDuel are investing heavily in Iowa, and with their brand recognition, they are seeing a rapid return on that investment. We’ll see how long William Hill is able to hold them off.»

Employment Growth Expected to Gradually Improve Over the Coming Months

NEW YORK, March 5, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Nonfarm employment increased by 379,000 in February, after an upwardly revised increase of 166,000 in January. The published unemployment rate dropped from 6.3 to 6.2 percent, and the true rate, after adjusting for the misclassification error, decreased from 6.9 percent to 6.7 percent in February. The labor force participation rate remained unchanged at 61.4 percent.

Most job gains were in the services sector, primarily driven by an increase of 355,000 jobs in leisure and hospitality of which 286,000 came from the food services industry as restrictions were eased somewhat in some parts of the country. The number of jobs in the goods producing sector decreased because of job losses in construction related to inclement weather in February.

Looking ahead, The Conference Board expects gradual improvement in the labor market over the coming months. The number of infections has significantly decreased since early January, more people are being vaccinated, and states have lowered or are expected to lower restrictions on consumer and business activity. Fewer restrictions may boost employment growth, especially in in-person services. By late spring, job growth is expected to accelerate, partly driven by anticipated further government stimulus that will boost consumption spending and could help create or preserve jobs through the PPP program and aid to state and local government. Between now and the end of the year, around 4.5 million jobs could be added to the economy.

The prospect of stronger employment growth and the unemployment rate, which could drop below 5 percent in the second half of 2021, provide an upbeat outlook for the labor market in 2021. However, on the downside, the number of jobs is 9.5 million below a year ago, with the small majority being women, and it is still a long way to make up for that loss. Especially those working in in-person services–primarily people without a college degree as well as Hispanic and Black workers–have had more difficulty returning to work. In addition, the labor force participation rate of 61.4 percent in February remains below its rate of 63.3 percent from a year ago and has not shown any sign of improvement just yet. A return to normalcy and strong economic growth could pull people back into the labor market over the coming months, but it is not yet clear if this will lead to a full recovery in participation.
