World’s largest RV rental company reveals performance stats from its best year on record, predictions for 2021 travel

AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Outdoorsy, the most-trusted and only global online RV rental and outdoor travel marketplace, today released its 2020 Travel Trend report, recapping stats from its record year. Despite experiencing a 90 percent cancellation rate early in the year due to the pandemic, Outdoorsy’s RV bookings surged in 2020, leading to the company’s best year on record, with a more than 4,500% increase in bookings throughout the course of the pandemic. To date, more than 3.1M rental days have been booked on the platform, from a community of nearly 900K owners and renters.

Outdoorsy’s RV bookings surged in 2020, with a 4,500% increase in bookings throughout the course of the pandemic.

With 200,000+ unique vehicles available to rent in 4,800+ cities across 14 countries, Outdoorsy was well poised as the preferred form of travel for consumers, offering a self-contained mode of transport that allowed travelers to safely hit the road amidst growing concerns around medical safety, while at the same time empowering RV owners to experience life-changing incomes.

«Roads really do have a way of connecting us all — and we’ve seen those connections, be that with family members or the natural world around us, become one of the top priorities for folks this year,» said Outdoorsy’s Co-Founder and CMO Jen Young. «Those connections that happen when you break away from the traditional modes of travel — the four walls of a hotel, the cramped armrests of a plane — are why we started Outdoorsy six years ago. This year has been a wild, rewarding ride of resilience, and our team eagerly anticipates the unprecedented growth our community and these connections are bound to see in the year ahead.»

2020, a year deemed by many as the year of the RV, marked Outdoorsy’s best year on record for bookings, revenue and new owner and renter sign ups. Beyond it being a strong performance year for the company, 2020 was also filled with milestones and key initiatives for the company including the addition of an Android renter app to its suite of iOS and Android apps for owners and renters. Outdoorsy also kicked off a Healthcare Heroes give back program, through which the company received 1,500+ nominations and awarded 140+ free RV vacations to healthcare workers on the front lines of the pandemic.

Outdoorsy also was the star attraction for celebrities looking to travel this year, with big names safely hitting the road in RVs in 2020, including: Zoey Deutch, who traveled up the Pacific Coast in a stylish campervan; Famed chef Curtis Stone and his family who celebrated Thanksgiving with a socially distanced RV trip; Lily Collins who got engaged while on her Outdoorsy campervan trip to the desert; Molly Sims who used Outdoorsy to set up a Halloween celebration at her home; Rosario Dawson and her quaranteam who traveled to Big Bear for a weekend away; and Rachel Brosnahan, Bella Thorne, Madelaine Pretsch, Camila Mendes, Sophia Boutella, LaLa Anthony, Ashley Greene, Colleen Ballinger, Lance Bass, Brandi Cyrus and Kelly Osbourne, among others.

With the release of its second annual travel trends report, Outdoorsy is showcasing major owner, renter and general travel industry takeaways from the company’s landmark year and predictions for the 2021 rental season.

2020 Outdoorsy Travel Trends

  • A new audience is getting outdoors. Nearly 90% of Outdoorsy renters in 2020 were first timers.
  • Spending more time on the road. The average trip length on Outdoorsy was 6.4 days, up from 6.0 days in 2019.
  • Summer reigns supreme. July remained the most popular month for trips this year, followed by August and September.
  • Western and southern states win out. California, Colorado and Texas were the most popular states for rentals, with Utah and Arizona following close behind.
  • Towable trailers remain popular. Towable trailers, one of the most cost effective vehicle types on the platform, were the most popular vehicle rented from Outdoorsy in 2020, accounting for 46% of bookings. Class C RVs, which are a smaller driveable vehicle that is great for families, were the next popular, accounting for 24% of bookings.
  • More people hit the road for Memorial Day. Memorial Day was the most popular holiday for RV rentals this year, beating out the 4th of July, which was the most popular holiday for RV travel in 2019.
  • RV rentals increased in value to match their growing popularity, but remain an affordable vacation option. The overall average nightly rate of an Outdoorsy rental in 2020 was $161, up from the $153 average in 2019, which directly correlates with the growing popularity of RV rental vacations.
  • RV rentals are the ultimate side hustle. The highest grossing owner with a single vehicle made nearly $42K this year – more than three times the average $13,000 a year that Americans made on their side hustles in 2019 (Bankrate).
  • Power users can bring in the big bucks. The highest grossing owner listing on the platform made nearly $2.4M this year.

Most popular US metro areas for rentals in 2020

  1. San Diego, California (Nearly double the bookings in 2020 versus 2019)
  2. Las Vegas, Nevada
  3. Phoenix, Arizona
  4. Denver, Colorado
  5. Austin, Texas
  6. Portland, Oregon
  7. Los Angeles, California
  8. Salt Lake City, Utah
  9. Mesa, Arizona
  10. Seattle, Washington

2021 RV rental predictions

  • RV and campervan rentals posed to become America’s next side hustle sweetheart. Due to an increase in RV sales and ownership, coupled with financial constraints and economic conditions, Americans will look to renting their vehicles as a steady source of secondary income. Outdoorsy owners can make up to $36,000 on average per year for each RV listed on the platform.
  • Vanlife is the ultimate uniter — and it sees no age. Life on the road is just as popular with the millennial generation as it is with the baby boomer generation. In 2020, Outdoorsy saw over 100% YoY bookings growth across all generations. Everyone is attracted to the approachability and low learning curve of the vanlife lifestyle.
  • More people are stepping outside of their comfort zone. Which means they’re getting out of the house and stepping outside. This year 90% of Outdoorsy renters were first-timers and the company expects this trend to continue. This new wave of travelers taking an interest in the outdoors will shape the future of Outdoorsy — and prioritize the protection of and access to the outdoors — for years to come. This new consumer mindset prioritizes trust, safety, cleanliness, and affordability.
  • Working-from-the-road RV use will surge. There will be more working on the road and RV use than ever before. This is certainly believable, considering that work can be found wherever you open your laptop. Access to WiFi will be crucial for travelers as they take their jobs anywhere there’s an internet connection. In Outdoorsy’s recent Renter Sentiment Survey, 75% of travelers said they feel the freedom of virtual work and learning make them more likely to take a road trip at «off peak» times.
  • Campgrounds will be booked earlier. Due to overall new demand for outdoor recreational travel and activities, Outdoorsy predicts national park campgrounds will be booked earlier in 2021. These prime spots typically book out up to 6 months in advance for national park campsites (around March and April), but the company is predicting the booking curve to move up to February this year.
  • Visitors to our state and national parks will skyrocket. With international travel still mostly off-limits, state and national parks will see more visitors and campers than ever before. It will be the outdoor travel industry’s shared responsibility to help protect these national treasures for years to come and help educate and promote sustainable travel and leave no trace practices.

Hagerty Donates $25,000 to SCORE in Support of Small Businesses Nationwide

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., Dec. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — In the wake of its nationwide #HagertyDrivingGratitude social media campaign, Hagerty today donated $25,000 to SCORE, a nonprofit powered by the nation’s largest network of expert volunteer business mentors.

Throughout November, Hagerty, an automotive lifestyle brand with a mission to keep driving alive for car lovers and drive positive change in the world, challenged Instagram users to post photos of their favorite small business along with the hashtag «#HagertyDrivingGratitude.» For each hashtag, Hagerty donated $25 to SCORE.

Joining Hagerty in the effort were vintage car enthusiasts «Fast and Furious» star Sung Kang; professional race car driver Patrick Long; automotive enthusiasts Brendan Fallis and Luke and Melissa DiTella; and automotive TV personality Courtney Hansen.

#HagertyDrivingGratitude was the company’s second initiative this year in support of small businesses struggling during the pandemic. Through its Restore the Roar program last spring, Hagerty awarded grants totaling $500,000 to 100 small automotive businesses affected by the COVID-19 economic downturn.

«Small businesses are the unsung heroes of our communities,» said Hagerty CEO McKeel Hagerty, who kicked off #HagertyDrivingGratitude by visiting small automotive restoration shops in Traverse City, Michigan. «It was our honor to support them, their employees and their communities through these efforts.»

Since 1964, SCORE has helped 11 million entrepreneurs to start or grow a business. SCORE’s 10,000 volunteers provide free mentoring, workshops, and educational services to 1,500+ communities nationwide, creating 29,681 new businesses and 67,706 non-owner jobs in 2019 alone.

«SCORE extends heartfelt thanks to Hagerty for their generous donation in support of small business owners during what has been, for many, the most challenging year of their lives,» said SCORE CEO Bridget Weston. «The pandemic has challenged business revenue, relationships and resources on unprecedented levels, but SCORE is here to help business owners turn obstacles into opportunities, using our free educational tools, expert mentorship and online resources.»

GARFIELD, N.J., Dec. 16, 2020 The sauna has been a small building for various events, including religious ceremonies, sweat lodges, healing the unwell, and socializing for thousands of years. It affords its occupants the ability to relax and allows the mind to open to new channels of thought.

Saunas are culturally the rite of passage for the Finnish population. An old Finnish proverb describes the sauna as a ‘poor man’s pharmacy’ «If liquor, tar, and sauna won’t help, an illness is fatal». They have been used to treat the sick, cure meat, and even as a birthplace for women giving birth. The intense heat ensures that the ‘hot box’ is sterile.

In our modern times, people use the sauna for ‘sauna’ing’, a social affair that offers many positive health benefits while slowly relaxing the body and connecting with family and friends. It’s understood that the heat in the sauna activates brain neurons that release serotonin, a neurotransmitter essential for emotional health. In a nutshell, ‘the more you sweat, the better you will feel’. Studies show that perspiring flushes toxins out of the body and can improve cardiovascular function.

Intrinsically people are drawn to nature, which allows them to connect to the environment. BZB Cabins are launching a new range of static sauna cabins for the home garden. They also have a novel and nomadic sauna on wheels that will look just as good in a cool backyard or a favorite glamping destination such as an ecological farm, under the Northern Lights, the banks of a river, or the shores of the sea.

BZB Cabins such as the NOVUS L 70 are multi-purpose units elegantly designed to accommodate two separate rooms; one for the sauna and the other as a relaxation room. Outside, there is a covered terrace that is a great place to cool down and rehydrate. If there is enough outdoor space, then one or more of the units can be added and styled as a sitting room and bar area, kids room, and office space, which will provide a desirable socializing environment.

The domed nomadic IGLOO 40 is a distinctive and remarkable design built onto a tiny house transportable frame suitable for travel everywhere. It has two benches and can accommodate up to eight adults. A must-have for a weekend home or lovers of outdoor adventures and glamping.

About BZB Cabins

BZB Cabins was established in 2013. They are committed to providing European quality cabins, saunas, camping pods, and other outdoor products for urban backyards, country gardens, second home properties, or even on-the-go travel to customers across the United States and Canada. BZB Cabins also offers a comprehensive range of accessories and an impressive after-sales service to ensure complete enjoyment of the cabins.

Sheremetyevo Celebrates the 250th Anniversary of the Birth of Ludwig van Beethoven

MOSCOW, Dec. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Sheremetyevo International Airport will join a series of international events in December 2020 dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the birth of the great German composer Ludwig van Beethoven.

MOSCOW, Dec. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Sheremetyevo International Airport will join a series of international events in December 2020 dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the birth of the great German composer Ludwig van Beethoven.

On December 16, the composer’s birthday, at exactly 2:50 p.m., a «Beethoven Moment» took place in all Sheremetyevo’s terminals, consisting of a three-minute fragment of the famous Fifth Symphony played by Digital Orchestra by Golikov. The 2:50 pm broadcast time is symbolic of the jubilee date – 250 years of the composer’s birth.

Sheremetyevo is joining other major airports in Europe and Russia in this project. The main idea of the event, organized with the support of the Beethoven Jubilee Society, is to unite people from different cities and countries for a few moments to remember and be inspired by the composer’s brilliant music.

Also on the composer’s birthday, the installation exhibition «Ludwig van Beethoven – Ode «To Joy» will open at Sheremetyevo Airport. This exhibition is one of several large-scale events organized by the National Tourist Office of Germany in Russia within the framework of the «Year of Germany in Russia 2020/21,» with the support of the German embassy.

The exhibition consists of 35 miniature multi-colored sculptures of Beethoven by the German sculptor Ottmar Hörl that have been integrated into the airport terminals. The artist’s creativity lies in the unusual embodiment of the composer’s image; sculptures made in golden and malachite colors depict Beethoven smiling. The installations are located in Terminals B (3rd floor, public departure area and the Sheremetyevo Travel Retail zone) and D (public departure area, 3rd floor).

The exhibition at Sheremetyevo is part of a large-scale exhibition that was held at the Exhibition of Economic Achievements in October 2020 on the eve of the composer’s 250th birthday. At the moment, the exhibits are displayed at the Consulates General of Germany, in the Zaryadye Concert Hall, and other venues in Moscow and the regions.

Events dedicated to the anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth are one element of the rich cultural program that Sheremetyevo has implemented with the aim of creating a pleasant atmosphere and rich experience at the airport. Sheremetyevo annually takes part in international and all-Russian cultural events and holds various cultural and educational events, exhibitions, festivals and concerts in collaboration with partners in the arts.
