CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., Jan. 30, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Conshohocken Mayor Yaniv Aronson is proud of what has been accomplished since he took office in 2018 and excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. «Conshohocken is energetic, vibrant and evolving,» Aronson said. «My role has been to help ensure that nobody is left behind and that all residents feel heard and represented.»

Aronson is a public-school teacher and Instructor at the Montgomery County Community College, a calling that he believes helps in his duties as an elected official.

«Being an effective mayor requires working collaboratively with council and borough staff, much as I have to do in a school setting. Nothing happens in a vacuum,» added Aronson. «I have a strong relationship with our council members, borough administration and our emergency services, and those discussions have yielded real results for residents.»

In his initial run for mayor, Aronson highlighted safety as a major area of focus. «Safety is my top priority,» he shared. «I wanted to help bring major changes to Conshohocken and I believe those have happened on a number of fronts. Working with the state, PennDOT and using resources within the borough, we have new traffic lights and pedestrian crossings at 1st, 3rd, 9th and 11th Avenues along Fayette, the West 6th Avenue stop sign was made permanent, and the 300 and 400 blocks of West 6th were narrowed and realigned with new road markings. Additionally, new lighted pedestrian signal crossings are coming at 4th and 7th Avenues along Fayette

The county and SEPTA have also been a source of major pedestrian improvements within the borough. «We have seen safety upgrades along the trail with new signage, paving, line-painting and lighting at road crossings. The crossings along SEPTA’s tracks were also painted bright yellow for increased visibility. The Schuylkill River Trail is of particular importance to me. It is where I met my wife, Sarah, and I even proposed to her there!»

Aronson hopes to bring more pedestrian safety improvements to Conshohocken, whether through borough services, the county or the state.

As a major second priority, Aronson has worked to bring a spirit of service and volunteerism to Conshohocken. «I decided to run for mayor three years ago because I was involved with our local nonprofits,» he said. «I wanted to do more for the community and on a larger scale.»

In 2019, Yaniv and Sarah started Destination Conshohocken, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to local causes. «We have a wonderful team of volunteers who have helped us provide everything from the Annual Conshohocken Arts Festival and Car Show, clothing and food drives, as well as virtual events during the pandemic for the community.»

Providing mental health resources for residents has also been a major initiative. Sarah Aronson organizes yearly panel discussions for suicide awareness and prevention. The first included members of the business community, the Conshohocken Police Force, local teachers and experts in the field. Sarah also provides quarterly suicide loss survivor support groups and QPR suicide prevention trainings, while working with local organizations such as the Peyton Heart Project and the Montgomery County Suicide Prevention Taskforce to help include as many residents as possible. «The idea is to make suicide a subject that we can talk about as friends and neighbors, and I believe Conshohocken is now a regional and county leader for these conversations and related programming,» said Sarah Aronson.

The environment has been another area of tremendous progress thanks to collaboration with borough council, residents and borough administration. «We now have full-sized recycling bins which helps encourage the community to recycle. We updated our recycling graphic to make it easier to read and the Shade Tree Team planted more than 40 trees in 2019, with plans for more in 2020 before the pandemic hit,» added Yaniv Aronson.

Additionally, the borough runs classes about the lanternfly invasion and provides resources for helping residents manage these pests. Perhaps the most important development of all is the passage of the «Ready for 100%» resolution by council, setting Conshohocken on a path toward energy sustainability by 2035.» Again, we see Conshohocken as a leader in this critical work. I hope to continue working on environmental issues, and solutions, for residents.»

Most recently, Aronson started the «Conshy Strong» initiative during the COVID-19 pandemic to help bring together the community, residents, businesses and nonprofits, as well as support Conshohocken’s local food pantry, Colonial Neighborhood Council.

«The last three years have been a true honor,» he said. «I love being able to serve my community both as a teacher and as mayor. The quarantine has been one of the hardest times I have experienced professionally and in my personal life. Helping us to manage the pandemic and then recover even stronger will be the biggest challenge of 2021 and beyond.»

BEIJING, Jan. 30, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The Unit 5 of China’s Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant, the world’s first Demonstration project to adopt China’s indigenous Generation III nuclear power technology Hualong One, also known as HPR1000, was put into commercial operation, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) announced on Jan. 30th.

The success marks a milestone for the development of China’s nuclear power, making China the fourth country to master its indigenous Generation III nuclear power technology following the US, France and Russia.

Hualong One is CNNC’s Generation III nuclear power technology with complete independent intellectual property rights, developed and designed by the corporation on the basis of more than 30 years of nuclear power research, design, manufacturing, construction and operation experiences.

Yu Jianfeng, chairman of CNNC, said that the corporation will accelerate the progress of mass constructing Hualong One reactors and developing new series technologies in a bid to promote the Hualong One to export and achieve the target of carbon neutrality.

Since the start of construction on the world’s first Hualong One reactor, the project has progressed as planned and the safety and quality of it have been well under control.

With a design life of 60 years, Hualong One reactor adopts a 177-reactor core design that refueling the fuel every 18 months. It innovatively uses a combination of «active and passive» safety systems and a double-shell containment, which meets the latest international nuclear safety requirements.

The installed capacity of each Hualong One unit reaches nearly 1200 MWe, and each unit is able to generate nearly 10 billion kWh of electricity annually, meeting the demand of 1 million population within a moderately developed country.

The electricity generated by a Hualong One unit is an equivalent to reducing the consumption of 3.12 million tons of standard coal and emission of 8.16 million tons of carbon dioxide annually, as well as an equivalent to plantation of over 70 million trees annually.

PARK RIDGE, Ill., Jan. 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — (AANA) — In honor of National CRNA Week (Jan. 24-30, 2021), Reps. David Joyce (R-OH) and Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) introduced bipartisan House Resolution 65 on the House floor, «Recognizing the roles and the contributions of America’s Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and their critical role in providing quality health care for the public, especially during the ongoing COVID–19 pandemic.»

«I was honored to introduce this resolution alongside my fellow Nursing Caucus Co-Chair to recognize the contributions of our nation’s certified registered nurse anesthetists and their role in providing quality healthcare for the American people,» said Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14). «Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard and I are truly grateful for all that CRNAs do to ensure the highest levels of patient safety in anesthesia care. Their work has a critical impact in bringing down healthcare costs and increasing access to care.»

«Since the start of the pandemic, tens of thousands of CRNAs and student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs) have cared for critically ill patients. We are appreciative of the recognition the House of Representatives’ resolution brings to the profession,» said American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) President Steven M. Sertich, CRNA, MAE, JD, Esquire.  «You will find CRNAs in every possible practice setting. We provide anesthesia for traditional hospital surgical suites and obstetrical delivery rooms, critical access hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, Veterans Affairs hospitals, pain management facilities, and in our nation’s military service branches.

In addition to the congressional resolution, Richard A. Stone, MD, the acting under secretary for health, Veterans Health Administration (VHA), issued a statement thanking CRNAs for their service to our Veterans, during the pandemic and beyond.

«CRNAs have always been essential colleagues in our care for Veterans. In April we issued guidance to allow CRNAs to have full practice authority within the scope of their license,» the statement read. «This allowed CRNAs in certain states to practice without the supervision of a physician. This has led to more access to care for Veterans.»

According to the statement, nearly 1,100 CRNAs work across the VHA system, including 131 hired since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

«Last year the world changed, and CRNAs and SRNAs were faced with a public health disaster not seen in 100 years.  Their unique skills and expertise have allowed them to step forward in ways that few others can, particularly in advanced airway and ventilation management, vascular volume resuscitation, and advanced patient assessment,» said President Sertich. «As highly educated, advanced practice registered nurses, CRNAs have the important role of keeping patients safe and advocating on a patient’s behalf—making CRNAs an imperative and affordable member of a patient’s healthcare team.»

Every year across the United States, CRNAs administer nearly 50 million anesthetics. The AANA established CRNA Week in 2000 to educate the public about anesthesia safety and the benefits of receiving anesthesia care from CRNAs. During National CRNA Week, nurse anesthetists will be educating patients, coworkers, and others about their profession.

Company will pay civil penalty and provide funds to local school district to purchase new, efficient school buses to reduce pollution and protect the environment

BANNOCKBURN, Ill., Jan. 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ – Stericycle, Inc. today announced it has entered into a settlement agreement with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to settle a civil investigation into alleged air emission exceedances at its North Salt Lake, Utah, incineration facility that occurred more than seven years ago between September 2012 and May 2013.

As part of the settlement, Stericycle will contribute $2 million to support a Supplemental Environmental Project to replace older, higher-emitting school buses in the Davis County School District and will pay a civil penalty of $600,000 to the United States government. Since vehicles are one of the leading causes of air pollution, the Supplemental Environmental Project will improve air quality in the area and aligns with Stericycle’s core purpose of protecting people, promoting health and safeguarding the environment.

The settlement with EPA follows an administrative settlement with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, which conducted its own investigation into the alleged exceedances and issued a Notice of Violation in 2014, the first and only citation for an emissions violation experienced in the facility’s history.

Stericycle previously elected to cease incineration operations at the facility and relocate to a more suitable site. While incineration will cease in July 2022, this site will continue to be owned and operated by Stericycle as a collection and transportation facility.

Since 2014, the company has implemented a number of improvements at the facility, including new air pollution control equipment that has lowered emission levels beyond the already stringent limits for Hospital, Medical, Infectious Waste Incinerators. Results from two separate, independent Utah Department of Health studies have demonstrated that emissions from the facility present no health risk to the surrounding community.

Stericycle, under new leadership, has aggressively pursued improvements to its compliance program over the past several years across the entire company, including significant investments in team member training programs, new facility equipment, the development of expanded standard operating procedures, internal and external auditing programs, and other tools for environmental compliance management.

Stericycle is thankful that this matter has been concluded and looks forward to continuing to support the healthcare community in the greater Salt Lake region.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — America’s mayors are using their voices to demand Congress finally take action to support cities by passing the fiscal relief for local governments included in President Biden’s American Rescue Plan. A letter to Congress now has 402 signatures from mayors all across America, in cities big and small, and the number continues to climb. With Republican, Democrat and Independent mayors alike, the group represents the millions of Americans whose local governments have been decimated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The strength and depth of support is a reflection of just how dire the situation is in many cities, where local leaders are having to make painful budget decisions including layoffs, furloughs, and cuts to critical services. The full text of the letter is below and the 402 names supporting it can be found here.

Dear Speaker Pelosi, Leader Schumer, Leader McCarthy and Leader McConnell:

On behalf of The United States Conference of Mayors, we urge you to take immediate action on comprehensive coronavirus relief legislation, including providing direct fiscal assistance to all cities, which is long overdue. President Biden’s American Rescue Plan contains such assistance as part of an aggressive strategy to contain the virus, increase access to life-saving vaccines, and create a foundation for sustainable and inclusive recovery.

American cities and our essential workers have been serving at the frontlines of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic for nearly a year. We have been charged with executing herculean public health efforts and an unprecedented emergency response. Despite immense fiscal pressure, your local government partners oversaw those efforts, while trying to maintain essential services and increase our internal capacity to provide support for residents and businesses who have been crippled by a tanking economy.

And yet, as the economic engines of our country, local governments will be relied upon to lead the long-term economic recovery our nation so desperately needs, even as, with few exceptions, cities have been largely left without direct federal assistance. The lack of adequate support has resulted in budget cuts, service reductions, and job losses. Sadly, nearly one million local government jobs have already been lost during the pandemic. Our essential workers deserve federal relief like any other sector.

The $350 billion in direct relief to state and local governments included in President Biden’s American Rescue Plan would allow cities to preserve critical public sector jobs and help drive our economic recovery. Providing direct, flexible aid to cities is the most efficient and immediate way to help families and their communities who have been suffering for far too long.

Furthermore, cities must be central to a deliberate strategy to accelerate vaccinations throughout the country. We support President Biden’s proposal to mount a national vaccination program and the provision of additional resources to cities to bolster our efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

Your quick action on President Biden’s plan is a crucial step to making meaningful progress in one of the most challenging moments in our country’s history. The United States Conference of Mayors is eager to work with Congress and the incoming Administration to meet this challenge. We encourage you to take up the President’s rescue plan as soon as possible in the 117th Congress.

About the United States Conference of Mayors — The U.S. Conference of Mayors is the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are more than 1,400 such cities in the country today, and each city is represented in the Conference by its chief elected official, the mayor. DUSSELDORF, Germany, Jan. 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Since the dawn of time, mankind has dreamed of grasping the limitless energy of the cosmos. Starting with the conquest of fire, our Promethean urges have allowed us to capture ever-greater portions of the boundless, universal energy that surrounds our fragile planet. Now, with the Neutrino Energy Group’s development of neutrinovoltaic technology, humanity has drawn closer than ever to energetic omnipotence. While still limited in many respects, neutrino energy is the closest thing to green energy our species has ever developed, and the neutrinovoltaic revolution is just getting started.

The neutrinovoltaic devices produced by the Neutrino Energy Group, are emission-free, and they’re constructed with abundant, easily recyclable materials. Neutrino energy technology could simultaneously be the solution to both fossil fuel emissions and the physical waste produced by conventional renewable energy devices. Like wind turbines and solar panels, neutrinovoltaic devices do not directly produce air pollution. Vehicles, for instance, that operate on neutrino power (The PI Automobil) do not produce any exhaust. While conventional battery-operated vehicles are also technically emission-free, their batteries are often recharged by the coal energy grid. As a result, conventional electric cars might produce even more emissions than fossil-fuel vehicles.

Neutrinovoltaic Energy Can Operate Independently of Batteries

Batteries used for renewable energy cause considerable pollution. Since they only produce electrical energy intermittently, solar panels and wind turbines must be paired with battery arrays to make the energy they produce usable. Neutrinovoltaic devices, however, produce an uninterruptible, uniform flow of energy.

As a result, it is not inherently necessary to use batteries with neutrino energy generators. As this technology scales up, neutrinovoltaic devices will need to be paired with batteries to reach maximum effectiveness. Neutrino energy, however, is the only renewable energy technology with the inherent capacity to outgrow its reliance on batteries.

The Neutrino Energy Group Envisions a Cleaner World

The most ardent opponents of pollution insist that human civilization must deindustrialize to prevent ecological catastrophe. Only the Neutrino Energy Group is taking concrete steps in our day and age to make green energy a reality. It may never be possible to devise means of energy production that are truly and completely free, but by developing an energy production technology that relies on the most abundant resources on Earth and in the cosmos, the Neutrino Energy Group is making the energy humanity needs to survive freer than ever before.

Lawsuit Filed Against California Dept Of Fish & Wildlife For Approving Ballona Wetlands Project That Destroys Wildlife Habitat And Ignores Climate Change

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — A lawsuit has been filed by Defend Ballona Wetlands and two individuals, Molly Basler and Robert van de Hoek, in Los Angeles Superior Court, challenging California Department of Fish & Wildlife’s (CDFW) approval of an environmental impact report that would allow for the complete destruction of the fragile Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve, the last wetlands on the Los Angeles coast. This misguided project would mostly benefit SoCalGas, operators of a dangerous gas storage field under the reserve.  Ballona’s approximately 640 acres have been owned by the public since 2003 and are a treasured resource.

«Our Governor’s cabinet members just announced a series of initiatives that support ‘Nature Based Solutions’ to counter climate change. So, how does Governor Newsom justify a project to bulldoze and excavate more than 2.5 million cubic yards of soil, paving the way for a new fossil fuel infrastructure for the aging gas storage field under this ecological reserve?» asked attorney Bryan Pease.

The petitioners claim CDFW failed to respond adequately to comments made by numerous organizations and community members – especially related to climate change and to endangered and other imperiled species at Ballona.

«It’s outrageous CDFW did not address the fact that hundreds of acres, filled with plants, animals and soils, would be destroyed, even though they store   and sequester carbon now.  Protecting carbon in place is crucial.  Yet, their plan would obliterate a mosaic of habitats so that a salt marsh might sequester carbon in 100 years?  We don’t have 100 years!» exclaimed Molly Basler, a Climate Reality Leader, trained by Al Gore, and a candidate for LA City Council.

Wildlife biologist Robert van de Hoek has done field observations at Ballona for 30 years.  He notes concerns raised by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, which are outlined in the lawsuit.

«The State cannot legally dismiss the many documented sightings of endangered species and species on the California List of Species of Special Concern.  The law says they must address those species, and, in many cases, they did not.  The ‘Nature Based Solution’ at Ballona is to protect the landscape, not to experiment with it,» explained van de Hoek.

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — A community environmental group filed a lawsuit today challenging California fish & wildlife officials’ highly controversial approval last month of a project that would bulldoze the cherished Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve, located north of Los Angeles International Airport.  Protect Ballona Wetlands’ petition for writ of mandate asks the Los Angeles Superior Court to set aside all approvals, alleging numerous violations of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The petition alleges that the project proposed was not adequately described, a complaint raised by federal agencies including the US Fish & Wildlife Service.

«In addition to the project description being inaccurate, there are errors with the environmental baseline, and significant new information was disclosed late or not at all, requiring recirculation of the Environmental Impact Report,» explained public interest lawyer Jamie T. Hall.

«Standing out like a sore thumb is the revelation that the engineers who designed this project used the incorrect flood risk standards.  For people living, working or driving near the wetlands, the flood risk standards are very important to get right, especially given concerns about sea level rise on the coast.  The US Army Corps of Engineers decided not to release a final Environmental Impact Statement due to this concern,» continued Hall.

Environmental activist Wendy-Sue Rosen said Protect Ballona Wetlands was formed due to the shocking lack of legitimate information related to flood risk, unacknowledged damage to the environment, and the exorbitant cost of a project clearly detrimental to wildlife.

«This project is estimated to cost the public more than $250 million, and more than $12 million in public funds have already been spent on a design using an incorrect flood risk standard – that’s outrageous!» said Rosen.

Inadequate responses to comments made by the public during the CEQA process is another violation that looms large.

Four members of the Garland family, who provided comments during the one public hearing held for this highly destructive project, have joined Protect Ballona Wetlands.  Their comments, like many others, were mostly dismissed by state officials.

«The Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve is a very special place to me.  There is a vast and varied range of birds that I’ve seen from the Great Blue Heron, Egret, Osprey, Black-crowned Night Heron, White-Tailed Kite, and so many more reliant on this land to survive,» explained Jackson Garland, who spent his 16th birthday testifying at the public hearing convened in November, 2017.
