Blue Shield is applying a one-time premium credit to bills issued for the month of November or December for its fully-insured employer customers. Premium credits will also be applied to November bills for people enrolled in Blue Shield dental and/or vision plans, plus those enrolled in Blue Shield’s Medicare Supplement plans.

Exterior Design

Enveloped in striking matte finish, the MDX Prototype, shown in both Liquid Carbon and Performance Red, makes a bold statement with its more dynamic and muscular design. The upright grille and long, sculpted hood convey power and presence and are anchored to an even lower and wider body with bulging shoulders and a greenhouse set further back, enabling a 6-inch increase in dash-to-axle dimension.

Signature elements of Acura’s next-generation design language are elegantly integrated with the new more premium and athletic form of MDX, including a three-dimensional Diamond Pentagon grille flanked by four-element JewelEye® LED headlights, underscored by Chicane™ LED daytime running lights, inspired by the Acura ARX-05 race car. The front fascia has been sculpted to highlight the wide grille, integrating fog light housings under side vents that further emphasize the new MDX’s wider track.

Daniel DeSantis, Esq., Senior Trial Attorney at Wilshire Law Firm, is representing the deceased boy’s mother, Kenya Taylor, who is the plaintiff in the wrongful death case.

The lawsuit alleges that Martin-Brand beat the boy to death and that the school district is liable because it committed negligence in their hiring, training, and retention of the former employee. Martin-Brand previously coached sports and supervised other activities through the «Beyond the Bell» after-school program at Normandie Avenue Elementary School.

The complaint states that prior to the fatal incident, Martin-Brand would take the boy away from other students and school employees and be in isolation with him. According to reporting by ABC News, community activists are saying that others have come forward stating that the former LAUSD employee was also violent with their children.

The complaint also alleges that the school district knew or should have known about Martin-Brand’s abusive conduct against children, and it failed to prevent the student’s death by not implementing the appropriate safety measures.

The boy’s mother is seeking damages on a number of grounds, including wrongful death, for funeral and burial expenses, and the loss of Dayvon’s love, companionship, comfort, care, assistance, protection, affection, society, and moral support.

BACKGROUND:

This Christmas stamp features a detail of «Our Lady of Guápulo.» Painted in the 18th century by an unknown artist in Cuzco, Peru, «Our Lady of Guápulo» is from the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Enrobed in a pyramidal gown speckled with jewels and holding a scepter woven with roses and leaves, a crowned Virgin Mary looks down at a similarly adorned Christ Child in her left arm. A red rosary ropes across the center of her dress and down to her right.

Art director Greg Breeding designed the stamp.

It is being issued as a Forever stamp, which will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price.

In different times, «Happy New Year» – sung by Agnetha Fältskog with back-ups from Anni-Frid (Frida) Lyngstad – would have been released as a worldwide single, but ABBA, conscious of never short-changing their fans, had already released two singles from Super Trouper, with a third on its way (the title track, «The Winner Takes It All» and «Lay All Your Love On Me»); so it remained the opener of the album’s second side. It was only ever issued at the time of release as a single in Argentina (in its Spanish language version, «Felicidad,» included here as the B-side). It has, like so many songs within ABBA’s cherished catalog, become a standard.

Written by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson on a break in Barbados in January 1980, «Happy New Year» is a perfect capture of ABBA’s bittersweet magic. Originally intended to feature as part of a musical set around New Year’s Eve, on one hand, it is a rousing anthem of hope for the future; yet with its lines «the dreams we had before are all dead, nothing more than confetti on the floor,» it not only reflected the inner turmoil within the group at that time, but also the wider wistfulness and mixed emotions people experience with the passage of time, accelerated at the changing of a year.

Yet it is hope that prevails: «May we all have a vision now and then, of a world where every neighbour is a friend,» Agnetha sings in the chorus. Although 40 years old, these words are more appropriate than ever. Ulvaeus said presciently in 2011, «However ominous things may look, what characterizes mankind is that we move forward, no matter what: against all odds, we soldier on. And deep inside I think we’ll get through the current situation. I don’t think that mankind has had its time on earth.»

Little Free Library Promotes Equity, Inclusion with Diverse Books in Communities Around the World

Kicking off in Minneapolis, this summer’s origin of social unrest, Read in Color will distribute books that provide perspectives on racism and social justice, celebrate BIPOC and LGBTQ voices, and incorporate experiences from all identities for all readers.

«Little Free Library believes everyone should be able to see themselves in the pages of a book,» said LFL Executive Director Greig Metzger. «We also believe awareness of diverse life experiences can help break down barriers and nurture a deeper understanding of our society’s inequities.»

Equity and inclusion are long-held values at LFL, but following George Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis—not far from LFL’s Hudson, Wis. office—the nonprofit vowed to do more to raise awareness. This summer LFL held book giveaways, highlighting diverse authors; hosted inclusive celebrity story-time videos with PBS Kids; and promoted stewards filling little libraries with diverse books, like Sarah Kamya in Arlington, Mass.

Read in Color extends these efforts through four key components:

  • Read in Color pledge. LFL stewards and patrons worldwide can sign a pledge to read and share diverse books. Pledges have access to resources, like bookmarks and a Read in Color sign for Little Free Library doors.
  • Free diverse books. LFL stewards can apply to receive free diverse books. LFL will purchase books from independent bookstores, BIPOC-owned when possible, or source from publishers. This opportunity is currently available to Twin Cities–area stewards only, but everyone is invited to enter a giveaway to win one of 200 copies of All Because You Matter by Tami Charles and Bryan Collier, sponsored by Scholastic.
  • Little Free Library installations. LFL will establish new little libraries filled with culturally relevant books in high-need communities, beginning in the Twin Cities and expanding nationally. The first was unveiled on Oct. 14 at Urban Ventures, a Minneapolis nonprofit working to end poverty.
  • Recommended reading lists. Book lists representing Black, Indigenous, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Muslim and LGBTQ communities are available for all readers. Advisors including We Need Diverse Books; The Brown Bookshelf; indigenous scholar Debbie Reese; and author and LFL steward Roxane Gay helped shape these lists.

LFL received invaluable support from Minneapolis-based creative agency Colle McVoy to develop and launch the Read in Color initiative.

With more than 100,000 Little Free Libraries in urban, suburban and rural locations in all 50 United States and beyond, LFL believes Read in Color will help amplify diverse voices at a grassroots, community level.

Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Motors Corporation and Hyundai Mobis Co. each held extraordinary board meetings today to discuss the inauguration. All members of the boards unanimously endorsed the inauguration of Euisun Chung as the new Chairman of the Group.
