LANCASTER, Calif., Aug. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — R. Rex Parris, President and Chairman of the Board of biotech company CarthroniX, announced a donation of $50,000 to Denis Evseenko, MD, Ph.D. of the Keck School of Medicine of USC to support continued research in the field longevity.

Dr. Evseenko was recently awarded a $1.69 million research project grant from the National Institutes of Health to address how to slow arthritis in aging joints. He has helped develop breakthroughs in molecular studies that identified and characterized the unique cell populations that form the superficial human joint cartilage zone.

Dr. Evseenko is one of the world’s leading medical researchers of arthritis and how gene activity drives cartilage development. «The CDC reports that 23% of all adults, or 54 million people, have some form of arthritis and are limited in their activities due to severe joint pain,» said Mr. Parris. «Dr. Evseenko’s work will help tens of millions of people in this country and many more worldwide, living with arthritis’s daily struggle.  Now there is evidence that it will also extend the quality of life and longevity.»

CarthroniX is comprised of scientists and surgeons with expertise in regenerative medicine and stem cell research.  Their research is focused on creating novel small molecules to stimulate the regrowth of healthy cartilage. Dr. Evseenko’s work fits seamlessly with CarthroniX’s goals of extending the quality of life for millions of people. Osteoarthritis is one component of the aging process as cartilage degenerates over time, especially after injury and wear and tear.

Recently it was discovered that some of the small molecules studied to treat arthritis also reverse the aging of human cells in vitro.  This gift will enable Dr. Evseenko’s lab to advance to the next stage of research.  The CX-1 small molecule will hopefully slow the aging of mice.  If this is confirmed, CarthroniX will seek FDA approval of human trials to investigate CX-1’s effect on human longevity and regeneration of vital organs. «This gift will help us explore some fundamental and transformative questions related to life span extension,» said Dr. Evseenko.

CarthroniX novel technologies are proven to preserve, repair, and regenerate cartilage in joints and suppress inflammation in large animals.  CarthroniX is developing two types of drugs: one that is both regenerative and anti-inflammatory, and a second that is solely anti-inflammatory.

ABOUT CarthroniX

CarthroniX is developing novel small molecules to stimulate the growth and regeneration of articular cartilage in joints. CarthroniX patented, first-in-class small molecule CX-1 activates an established regenerative pathway; they demonstrated this results in cartilage proliferation, cellular migration, and deposition of cartilaginous matrix.

For this year’s event, with the safety of the production team a top priority, SiriusXM will be employing a unique broadcasting set-up that will limit the number of personnel on site at the event while maintaining a high level of coverage that fans will enjoy. SiriusXM golf play-by-play voice Brian Katrek will broadcast with analysts Mark Carnevale and Carl Paulson from remote studios in Orlando, FL, using a bank of video feeds that will enable them to call action happening around the course.  SiriusXM’s Dennis Paulson and Westwood One’s Kevin Kugler will be on the course at TPC Harding Park as roving reporters, following key playing groups during the Championship.  SiriusXM’s Fred Albers and John Maginnes, broadcasting from their home studios in Texas and North Carolina, respectively, will also serve as reporters on the broadcast, using special video feeds to call shots.

SiriusXM host and leading swing coach Jim McLean, broadcasting from his home in Miami, will have a special video feed of the practice range at TPC Harding Park and will provide live updates and commentary as key players are warming up before their rounds.  SiriusXM’s Taylor Zarzour and Jason Sobel will remotely conduct post-round interviews with players coming off the course via video conference.

«It has been a long wait for major championship golf this year and we are very pleased to be bringing our listeners The PGA Championship live,» said Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM’s President and Chief Content Officer.  «The safety of our talent and staff is our top priority and so we are making some important adjustments to our coverage amid these unique circumstances.  I am very proud of our team, and by virtue of their skill and hard work, and with excellent collaboration with the PGA of America, we will deliver our listeners the extensive, unparalleled coverage they expect from SiriusXM.»

Listeners can also tune in to pre-round coverage each day leading into the live tournament broadcast to hear an in-depth preview of the day ahead and get live reports from on the course.

On Thursday and Friday, veteran broadcaster Gary McCord, who has called 33 PGA Championships over the course of his career, will join Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz to co-host special pre-round editions of Gravy and the Sleeze, airing from 1:00 to 4:00 pm ET leading into live play-by-play.

PGA Professional Bob Ford, who has competed in 10 PGA Championships and has long been one of the country’s preeminent club professionals, will host the PGA Championship pregame show before the Saturday and Sunday coverage with Mark Lye, Carl Paulson and Kraig Kann.  Lye and Kann will host the channel’s post-round coverage after play is completed each day.

In addition to live play-by-play, SiriusXM will provide fans with an extensive schedule of daily golf talk and PGA Championship analysis throughout Championship week.  Visit SiriusXM.com/golfonsxm for a daily schedule.

David Marr III will host a new episode of PGA of America Radio on Wednesday at 3:00 pm ET.  A collaboration between SiriusXM and the PGA of America, the show focuses each week on expert PGA Member instruction, PGA of America golf events, and programs designed to grow the game.

SiriusXM’s lineup during Championship week also features shows hosted top PGA and LPGA instructors Michael Breed, Jim McLean, Frank Darby, Brian Crowell, plus NCAA National Champion Stanford golf coach Conrad Ray and former Cardinal golfer Kyle Gentry, hosts of Golf U, and many more of the best voices and analysts in golf.

WAIPAHU, Hawaii, Aug. 3rd, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — It all started when Michilynn Yoro-Roque was 16 years old. Her best friend was about to leave for college and asked her if she’d like to be her replacement at her part time job. The role in question was to be an assistant at the local Kumon Center, and Michilynn’s decision to say yes ultimately molded the next few years of her life.

One year at the Kumon Center turned into two, which turned into three, and as time passed, Michilynn’s passion for education grew. Upon returning from college, the owner and Instructor at her former Kumon Center pushed Michilynn to learn more about opening her own center. Michilynn followed that advice, and now as the new owner and Instructor of Kumon of Waipahu, she is excited  to inspire local children to reach their full potential.

It was determined that her target location was available, which confirmed the fact that she’d be starting her new Kumon journey. Becoming a Kumon Franchisee is an attractive business opportunity for many aspiring entrepreneurs, as up to $36,000 in startup cost assistance is available to further assist new Instructors.

OSV Innovation Challenge Ignites Fire of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Church with Upcoming Demo Day

HUNTINGTON, Ind., Aug. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — A beacon of hope, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the Church shines brightly as OSV Institute prepares to award three $100,000 prizes as the culmination to their first-ever Innovation Challenge to be held at The University of Notre Dame on Saturday, August 29. This year-long process began last August when more than 350 Catholic entrepreneurs submitted applications for their «napkin idea» to be considered for the OSV Innovation Challenge, established in partnership with Catholic Creatives, Notre Dame IDEA Center, and SENT. Now down to 12 finalists, three will be selected by a panel of experts, investors, and fellow entrepreneurs to receive funding to support and grow some of the brightest ideas in the Church today.

«For more than 100 years, OSV Institute has been funding great organizations and initiatives in the Church,» states Jason Shanks, President of OSV Institute. «But times have changed, and so have the needs within the Church.»

More than just a contest, the OSV Innovation Challenge is an incubator experience for participants who aim to think beyond the status quo and to view the Catholic Church through the lenses of innovation and creativity. «We are not aiming to fund the next good idea, but to invest in people – emerging innovators and seasoned trailblazers – by forming a new generation of entrepreneurs who are not afraid to relook at how we encounter and evangelize through the Truth and beauty of the Catholic Church,» says Shanks. «The Church has always been at the forefront of great ideas – hospital systems, schools and universities, missions, shrines, and some of the greatest art known to man. This Challenge is a search for Catholic innovators with world-changing ideas.»

The idea for the Challenge was co-authored by OSV Institute and Catholic Creatives, a movement of Catholic designers, filmmakers, photographers, creative thinkers, artists, entrepreneurs, and others working to bring the gospel to the world in fresh, beautiful ways. Not only did OSV Institute pledge the initial three $100,000 prizes, they also sponsored a 10-week Notre Dame IDEA Center Accelerator Program for the 12 finalists, which began in June and integrated a custom curriculum and personalized coaching from world-class Catholic speakers, entrepreneurs, ministers, and artists, and spiritual support tailored for entrepreneurs. Finalists also received spiritual formation provided by SENT Ventures. Upon completion, finalists will receive a Catholic Innovator Certificate from the University of Notre Dame.

«Finalists have received ongoing professional coaching, business acumen, opportunities for spiritual growth, and peer-to-peer mentoring meant to form well-rounded individuals and organizations able to grow and thrive for years to come,» states John Henry, Director of Startup Programs at the Notre Dame IDEA Center. The OSV Innovation Challenge will culminate with Demo Day, hosted by the IDEA Center on Saturday, August 29, where finalists will present their honed pitches to a panel of expert judges who will award three $100,000 prizes. The prizes will be awarded as direct capital to support project completion.

«I think as Catholics we often hold a false dichotomy between faith and business,» comments finalist Dave Kang, writer, producer, and director with Ecce! Films. «By taking in the stories and wisdom of our guest speakers and the lives of the saints, I learned that faith and entrepreneurship do go hand in hand. There is a great both/and.»

To gain a better understanding of this game-changing initiative and its impact on the Church, media are invited to participate in Demo Day events virtually. Media will have the opportunity to interview finalists and OSV Innovation Challenge leaders on Friday and Saturday, August 28-29 via a virtual green room. Challenge winners will be announced Saturday evening and will be available for virtual interviews immediately following.

Contact Carrie Kline at carriek@revolutionizingmissions.com to:

  • Schedule an interview with Jason Shanks to learn more about the OSV Institute Innovation Challenge.
  • Book virtual interviews with finalists and OSV Challenge leaders during Demo Day events, including interviews with the three winners once they are announced Saturday evening.
  • Register to live-stream Demo Day events as a member of the media.

In 1915, Fr. John Francis Noll began the OSV Institute to extend the reach of Our Sunday Visitor in service and support of Catholic organizations. With over $80 million returned to Catholic organizations to date, the OSV Institute continues to serve the Church by supporting and encouraging innovative and effective Church-related programs and activities. Three areas of special interest for funding are Re-Captivating Millennials, Hispanic Experience and Supporting Parents. In 2017, the Institute expanded its reach to provide support for new innovation and to serve as an incubator for new efforts supporting the Catholic Church. Learn more at www.osvinstitute.com.

New York Sets New Standards For Drinking Water Contaminants

NEW YORK, Aug. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The Law Firm of Napoli Shkolnik PLLC supports New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s announcement regarding «forever chemicals» and 1,4-Dioxane. This is a first-in-the-nation drinking water standard for emerging contaminant…

NEW YORK, Aug. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The Law Firm of Napoli Shkolnik PLLC supports New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s announcement regarding «forever chemicals» and 1,4-Dioxane. This is a first-in-the-nation drinking water standard for emerging contaminant 1,4-Dioxane.

Maximum contaminant limits (MCLs) were set at 10 parts per trillion each for Perfluorooctanoic acid («PFOA») and perfluorooctane sulfonate («PFOS») (collectively «PFAS») and 1 part per billion for 1,4-Dioxane. The MCLs for PFAS in New York’s drinking water are among the lowest in the United States.

We believe this is a strong first step in making sure the responsibility for this widespread water contamination lies not with the water districts or rate payers, but by the manufacturers of the chemicals who knowingly introduced these defective chemicals into the water.

The contaminants 1,4-Dioxane and PFAS substances have become the subject of widespread national public health concerns. These «emerging contaminants» are increasingly being discovered in the groundwater and drinking water supply throughout the country. Their extreme persistence in the environment, along with their toxicity, mobility, and bioaccumulation potential, pose probable adverse effects to human health and the environment.

All three contaminants have been detected in drinking water systems across the country, yet remain unregulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which is responsible for setting regulatory limits under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act.

These new enforceable limits on 1,4-Dioxane, PFOA and PFOS will require all water systems in New York to regularly test and monitor for these chemicals, many for the first time, regardless of size. The regulations will go into effect as soon as they are published in the next State Register.

We support New York State’s commitment in addressing emerging contaminants in drinking water and encourage other states to take the same steps to mitigate this national threat in their community. These new standards lay a stronger legal foundation for us in our fight against the manufacturers of these dangerous chemicals.

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Many children around the world utilize high-tech devices as educational tools when they’re unable to attend class. However, children who don’t have access to this technology are often overlooked, leaving an already disadvantaged population even further behind due to COVID-19. Seeking a solution, global nonprofit organization, Alight, in collaboration with local educators and pillars in the community, is helping take education to the airwaves to bridge the gap between knowledge and accessibility across regions in Pakistan.

Collectively, the teams have developed a unique peer-to-peer education experience through radio segments that have a culturally relevant undertone and are hosted by students themselves. Alight has produced these programs, bringing curriculum to students unable to attend school during lockdown or access other education tools due to lack of resources.

«With one of the world’s highest populations of out-of-school children at 5.6 million, Alight’s work in Pakistan is designed around one guiding principle – boosting the potential of Pakistan’s next generation,» says Daniel Wordsworth, Alight CEO. «We are focused on removing barriers to education, so families are able to send their children – and particularly the female population – back to school.»

While the use of technology has enabled Alight to be on the cutting edge of humanitarian responses in so many ways, during these uncertain times they have found «old school» solutions, including radio, television and socially distanced, outdoor town square lessons, to be the greatest resources. For example, across the board, radio’s accessibility provides expansive reach and support to families and children that are often overlooked in migrant populations and in remote locations.

«Radio has been used as one of the most effective mediums of teaching the children, particularly during disasters, in Pakistan,» says Dr. Tariq Cheema, Alight Program Director in Pakistan. «Peer education methods help in improved results, progression, retention and improved peer support across diverse groups.»

The education programming has also opened the door to disseminating basic health and wellness messaging around cleanliness, nutrition, and a balanced diet. Teaching kids and families alike proper hand-washing, how to maintain physical distance, and the importance of wearing face masks in public places, creating vital awareness to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
