LONDON, March 3, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — BE OPEN Art, an online gallery designed by Elena Baturina’s BE OPEN think tank, is happy to announce its first ever Artist of the Year, selected by the biggest vote among the monthly ratings.

Our congratulations and the €500 prize go to Theophilus Tetteh (NiiOdai), an experimental and expressionist artist from Ghana.

Theophilus Tetteh, also known by his brush name Nii Odai, is from the capital city of Accra, Ghana. As a painter, he works in a diverse variety of themes, which include crowds, architecture, landscapes, townscapes, portraits and Ghanaian village scenes. Theophilus is a member of the Ghana Association of Visual Artist (GAVA).

Aiming to showcase young talents, every month of 2020 BE OPEN Art invited art enthusiasts to choose the best artist among those exhibited in the online gallery. The artist whose works gained a majority of votes throughout the year was then named the Artist of the Year.

To be featured in the gallery, BE OPEN Art selects artists at an early stage of their career who emphasize social consciousness, philosophical meaning and the aesthetical solutions for the wrongs of the contemporary world, such as inequality, lack of diversity, environmental issues, and consumerism. In a way, the project sees its mission in looking for the new influencers in the art scene, and invites everyone to contribute to this process.

Founder of BE OPEN Elena Baturina «We are thrilled to see the number of remarkable emerging talents from all over the world that BE OPEN Art is proud to showcase and celebrate. BE OPEN Art is designed to facilitate them in getting deserved attention and an opportunity to have their say in the art and therefore affect lives of people who appreciate it. We also take the opportunity to applause all the featured artists and thank everyone who voted during the year.»

BE OPEN Art is an online gallery of contemporary art created by BE OPEN foundation with an ambition to provide emerging artists around the globe with an opportunity to showcase their work to the world of art professionals and a starting point for connections to be built between the new creators and collectors of today. BE OPEN Art especially welcomes authors who do not have their own resources, patronage and promotional opportunities: graduates, self-taught artists, artists with a deprived background.

ROME, March 3, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — After a long wait here is the new DJI drone! We are talking about the brand new DJI FPV COMBO drone, a mix of performance and extreme shooting that you can fly with an immersive experience, thanks to the use of FPV Goggles V2.

For the first time in the World, a DJI drone performed a track race at the famous Modena racetrack with one of the fastest supercars currently on the market, the Lamborghini Huracan EVO, with its 640 horsepower. The supercar from Sant’Agata Bolognese has a power-to-weight ratio of 2.22 kg/hp; it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 9 seconds. The maximum speed is 325 km/h. These characteristics make the Huracan EVO one of the most competitive on the track.

The challenger is the new DJI FPV COMBO drone, with a weight of just 795 grams and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds and a maximum speed of 140 Km/h.

Find out how the challenge went on the track in this fantastic video made by Andrea Galeazzi, the most famous Italian YouTuber:

The DJI FPV Combo features a two-axis stabilized camera with a rocksteady system and a maximum resolution of 4K at 60 fps. Flight time is about 20 minutes.

It is the only FPV drone in the world to have flight modes that make it easy to use by both beginners and experienced pilots thanks to the extreme flight configurations.

The race was the brainchild of the Italian engineer Flavio Dolce, head of the DJI Authorized Retail Stores in Italy and thanks to the collaboration of Lamborghini and the Modena Circuit.

Chaffin Luhana Foundation Announces 2021 Anti-Distracted Driving Scholarship Essay Contest

PITTSBURGH, March 3, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — The Chaffin Luhana Foundation, a non-profit organization that encourages the development of human potential and supports community empowerment, is pleased to announce that it is accepting submissions for its annual Anti-Distracted Driving Scholarship. The 2021 scholarship will award a local student in the Greater Pittsburgh area helping in the fight against distracted driving with a $2,500

The 2021 scholarship will award a local student in the Greater Pittsburgh area helping in the fight against distracted driving with a $2,500 scholarship to be applied toward further education.

Recognizing the dangers associated with distracted driving – while at the same time committed to educating and acting upon it – the Chaffin Luhana Foundation’s annual campaign invites students to submit an inspiring essay about distracted driving. These essays can be about a personal experience, a proposed awareness campaign, or technology and its impact on distracted driving.

«Our goal is to encourage students to take a critical look at the ways in which they commonly become distracted while driving,» says Eric Chaffin, Managing Partner of Chaffin Luhana LLP, and a Trustee of the Chaffin Luhana Foundation. «Distracted driving is a leading factor in crashes nationwide, and is especially deadly among young drivers. While we’ve been unable to present directly to students due to Covid-related school-closings, our annual campaign continues to allow us to connect, inform, and educate.»

High school and college undergraduate students in the Greater Pittsburgh Area are invited to submit a 500-700-word essay about one of the following topics:

1. Personal Experience. Have you had a personal experience with distracted driving? If so, how has it impacted your life?

2. Plan for Action. Create a realistic distracted driving awareness campaign to effectively reduce the number of distracted driving related auto accidents in the U.S. Please include: ways to better educate the public about the dangers of distracted driving; steps that can be taken to prevent new, young drivers from distracted driving; and actionable steps that can be taken to put an end to distracted driving.

3. Technology’s Impact. How do you think technology and recent technology advancements have impacted the rise of distracted driving in the United States? Also, how big of a role do you believe that technology can have in putting an end to distracted driving?

Students are also required to post on social media tagging The Chaffin Luhana Foundation (@chaffinluhanafoundation) to explain why they believe this cause is important.

The NHTSA defines distracted driving as «any activity that diverts attention from driving, including talking or texting on your phone, eating and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation system—anything that takes your attention away from the task of safe driving.»

For more information on our scholarship contest, rules, and criteria, visit our website: https://www.chaffinluhana.com/scholarship. The application deadline is July 31st, 2020.

Survey: Majority of Business Leaders Don’t Support $15 Minimum Wage; Job Seekers Narrowly Approve

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla., March 3, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Seventy-four percent of business leaders do not support a federal minimum wage increase to $15 per hour, while job seekers narrowly support the measure at 57%.

This is according to a recent poll conducted on Express Employment Professionals’ blogs for business leaders and job seekers.

When asked further how a $15 federal minimum wage would impact their employee count, 51% of business leaders said they would have to reduce their workforce numbers, and 42% said there would be no impact. Seven percent said they could actually increase headcount with the change.

Job seeker survey respondents provided examples of how the minimum wage increase would impact their household, including:

  • «It would cause inflation in prices for other goods to compensate for the higher wage.»
  • «It would help in the short term, but with the long-term rising costs of everything and small businesses more likely to close permanently, it’s not worth it. Also, most jobs pay close to or more than $15 to start.»
  • «It would help me pay my rent, utilities, and other living expenses.»
  • «My family wouldn’t be struggling as much as we are now.»
  • «Long-term, I see it as a negative as inflationary pressure would quickly increase the cost-of-living to the point that the minimum wage workers would be returned to their prior economic status.»
  • «It’s not enough in certain parts of California. Cost of living keeps going up, but wages don’t.»

In Florida where Express franchise owner Mike Brady operates, state legislation dictates a gradual minimum wage increase over the next three years until it reaches $15 an hour.

«I think employee count at clients we serve will stay the same and others will decrease a little,» the Jacksonville franchisee said. «It’ll be a mixed bag that will impact all companies in some form or fashion.»

Similar legislation was also passed in Connecticut, eventually reaching a state minimum wage of $15.

«There’s no question in my mind there will be fewer people working—it’s already happened going from $9.60 to $12 where it currently is at,» said Dwight Hahn, Windsor, Connecticut, Express franchise owner. «There is only so much margin in our manufacturing machine and the workforce will undoubtedly be reduced to keep costs affordable.»

In addition to the immediate impacts, both Brady and Hahn see long-term consequences that would impact the workforce.

«A big impact is having less people working,» Hahn said. «Businesses will have no choice but to make up the cost somewhere, and much of it will be in the area of manpower. Additionally, there will be fewer low-paying jobs for the person who wants entry-level work, part-time work or a second job.»

Brady predicts consumer goods, fast food and other services will cost more and the low- or no-skill workers will be negatively impacted.

«We’ll see the skills gap widen as a result of fewer opportunities to learn through entry-level positions, and the market will become even more competitive,» he said.

While Brady thinks a $15 minimum wage makes sense in locations with higher costs-of-living, Hahn disagrees.

«The principle is the same regardless of the location in the country,» he said. «There is a finite amount of payroll money to go around and businesses need to make tough decisions to keep their operations running within budget and at levels where their services are affordable to consumers.»

With the potential to impact so many parts of the economy, Express CEO Bill Stoller said any action on the proposed $15 minimum wage should be weighed carefully.

«Despite making strides to repair the economy, businesses are still struggling to recover from the COVID-19 shutdowns,» he said «Now might not be the best time to put their existence in further jeopardy by passing blanket legislation for very different parts of the country. Everyone deserves a fair wage, and we see this happening all over the country as demand picks up again.»

Survey Methodology
The survey of 1,290 business leaders, decision makers and job seekers was conducted in February 2021 through the Express Refresh Leadership and Job Journey blogs.

Global Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Markets, 2016-2019 & 2020-2027 by Technology, Type, Payload, Application

DUBLIN, March 3, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The «Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Market Share, Size, Trends, Industry Analysis Report By Technology; By AUV Type; By Payload; By Application; By Regions – Segment Forecast, 2020-2027» report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com’s offering.

Research and Markets Logo

The global autonomous underwater vehicle market size is expected to reach USD 2.10 Billion by 2027, according to the study.

Increasing numbers of research operations in the oil & gas industry, combined with growing public expenditure on marine water surveillance to preserve the equilibrium of aquatic life, are anticipated to drive the global AUV market over the forecast period.

The creation of an intricate seabed map ensures that petroleum and gas enterprises build pipelines and facilities is assisted by the use of autonomous underwater vehicles. Furthermore, mapping the ocean floors by autonomous underwater vehicles makes installation of submerged floors more cost-effective without harm to the underwater environment.

In addition, fast development in fish farming is also paving the way for the AUV market to grow as these vehicles can provide an inexpensive and safe platform for aqua farmers to monitor water quality parameters such as temperature, turbidity, and conductivity and observe fish conduct during aquaculture feeding procedures.

The growth of the AUV industry is hampered by the high capital investment and the difficulties in the establishment of connections at deep water levels. This hinders the vehicles in transmitting or sending data and other relevant information above sea level. Although sales volumes are rising, the use of vehicles that hinder the AUV sector is regulated by several government organizations.

Furthermore, in autonomous vehicles, the automotive manufacturers and their technology partners are engaged in the development of AI-driven systems to enable autonomous underwater vehicle. These systems integrate a broad range of AI-enabled technologies, including NLP and neural networks. These technologies offer several features that increase the understanding of underwater vehicles, enabling the safe drive with or without driver on board.

Autonomous underwater vehicle manufacturers are found to adopt primarily three kinds of approaches, namely acquisitions, collaborations and product launches, to create distinctive brand value and enrich their global market shares. Manufacturers of autonomous underwater vehicles are installing state-of-the-art sensor systems like Sonar.

Atlas Elektronik GmbH, Bluefin Robotics, Saab Group, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Boston Engineering Corporation, Oceanserver Technology, International Submarine Engineering (ISE) Ltd., Kongsberg Groups, Teledyne Technologies, Eca Group, Graal, Inc., and Fugro are major players working in the AUV market.

EDISON, N.J., March 3, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — During last week’s Senate Finance Committee confirmation hearing, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary nominee Xavier Becerra and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island agreed to work together on a pilot project to improve the end-of-life care experience for individuals and their families.

Having supported more than 300,000 individuals and their families through advanced illness decision-making, Vital Decisions offers its knowledge, evidence base and recommendations in support of expediting wide scale improvements in end-of-life care.

Research shows that individuals who receive advance care planning services are more likely to have conversations about their end-of-life care wishes, a turning point that increases the likelihood of receiving care that is consistent with their preferences and associated with better quality of life and greater satisfaction. Research also shows that having these conversations earlier in the illness trajectory has the most meaningful impact on the care experience, when the individual and the family can make optimal, unpressured decisions.

From its vantage point as an essential partner to Medicare, Medicaid and Commercial plans nationwide, Vital Decisions offers policy considerations for advance care planning best-practices delivered on a national scale:

  • Increase broad access to advance care planning services delivered by specialized behavioral health clinicians through a telehealth model.
  • Proactively engage individuals with serious illness, along with their caregivers, in Goals of Care conversations as a covered healthcare benefit.
  • Utilize evidence-based methods of intervention that demonstrate impact with diverse and underserved populations to improve access to care.
  • Leverage a coordinated, technological infrastructure to streamline the integration of advance care plans across the healthcare ecosystem.

When these best-practices are employed, Vital Decisions observes clinical evidence proving that activating and empowering individuals, their family and caregivers is transformational:

  • Increasing satisfaction with care planning: Survey data from over 30,000 program participants shows an overwhelming 88% of respondents highly value the advance care planning process.
  • Reducing unwanted, unwarranted care: More than 35 economic impact studies of the advance care planning provided through Vital Decisions’ Living Well program show that care aligned with an individuals’ preferences is consistently 20% lower in cost compared to care that does not incorporate personal preferences.

«Individuals and their families need significantly more help with the emotional side of care. We applaud Becerra and Sen. Whitehouse for making this a priority — it’s a personal issue for us too. We must make far greater and faster progress on behalf of all Americans,» said Leah Puccio, Vital Decisions’ CEO. «Our organization was founded to change healthcare decision making for the better, at scale. We offer our platform as a research conduit to fast-track our government and policymaking partners’ efforts.»

MINNEAPOLIS, March 3, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — As average temperatures around the globe climb, a preliminary study has found people with multiple sclerosis (MS) may expect worsening symptoms, enough to send them to the hospital more often. The preliminary study released March 2, 2021 will be presented at the American Academy of Neurology’s 73rd Annual Meeting being held virtually April 17 to April 22, 2021.

«We know that heat sensitivity is common in multiple sclerosis, and climate scientists expect that periods of anomalously warm weather will become more frequent with climate change,» said study author Holly Elser, Ph.D., of Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, Calif., and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. «Our study suggests that warming trends could have serious health implications over the long term for people living with MS.»

Anomalously warm weather was defined as any month in which local average temperatures were higher than the long-term average temperature for that month by at least 1.5 degrees Celsius, or almost 2 degrees Fahrenheit.

For the study, researchers looked at insurance claims for 106,225 people with MS living across the United States. Researchers calculated the estimated effect of anomalously warm weather on MS-related emergency department, inpatient and outpatient visits. Researchers then compared the number of medical visits for each person during periods of anomalously warm weather to periods of normal weather.

Researchers found that during periods of anomalously warm weather, participants had a 4% increased chance of having an emergency department visit compared to periods of normal weather. Participants had a 3% increased chance of having an inpatient visit and a 1% increased chance of having an outpatient visit during anomalously warm periods compared to periods of normal weather.

Researchers estimate that over the course of follow-up, periods of anomalously warm weather were associated with an estimated excess of at least 592 emergency department visits, 1,260 inpatient visits and 1,960 outpatient visits related to MS.

«While the relative increase in risk of visits is small, the associated absolute effect on people with MS and the health care system is meaningful,» Elser said.

Limitations of the study include that the study was retrospective and that researchers had no direct way to measure peoples’ symptoms.

The study was supported by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

CHICAGO, March 3, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Amsted Industries, a diversified designer and manufacturer of cutting-edge industrial solutions serving the railroad, vehicular and construction markets with a global footprint spanning 65 facilities in 10 countries across 6 continents, is bringing together two of its century-old, core Tier 1 automotive supply business units, Means Industries and Burgess Norton, to form a new and innovative technology team: the Amsted Automotive Group (AAG). The integration provides an expanded global presence with 16 facilities in North America, Asia and Europe to adequately serve the global customer base with a robust manufacturing footprint producing over 100 million components and assemblies annually. This group combines design and engineering expertise, strategically aligned to be a nimble leader in advanced metal-forming and powder metal manufacturing with electro-mechanical clutch design capabilities for electrified propulsion solutions – building on our integral role in global advanced automatic transmissions designed in North America, Europe, and Asia.

«The world automotive market is going through a period of fundamental change,» said Stephen Smith, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Amsted Industries. «The transition to electric vehicles has the potential to reshape much of the industry, including the supply base. We are bringing Means Industries and Burgess-Norton together to form the AAG to focus on being significant participants in electric vehicle technology, design and manufacturing supply, while capitalizing on the remaining opportunities for supply to traditional internal combustion engine programs.»

This combination of expertise in torque transfer and powder-metal forming will facilitate more elegant and stronger designs which reduce parasitic losses in the powertrain. This has the potential to extend electric vehicle driving range or reduce electric motor and battery requirements.

«The electric vehicle market is no longer emerging; it is here, and production volumes will increase rapidly,» said Jeremy Holt, President of AAG. «The formation of AAG aligns our design and engineering expertise, making the company a leader in torque transfer for electric vehicles without diminishing resources for internal-combustion engine programs.»

The advantages of forming the AAG became apparent during the development of a disconnect device which is used in a new production electric vehicle that will launch in 2021. This device uses unique clutching technology developed by Means and Burgess-Norton proprietary powder-metal forming. With the AAG, the teams will be further integrated for more rapid and smooth brainstorming, development and refinement of concepts, prototyping and manufacturing.

AAG provides the foundation for the company to further expand in the automotive market and beyond. The new group will bring together team members in multiple operations located in Mexico, Italy, China, Japan, Canada and the United States.
