Government-backed autonomous vehicles project has achieved its goal of sending a Nissan LEAF on a self-navigated ‘Grand Drive’.

The Grand Drive’s success highlights the UK as one of the best places in the world for the development and deployment of Connected and Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) technology.

The journey was completed at the end of November 2019, and there were 2 test engineers on board, constantly monitoring the vehicle’s actions to deliver a safe autonomous journey.

The project, which featured a range of partners led by Nissan UK, created 27 jobs over the course of the project and a further 20 have been added since as the partners continue to work together on commercialising the technology.

Nissan UK has since established an autonomous driving test facility at its R&D facility in Cranfield, with additional work and investment from Nissan Japan. Hitachi Europe has also set up an AV research operation in the UK while HORIBA MIRA has continued to evolve its test facilities at Nuneaton in Warwickshire. Cranfield and Leeds universities have expanded their AV research capabilities too.

The project drew from the partners’ expertise in a range of R&D and testing disciplines to develop an advanced, autonomous vehicle control system that emulates the natural driving style of a human at the wheel. Using machine learning and artificial intelligence developed by Hitachi, and other technologies developed by Nissan, the objective was to create a comfortable and familiar experience for customers in a new, autonomous world.

As well as development of autonomous control systems, the project covered cyber security, human interaction and public acceptance, public road trials and demonstrations in a variety of settings, including country roads, high-speed roundabouts, A-roads and motorways in live traffic.

The 100% electric Nissan LEAFs used as the test vehicles featured GPS, radar, LIDAR (laser scanners) and camera technologies to build a perception of the world around it. The system then made decisions about how to navigate roads and obstacles encountered on a journey, directing the car to change lanes, merge with traffic and stop and start when necessary at roundabouts and traffic signals.

There are many words to describe them—professional, compassionate, selfless, dedicated, brave, tireless—but we simply call them Heroes.

At Dunlop Motorcycle Tires, we want to honor these Humble Heroes by giving you the opportunity to nominate a healthcare worker or first responder who went above and beyond during the pandemic, and we’ll reward one individual with a new 2020 Harley-Davidson® XL1200 Sportster Roadster™.

Dunlop has a special appreciation for those who stepped up during the pandemic. Our factory in Buffalo, NY was designated essential early in the crisis, and our associates showed up, masked up and continued to do what they do best every day—build premium tires for the American motorcyclist.

Harley-Davidson’s Sportster Roadster was a natural for this project. Dunlop has been a trusted original-equipment tire supplier to Harley-Davidson for more than 35 years—over ten million Dunlop tires have rolled off the motor company assembly line—and the iconic Sportster is popular among new riders and offers many customizing variations.

To emphasize this, Dunlop Motorcycle Tires is collaborating with long-time partner Roland Sands Design (RSD) to create custom variations of the Sportster over the coming months featuring different Dunlop tires. The winner of this contest will receive a new 2020 Harley-Davidson XL1200 Sportster Roadster in stock condition. Autistic Children Can Travel Country, Thanks to RV Sales of Broward and YouTube Sensations RV Odd Couple

DAVIE, Fla., Sept. 4, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Gigi Stetler, CEO of RV Sales of Broward and founder of the non-profit <a target="_blank"…

DAVIE, Fla., Sept. 4, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Gigi Stetler, CEO of RV Sales of Broward and founder of the non-profit RV Advisor Consumer Association (RVACA), donated an RV to YouTube stars and full-time RVers the RV Odd Couple as part of RVACA’s new initiative RVs for Autism.

After the success of RVACA’s coronavirus assistance funds in helping frontline workers, the new RVs for Autism fund will provide families with autistic children free RVs so they can travel safely in a familiar environment while introducing their children to different parts of the country.

This is an important cause to the RV Odd Couple, John and Mercedes Condon, as their daughter, 4-year-old Sage, was recently diagnosed with autism.

«We feel like we have a responsibility to foster awareness of how therapeutic RVing is for autistic children and their families,» said John and Mercedes Condon. «Many people think that children with autism need the exact same routine every single day, but the reality is that preparing our child for real life means that she needs to be able to handle change and RVing offers the familiarity of home with the therapy of travel.»

When Stetler heard about their daughter’s diagnosis and how RV travel could be an effective form of therapy, Stetler knew she had the perfect way to help.

«We were initially talking about how we could partner to protect RV consumers’ rights through RV Advisor, but when they told me about their daughter’s diagnosis and that they were looking to get an RV, I immediately said ‘I have an RV for you,'» said Stetler.

Without delay, Stetler began preparing a Class C RV for donation with bunkbeds for Sage and a master bedroom for John and Mercedes. Yesterday, September 3rd, the RV Odd Couple picked up their RV and filmed a reveal video for their nearly 100,000 subscribers.

«I’m excited for them to be able to share these camping experiences with their daughter knowing that she’ll always have a familiar place to call home,» said Stetler.

Ordering is now open for the redesigned 2021 Chrysler Pacifica, giving families the chance to bring home the most advanced all-wheel-drive (AWD) system in its class, up to 80 MPGe with the first hybrid powertrain in the segment, more standard safety features than any vehicle in the industry, a refreshed exterior and interior and upgraded technology, such as the new Uconnect 5 system, at a starting U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $35,045, with AWD available at a starting U.S. MSRP of $38,040 (all prices exclude destination).

«For more than 35 years, Chrysler has led innovation, and the new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica and Pacifica AWD, with more standard safety features than any vehicle in the industry, are designed to build on that position,» said Tim Kuniskis, Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America. «Add in all-wheel-drive capability paired with Stow ‘n Go seating, the only plug-in hybrid minivan and the new premium Pinnacle model, and the new 2021 Pacifica is America’s most capable and most technologically advanced minivan.»

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica and Chrysler Voyager will be built at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Vehicles are scheduled to start arriving in dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2020.

2021 Chrysler minivan lineup offers more flexibility for families
Pacifica is the only minivan to offer class-exclusive Stow ‘n Go seating, paired with the most advanced AWD system in its class. The Pacifica’s AWD system engages seamlessly without need of driver activation and with the capability of transferring 100 percent of the available engine torque to the rear wheels. The AWD system – the first available in a Chrysler minivan since 2004 – delivers enhanced traction in a wide range of driving and road conditions, from dry pavement to snow-covered roads to non-paved surfaces. AWD is available at a starting package U.S. MSRP of $2,995 on Touring and Touring L (with an included 18-inch wheel upgrade for both). Customers have the option of either the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 paired with AWD or the hybrid powertrain on both the Limited and Pinnacle models.

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, still America’s only plug-in hybrid minivan, is offered on all four Pacifica trim levels and maintains the same starting U.S. MSRP as the 2020 model year for Touring, Touring L and Limited Hybrid models. The Pacifica Hybrid continues to be eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit, as well as any state and local credits. The minivan segment’s first-ever hybrid vehicle delivers more than 80 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) in electric-only mode, an all-electric range of more than 30 miles and a total range of more than 500 miles.

2021 Chrysler minivan lineup: The people-mover brand evolves
Chrysler brand remains committed to the minivan segment that it invented more than 35 years ago with a full 2021 lineup that provides families a range of options, from an entry-level minivan to a premium people-mover. The redesigned 2021 Chrysler Pacifica four-model lineup — Touring, Touring L, Limited and the new top-of-line Pinnacle — delivers a menu of choices to fit any family, while Chrysler Voyager is the budget-friendly family option.

The new-for-2021 Pacifica packs more value than ever in its price tag, with more standard features than ever. The 2021 Pacifica offers more standard safety features than any vehicle in the industry, including:

  • New LED lights
  • Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • Blind-spot Monitoring
  • Rear Cross Path detection
  • ParkSense rear park assist
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Full Stop
  • Electronic stability control (ESC)
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Lane Departure Warning

All told, the 2021 Pacifica lineup delivers 116 standard and available safety and security features.

The 2021 Pacifica’s standard new exterior design expression is much more deeply sculpted, athletic and modern in character, with utility-vehicle-inspired design cues. A new top-of-the-line Pinnacle model sets a new standard in the segment with a sophisticated, luxurious interior that incorporates a new integrated Ultra console — the most functional center console in its class — and elite appointments, such as quilted Nappa Caramel leather seats with new matching lumbar comfort pillows.

The all-new Uconnect 5 system, standard across the 2021 Pacifica lineup, includes a largest-in-class 10.1-inch standard touchscreen, which is nearly 20 percent larger than the screen it replaces. The system is five times faster than Uconnect 4 and includes Amazon Alexa capabilities.

The new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica also gives parents a bird’s-eye view of their most precious cargo, thanks to the available new FamCAM interior camera, which delivers a best-in-class, high-definition image and allows the driver a view of rear-facing child seat occupants in the second row and even allows them to zoom in on passengers. Another first for the segment, new USB Type C ports allow devices to charge up to four times faster than standard USB outlets.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica Touring
Pacifica Touring is loaded with standard features at a starting U.S. MSRP of $35,045 with the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar engine that produces 287 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque. The hybrid powertrain option, starting at a U.S. MSRP of $39,995, features the FCA-designed, innovative dual-motor eFlite electrically variable transmission (EVT) paired with a specially modified version of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 gasoline engine.

Pacifica Touring, as with the entire Pacifica lineup, includes 14 new-as-standard safety features, such as Pedestrian AEB, Forward Collison Warning, adaptive cruise control, Lane Departure Warning, automatic high beams, LED headlamps, LED fog lamps and more.

Additional standard content includes the new Uconnect 5 system, which features the largest standard radio touchscreen in its class with a 10.1-inch high-definition touchscreen, a 7-inch driver information display and Type C USB ports, which allow devices to be charged up to four times faster than standard USB outlets. A new soft-touch instrument panel with accent stitching is standard, as well as second-row sunshades.

Interior standard features include class-exclusive Stow ‘n Go seating, seven-passenger seating (with eight-passenger seating available), eight-way power front seats, power sliding doors and liftgate, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, hands-free Bluetooth-integrated phone voice command and three-zone automatic temperature controls. Pacifica Touring features a carryover of the 2020 model’s interior console.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L
Pacifica Touring L builds on the many standard features of the Touring model, starting at a U.S. MSRP of $38,145 for the Pentastar V-6 gas-powered model. When equipped with the hybrid powertrain option, the starting U.S. MSRP is $42,295.

The Touring L is upgraded with McKinley perforated leather trim seats and convenience features, including a memory driver seat, heated front row seats, heated steering wheel, grocery bag hooks on third-row seat backs and third-row sunshades.

A second-row USB charge port helps keep passengers in the rear connected, and the Super console from the 2020 Pacifica Limited waterfalls to the 2021 Touring L.

Exterior standard features include a chrome roof rack and chrome body-side moldings.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica Limited
Customers now have the option of either the hybrid powertrain or the 3.6-liter Pentastar engine paired with AWD on the 2021 Pacifica Limited. The Pacifica Limited Hybrid is available at a starting U.S. MSRP of $45,845; the Pacifica Limited AWD is available at a starting U.S. MSRP of $48,390.

The Pacifica Limited incorporates a new-for-2021 Premium console that flows seamlessly into the instrument panel, with soft-sided console panels trimmed in an attractive accent stitch. The Limited Premium console provides dual-level storage with a large pass-through storage area and delivers 7.60 liters of covered console storage, a significant improvement from the 2020 Limited model. The Premium console also includes a tamboured door for center storage that is a half-inch wider and significantly longer than the 2020 model. The Limited interior is also dressed up with Brushed Hydro bezels on the instrument panel.

The Limited goes beyond the Touring L with additional standard content, including the enhanced Uconnect 5 NAV system with new TomTom navigation, wireless device charging, a 13-speaker Alpine audio system, Nappa leather-trimmed seats, ventilated seats, tri-pane sunroof, new 18-inch polished wheels, hands-free sliding doors and liftgate, power-fold mirrors that auto-fold in park, memory mirrors and memory audio.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle
For families seeking a luxurious «living room on wheels» with premium materials and class-exclusive features, the new top-of-the-line 2021 Pacifica Pinnacle Hybrid starts at a U.S. MSRP of $50,845; the Pinnacle with the V-6 engine paired with AWD starts at a U.S. MSRP of $53,390.

The Pinnacle is packed with premium appointments, such as Caramel Nappa leather seats with quilted seat bolsters and perforated seat inserts on all three rows, including the second-row captain’s chairs. Unique, new, second-row comfort lumbar pillows feature an embossed Chrysler logo and match the quilted Nappa Caramel seats with suede pillow backs.

A new, integrated Ultra console exclusive to the Pinnacle is the most functional front center console in its class and is designed to seamlessly flow into the instrument panel, a departure from the 2020 model year. Soft console side panels are trimmed with Caramel accent stitch, and the larger console area allows for the armrest to move from seats to the console.

The Pinnacle’s Ultra console provides dual-level storage, with a deep pass-through area underneath that accommodates a large purse or even a laptop. The rear pull-out drawer travels 2.5 inches longer than that in the 2020 Pacifica for easier access by second-row passengers.

The console delivers 13.65 liters of overall console storage, a one-third increase. Total storage area of the new 2021 Pacifica Pinnacle is 227.6 liters — enough to haul 60 gallons of milk.

Additional interior touches unique to the Pinnacle model include new Mid-century Timber Hydro bezels on the instrument panel, which deliver a «pop» of wood styling, a black suede headliner and a Piano Black finish on the center stack bezel, PRNDL bezel and push-push console storage door. Satin Chrome plating on the seat controls and sliding-door handles, high-end berber-construction floor mats and Satin Chrome door sill guards complete the interior. The exterior stands out with new Platinum Chrome 20-inch wheels and Platinum Chrome grille surround, moldings and exterior badging, including a new Pinnacle side model badge.

The Pinnacle builds on all standard content in the Pacifica lineup with its own collection of elite standard features. The Pinnacle adds to the 2021 Pacifica’s most standard safety features in the industry with the Safety Sphere Package, which includes 360-degree Surround View Camera, ParkSense Parallel/Perpendicular Park Assist and Front Park Assist.

A new FamCAM interior camera, which provides front-seat passengers a view of rear-facing child seat occupants in the second row, even allows them to zoom in on passengers and comes standard on the Pinnacle, as does Uconnect Theater with Blu-ray player. For audiophiles, a new Harman Kardon Premium Audio Group adds a 10-inch rear quarter trim subwoofer with 19-speaker system as standard on the Pinnacle (with a 20-speaker system for Pinnacle Hybrid).

2021 Chrysler Voyager
Chrysler Voyager rounds out the brand’s minivan lineup as a budget-friendly, entry-level family and fleet vehicle at a starting U.S. MSRP of $27,235. Voyager retains the overall look and feel of the original Pacifica, giving it an identity separate from its new-for-2021 sibling.

Standard features include seven-passenger seating with third-row Stow ‘n Go and a 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen radio with integrated voice command with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility. New features added to the 2021 Chrysler Voyager’s optional SafetyTec Group include Pedestrian AEB and Full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus.

Chrysler Brand

China's role in the world anti-fascist war

Casualties and economic losses

2020 Analysis of Airline Brands & the COVID-19 Pandemic: Benchmarking 66 Major Airline Brands and their Responses to COVID-19

DUBLIN, Sept. 4, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The «Airline Brands & the Pandemic: Benchmarking COVID-19 Policies & Communications» report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com’s offering.

Research and Markets Logo

Airline Brands & the Pandemic evaluates 66 major airline brands and their responses to COVID-19.

It focuses on two primary areas of an airline brand’s response to the pandemic: its health and safety policy, and the effectiveness of its corporate communications during the crisis.

The thesis is that comprehensive COVID-19 policies and clear, consistent communications indicate an airline’s preparedness, adaptability, and the likelihood of success in the new normal of air travel that will undoubtedly continue beyond the pandemic.

The study’s main objective is to provide transparency and insights across the airline industry to understand:

  • shifting customer preferences during the pandemic
  • strengths and weaknesses of 66 major airlines, their COVID-19 policies, and corporate communications
  • best practices in communication, building brand credibility, and citizenship
  • how an airline brand’s current actions may impact its future financial performance

The analysis is ideal for airline industry executives, corporate communications leaders, financial analysts, and anyone with a vested interest in aviation.

The study assesses the airline industry by analyzing 66 brands and their health, safety, and cancellation policies in response to COVID-19. It evaluates how airline brands communicate their coronavirus policies to customers, employees, and the general public to inspire confidence in safe travel as the pandemic continues indefinitely. The study also benchmarks brand credibility and citizenship initiatives.

Each brand was audited using the information available on its website and social media pages. The evaluation process simulated what a customer encounters when researching airlines in the current environment.

Airlines were measured on four major metrics:

  • policy
  • communications
  • credibility
  • citizenship

Airlines were selected based on membership in one of the three airline alliances, oneworld, SkyTeam, and Star Alliance. 11 other major airlines that are not part of an airline alliance are also included.

United Strategically Adds Limited Capacity to October Schedule

CHICAGO, Sept. 4, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — United Airlines today announced it plans to fly 40% of its full schedule in October 2020 compared to October of last year. In September, United expects to fly 34% of its full schedule.

CHICAGO, Sept. 4, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — United Airlines today announced it plans to fly 40% of its full schedule in October 2020 compared to October of last year. In September, United expects to fly 34% of its full schedule.

Domestically, United plans to fly 46% of its full schedule in October 2020 compared to October of last year, compared to the 38% schedule it plans to fly domestically in September 2020. The airline also plans to resume eight routes to Hawaii, pending approval of the state’s pre-arrival COVID testing program.

Internationally, United expects to fly 33% of its schedule compared to October of 2019, which is up compared to the 29% schedule it plans to fly in September. United continues to respond to the growth in leisure travel demand by adding flights to cities in Mexico, Central America and South America.

«We continue to be data-driven and realistic in our approach to rebuilding our network,» said Ankit Gupta, United’s vice president of Domestic Network Planning. «Because October is typically a slower month for leisure travel, we’re adjusting our schedules to reflect these seasonal changes in customer demand while resuming service or adding capacity on routes where we’re seeing increased customer demand for travel.»

United is being just as thoughtful in its approach to enhancing the customer experience as it is in rebuilding its network. Earlier this week, the airline was the first U.S. legacy carrier to permanently eliminate change fees on all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S. In addition, starting on January 1, 2021, any United customer can fly standby for free on a flight departing the day of their travel regardless of the type of ticket or class of service. United has also been a leader in safety and enhanced cleaning protocols; as part of its United CleanPlus program, the airline established a partnership with Clorox and Cleveland Clinic in May, was a leader in establishing mandatory face covering policies for both customers and employees and was the first airline to roll out touchless check-in for baggage. Yesterday, United also launched the Destination Travel Guide, a first among U.S. airlines, which makes it easy for customers to plan their travel by helping them easily see local COVID-19 restrictions in all 50 states.

United is even realigning its schedule patterns with the customer in mind to match the current demand for leisure travel. In October, the airline plans to add more flights on days popular with leisure travelers looking to get a head start on long weekend getaways and will schedule fewer flights on days where demand is traditionally lower.

Domestic

  • Resuming or starting new service on nearly 50 routes, including 37 routes from United’s Chicago, Denver and Houston hubs.
  • Resuming additional service to Florida including Washington-Dulles to Sarasota and Miami, and Denver to Fort Myers.
  • Resuming service between Los Angeles and Eugene, Medford and Redmond/Bend in Oregon.

International

  • Resuming service to 14 international destinations including Bogota, Colombia; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Lima, Peru and Panama City, Panama.
  • Increasing to twice daily service between New York/Newark and Tel Aviv and resuming three-times weekly service between Washington, D.C. and Tel Aviv on October 25.
  • Resuming or increasing service to Cancun, Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico from its hubs in Chicago, Denver, Houston, New York/Newark and Washington, D.C.

BOSTON, Sept. 4, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — As IDTechEx predicted in its report, «Robot Shuttles and Autonomous Buses 2020-2040«, robot shuttles are converging with robotaxis. Robot shuttles are a new type of vehicle that is limited to slow speeds for cities. Being silent, robotic and emission-free, they are expected to be allowed over piazzas and through indoor malls to deliver even children and the severely disabled right to their destination safe and dry. Cleverly, they are special boxy symmetric designs never needing to do a U-turn, so they access the tiniest spaces. They are designed to rapidly reconfigure as «last mile» freight carriers, mobile restaurants, school buses and more and display lucrative wide-area advertising. In contrast, robotaxis are analyzed in the IDTechEx report, «Autonomous Cars and Robotaxis 2020-2040«. They are autonomous, road-only taxis going fast and far for a lower cost than manned taxis due to intensive use, some being lent by private owners for part of the day. Physically they are little more than a regular car like a Tesla X.

IDTechEx Logo

Now National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) has presented a mobility ecosystem for autonomous electric vehicles for sharing services, under the name PONS. At the heart of the ecosystem is the autonomous Sango electric vehicle for up to six passengers. NEVS says there is no reason to own an autonomous vehicle. PONS cheaply goes anywhere on city roads. Its new pilot project in Stockholm will operate ten Sango robot shuttles in robotaxi mode. Maximum speed is 15 km/h, later 50 km/h. However, although Toyota will use its E-Palette smart shuttles in its demonstration smart city at the base of Mount Fuji and the Tokyo Olympics, most car makers are ambivalent as both options mean less vehicles need to be manufactured. Leaders in robot shuttles are mainly new companies and they find it easy to get city and financial backing. Time will tell what is the killer concept.
