ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 28, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — NATSO, representing the nation’s truckstops and travel plazas, in a letter to the Biden Administration on January 27 outlined the market and incentive structure that would most effectively prompt existing fuel retailers to invest more in lower carbon fuels, including electric vehicle charging stations.  

NATSO, along with the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) and the Society of Independent Gasoline Marketers of America (SIGMA), outlined six principles that should guide the Administration’s approach to lowering the carbon footprint of transportation fuel. The letter was sent to the Secretary Designates for the Departments of Transportation and Energy as well as the Administrator Designate for the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Climate Advisor.

Collectively, NATSO, NACS, and SIGMA represent approximately 90 percent of retail sales of motor fuel in the United States and represent an established nationwide network of hundreds of thousands of fueling locations capable of driving the Administration’s goals forward.

The principles provide a roadmap that, if adopted, will align policy incentives to ensure the private sector is equipped to facilitate a faster, more widespread and cost-effective transition to alternative fuels.

Specifically, the fuel retailing groups articulated the following principles:

  1. Science should be the foundation for transportation climate policies;
  2. Establish performance goals without mandating specific technologies to allow for the benefits of innovation and technology development;
  3. Develop competitive market incentives to ensure a level playing field and provide long-term consumer benefits;
  4. Harness existing infrastructure to help commercialize new technology, maximize diverse investments, and achieve near-term and long-term emission reduction goals;
  5. Set consistent, uniform national policy so that the market has certainty to help it invest, and state policies do not create inconsistent or counterproductive measures;
  6. Ensure fair treatment so that all households are not forced to subsidize alternative energy users.

This will increase access to EV charging along highways and in rural America by filling alternative fuel infrastructure gaps along the National Highway System, including along the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) designated alternative fuel corridors. United Arab Emirates, Burundi and Rwanda added to travel ban.

The government has taken the urgent decision to ban travel to the UK from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Burundi and Rwanda to prevent the spread of the new variant originally identified in South Africa into the UK.

From 1pm on Friday 29 January, passengers who have been in or transited through the United Arab Emirates, Burundi and Rwanda in the last 10 days will no longer be granted access to the UK.

This does not include British and Irish nationals, or third-country nationals with residence rights in the UK, who will be able to enter the UK but are required to self-isolate for 10 days at home, along with their household. Passengers returning from these countries cannot be released from self-isolation through Test to Release.

There will also be a flight ban on direct passenger flights from the UAE.

The decision to ban travel from these destinations follows the discovery of a new coronavirus variant first identified in South Africa, that may have spread to other countries, including the UAE, Burundi and Rwanda.

Any exemptions usually in place will not apply, including for business travel.

British nationals currently in the UAE should make use of the commercial options available if they wish to return to the UK. Indirect commercial routes that will enable British and Irish nationals and residents to return to the UK continue to operate.

British nationals should check Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) travel advice and follow local guidance. The FCDO will continue to offer tailored consular assistance to British nationals in country in need of advice on a 24/7 basis.

Today’s (28 January 2021) action follows new measures announced by the government yesterday to minimise travel across international borders and reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, including managed isolation in hotels and the need to declare a reason for travel. More details on these measures will be set out next week.

Whether those projections are met or surpassed, the matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Feb. 7, will almost certainly become the most legally wagered-on single event in U.S. history.

With 20 states and Washington D.C., representing a population of about 120 million, now offering some form of legal sports betting, a year-over-year jump is certain. The Super Bowl is always the most bet-on single sporting event in the U.S. In 2020, the American Gaming Association estimated that $6.8 billion was bet, both legally and illegally.

For this year’s game:

  • Sports betting is legal in at least some form in Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington D.C., and West Virginia.
  • Illinois, Colorado, and Tennessee did not offer any form of legal sports betting for last year’s Super Bowl. Together they represent three of the seven largest legal sports betting markets currently operating in the U.S.
  • Nevada, the second-largest market in the U.S., is expected to lead all U.S. markets with $125 million in bets on the big game, according to PlayUSA projections.

TAMARACK, Idaho, Jan. 28, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Tamarack Resort has submitted a special use permit application to the U.S. Forest Service to expand and enhance operations at the all-season destination.

The submission follows more than 18 months of groundwork completed by Tamarack as it updated its Master Development Plan (MDP), which sets the resort’s long-term development vision and identifies the mountain terrain necessary for expanding winter and summer operations on lands administered by the Boise National Forest.

In August 2020, Tamarack submitted the final MDP to the U.S. Forest Service. Filing an application for a special use permit is the next step in the lengthy process.

In its application, Tamarack is proposing:

  • An expanded lift network of six new aerial lifts, including a 10-passenger, base-to-summit gondola, three detachable quads and two fixed-grip triples.
  • An upgraded terrain network covering an additional 3,300 acres.
  • Enhanced guest services facilities, including a year-round facility atop Lone Tree Peak that would serve as a destination for the base-to-summit gondola for both scenic lift rides and dining.
  • Expanded all-season operations, including nearly 20 miles of new hiking and mountain biking trails covering approximately 980 acres.
  • New recreation offerings, including a via ferrata area — a climbing route that employs steel cables, rungs and ladders affixed to rock — and a mountain coaster.

Miami on-site tests are administered by BlueMed Consultants. sbe guests can now opt for the BlueMed Consultants PCR COVID-19 test, which offers 24-hour results, the rapid antigen COVID-19 test, which offers results in 10 minutes, or access to the self-administered Precheck by x.labs test which offers results in 24-72-hours. Guests can schedule their tests daily between 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Testing is free of charge for U.S. citizens with medical insurance that are concerned about possible COVID-19 exposure, and tests are available at varying prices from $70 to $175 for international or uninsured guests. Testing is free of charge for insured employees in Miami.

Guests at Mondrian Los Angeles can purchase self-administered test kits through Precheck by x.labs either upon booking their stay or upon arrival to the property which offers results in 24-72-hours.

As many countries around the world require a negative COVID test before re-entry, including the U.S. and Canada, SLS Baha Mar is focused on making their guests’ return home as effortless and safe as possible with its Safe Travels initiative. Guests at SLS Baha Mar will receive two complimentary rapid Antigen tests per room booked and these tests can be used at any time during the stay, a great resource to allow guests to comply with the mandatory regulations for travelers returning to the United States and other international destinations. For guests whose country requires a negative RT-PCR Test no more than 3 Days before their flight departs, SLS Baha Mar offers on-property testing for $134/per person (VAT inclusive).
