In English

PUERTO RICO and MASHANTUCKET, Conn. and NEW YORK and MIAMI, Jan. 26, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and LionGrove today announced the formation of a partnership to reopen the historic and iconic El San Juan Casino as the Foxwoods El San Juan Casino. In addition to redeveloping the casino, the two partners are also thrilled to reopen the renowned Tropicoro entertainment venue, welcoming back performers, artists, live entertainment and events once again to its stage.

The new casino will add a $12.5 million investment in addition to a recently completed renovation for the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel, resulting in a total of $137.5 million in resort enhancements. These investments and the opening of the casino are anticipated to generate an estimated economic impact of $22 million back into the island, creating a projected 360 new jobs in the region – over 150 of those being at the casino.

Having originally debuted in the 1960s, the El San Juan became one of the most luxurious and sought after casino destinations in the world, defined by its classic European style, iconic crystal chandeliers and hand-carved, mahogany-paneled walls. Over the years, the Tropicoro stage drew stars such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Martin, Liza Minnelli, Rita Moreno, Paul Anka and many more. The new identity pays homage to the casino’s legendary history in San Juan and Foxwoods Resort Casino, owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and one of the largest resort casinos in North America, named a «Best Casino» by USA Today readers numerous times.

Located in the beachfront Fairmont El San Juan Hotel along the award-winning Isla Verde Beach, the approximately 15,000-square-foot casino will feature well-appointed table games and slot machines with first-class service – complementing the resort’s well-appointed luxury accommodations and amenities.

«Our success and experience with operating Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut will allow us to effectively expand our footprint and bring award-winning gaming experiences to Puerto Rico,» said Rodney Butler, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Chairman. «We’re teaming up with one of the most sophisticated players in the market. Bringing together our resort experience and expertise with Fairmont El San Juan’s renowned brand, we believe we can bring real economic and employment growth to Puerto Rico. In addition to offering guests a one-of-a-kind luxury resort destination, the development will bring revenue, value and tourism to the area.»

«Since acquiring El San Juan Hotel in 2015, we have been zealously committed stewards of this world-renowned luxury lifestyle hospitality landmark. We completed a $65 million renovation of El San Juan Hotel in 2017 and subsequently, following Hurricane Maria, a $60 million restoration that led to its rebranding as the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel in January of 2020. Currently, the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel is more accommodating and exciting than ever, and with this great partnership, we are bringing one of the strongest casino brands in the world to Puerto Rico with plans to launch the most exciting and innovative casino on the island at Puerto Rico’s most legendary address,» said Andro Nodarse-León, LionGrove Founder and CEO.

The Governor of Puerto Rico, Honorable Pedro Pierluisi, joined today’s press conference at the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel where Nodarse-León and Chairman Butler announced plans for the new casino. Honorable Pedro Pierluisi expressed his support of the upcoming project, which will contribute to the economic development of the hotel industry and the general well-being of Puerto Rico: «I am incredibly pleased with the reopening of El San Juan Casino which will result in the creation of hundreds of jobs. The tourism sector represents a great opportunity for our economic development and my commitment is to enhance it. The pandemic has seriously affected tourism on our island, as well as around the world, but with the advent of vaccines, better treatments and security measures, we are preparing so that Puerto Rico can receive visitors and safely enjoy all that our beautiful island has to offer! I am confident the coming months will be crucial, and we will position ourselves positively to resume tourism activity,» Honorable Pedro R Pierluisi.

«Following the completion of Fairmont El San Juan Hotel’s renovation, the launch of Foxwoods El San Juan Casino is the final piece in reactivating our world renowned lobby, a centerpiece of Puerto Rican nightlife and for our Hotel guests,» said Kelley Cosgrove, General Manager, Fairmont El San Juan Hotel. «We are thrilled to be part of the collaboration between two distinguished brands and look forward to attracting new global clientele with this vibrant amenity for our Fairmont El San Juan Hotel guests.»

SunPower plans to launch SPRI presence in seven new markets across six states by the end of Q2 2021.

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 26, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — As demand for solar increases across the country, SunPower (NASDAQ: SPWR), a leading solar technology and energy services provider, is announcing plans to significantly expand its SunPower Residential Installation (SPRI) program this year. SunPower plans to launch SPRI presence in seven new markets across six states by the end of Q2 2021.

SPRI enables local companies and entrepreneurs to create or expand their solar energy companies without the complex and asset-heavy roles often associated with a traditional solar dealer business. With SPRI, sales organizations and small businesses can focus on marketing and selling solar while SunPower manages the entire process of rooftop installation, maintenance and repair, customer service, and warranty. This structure lowers the barrier-to-entry for those that want to enter the fast-growing renewable energy sector, provides new channels for SunPower to meet the demand of its rapidly growing customer base, and gives homeowners more options when buying solar.

Organizations that work with SPRI are part of SunPower’s Non-Installing Dealer network. Non-Installing Dealers get access to the industry’s most advanced platform to market, present, design and sell SunPower® systems to homeowners. SunPower’s turnkey software enables non-installing dealers to customize each project from panel placement to financing options.

«With SPRI we are increasing the size of the solar category by enabling entrepreneurs to create sales and marketing-focused solar businesses,» said Tony Garzolini, VP of Sales at SunPower. «Our strong installing dealer network continues to be the foundation we rely on, but you no longer have to own construction equipment and manage a customer support team to be a part of this incredibly exciting industry.»

In the first quarter of 2021, SunPower will launch SPRI in:

  • Tucson, Ariz.
  • Fresno and the Greater Central Valley, Calif.
  • Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Later this year it will launch in Denver Colo., Raleigh, N.C., and the DC Metro Area. The company plans to hire more than 300 field technicians across these cities in 2021 and to complete twice as many installs year over year.

«The people we serve are our neighbors, friends, and family members who are among those at the greatest risk of experiencing the devastating health and economic effects of the pandemic,» reports Chrysalis President & CEO, Mark Loranger. «Hiring opportunities with the National Health Foundation provide a key that will unlock not just a job that will keep them financially secure during this unsettling time, but also open the door to a new path for their lives.»

Throughout the pandemic, 13 temporary employees have transitioned into full-time roles at National Health Foundation as Guest Service Associates. In this role, they continue to provide support services to guests at NHF’s permanent recuperative care sites in Pico-Union and Mid-City. For some, it is providing an opportunity to use their life experience in service to those currently experiencing homelessness. For others, like Dwona Beroit, this job is granting her the opportunity to explore other careers in healthcare like social work.

«Chrysalis is truly a blessing to me because without them I would have never been connected to National Health Foundation. Thanks to NHF, I have found my passion in helping others and am currently pursuing a degree in social work. I want to help others the same way Chrysalis and NHF helped me,» shares Chrysalis client and NHF staff member Dwona Beroit.

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 26, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — For many, the pandemic has resulted in devastating life events ranging from unemployment, loss of homes, and food insecurity – but for some, the pandemic has provided an opportunity for a fresh start, especially in the new year.

In May of 2020, National Health Foundation (NHF) launched a temporary recuperative care site as part of Project Roomkey – a statewide initiative to house individuals living on the streets to curb the spread of COVID-19. To staff the site, NHF partnered with Chrysalis, a local non-profit dedicated to serving low-income individuals and those experiencing homelessness as they transition back into the workforce.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 26, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Secure Futures Solar, a commercial-scale solar power developer based in Staunton, Va., has recently opened an office to offer distributed solar power systems to schools, hospitals and businesses in North Carolina. The new office will be staffed by two veterans of solar power and energy businesses. The Charlotte office will seek to develop the substantial untapped market for commercial solar power in one of the nation’s top three solar states.

The Tarheel State currently ranks third behind California and Texas for solar capacity, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association of America. However, in contrast to California and Texas, which each boast a balanced mix of solar power from the three major sources – homes, commercial entities and electric utilities — the vast majority of solar installations in North Carolina are owned and operated by monopoly utilities. Commercial-scale solar represents less than five percent of total solar capacity in North Carolina.

«Utility companies have made great strides in providing clean solar power through the electric grid in North Carolina,» said Ryan McAllister, Chief Executive Officer of Secure Futures. «But distributed solar at commercial scale has faced significant barriers in the state. Secure Futures is now introducing a practical way for schools, hospitals and businesses in North Carolina to enjoy the financial benefits of generating their own solar power right on site.»

Thanks to a strong Renewable Portfolio Standard and other public policy encouraging clean energy, North Carolina has installed 6,487 megawatts of solar generating capacity, providing 7 percent of the state’s total electric power as of late 2020. The state boasts enough solar panels to run the equivalent of nearly 800,000 homes. Prices of solar installations have fallen 45 percent over the last 5 years, allowing more than 200 solar companies to create 6,617 jobs in the state as of late last year, according to SEIA.

Despite all these gains, high upfront cost to customers has prevented the growth of distributed solar power in North Carolina. Distributed solar offers benefits not available from centralized, utility-scale solar including money savings to customers, positive environmental impact and adding resilience to the electric grid. A 2017 law authorized solar leasing, offering homeowners along with schools, hospitals and businesses the opportunity to host a solar energy system on site with no upfront capital cost.

Secure Futures is among a handful of providers authorized by the North Carolina Utilities Commission to offer distributed solar power through the state’s solar equipment leasing program. Through its proprietary Solar Self-Generation Agreement®, the company is the only commercial-scale solar provider in North Carolina to offer a modified version of leasing with benefits to the customer not available through a traditional lease.

«Leasing doesn’t allow customers to benefit from the largest incentive available to go solar, federal tax credits to purchase solar equipment,» said CEO McAllister. «This is especially hard on non-taxable schools, hospitals and local governments, which cannot qualify for the tax incentive even if they choose to buy their own solar equipment.»

Unlike traditional leasing agreements, the SGA® allows Secure Futures to pass along savings from the federal Solar Investment Tax Credit to tax-exempt customers. The solar ITC was recently extended by Congress through 2022 at a rate of 26 percent.

Secure Futures will offer on-site solar power by SGA® financing in North Carolina through its new Charlotte office, staffed by two veterans of solar power and energy.

Joe DeRado will serve as Business Development Director for the whole company, supervising sales staff in the three states currently served by Secure Futures. Formerly Vice President of Market Development for Sun FundED, a service company in Indianapolis focused on helping K-12 schools go solar, DeRado also worked for Constellation Energy and Direct Energy Business.

«I’m looking forward to help local governments, hospitals and businesses in North Carolina save money with a new option for on-site solar power at no upfront capital cost. With my background in energy for education, I’m also eager to connect schools with innovative classroom programs to provide students with hands-on experience in solar power and clean energy,» said DeRado.

North Carolina native Jeff Gowdy will serve as Business Development Associate in Charlotte. Gowdy holds a Solar Photovoltaic Certification from Everblue and previously worked as a solar installer. Currently, he is enrolled in a remote program to earn a master of engineering degree in Space Operations from the University of Colorado, uniting his interest in clean energy with a lifelong love of space exploration.
