SARNIA, Ontario, Feb. 8, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Parking BOXX, the North American-based parking systems manufacturer and software developer, announced the recipient of the 2020 Parking Solutions Scholarship for Technical Innovation in Parking Solutions.

The scholarship was awarded to Kimberly Taylor, whose essay described a «parking dream» from the perspective of a busy student, employee, housewife & mother of daughters ages two and 14-months. Her proposed solution incorporates enhancements to existing search functionality to improve convenience by routing the driver to available parking prior to the driver’s final destination. Mrs. Taylor is studying Business Administration at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, which is a polytechnic institute in Canada.

Mrs. Taylor’s essay was selected for the award because she captured the essence of frequently encountered issues that may be exacerbated by circumstances. Her proposed solution builds upon existing technologies to improve usability and convenience. Mrs. Taylor stated, «I answered based on what would make these experiences easier for me as a mother with my two girls on a time crunch.»

«The pain points in this essay are frequently encountered by vehicle drivers. The proposed solution elegantly provides a value-add to the driver as well as the parking operator.» said Renee Smith, Parking BOXX’s CTO, «This concept is well-aligned with Parking BOXX’s integration strategy.»

This marks the fourth year that Parking BOXX has offered the international scholarship. To apply, students submit an essay of 500-words that focuses on identifying a problem related to parking and outlining their solution. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a student who presents the most innovative, yet practical solution for making parking more user-friendly, efficient, or otherwise enhanced. Students must be enrolled, or due to be enrolled, in a program at an accredited graduate school, university or college, vocational school, technical school, or community college.

In 2020, over 470 applications were received, which is more than a 50% increase over the prior year’s submissions. Students proposed a variety of solutions: from parking robots to garage design improvements, to shared vehicles or the elimination of vehicles altogether. This year, there was a notable focus on addressing the expense of educational parking as well as the stress that parking causes students.

The scholarship program initially launched in 2017 to foster creativity and problem-solving from the point of view of the student, who is typically a younger demographic with fresh and unique perspective. As the need for innovative solutions in parking continues, Parking BOXX wishes to support an emerging class of solution-oriented professionals.

Parking BOXX would like to thank all of this year’s applicants for their creative and thought provoking essays. We were pleased by the overwhelming global response. The Parking Solutions Scholarship is now open for 2021!

Radicle and Well Done Foundation Partner to Plug 30 Orphaned Oil Wells in Montana this Year, Setting the Stage to Expand the WDF Initiative Throughout North America

Radicle to Fund WDF’s Campaign through Sale of Carbon Offsets, Creating a Scalable Template

CALGARY, AB, Feb. 8, 2021 /PRNewswire/ – Today, Radicle Group Inc. (Radicle) and Well Done Foundation Inc. (WDF) signed an agreement that helps finance and complete the plugging of 30 orphaned oil wells in Northern Montana, while creating a template to expand the WDF model to a much larger scale, according to WDF founder and Chairman Curtis Shuck.

Radicle will underpin the plugging of the wells and the restoration of land surrounding them in advance through the sale of carbon offsets; the scale of the project will provide a template to expand WDF’s mission throughout North America. As part of the agreement, Radicle will have the exclusive rights to market and sell carbon credits that fund the WDF’s projects.

«This strategic partnership will provide the Well Done Foundation with the game-changing resources to scale up more quickly,» Shuck said. «We are currently expanding our operations to Kansas, Texas, Colorado, California, Pennsylvania, New York and West Virginia. What may have been seen as a drop in the bucket initially is proving to be making a real difference, one well at a time, because every little bit counts in the bigger picture and actions deliver results.»

Both organizations recognize the significant environmental benefits of completing this work: there are currently 3.2 million nonproducing oil and gas wells in the US alone, all open and emitting thousands of metric tonnes of carbon and methane each year. To put it in perspective, each open well can emit as much carbon annually as 1,500 cars.

«At Radicle, we are motivated to leave the planet better than we found it, and this is why we partnered with Well Done Foundation,» Radicle President Alastair Handley said. «This partnership is solving a critical environmental threat at scale in an entrepreneurial way. By leveraging the value of carbon credits, we support the Well Done Foundation to succeed in its cause. This financing of ‘plugging plans’ and orphan well adoption is a key innovative step in our journey together.»

The «Well Done Process» is a multi-step initiative built upon public and private partnerships: the Well Done Foundation identifies a high-emitting orphaned and abandoned oil or gas well and qualifies it through a rigorous measurement and monitoring regiment, bonds it with the regulatory body, and then launches a campaign to raise funds to plug the well and restore the impacted surface areas. Working closely with the surface landowners, WDF develops a «plugging plan» and obtains a permit from the state for the project.

Next, it identifies and designates an «adoptive family» for the orphaned and abandoned well (either a corporate or individual benefactor), selects a team for the downhole and surface work, and executes the project to successful completion.

Radicle specializes in supporting organizations like WDF, and over 3,000 others, to monetize their environmental efforts. In this project, Radicle has been supporting WDF in the development of a carbon offset methodology through the American Carbon Registry (ACR)’s program to create a pathway to monetization for the reduction in emissions.

Radicle works with agriculture, energy, manufacturing, commercial, and financial services to enable planet-positive solutions by increasing efficiency while lowering costs and emissions. We believe that financial and environmental sustainability are two sides of the same coin: balance between the two is possible. Visit radiclebalance.com to learn more.

About the Well Done Foundation

Formed in 2019, the Well Done Foundation enables the oil and gas industry to partner with the conservation community to create an alternative pathway to success that benefits all. The Well Done Process creates a strategic partnership among regulators, surface owners and adoptive parties, leading to a safe and seamless system that provides cost-effective and lasting results that improve the environment while working with the industry in a transparent structure that delivers value to its triple bottom line: community partnerships (people), environmental responsibility (planet), and economic benefits (vitality). Montana’s Golden Triangle Region is home to some of the richest soil and most productive growing acres in the United States. WDF works with its partners to transition the orphaned well sites into their next levels of service. The Conference Board Employment Trends Index™ (ETI) Increased in January

NEW YORK, Feb. 8, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The Conference Board Employment Trends Index™ (ETI) increased in January, the ninth consecutive monthly increase since May of last year. NEW YORK, Feb. 8, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The Conference Board Employment Trends Index™ (ETI) increased in January, the ninth consecutive monthly increase since May of last year. The index now stands at 99.27, up from 98.55 (a downward revision) in December. The index is currently down 10.0 percent from a year ago.

«The Employment Trends Index has been increasing in recent months, with the largest contributing component being the number of jobs in the temporary help industry. Over the next few months, expect some uncertainty around job growth, especially if some potentially adverse COVID-19 developments manifest – namely, the rapid spread of more aggressive virus strains. On the upside, however, by spring we expect strong job growth to resume and continue throughout the remainder of the year,» said Gad Levanon, Head of The Conference Board Labor Markets Institute. «By late spring, we expect that the number of new infections will be significantly lower due to the rollout of vaccinations, possibly prompting businesses to start adding jobs again at an accelerated pace. Most of the job gains are expected in in-person services such as restaurants, hotels, recreation, passenger transportation, and childcare services. Between now and the end of the year, the unemployment rate could drop to about 5 percent.»

January’s increase was driven by positive contributions from five of the eight components. From the largest positive contributor to the smallest, the components were: Number of Employees Hired by the Temporary-Help Industry; Ratio of Involuntarily Part-time to All Part-time Workers; Industrial Production; Percentage of Firms With Positions Not Able to Fill Right Now; and Job Openings.

The Employment Trends Index is a leading composite index for employment. Turning points in the index indicate that a turning point in employment is about to occur in the coming months. The Employment Trends Index aggregates eight leading indicators of employment, each of which has proven accurate in its own area. Aggregating individual indicators into a composite index filters out «noise» to show underlying trends more clearly.

The eight leading indicators of employment aggregated into the Employment Trends Index include:

  • Percentage of Respondents Who Say They Find «Jobs Hard to Get» (The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Survey®)
  • Initial Claims for Unemployment Insurance (U.S. Department of Labor)
  • Percentage of Firms With Positions Not Able to Fill Right Now (© National Federation of Independent Business Research Foundation)
  • Number of Employees Hired by the Temporary-Help Industry (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)
  • Ratio of Involuntarily Part-time to All Part-time Workers (BLS)
  • Job Openings (BLS)**
  • Industrial Production (Federal Reserve Board)*
  • Real Manufacturing and Trade Sales (U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis)**

*Statistical imputation for the recent month
**Statistical imputation for two most recent months

The Conference Board publishes the Employment Trends Index monthly, at 10 a.m. ET, on the Monday that follows each Friday release of the Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Situation report. The technical notes to this series are available on The Conference Board website: http://www.conference-board.org/data/eti.cfm.

Thriving Giant Tortoise Population Discovered at Galapagos Volcano

WASHINGTON, Feb. 8, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Researchers with the Giant Tortoise Restoration Initiative (GTRI) on an expedition to Alcedo Volcano in the northern part of Isabela Island, Galapagos, recently conducted a complete census of the tortoise population there (‘Chelonoidis vandenburghi’), resulting in population estimates far surpassing what was expected for this species. A total of 4,723 individual tortoises were located and marked, and scientists on the expedition noted the remarkable recovery of the region’s habitat overall following the eradication of destructive feral goats in 2006.

The area of the volcano covered during the expedition was concentrated to the summit and eastern and southern slopes of Alcedo Volcano, between 1,300-3,700 feet above sea level, as well as the interior of the caldera — where approximately 90% of the tortoise population is located due to the availability of food in these areas. Washington Tapia, Director of the GTRI for Galapagos Conservancy and leader of the expedition, confirmed that crews marked 1,745 females, 1,794 males and 1,184 juveniles. Data suggest that this is a healthy population: in nature, a population of such a large size, with many older as well as younger individuals, and that has one male for each female — as is the case of the Alcedo volcano tortoises — is considered a completely viable population.

«Although we have much data yet to process, I estimate that the population exceeds 12-15,000 tortoises total in this region,» Tapia said.

Other positive data from the expedition include the discovery of two new tortoise nesting areas located on a northwestern plateau and on an eastern slope.

Danny Rueda, director of the Galapagos National Park Directorate (GNPD), indicated that the expedition revealed that this is the population of giant tortoises in the best condition in Galapagos. However, it is not free of threats, as invasive species such as rats and feral cats were also found.

«Finding such a large number of tortoises on Alcedo Volcano confirms that the management programs implemented in that environment have been successful. The eradication of goats and donkeys in 2006 has allowed the giant tortoise population here to flourish. In addition, abundant vegetation was found, which guarantees a permanent source of food for this species,» added Rueda.

As a result of the management actions implemented by the GNPD and its collaborators during the last six decades, Galapagos is likely home to around 60,000 giant tortoises including populations of the different species — a number that, according to Tapia, is still low considering that more than 200,000 tortoises were removed from the Archipelago in previous centuries.

About Galapagos Conservancy: For the past 35 years, Galapagos Conservancy has helped protect the unique biodiversity and ecosystems of Galapagos by supporting research, conservation, outreach, and building a sustainable society. Galapagos Conservancy is the only US-based organization focused on protecting the Galapagos archipelago. The Giant Tortoise Restoration Initiative is a collaborative effort of Galapagos Conservancy, Inc. and the Galapagos National Park Directorate.

DALLAS, Feb. 8, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Belltown Power Texas («Belltown»), a leading developer of utility-scale solar projects, has completed development and sale of five projects adding up to 750MW during the course of 2020, which brings the total Belltown track record to 930MW. Belltown specializes in greenfield development of projects, starting with site identification and navigating interconnection, real estate, permitting, environmental, tax and all other development items to bring these projects to ready-to-build.

Early in the year, Belltown closed on a transaction with an investment partner for a portfolio of three contracted projects totaling 330MW in the ERCOT North Zone, including ~250MW of busbar offtake with Rayburn Country Electric Cooperative, Inc. and an ~80MW north-hub settled offtake with Vistra Corp. Belltown continued to support these projects through COD –two facilities are already online and the third one is expected to be placed in service in the next two months. «We are very proud of this transaction that exemplifies the ability of our company to bring projects from greenfield all the way to operations,» said Lloyd Pope, President of Belltown Power Texas.

Following this successful closing, Belltown worked exclusively with a large strategic investor on the sale of a ~360MW project in Denton County, completing the transaction in August. Later in the year, Belltown teamed up with Adapture Renewables, Inc. to work on the sale of a 65MW project in Hunt County (Adapture Renewables as the buyer), contracted with another busbar PPA with Rayburn Country Electric Cooperative.

Together with a 180MW project in Falls County sold in 2019 to a subsidiary of Ecoplexus, Inc., the 2020 transactions bring the total track record of projects that Belltown developed and sold to 930MW. «Belltown has come a long way since inception in 2017, building a strong team that has proven its ability to identify, develop, and transact on solar projects in ERCOT; approaching 1GW is a milestone that motivates us to continue striving for excellence in our development activities,» added Lloyd Pope.

As we start 2021, Belltown is currently working on the sale of another ~870MW of projects, all of which are expected to close in the first half of this year.

Belltown Power Texas continues to be a leader in the North ERCOT market with a strong track record of delivering quality projects from greenfield through to ready-to-build. Belltown has a large and growing pipeline of additional projects and is proud to contribute to the de-carbonization of the energy matrix in ERCOT.

About Belltown Power Texas

Belltown Power Texas, LLC is a developer of solar photovoltaic and storage projects in ERCOT, with a geographic focus in the North and South Zones of the state. It is currently advancing the development of a large pipeline of projects to be delivered into the grid over the next three years. Guests of honour officiate the opening ceremony for the first-phase launch of The Londoner Macao Monday at the integrated resort’s Crystal Palace atrium.

An artist’s rendering shows the exterior of The Londoner Macao, which opened its first phase Monday. Opening progressively throughout the year, coming attractions include the imposing Houses of Parliament facade and life-size 96-metre Elizabeth Tower, featuring a replica of the famous Big Ben clock face, which will welcome guests with its accurate rendition of the classic bell chimes.

The Londoner Macao is Sands China’s bold British-themed reimagining of the Sands® Cotai Central integrated resort. Offering the best of British history and culture alongside a traditional yet contemporary hospitality experience, The Londoner Macao will continue to open progressively throughout 2021.

A highlight of Monday’s opening event was the venue itself – the ornate and elegant main lobby, dubbed the Crystal Palace. Designed in classic Victorian style, the glass and iron atrium features a 33-metre-high stained-glass ceiling that bathes the lobby in sunlight during the day and provides a panoramic view of the night sky after dark. Victorian-era lampposts line the patterned dark marble floor, whose centrepiece is the full-scale Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain featuring Anteros, the Greek god of selfless love, on its pinnacle.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd., said: «We believe The Londoner Macao, like The Venetian and The Parisian before it, will become an instant, iconic landmark in Macao. It is evidence of Mr. Adelson’s unwavering vision for the development of Sands China and the company’s commitment to invest in Macao. As a company firmly rooted in Macao, Sands China is proud to unveil The Londoner Macao as part of our continuing contribution to the transformation of Macao into a world centre of tourism and leisure. Our sincere thanks go to the Central People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Macao SAR government for their continued leadership and support, and to all our community partners for their cooperation and collaboration through the years.»

In addition to the Crystal Palace, the first-phase launch features new dining options, interactive London-themed attractions, and the opening of The Londoner Hotel – an all-suite tower featuring approximately 600 luxury suites.

Designed by Hong Kong-based Steve Leung Design Group, suite interiors are bright and contemporary with an upscale British ambiance, and feature marble nightstands, custom beds with plush fabric headboards, elegant chesterfield sofas, high-backed leather armchairs, and Victorian-style bathtubs.

The hotel’s top two floors incorporate 14 exclusive Suites by David Beckham, Macao’s first celebrity-designed hotel rooms, which launch later in 2021. Created by Sands Resorts Macao global ambassador David Beckham in collaboration with leading London interior design firm David Collins Studio, the suites capture the essence of a high-end London homestead, offering guests a unique luxury experience that provides warmth and charm.

Beckham commented: «The Londoner Macao is another exceptional property by Sands. Everything has been created so guests have the best experience possible and the attention to detail is like no other. This integrated resort feels very personal to me and being part of the development has been an incredible project – not only is it bringing my home town to Macao, but also the first David Beckham Suites. I can’t wait to be back in Macao to see it all – it looks spectacular.»

The 65-member Macau Youth Orchestra performed at Monday’s ceremony, as did the Sands China Choir, who sang an acapella rendition of one of the most recognisable British tunes of the last century, Queen’s operatic rock hit Bohemian Rhapsody.

The event also featured a video tribute in honour of company founder Sheldon G. Adelson, who passed away last month.

Monday’s opening ceremony was officiated by Mr. Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Mr. Lei Wai Nong, Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR; Ms. Yan Zhichan, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Ms. Wang Dong, Acting Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR; Ms. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office; Mr. Adriano Marques Ho, Director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region; Dr. Wilfred Wong, President of Sands China Ltd.; Mr. Grant Chum, Chief Operating Officer of Sands China Ltd.; and Mr. Antonio Ferreira, Managing Director of Venetian Macau Limited.

The Fog Warning – The Yachting Industry’s First Carbon-Neutral Yacht Dealer

WESTHAMPTON, N.Y., Feb. 8, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The Fog Warning of Westhampton NY, the exclusive US yacht dealer for Holland’s <a target="_blank"…

WESTHAMPTON, N.Y., Feb. 8, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The Fog Warning of Westhampton NY, the exclusive US yacht dealer for Holland’s Long Island Yachts and Hartman Yachts, announces a responsible and groundbreaking marine industry first:

They will provide complete carbon-neutral yacht use to their owners for as long as they own their yachts.

This dealer initiative comes from a sense of gratitude and responsibility, says Fog Warning owner Dave Mallach:

«Recreational yachting provides families with some of their most cherished experiences. It’s clear to us that the quality of those experiences directly depend upon the quality of our marine environments. Living, playing and working on the water, we see every day how our environment is changing. We see it with rising water levels at our docks and with more extreme weather patterns inshore and off

The implications of this, Dave adds, have grown even more personal and immediate:

«Sadly, the stakes now extend beyond our recreational life. The link between climate change and the rise and spread of pandemics is become increasingly clear. Our industry has a responsibility to do all we can to guarantee safe, quality yachting experiences for our owners, and for subsequent generations of yachtsmen and woman.»

The Fog Warning’s offer of carbon-neutral yacht ownership revolves around their purchase of carbon credits (on their owners behalf) that fully offset the carbon released into the environment by their diesel engines.

Remarkably, these credits will apply to any new or brokerage yacht purchased from the dealership, for as long as the owner keeps their yacht.

«It’s not a difficult program to manage,» says Dave. «We ask our owners to send us their fuel receipts at the end of their boating year. We then purchase sufficient carbon credits to offset the entirety of their use. It’s a complete win-win solution.»

As for the credits, The Fog Warning’s particular focus is on programs relating to healthy marine environments. For example, they support The Ocean Foundation’s project Sea Grass Grow. By planting and nurturing coastal sea grass acreage, shorelines are preserved and additional carbon is naturally absorbed.

Dave reports that he was in part inspired by his admiration for Dutch yachts, and Holland’s long nautical heritage.

«The Fog Warning’s motto comes from the joke «If it ain’t Dutch, in ain’t much.» We specializes in Dutch yachts of the highest quality. The partnerships we have formed with Long Island Yachts and Hartman Yachts have sensitized us to Holland’s unique vulnerability to climate change, with most of the country at or below sea level. Boating in Holland has given me a far greater appreciation for the threats to our local waters, whether they be Barnegat Bay, the Chesapeake, or the Florida Keys.»

The Fog Warning hopes to influence the industry as a whole:

«We are proud to step up and do what we can for our owners, and for future generations of boaters as well. I genuinely believe that in time others in our industry will suit,» says Dave, who adds:

«While we are pleased to be the first carbon-neutral builder in the industry, nothing would make us happier to know that we are far from the last.»

The Fog Warning, the exclusive dealer for Holland’s Long Island Yachts and Hartman Yachts, specializes in selling some of the finest yachts afloat, wherever built. The Fog Warning Blog, with 10,000 annual readers, devotes itself to long-form, high-value yachting content.  The Fog Warning Podcast aims to set the industry standard for this new and exciting platform.
