|
Why:
|
In his Wednesday order, Federal Justice Steve Jones said the State, Black Voters Matter, and other plaintiffs in the voting rights lawsuit over the purge of tens of thousands of voters, should meet to work out «discrepancies» in the State’s voter purge list, errors which will stop citizens from voting in the run-off.
|
At 11 a.m., LaTosha Brown and attorneys will present the corrected list to the Sec. of State (press invited) and ask the voters, including a College Park voter joining her, be returned to the rolls immediately —otherwise they will be wrongly denied their vote in the run-off.
The attorneys will back the demand by serving Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger with a formal notice of a new federal lawsuit should he fail to comply or stall on the Court’s opinion that the parties meet to correct the purge lists.
The plaintiffs, including Black Voters Matter Fund, Rainbow/PUSH, Southwest Voter Registration Education Project, and Transformative Justice Coalition will hit Raffensperger with a new federal suit unless Raffensperger complies.
The list of wrongly purged voters will be supplied by experts with the Palast Investigative Fund, updated from the report by journalist Greg Palast released in September by the ACLU of Georgia.
Plaintiffs and attorneys will answer questions on the Capitol steps at 11:30 a.m.

The following is the full text of a Letter sent by Chairman John Elkann to all FCA employees today:
«Dear Colleagues,
As we come to the end of 2020 – a year unlike any other we have known – we’re also fast approaching the day when we will begin our next chapter with the creation of Stellantis.
As you know it has been agreed that Carlos Tavares will become the CEO of the new company and that Mike will play a fundamental role in the future success of Stellantis.
Mike’s and Carlos’ early meeting of minds – thanks also to a longstanding working friendship – has been critical to every subsequent stage of our discussions with Groupe PSA as it will be for the new company going forward.
Mike championed the extraordinary potential of this industry-changing merger from its earliest days and he has also set the tone for all the great work that has been done by the FCA teams working with our PSA soon-to-be-colleagues, from before the merger announcement a year ago to where we are today, precisely twelve months later.
The challenges we have faced as a group in recent years have been tougher than ever. Mike took the helm of our company under the most difficult of circumstances, with Sergio’s cruel and premature passing in July 2018, and he took us out of those dark days, leading by example. The following year, 2019, can hardly be described as uneventful, but even so we concluded it by sealing our historic merger with Groupe PSA and with another set of very strong results. 2020, a year whose like none of us could have imagined, has required us all to reinvent the way we work, and once again Mike has led from the front making sure to protect you and your work, staying close to our communities and ensuring that our company with all of your contributions has performed to the highest standards.
The fact that as FCA we are entering this new and exciting era in such very strong, robust shape is a great tribute to him and his leadership style, centred around diversity, respect and collaboration, just as it is to all of you and your extraordinary achievements right across the company. The performance we announced for the third quarter was truly outstanding, in fact an all-time record in terms of group and North America results.
Perhaps it should be no surprise that having led the profound transformation and exceptional development of the Jeep and Ram brands before becoming our CEO, Mike has taken the rough terrain of the past couple of years in his stride. We have been fortunate indeed to have him as our CEO. And so, you will understand why I’m delighted to be able to inform you today that once our merger completes – hopefully soon in the new year – Mike will be asked to take up the role of Head of Americas, working alongside Carlos and continuing to bring his great experience, energy and drive to making Stellantis the extraordinary company we know it will be.
He will share his own words with you in his Town Hall meeting later today, but please join me now in appreciation of his leadership over these past two and half years, warmly congratulating him on his new role.
John Elkann «

RIZHAO, China, Dec. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The Publicity Department of Rizhao Municipality announced that at the recent 2020 China Sports Culture Expo & China Sports Tourism Expo, Rizhao once again made the list of winners in the China Sports Tourism Boutique Destination Awards, and the Coastal Cycling and Hiking Route along the Sunshine Coast Green Lane was named a China Sports Tourism Boutique Route.
A key urban construction project in Rizhao City in 2020, the Sunshine Coast Green Lane starts from Lighthouse Square in the south and extends to the south bank of the Liangcheng River in the north – a length of about 28 kilometers. It opened to the public on July 1. The construction of the Green Lane afforded priority to the natural environment and ecology. Specifically, exposed sites and damaged coastal sites have been restored, and 27,000 trees and 280,000 shrubs have been planted as part of a Greener Land project, expanding the green area an additional 490,000 square meters.
The walls along all coastal areas have now been removed, as have the unsightly obsolete facilities and illegal constructions, so the Green Lane runs continuously and gives clear views of the landscape. The Wanpingkou Scenic area and Rizhao Coastal National Forest Park are open, and entry is free of charge. Through 19 connecting channels, the Green Lane connects urban roads, tourist attractions and scenic spots, squares and green spaces, tourist towns and other existing features. In addition, viewing platforms have been constructed and recreation squares put in place for tourists, as well as six floating bridges and one 1,776 meter-long culvert. All this is to create a landscape offering rich and varied experiences – such as walking in the air and walking in a picture. The Green Lane has a unified identification system and its service facilities have been set up in a scientific manner. A three-level system of service has been implemented, consisting of integrated service stations, general service stations and service points. This will ensure the delivery of quality service.
The Green Lane near the Sunshine Coast is a new calling card of Rizhao. It perfectly combines leisure and fitness with ecological experiences, and provides a fresh starting point for Rizhao to strengthen the protection of its coastal zone, build a magnificent city and promote high-quality economic and social development.

MIAMI, Dec. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Carnival Cruise Line today took delivery of its highly anticipated new ship, Mardi Gras, in a live virtual signing ceremony at the Meyer Turku Shipyard in Turku, Finland.
When Mardi Gras begins guest operations in April 2021, the 180,000-gross-ton vessel will be the most innovative ship in North America as it will be the first ship to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), boast a suite of new technology, and BOLT, the first-ever roller coaster at sea.
The ship’s venues, dining and entertainment will be dispersed throughout six distinctive zones, and include a new restaurant by celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse, the line’s first-ever Big Chicken by Shaquille O’Neal, two dining venues led by Food Network star Guy Fieri, and a new restaurant concept by master chef Rudi Sodamin. The centerpiece of the ship is a breathtaking three-deck-high atrium with floor-to-ceiling windows and movable LED screens that open up to a stunning ocean view.
Mardi Gras will accommodate more than 5,200 guests and a crew of 2,000. Guests will have the choice of more than 2,600 staterooms and 180 suites across 11 categories.
«We have been working tirelessly this year to get to this exciting day to take delivery of this beautiful ship, and the team at Meyer Turku has been an outstanding partner throughout this process,» said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. «I cannot wait for our guests and crew to see and experience Mardi Gras. Notwithstanding the delays related to the pandemic, there is tremendous enthusiasm and pent-up demand for this ship. Next we will work on the development of her sister ship, Carnival Celebration, which arrives in 2022 and has sold very well since inventory opened in October.»
«We are delivering a beautiful and highly advanced ship with world-class technology such as LNG propulsion, to name just one. With these sophisticated systems, she will be one of the most environmentally friendly ships to sail the North American waters. I am very proud of our team of shipbuilders and would like to thank everyone involved of their dedication during the building process», CEO of Meyer Turku, Tim Meyer, states.
Duffy said Mardi Gras will depart from Turku later this month to begin her voyage to North America. The ship will operate seven-day Caribbean itineraries from Port Canaveral, Fla., and Carnival has worked closely Port Canaveral to build a new cruise terminal to accommodate the Excel-class ship and also facilitate the new LNG fueling process. The inaugural voyage for Mardi Gras is scheduled for April 24, 2021.

Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto and West Hartford Mayor Shari Cantor have won top honors for 2020, joining 10 other mayoral awardees. The award program demonstrates how cities of all sizes are dealing with the effects of climate change and the impact mayors are having on protecting the environment for future generations.
Starting at 12 noon ET today there will be two Zoom events featuring these award-winning mayors and their initiatives. The events are open to media. The first session at 12 noon ET will feature the large city winners (cites of 100,000+ population). To register, see here. The small city winners (cities below 100,000 population) will be featured at 2 pm ET. To register, see here.
«Mayors Peduto and Cantor show us how local leadership is delivering cost-effective solutions to the growing climate challenges before our cities, our nation and the world,» said USCM President Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. «The innovation and creativity of these mayors and the other award winners will hopefully inspire other mayors, as well as all our federal partners, to join us in taking climate action.»
«The really exciting part of the Western Pennsylvania Energy Consortium is that it has brought together a critical mass of energy users to reshape our region’s energy future,» said Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto. «This broad partnership saves money for our taxpayers, creates local clean energy jobs and reduces our carbon use, today and into the future.»
«In West Hartford, we strive to employ forward thinking and best practices to improve the quality of life for our residents; this includes accelerating the development of locally-based clean, renewable energy,» said West Hartford Mayor Shari Cantor. «When we started, ‘Virtual Net Metering’ was a new concept to us, but we learned quickly about its many benefits and we embraced it. We are saving money, cutting carbon emissions, and hopefully providing a ‘best practice’ for others in supporting their local climate action.»
«We commend these mayors and all of the awardees for sustaining their climate efforts and commitments during this most challenging year,» said Amy Hill, Senior Director for Walmart. «Amidst this pandemic and all of its disruption and varied impacts, the successful efforts of these mayors are even more impressive given the many challenges before their cities, including climate protection.»
«President-elect Biden has rightly pledged to make climate protection a top priority of his new Administration, and mayors stand ready to join with him to meet the climate challenges before all of us,» said Tom Cochran, USCM CEO and Executive Director. «Mayors have a record of success in taking climate action at the local level and have urged greater federal engagement and commitments on climate protection to bolster and expand upon what mayors are already doing.»
