The Center for Reproductive Rights and the Colectiva Feminista will discuss the details of the case Manuela v. The case will determine El Salvador’s responsibility for imprisoning women who suffer pregnancy complications.

The Court’s decision will also have regional effects as the human rights conceded in the ruling will generate jurisprudence that will become part of the Inter-American Human Rights System, which is recognized by most countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

About the case:

According to the lawsuit, the facts are as follows: Manuela was a Salvadoran woman of limited resources, living in a rural area and unable to read or write. One day in 2008, she felt an urgent need to use the bathroom because she began to feel severe pelvic and abdominal pain, so she headed to the outhouse a few feet from her house. She did not know that at that moment she was having an obstetric emergency: she expelled a fetus and fainted–it was a precipitous delivery because of her precarious health.

She arrived at the hospital but instead of treating her serious condition, the medical staff denounced her for the alleged crime of abortion, as they believed that Manuela was hiding an alleged «infidelity». The police shackled her to the stretcher and interrogated her without the presence of a lawyer.

Manuela was wrongly convicted to 30 years in prison for the alleged crime of aggravated homicide. She died in prison in 2010, deprived of her liberty and leaving two children orphaned, because the State failed to provide her with proper diagnosis and treatment for a lymphatic cancer that developed, and which was the reason for the health problems that caused her obstetric emergency.

The litigation process began in 2012 when the Center and the Colectiva presented the case before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. In October 2019, the Commission decided to present the case before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights considering that the Salvadoran State had violated several of Manuela’s human rights, including the right to life, health, to judicial protections and guarantees, to be free from discrimination and gender-based violence.

FORT MYERS, Fla., March 4, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Gecko Hospitality, North America’s premiere recruiting firm that connects top talent and companies within the hospitality and restaurant industries, released its fifth annual Hospitality Management Salary Survey Report for 2019-2020.

«This past year was like no other,» said Robert Krzak, President, Gecko Hospitality. «Both the hospitality and restaurant industries were affected as ‘COVID-19 layoff’ became one of the biggest reasons many qualified candidates were looking to make a change.»

In 2020, «unemployed» and «business closed/downsized» were the top reasons given by candidates who were looking for new roles, versus «better opportunity» and «improve quality of life» in 2019.

In total, more than 2,500 restaurant and hospitality management professionals — 1,769 men and 822 women — throughout the United States and Canada participated in the survey between January 2019 and December 2020.

Participants span the hospitality segment: quick service (QSR), fast and upscale casual, family and upscale dining, hotels, resorts, and vacation destinations. Participants also came from growing hospitality segments including private clubs, senior living facilities, and casinos.

Survey results include key industry insights on gender, geographic location, turnover, and salary bonuses and increases.

Key findings include:

  • Average starting salaries for men in key hospitality positions, including Executive Chef, Executive Housekeeper, Hotel General Manager, Director of Operations, and Director of Finance, are higher than that of women in the same role. Women edged out their male counterparts for average starting salaries in some roles including Director of Food & Beverage, Director of Sales, and District Manager.
  • When accepting a management position with a new company, twenty-six percent of women received a salary increase compared to twenty-two percent of men.
  • Of those who received bonuses, men averaged $9,521 (sixteen percent of salary) compared to women, who averaged $6,580 (twelve percent of salary).
  • Twenty-nine percent of women cited unemployment as the reason for leaving their employer versus only eleven percent of men.
  • Participants, both women and men, averaged 2.4 jobs in the past 5 years.

«We’re already seeing an uptick in hiring, and we’re optimistic for the year ahead,» said Krzak. «Resume gaps that could cause concern in prior years are commonplace for 2020. Our clients are ready to hire qualified, talented professionals.»

Local FASTSIGNS Wins Highest Honor in FASTSIGNS Network

WASHINGTON, March 4, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Dana and Howard James, franchisees at FASTSIGNS® of Washington, DC received national recognition as the recipients of The FASTSIGNS® Award at the 2021 Virtual FASTSIGNS/Signwave International Convention.

<a href="https://mma.prnewswire.com/media/1449928/FASTSIGNS_Award_DC.html"…

WASHINGTON, March 4, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Dana and Howard James, franchisees at FASTSIGNS® of Washington, DC received national recognition as the recipients of The FASTSIGNS® Award at the 2021 Virtual FASTSIGNS/Signwave International Convention.

This award is the most prestigious recognition in the franchise network of over 750 locations in nine countries worldwide. It is presented to the franchisees who best represent the FASTSIGNS brand in their community and in the network, as they provide exceptional customer service, mentorship, company culture and employee development.

«We are honored to be named the recipients of the FASTSIGNS Award. It’s a wonderful thing to be acknowledged by your peers as someone in the community that contributes to the system as a whole and is appreciated,» said Howard James. «I enjoy giving and sharing and find that the benefits almost always come back to us. We are so thankful to be a part of the supportive FASTSIGNS network and see the growth that comes from investing in an incredible brand like FASTSIGNS.»

Howard James’ story led him to purchase a FASTSIGNS center with his wife, Dana, in 2007, after he spent 17 years at Duke Ellington School of the Arts as a theater production professor. Howard’s background also includes being an art teacher in D.C. and doing freelance graphic design as well.

The Howards have grown their highly successful FASTSIGNS center from 3 employees to a staff of 10 team members that plan and act like a larger organization. James works to delegate to his team, trusting and empowering them to do their part to grow the business. Rarely are two projects ever the same, which lends to continual creativity and problem-solving.

«Solutions are behind what we do. Whatever our clients need, we are going to figure it out,» said James.

During the pandemic, FASTSIGNS of D.C. did more repeat work due to COVID-19 projects, but that is not the norm in their center. When the pandemic affected their day-to-day business operations, they were prepared as a result of prior work.

«Luckily, we are tech geeks and have been working and growing our systems for inner office efficiency for a few years,» said Howard James. «Once we had to do more remote work away from the office, we realized those same systems allowed us to do that seamlessly. Our team did their best to come together to make sure every client was still taken care of and their fellow staff members were backed up if something needed a little more attention. I am very proud of my team’s efforts over the past year.»

Howard James believes the key to happy clients is a strong team, and FASTSIGNS is truly a team sport. He attributes his high level of success to the great employees he has brought on. He knows you must find, train and keep a great team, because they are the key to growth. He also coaches his team to focus on solutions and not products, and this results in stronger relationships with his customers who count on them for advice and guidance. He routinely engages with the network and looks for ways to improve his operation, serve his clients and encourages his team to do the same.

«Without the support of my wife, Dana, and my kids, the time and energy I spend building our business would not be possible. I am deeply thankful for their support,» said James.

Howard James is always willing to talk to franchise candidates, and he has served as a mentor for many new franchisees. FASTSIGNS of Washington, D.C. has received numerous honors, awards and recognition for excellent performance over many years. FASTSIGNS of DC is also a Black Enterprise Magazine Franchise Company of the Year Recipient.

A leader who never stops learning, Howard James has been in and completed a number of business development programs and has graduated from Goldman Sachs 10KSB, Inner City Capital Connections, SBA Emerging Leaders, Clark Construction Strategic Partnership Program and the Suntrust Small Business Development Program. He is currently enrolled in the WACIF / AmeriHealth Small Business Development Program as well as the ELEVATE program, a partnership between GW SB, CNHED, (Cohort 1).

In addition to receiving the FASTSIGNS Award, Howard James was recognized this year for his continued service on the Franchise Advisory Council. The members of the Franchise Advisory Council (FAC) represent all FASTSIGNS franchisees in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, and they provide strategic direction on services and programs, as well as advice and guidance that benefit the entire FASTSIGNS network.

«Howard and Dana James are a wonderful asset to our brand; they represent the FASTSIGNS brand with passion. They are deeply committed to FASTSIGNS, setting an excellent example in the FASTSIGNS network in all areas: from building a successful team, to solving visual communication challenges for customers daily, to providing leadership within the FASTSIGNS network,» said Catherine Monson, CEO at FASTSIGNS International and Chair of the IFA. «As dedicated franchise owners, they deserve the ultimate in recognition. They represent our brand with excellence and enthusiasm, and they are fully committed to helping other franchisees do the same.»

Metadata.io Releases Insights and Raw Performance Data for B2B Marketers from $15M in Ad Spend on Facebook and LinkedIn

SAN FRANCISCO, March 4, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Metadata.io, the autonomous demand generation platform, unveiled a comprehensive analysis of all paid social campaigns their customers ran using the platform in 2020. The report, <a target="_blank"…

SAN FRANCISCO, March 4, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Metadata.io, the autonomous demand generation platform, unveiled a comprehensive analysis of all paid social campaigns their customers ran using the platform in 2020. The report, What We Learned from $15M in Spend on Facebook and LinkedIn, identifies key trends that shaped the most successful B2B marketing programs last year. The analysis and raw data are available for B2B marketers to download and analyze today.

The report is derived from anonymized analysis of B2B paid social campaigns from Metadata’s customer base, from more than $15 million in ad spend, 30,000 campaign experiments launched, 1.9 million clicks, 102,000 leads created, and triggered over $66 million in qualified pipeline.

The analysis exposes common challenges, best practices, tips, and opportunities for B2B marketers looking to maximize the effectiveness of their Facebook and LinkedIn campaigns, including:

  • Marketers who experiment more reap the benefits. Of Metadata customers, those who had a higher number of experiments, regardless of how much they spent, ultimately yielded better campaign performance than those who didn’t experiment as much.
  • Popular call-to-actions can be pricey on LinkedIn. The «Learn More» CTA has the highest CTR on LinkedIn, but also the highest CPL. If a campaign goal is lead generation, but the marketer optimizes only for engagement, the price will be more. On the other hand, «Register» is one of the least used CTAs on LinkedIn and carries the lower CPL.
  • Cost-Per-Leads (CPLs) are generally 10-50% lower on Facebook—but quality edges higher on LinkedIn. Some marketers actually get lower CPLs on LinkedIn. For example, for certain personas and in some countries, Facebook is used much less, meaning there is a larger audience on LinkedIn. More inventory means lower price. That said, from a fit perspective, LinkedIn tends to drive more qualified leads based on conversion to opportunity and won deals.
  • Facebook is very effective for top of funnel campaigns. On Facebook, the most popular CTAs also happen to have the lowest price tag. And «Learn More» is most efficient, with the highest CTR and a CPL on-par with other CTAs.
  • Less is more on LinkedIn, and more is more on Facebook. For both brand awareness and lead gen campaigns on LinkedIn, the most-common text length is more than 100 characters. On Facebook, longer ads garnered more clicks with some of the lowest CPLs, yet the vast majority of brands are still using less than 100 characters.

«B2B Marketers are always curious how they stack up against their peers and how to improve when it comes to campaign performance,» said Jason Widup, VP of Marketing, Metadata. «We want to be a resource for B2B Marketers and help them navigate what works and what doesn’t. Both Facebook and LinkedIn play an integral role in campaigns, generating leads, and growing the business, and our analysis and anonymized platform data help B2B marketers run smarter, better campaigns.»

To create What We Learned from $15M in Spend on Facebook and LinkedIn, Metadata.io analyzed anonymized campaigns from its entire customer base from January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020. The benchmarks and insights within the report are based on averages from those campaigns. Metadata is sharing its raw data from real customers so marketers can see what’s working and compare its own campaigns.

MIAMI, March 4, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — You’ve probably heard all of the commotion about the protective coating called Kevlar that can give the utmost protection to your vehicle inside and out. While you may be familiar with it, you may have hesitated because of the price that car detailers charge to apply this paint protection onto your vehicle. Worry no more as Fortador has the solution to your problems.

Instead of fretting over the price you would pay to have paint protection applied to your vehicle, why not buy one of Fortador’s Kevlar coating kits? This easy-to-use ceramic coating product gives you everything you need to protect your vehicle’s exterior and even the cabin materials. You don’t need any special training to apply it as Fortador gives you everything you need to be successful.

«Our Kevlar kit is extremely user-friendly as you can apply the paint coating on any clean car in your garage at home,» said Ugur Sezmis, Kevlar RD of Fortador. «We provide you with step-by-step instructions that make it so simple that anyone can do it.»

The Fortador Kevlar kit provides DIY detailers with enough Kevlar coating to keep your vehicle protected for 36 months. Also included are application pads and cloths, along with the instructions. You can also apply Kevlar coating to many interior surfaces, including cloth and leather seating.

Why is Kevlar so Popular?

Anyone who goes off-road a lot knows that the exterior of their vehicle can take a beating from dirt, debris, rocks and anything else they may encounter. Just one off-road adventure can leave the exterior of a 4X4 or SUV looking dull and dirty, not to mention dented if the terrain you travel is particularly rugged. Owners of pickup trucks also like Kevlar for paint protection and to help keep the truck beds clean.

But what if you just have a family car or maybe a sportscar? The Fortador kit is great for those types of vehicles, too, as it will help protect against enviromental damage and keep the exterior looking better than brand new.

«If you buy a brand new car, you don’t have to pay thousands of dollars extra for the dealer to do the coating,» said Ugur. «You can do it yourself and keep your car looking just like it did coming out of the factory.»

Advantages of Kevlar Over High-End Wax

Because of the way it bonds to surfaces, Kevlar offers more protection to exterior paint than traditional high-end car wax. Even the best was products eventually wear off, leaving the pain surface vulnerable to dirt, debris and other undesirable elements. The polymers in Kevlar create a semi-permanent to permanent bond with paint, providing protection for a longer period. While you will eventually have to reapply Kevlar, the time between applications will be much longer.

Other Kevlar advantages include:

  • Keeps paint from fading due to less oxidation from the sun’s UV rays
  • Exterior is more resistant to stains and etching
  • Easier washing as dirt, grease, grim, mud, leaves and more will come right off paint and cabin surfaces
  • Eliminates water spotting after washing to preserve a high gloss look
  • Less frequent washings giving you more time to do the things you want

International Code Council releases new framework to address energy efficiency needs across the entire building industry

WASHINGTON, March 4, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Today the International Code Council, the leading global source of model codes and standards and building safety solutions, released a new framework to assist governments and building industry stakeholders in meeting energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction goals.

The Code Council Board of Directors, which consists of 18 government code officials who were elected by their peers, adopted the framework, Leading the Way to Energy Efficiency: A Path Forward on Energy and Sustainability to Confront a Changing Climate. This framework includes using the Code Council’s American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved standards process to update the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).

Future editions of the IECC will build on prior successes including an increase of efficiency requirements by about 40%, or an average of 8% a cycle from 2006 to 2021, allowing the IECC to remain a strong avenue for communities to reach their energy efficiency and sustainability goals globally. With the base 2021 IECC efficiency requirements just 10% away from net zero for residential buildings, under the new framework future editions of the IECC will increase base efficiency using a balancing test proposed in bipartisan legislation that has cleared the U.S. House and Senate and has been supported by energy efficiency advocates and the building industry

The IECC will be developed under a revised scope and be part of a portfolio of greenhouse gas reduction solutions that could address electric vehicles, electrification and decarbonization, integration of renewable energy and energy storage, existing buildings performance standards and more. The Code Council’s new framework will also provide optional requirements aimed at achieving net zero energy buildings presently and by 2030. Using a tiered approach, the framework offers adopting jurisdictions a menu of options, from a set of minimum requirements to pathways to net zero energy and additional greenhouse gas reduction policies.

«Thank you to our members and stakeholders for their feedback throughout this process,» said Greg Wheeler, CBO, President of the Code Council. «After careful consideration of all the input, the Board of Directors has approved this coordinated, comprehensive strategy to support the needs of our communities, building on the Code Council’s strong foundation of technical solutions provided by the IECC, International Residential Code and International Green Construction Code.»

«The Code Council is committed to furthering the progress the IECC has made to date and ensuring our energy code continues to meet the needs of governments around the world to advance their energy efficiency goals,» said Dominic Sims, CBO, Chief Executive Officer of the Code Council. «We have heard clearly feedback from the building safety community asking us to strengthen the IECC and create new resources to help communities address their climate goals. We will rise to that challenge.»

The Code Council has also announced the establishment of an Energy and Carbon Advisory Council which will consist of governmental and industry leaders to inform the Code Council’s efforts. The Energy and Carbon Advisory Council will advise on which additional greenhouse gas reduction policies the IECC should integrate, the pace that the IECC’s baseline efficiency requirements should advance, plus needs and gaps that the Code Council should work to address. The Code Council will begin outreach to fill the Energy and Carbon Advisory Council in March.

A call for applications for the IECC Development Committees will take place in March. The committees will represent diversity across nine interest categories and assure representation from a diversity of jurisdictions, experiences in building types and energy efficiency strategies, and geographies.

«Government officials will have the strongest voice on the committee, and the consensus process requires one third of the seats to be government regulators,» continued Wheeler. Committee membership will be determined through an open nominations process with no seats reserved for organizations.
