ROME, Jan. 29, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Families looking to live history this summer and onward will enjoy the five-star Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese’s new Roman Culture Experience. Special exclusive activities included range from a tea party with a real princess and watercolor painting to an alfresco day trip via e-bike down one of the oldest roads in history. A gelato workshop with views of the Eternal City is also a highlight.

Detailed below is the plethora of activities offered in the experience as well as additional suggestions for other ways families can explore.

Day Al Fresco on the Appian Way:
Dating back to 312 BC, the Appian Way is the first and most important of the great roads built by the Ancient Romans and known for its rich collection of ancient treasures, archaeological remains, and ruins. Alongside a private guide, families will see the villa of emperor Maxentius, mausoleum of Cecilia Metella that has been transformed into a medieval fortress over the centuries, and ancient church of Saint Sebastian as well as catacombs, Roman ruins, and much more. After a long and pleasurable ride, families will enjoy a picnic and afternoon of learning watercolors en-plein-air with the guidance of a local artist.

Tea with a Princess:
When it’s time for another dose of history, families can take a hop, skip and a jump across the street to Villa Aurora. The estate is home to the only Caravaggio fresco in the world, Michelangelo’s in the garden and many other oversized pieces of art. Here too is where the lady of the house, Principessa Boncompagni-Ludovisi, will partake in an afternoon tea party passionately retelling the villa’s and family’s history.

Learn to Make Gelato:
Back at the hotel, children can learn how to make Italy’s beloved gelato. Kids will be able to personalize their own aprons and chef hats while they learn how to make traditional Italian gelato, cookies, and waffles. Following the class, children and their parents will have the opportunity to taste what was prepared on the hotel’s Settimo restaurant terrace, overlooking the Roman skyline and Villa Borghese gardens.

More Family-Friendly Activities In Rome:
After partaking in the hotel’s experience, families can venture out on their own into Rome and enjoy other optional family-friendly activities. Available at an additional cost, such options suggested are horticulture at Villa Borghese, gladiator school, Italian lessons, Castel Sant‘Angelo and a walking tour of Via dei Coronari. The street is located in the historic center of Rome, surrounded by ancient mosaics and Roman architecture. The road, flanked by buildings built in the 15th and the 16th century, is one of the most picturesque roads of the old city, having maintained the character of an Italian Renaissance street.
