MIAMI, Jan. 21, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Association Law Group (ALG) started by representing some of the worst financially hit HOAs and condos in South Florida at the time of the Great Recession, but now represents some of the top luxury brand condominium towers ever built. Among other clients, ALG is attorney for ultra-high end luxury buildings such as the Four Seasons Surf Club, Ritz Residences Miami Beach, SLS Brickell, Jade Signature, Muse, Echo Brickell, and Paramount Miami World Center, to name a few. Partner, Jeff Cooperman, also works with the boards of directors of condominium towers including The Bond (1080 Brickell), Brickell Heights, SLS Lux, Elysee, 87 Park, and Auberge Ft. Lauderdale.

«We deliver a highly personalized service to our clients and have great success in managing complex legal issues by working closely with boards and providing thoughtful, timely and strategic legal guidance. We work with a client base that is accustomed to priority attention and service, and our firm strives to exceed the highest of expectations with our hands-on approach,» stated Mr. Cooperman.

Managing Partner, Ben Solomon, also serves as counsel for Panorama Tower (the tallest building in Florida at 85 stories), Harborview at Fisher Island, and the new Ritz Carlton Residences in Sunny Isles.

«We specialize in developer-controlled projects and often get involved early. Associations typically need extra legal help at the beginning when operations start up and the owners take over,» commented Mr. Solomon.

ALG also represents hundreds of additional HOAs (including many master associations) and condominiums as general counsel, with a particular focus on collections and litigation. ALG has recovered over $200M in past due assessments and fees for clients and has successfully handled over 20,000 collection cases. The firm defers most fees and costs and collects the same from the responsible owner.

ALG is also a title agent and handles residential and commercial real estate transactions. The partners of the firm have closed billions of dollars’ worth of loans, transactions, and other contracts for clients.

ALG plans to open a newly constructed law office in Brickell on the 52nd Floor of Panorama Tower later this year and has its second office in the Las Olas area of Fort Lauderdale. For more information on ALG, please contact the firm at info@ALG-Firm.com or visit www.ALG-FIRM.com.

Women’s Liberation Front: Biden Executive Order on «Gender Identity» Will Eviscerate Women’s Rights

WASHINGTON, Jan. 21, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Feminist organization, Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF), is denouncing an executive order signed by President Biden on his first day in office which takes steps to end female-only spaces and sports. Biden signed the controversial «Executive Order on Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation» despite the objections from many women’s organizations.

Feminists and LGB activists decry the order as a threat to women’s rights and American civil liberties.

While WoLF supports protecting LGB Americans from discrimination based on same-sex attraction, this must be done without harming women’s rights. The policy will require federal agencies to interpret every regulation, including both Title VII and Title IX of the Civil Rights Act, that prohibits «sex discrimination» as also prohibiting discrimination on the basis of «gender identity.» According to Lauren Adams, Legal Director for WoLF, this policy will likely prohibit female-only student athletics and sex-segregation in intimate spaces such as domestic violence shelters and prisons.

The hashtag #BidenErasedWomen is now trending on Twitter as feminists, the LGB community, and civil liberties advocates are speaking out against the policy.

Another executive order Biden signed yesterday addressing equity for «underserved communities» also left out sex discrimination, ignoring the history of oppression and inequality faced by women and girls in the United States.

«Both executive orders send a heartbreaking message to women and girls that their government does not view them as worthy of consideration and is not willing to recognize female people as a discrete class,» said Adams. The orders also seriously weaken the ability of federal agencies to even consider the needs of women and girls.

Natasha Chart, WoLF Executive Director, said, «This executive order is death by a thousand cuts for women’s rights, as well as a threat to civil liberties for all Americans. Our First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and conscience must be upheld alongside common-sense protections for vulnerable populations such as women, girls, and LGB Americans.»

While policies protecting individuals from discrimination based on same-sex attraction are widely supported, «gender identity» policies are unpopular. Polling of American voters in October revealed cross-partisan disapproval of policies that would allow violent male sex offenders to be housed in women’s prisons and emergency shelters, or allow boys to compete in girls’ athletics. These policies are particularly unpopular with marginalized groups, such as black and Hispanic voters, who tend to be disproportionately affected by them.

Announcing Geo Week 2022, the intersection of geospatial & the built world!

PORTLAND, Maine, Jan. 21, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — AEC Next Technology Expo & Conference, International Lidar Mapping Forum, and SPAR 3D Expo & Conference are coming together to form Geo Week 2022 and will take…

PORTLAND, Maine, Jan. 21, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — AEC Next Technology Expo & Conference, International Lidar Mapping Forum, and SPAR 3D Expo & Conference are coming together to form Geo Week 2022 and will take place February 6-8, 2022 in Denver, Colorado. The joining of these events reflects the increased integration between the built environment, advanced airborne/terrestrial technologies, and commercial 3D technologies. Geo Week is at the forefront of this integration, providing education, technology, and resources for professionals in industries including AEC, Asset & Facility Management, Disaster & Emergency Response, Earth Observation & Satellite Applications, Energy & Utilities, Infrastructure & Transportation, Land & Natural Resource Management, Mining & Aggregates, Surveying & Mapping, and Urban Planning/Smart Cities.

«We’ve witnessed the growing convergence between geospatial and the built world, and we received positive feedback from customers about holding the events together, which had been the plan for 2020 and 2021 before the pandemic forced us to cancel due to the unavoidable consequence of the worsening magnitude of the public health and safety issues caused by the COVID-19,» said Lee Corkhill, Marketing Director at Diversified Communications. «We believe the market is ready and eager for this next step of leveraging the confluence of what are becoming ubiquitous technologies for improved collaboration, increased efficiency, and better outcomes. Much of the conference content and technology being showcased will reflect and support this increasing integration.» An Advisory Board of industry leaders will guide conference programming and event development.

In addition to Diversified Communications’ technology events coming together, powerful partnership events will also take place at Geo Week, including the ASPRS (American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing) Annual Conference and USIBD’s (U.S. Institute of Building Documentation) Annual Symposium. ASPRS, USIBD and other events have supported and taken place with ILMF, AEC Next and SPAR 3D when the latter events took place separately. Bringing all these brands together as a new powerhouse event under the Geo Week umbrella is a fitting evolution that recognizes the increasing convergence of the technologies.

Karen Schuckman, PLS, CP, CMS and Managing Director of ASPRS, said, «Bringing ASPRS and ILMF together beginning in 2018 reunited the photogrammetry, remote sensing, and lidar professionals and vendors who enthusiastically welcomed the opportunity to attend one consolidated event; an event where they could roam one large exhibit hall and attend educational workshops to broaden their expertise into related disciplines. Bringing the built world into this mix through AEC Next and SPAR 3D acknowledges not only the richness and complexity of the technologies we have available for spatial analysis and decision making, it also give us all the opportunity to explore and invent new analysis methods that leverage the fusion of imagery, elevation, and bathymetry with 3D models of the built world. The merging of these disciplines IS the future. Co-locating our annual conferences and expositions facilitates us traveling into the future on a multi-lane superhighway.»

«The coming together of professionals from the geospatial and built environment communities is long overdue,» said John Russo, AIA, President of USIBD. «Finally, one event, one place where we can all gather to network and gain insight into the convergence of our worlds. The USIBD is excited to participate in GeoWeek and share its expertise in reality capture, BIM, digital twin and more!»

Geo Week counts a broad range of industry organizations, publications, and portals as supporters during this unprecedented period of transformation and disruption driving the rapid expansion of the internet of things, the development of smart cities, and a data revolution altering how people live and work. At the center of this revolution are geospatial, 3D, and location-based technologies. Geo Week is the only platform-neutral event in North America that brings together industry leaders to harness these technologies and explore the myriad applications they empower.

According to Corkhill, there will also be content that addresses the built environment, advanced airborne/terrestrial technologies, and commercial 3D technologies independently of one another.
«The event represents a continuum, with individuals and organizations from all corners of industry at differing levels of adoption. Geo Week will support a future vision, in which professionals and organizations that understand the full spectrum of data needs, work processes, software integration, and standards in both geospatial and BIM will be tomorrow’s technology leaders.»

The event will feature multiple tracks with content clearly identified as relevant to one or more of the audience groups feeding into Geo Week. The International Lidar Mapping Forum (ILMF) audience has historically been comprised of precision measurement professionals in surveying and mapping who use airborne and terrestrial lidar and related remote sensing technologies. The AEC Next audience has historically been comprised of professionals in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) that use technologies such as reality capture, automation, AI and XR to bid and manage projects and improve workflows. The SPAR 3D audience has historically been comprised of professionals who use 3D capture, scanning, visualization and modeling technologies across a variety of verticals. «We will use these familiar brands to designate content and make it easy and accessible for all stakeholders to find the solutions, connections, and education they need, no matter which vertical or industry segment they originated from.» says Corkhill. To this end, the organizers will also continue to publish Geo Week ENewsletter, SPAR 3D ENewsletter, and AEC ENewsletter. Interested parties may subscribe to one or more of these newsletters here.

Virtual Offerings in 2021

Setting the stage for the grand opening of Geo Week 2022 will be a series of virtual offerings this year, including webinars, panel discussions, technology showcases, and case studies. These offerings will serve to bring geospatial and built world stakeholders together via education and connections, detailing how these segments can and will work together in the future. From collaboration across the project team to alignment of industry measurements and standards, interested parties will gain valuable information and a roadmap to the future via this information hub. Women Continue To Break The Glass Ceiling On Public Board Appointments

WASHINGTON, Jan. 21, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — As we reflect on the challenges we faced and opportunities 2021 brings, the Women Business Collaborative (WBC) and Equilar share good news from the private sector:  the number of women and diverse women appointed to board of public companies continues to increase.  In December 2020, public companies appointed 107 women to Boards of public companies as compared to 175 men.  Women comprised 37.8% of overall board appointments.  This reflects an upward trend in the 4th quarter of 2020 with women comprising on average 41% of appointees.

The appointments of women of color continues to rise. In December, 28 of the women appointed identified as women of color with women identifying as African American leading the way with 13 seats.  Nine of these African American women are first time board members – the pool of women holding board seats of public companies is growing. This is exactly what the WBC and its partners and champions are calling for – parity in leadership positions on all boards.

Edie Fraser, CEO of the WBC, said, «The latest data reflects that more companies are adding women, and the private sector is taking major steps towards true representation coupled with calls from groups such as Nasdaq to include at least one board member of diversity.»

This upward trend demonstrates the attention the private sector is paying to calls for diverse leadership on boards. The call is for boards of public companies to look more like the composition of the population, communities, customers and public.

During 2020 the trend toward parity was positive.  Women gained a net of 1,055 seats on board of public companies and replaced 115 seats previously held by men. Overall, women gained 2.3% points of seats going from constituting 19.2% of board seats at the end of 2019 to 12.5% of board seats at the end of 2020.

Directors identifying as people of color comprised 12.5% of all the appointments in 2020. As this information is self-reported, it is important to note that the percentage of people of color appointed to public boards could be higher.

The overall trends across companies shows an increase in both the number of women and people of color appointed to boards of public companies. Equilar and WBC are tracking and analyzing the appointment of directors in terms of numbers, diversity and profile; but also, the companies and industries in which female board members are present and how many of the overall board seats are held by women. The time is now for women to sit across all companies, boards, and sectors.  Please, join us in celebrating, tracking, analyzing, and promoting women on boards of public companies.

STANFORD, Calif., Jan. 21, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — There has been an explosion of funding for climate tech in the past decade, and several global multilateral funds have pledged to commit vast resources towards climate causes. Additionally, many of the world’s largest companies have signed a pledge to meet the Paris Agreement goals ten years early.

While these endeavors are promising, what’s missing is a global network of action-oriented climate professionals with the skills needed to maximize the impact of these initiatives.

Terra.do is building that network.

The Mission

Terra.do’s mission is to get 100 million climate-conscious people substantially working on climate change solutions relevant to them by 2030.

The company raised $1.5M in early funding from a group of climate-conscious angels in August 2020 and has seen 100% quarter over quarter growth in revenue since the company launched earlier in the year.

Terra.do seeks to accomplish its mission through three steps:

● Learning – The foundation of Terra.do is its mission-focused online educational platform, managed by co-founder and climate expert Dr. Kamal Kapadia. The fully remote courses train professionals on the complexities of the global climate landscape. Each program is curated to a specific climate challenge and taught live by world-class instructors and guest lecturers like the leading climate scientist Dr. Charles «Chip» Fletcher and climate investor Sierra Peterson. The flagship program is Climate Change: Learning for Action, a 12-week intensive course covering every major angle of the climate landscape.

● Network – Through these courses, the company is building a robust global community of climate-aware individuals that want to engage in climate action. Participants, called «fellows», can expand their climate networks by tapping into a deep base of alumni, instructors, climate experts, and global partners such as Techstars. They also have access to career-focused resources, such as job fairs and mentorship programs.

● Action – Fellows and alumni engage with the climate solutions world in a variety of ways, including internships, projects, climate jobs, and entrepreneurship in climate. Alumni from early cohorts have gone on to found organizations such as Climate Changemakers, landed full-time positions in climate-aware companies such as Sidewalk Labs, and are running hands-on internship programs for new fellows.

«A massive wave of climate jobs is coming that will require all kinds of skills,» states Anshuman Bapna, founder and CEO of Terra.do. «We built a platform that allows talented individuals from around the world to develop the skills and network needed to jump into the climate fight. This infrastructure, which is the only one of its kind, will be critical to creating a high-impact climate workforce that can solve the diverse problems our world will face in the coming decades.»

The Story

The company was founded in early 2020 after Kamal’s brother-in-law randomly overhead Anshuman discussing climate in a cafe in Bengaluru, India. The two were introduced virtually, and leveraging their skills and networks, built a company designed to be 100% remote. In fact, the entire Terra.do team has never met in person.

While the distance appears to many as an obstacle, the company’s structure lets it thrive despite the challenges presented by COVID-19. «Our company and our community were designed to be completely online and remote from day one to enable every corner of the world to collaborate asynchronously on the problem,» states Bapna. «In that regard, we’re light years ahead of other real-world platforms that have been challenged during the pandemic.»

There was also a founding focus on diversity, inclusion, and a big-tent approach to climate solutions. This approach is baked into the company’s mission that 100 million minds from all over the world are necessary to create a transition to a post-climate-crisis world. Reflecting this is the company’s makeup of employees, instructors, fellows, and alumni from over 25 countries.

Terra.do’s first online job fair in November 2020 attracted companies such as Pachama, ZeroAvia, and Myst.AI, and over 1,000 job seeker registrants. This expanded version is expected to attract double that figure.

Dozens of organizations will be posting hundreds of technology jobs in fields such as software engineering, data science, product management, design, and more. Hiring managers and participants will have the opportunity to interact with one another in real-time via Slack and Zoom.
